Chapter 191
The walls and ceiling of the castle started shaking, and Jenna could feel the ground grumble beneath her feet. She felt her breath hitch when she looked up, watching the shield around Hogwarts shatter down.
She was snapped out of her thoughts when she felt Sirius's presence beside her, and then he moved in front of her, placing his hands on either side of her face to look deep into her eyes.
"Please... go home," Sirius whispered, but Jenna shook her head lightly, her eyes connected with his.
She placed her hands on his. "There's no home without you."
Sirius sighed. "Jenna —"
"Look, once the battle starts, I'll go back to the room we came from; the one that was connected to Aberforth's pub with the tunnel. I'll help the students out of the castle. It will be safe there. I'll stay in that room myself until things are safer again. How about that?"
Sirius seemed hesitate at first, but at least it was better if she stayed in the Room of Requirements and help others escape, rather than stay in the battle field and fight.
So he opened his mouth to speak, but Jenna never got to know what he was going to say, because right at that moment, they heard a loud explosion from the distance.
Looking over, they saw giants, large spiders, the Death Eaters, and the Snatchers, all rushing forward for the battle.
The Hogwarts statues were first to meet them. Dust filled the air and bursts of green and red light were so close to the foot of the castle. Jenna knew the Death Eaters must be very near to entering the place.
"Get back inside and help the others!" Sirius yelled at Jenna through the sound of screams and explosions coming from afar. "Go! NOW!"
Too terrified to able to comprehend what she was supposed do, Jenna ran back inside as she was told. Her wand was held tightly in her grasp, even though her whole body was trembling in fear.
Screams erupted through the castle, and Jenna realized with a shiver of horror that some of the Death Eaters had already managed to make their way inside. There were duelers all over the stairs and in the hall, Death Eaters everywhere she looked: Yaxley was standing close to the front doors, in combat with Flitwick, and a masked Death Eater was dueling Kingsley right beside them. Students ran in every direction, some helping or dragging injured friends.
Jenna's fear suddenly turned into rage the moment her eyes fell on the Death Eater who was duelling Parvati, and she immediately recognized him. It was Travers.
Completely forgetting that she was supposed to head toward the Room of Requirements, Jenna ran forward to take her place beside Parvati, throwing spells at the Death Eater fiercely.
"Go help Dean!" Jenna shouted at Parvati through the yells and screams around them.
Parvati stared at her in surprise for only a second longer, probably wondering how the woman knew her or Dean. But she didn't waste any more time before rushing forward to help Dean, who was facing a masked Death Eater on his own.
"Are you sure a pregnant woman should be allowed to fight, sweetheart?" Travers laughed as Jenna tried to block his spells. But he was surprised when slowly her hair started turning red in fury.
"Are you sure someone like you should be allowed to breathe?" Jenna spat back, finally getting a chance to attack.
And so, with one last wave of her wand, Travers was thrown to the ground with a loud thud. But it wasn't a Stunning charm that Jenna had used. It was the Strangling hex.
With her hair still blazing red, she took slow steps toward him as Travers remained on the dusty floor, fighting for air which had suddenly ceased to reach his lungs, as though invisible hands were wrapped around his throat and tried to strangle him.
"I remember how you laughed while telling the story of how you'd murdered the McKinnon family," Jenna snarled, standing above his writhing body. "I wonder... Why aren't you laughing now?"
She gazed down at him, watching the light leave his eyes and the life leave his body as he laid there motionlessly, his eyes open without seeing.
Jenna was snapped back to reality as she heard an explosion on the corridor to her right. She looked up, her hair turning back to brown as she ran forward with her wand raised and at the ready.
She gasped when she glanced over the edge of the castle through the hole in the wall that had just been blasted. Many giant spiders were climbing the side of the building, liberated from the Forbidden Forest, into which the Death Eaters must have penetrated.
A large spider started crawling through the hole, moving fast toward a girl who was trying to fight off a Death Eater. Not losing the chance, Jenna raised her wand at it and yelled, "Arania Exumai!"
The Acromantulas was blasted away, but Jenna didn't have the time to wait and see if any others would return. Because at that exact moment, she saw two more masked Death Eaters were rushing up the stairs to join the battle.
"Glisseo!" Jenna shouted. The stairs beneath their feet flattened into a chute and the two Death Eaters hurtled downward.
Jenna ran down the hallway through the dust that clogged the air, the falling stone, and the shimmer of spells, her heart pounding in her chest. She ran up the next staircase to get to the Room of Requirements, and found herself in a corridor full of duelers.
Jenna didn't know for how long she had been going, but she groaned and came to a halt when her stomach suddenly gave a little twitch of pain.
She stopped walking abruptly, placing her hand on the wall nearby to catch her breath for a minute.
"LOOK OUT!" someone yelled behind her and Jenna automatically bent down in a quick motion.
The curse wasn't meant for her and was shot a feet away from her, otherwise it would've certainly hit her.
Turning around, she saw it was Tonks who had warned her, who now leapt forward to duel the Death Eater, hitting him with a Stunning Spell and tossing him at a window. The glass shattered when the Death Eater hit it and he fell down.
"Are you all right?" Tonks asked Jenna apprehensively, both of them now panting for air. Jenna nodded without saying anything else, trying to get a bit of her strength back.
From the large broken window, she suddenly saw a great number of Dementors floating toward the castle. Tonks and Jenna both raised their wands to produce a Patronus.
Jenna tried hard to focus on a happy memory. Only for a second, she closed her eyes, recalling the night of her twenty-first birthday. They had all been gathered at the Potter Manor; Jenna, Sirius, James, Lily, Marlene, and Alice. They sang and laughed as they sat around a bonfire, with little Harry in Lily's arms.
"Excpeto Patronum!" Jenna and Tonks yelled at the same time, creating a shield against the demenors.
To make it more powerful, Jenna then tried thinking about when she found out she was pregnant. She tried imagining how her life would be if the war was over, raising her kid along with Sirius. At that, her Patronus grew stronger.
But the moment the dementors flew away, Jenna nearly dropped her wand as a loud and cold voice echoed through the castle. It felt like torture to her ears.
"You have fought valiantly," said the high, cold voice. "Lord Voldemort knows how to value bravery. Yet you have sustained heavy losses. If you continue to resist me, you will all die, one by one. I do not wish this to happen. Every drop of magical blood spilled is a loss and a waste."
Everyone had stopped fighting. They had all lowered their arms, listening.
"Lord Voldemort is merciful. I command my forces to retreat immediately. You have one hour. Dispose of your dead with dignity. Treat your injured."
"I speak now, Harry Potter, directly to you," Voldemort's voice went on. "You have permitted your friends to die for you rather than face me yourself. I shall wait for one hour in the Forbidden Forest. If, at the end of that hour, you have not come to me, have not given yourself up, then battle recommences. This time, I shall enter the fray myself, Harry Potter, and I shall find you, and I shall punish every last man, woman, and child who has tried to conceal you from me. One hour."
