Chapter 192
Jenna didn't know when she had taken a curse to her feet, but she only noticed it when she started walking again and noticed the pain in her leg. She limped forward with Tonks beside her, who had a scratch on her bloody cheek and a large wound underneath her ear.
The castle was unnaturally silent by the time the two women reached the entrance hall. There were no flashes of light now, no bangs or screams or shouts. The flagstones of the deserted entrance hall were stained with blood. Emeralds were still scattered all over the floor, along with pieces of marble and splintered wood. Part of the banisters had been blown away.
Jenna came to a halt at the doorway of the Great Hall. The House tables were gone and the room was crowded. The survivors stood in groups, their arms around each other's necks. The injured were being treated upon the raised platform by Madam Pomfrey and a group of helpers.
"Oh, Lord..." Jenna whispered under her breath, looking around. Her eyes immediately started searching for familiar faces through the many corpses that laid on the ground with fear of recognizing one. But she still felt horrible for them, the ache growing in her heart.
"Remus!" Tonks suddenly cried out in relief as she spotted him, who healing an injured boy's leg. After he was done, Remus got to his feet and brought Tonks to a hug.
Jenna was relieved to see that he was all right, but she quickly made her way through the hall, her eyes searching the whole place for Sirius, Harry, Hermione, and everyone else. But she couldn't see any of them around. Her heart was beating mercilessly, throbbing in her chest painfully.
Her gaze then fell on the doorway of the Great Hall, and her stomach lurched when she saw Sirius walking inside. Jenna let out a laughter out of relief. When Sirius caught her eyes, he made run toward her. The moment he reached her, he grabbed her face in his blood-stained hands and pressed his lips down against her. The kiss was short-lasting, but he didn't completely pull away. Instead, he wrapped his arms around her tightly and brought her into a hug.
Jenna didn't realize she had started crying in happiness of seeing him alive until her tears burned the small woulds on her cheeks.
"It's okay," Sirius whispered in her ear, placing a kiss on top of her head as she rested her head against his chest, calming down a bit as she listened to the steady sound of his heartbeat. "We're all right, Jenny. We're both all right."
Jenna pulled away quickly at those words. "Where's Harry? Have you seen him?"
Sirius shook his head slowly, avoiding her eyes.
"Y-you don't think he's gone to him, do you?" Jenna asked in a hallow voice, her mouth going dry, but Sirius didn't answer her.
Jenna didn't want to think about it. She'd rather think that Harry was somewhere with Ron and Hermione, all of them unharmed. But her thoughts were cut short when Jenna saw Neville in the distance, sitting beside Madam Pomfrey who was trying to heal the wound across his forehead which was still bleeding.
"Honestly, I'm fine," he tried to protest. "You should tend to the others."
"This is a dangerous wound, boy!" Madam Pomfrey silenced him by moving her wand across his wound to heal it.
Once she was done and moved away to help the others, Neville remained seated on the spot, staring at the floor. Jenna watched him for a few moments longer before mustering all the courage she had left in her and making her way toward the boy.
Sirius watched Jenna limp onward to make sure she wasn't too hurt, before making his way over to Remus and Tonks so they could tend to the injured.
"Hello, Neville," Jenna said softly as she reached the boy. "How are you feeling?"
Neville looked up at the woman in confusion, having no idea how she knew him. "I'm all right, thank you."
Jenna smiled at the familiar look of kindness across his face that reminded her so much of her old friend.
"I know you don't know who I am, but..." she sighed, trying to hold on to her smile. "I just wanted to say that your parents would've been so proud of you. And not just because tonight. But because of the brave and amazing person you've grown out to be."
The moment she mentioned his parents, Neville forgot about how strange it was that the woman knew him, his mind going blank.
"You knew my parents?" he mused.
"Of course I knew them." Jenna's smile widened. "Your mother and I... we were best friends back in our school days."
"Really?" Neville's face lightened up, and Jenna could see in his eyes that he wanted to know more.
Jenna really needed to sit down from exhaustion and the pain in her leg, so she took the seat beside Neville and they got to talking.
After what felt like an hour had passed, Jenna suddenly winced. The baby had kicked again. It was a small pain that she appreciated to have, because it meant that the baby was all right. So saying goodbye to Neville for now, Jenna got up to join Sirius, Remus, and Tonks where they were all gathered.
"You okay?" Remus asked Jenna when he saw that she had placed a hand over her baby bump.
Jenna nodded. "The baby's fine. I can feel it."
After some while, their attention was caught when they saw Lexi approaching them, an expression of disbelief and happiness written in her eyes.
"You're... You're alive..." said Lexi the moment she reached them, gaping at Remus and Tonks.
Jenna frowned down at her worriedly. "Were they not supposed to...?" But Lexi didn't answer, avoiding her eyes.
"What happened to Dolohov?" Lexi asked, looking around at them.
"Antonin Dolohov?" Sirius mused and Lexi nodded. "But... I killed him months ago. I was attacked back then. It was before you were even kidnapped."
"And Bellatrix?" Lexi questioned, looking at Tonks. "Is she dead?"
"No." Tonks shook her head. "She ran away. But I had help." She then smiled and gestured her head at Moody, who was sitting in the distance, drinking from his flask.
Once she moved away, Jenna felt Sirius wrap an arm around her shoulder as they kept on talking. But Jenna couldn't listen to what they were saying. All she could think about was Harry, hoping with all her heart that he hadn't gone to Voldemort.
She couldn't tell how long had passed, only that it was near dawn and that the sky had turned into twilight. But just then, all their attention was caught when from outside the Great Hall, they heard the sound cheering and laughter.
Everyone got to their feet, too hesitant to step forward at first, too scared at what awaited us outside. But as the sound of laughter grew louder and louder, Jenna followed the rest of the Great Hall who one by one they stepped forward, holding her breath as she went.
They all came to a halt when from afar, they saw the Death Eaters moving forward, with Voldemort before them in the lead and Nagini by his side.
A few steps behind him, Jenna saw Hagrid, carrying someone in his arms as tears streamed down his eyes.
"Who is that?" said Ginny in a hollow voice, stepping forward weakly. "Hagrid's carrying... who is it?"
But then everyone fell silent as Voldemort shouted, "HARRY POTTER IS DEAD!"
