Chapter 81

Dumbledore had already told Jenna where Remus lived, so the moment she felt her feet hit the ground again after Apparating, she opened her eyes only to find herself in a large plain, with only one small cottage in the distance.

The little cottage was far away from the village and near the woods, making it the most reasonable house for Remus to live in, considering his transformation on full moon.

Jenna walked through the field and beneath the cloudy dark sky, making her way toward the small cottage. Although the closer she got to the little house, the more she realized how old and fragile it was. It looked as if a light earthquake could finish it off and crumble it down.

Once she reached the door, Jenna knocked gently upon it and moments later, Remus opened the door with a tired smile across his face, looking exhausted and gloomy with dark circles underneath his eyes.

"Hello, Jenna," he said with hospitality.

"Hi," Jenna said softly, bringing him into a short hug before pulling away.

"Come in," said Remus kindly, moving aside from the doorway and gesturing her inside with a tilt of his head.

"Whoa..." Jenna breathed out when she stepped into the house and looked around, seeing that the couch was broken, there were wolf scratch-marks on the old wallpapers, and the curtains looked as if they were ripped and repaired many times.

"Either you transform in your own house on full moons, or you've been going rough with a lady friend lately," she said, smirking.

"Jenna!" Remus scolded, his eyes widening in disbelief.

"Or guy!" Jenna added quickly, throwing her hands up in defense.

Remus shook his head at her.

"Hey, I'm not judging!" said Jenna, although her attention was caught when she heard the sound of laughter.

Looking over, she saw Sirius walking into the living room, having heard Remus and Jenna's amusing conversation.

"Hey." Jenna smiled at his direction goofily, to which he responded with a short nod.

Sirius too looked exhausted after a long journey and because of everything that was going on, his face missing that usual glimmer of playfulness.

"Er... are you hungry?" Remus started after clearing his throat awkwardly. "There's not much to eat, but it's enough for now, I guess."

"Oh, yes." Jenna nodded at him politely. "Thank you."

"The kitchen's that way." Remus pointed, and so the three made their way into the dusty kitchen.

With an apologetic look, Remus set a plate of bread and a jar of jam before Jenna on the kitchen table as the three of them sat down.

"Sorry," said Remus, rubbing the back of his neck nervously, "I know it's not much —"

"It's perfect," Jenna cut him off, giving him a reassuring nod.

She took three pieces of the bread and put some jam on them, giving one to both Sirius and Remus, and taking a bite of the third one herself. It was at that moment when she realized how hungry she actually was.

"So," Jenna started, breaking the uncomfortable silence of the kitchen, "what's the latest news? Anything happened in the past few days?"

"Sirius has notified the old members," said Remus. "And Dumbledore's looking for a new Headquarters for the Order of the Phoenix."

"Why can't we use the old Headquarters?" Jenna questioned, frowning lightly.

"After the last war, the place was found by the Death Eaters who still hadn't been caught. It was after you'd left," Remus explained. "But Sirius suggested Grimmauld Place to Dumbledore as the new Headquarters."

"Really?" said Jenna with surprise, looking over at Sirius.

"Dumbledore says it's not sensible for me to go on missions while my name's not cleared yet, so I guess it's the least I could do for now," Sirius said bitterly, leaning back on his chair.

"Dumbledore's at Grimmauld Place right now," said Remus. "He's trying to see what enchantments are on it already, and how else he can keep it hidden and safe with more protection charms."

"There are new members joining, though, aren't there?" Jenna questioned.

"Yes, I suppose." Remus nodded. "I only know about the Weasleys so far. But Arthur Weasley has been speaking with a few people in the Ministry; those who aren't as close minded as fudge and that we can count on."

"Speaking of Fudge... I read the Daily Prophet in the past week, ever since the night of the third task," Jenna said with a little sigh. "Fudge is in full denial. He says Cedric Diggory's death was a total accident."

"Well, he'll have to face the consequences on his own, when the truth comes out," said Remus gloomily.

Jenna then glanced back at Sirius, whose gaze was fixed on the table coldly.

"You're awfully quiet," Jenna said jokingly, sending him a teasing smile.

Although Sirius didn't really bother to even look back up at her. "I'm just tired, that's all."

Jenna stared back at him in confusion, trying to read through his expression. But his emotions were incomprehensible.

Jenna was familiar enough with Sirius to know that ever since he was young, he always kept his emotions to himself in times of trouble, shutting everyone else out.

He had been this way many times before; whenever he had a fight with his mother, when his brother died, and so on. And now, he was doing exactly the same.

"Er..." Remus broke the eerie silence, clearing his throat again. "I've — I've got a spare bedroom upstairs for you two, if you want to rest. It's more of an attic, to be honest. But it's got a bed, and it's as neat as I could've kept it."

"Right... thanks, Remus." Jenna nodded at him politely before getting up to her feet.

"Here, let me show you the way," said Remus, getting up as well. He then looked over at Sirius. "Do you want to come along?"

"I already know where it is," Sirius said shortly, still not looking up at them.

Jenna wasn't sure if she had seen it correctly or wether she had just imagined it, but for a second she was sure that there was a look of guilt in Remus's eyes.
