Chapter 138
After Sirius received Snape's Patronus, the feeling of panic washed over him. With trembling hands, he summoned the other Order members, and so Moody, Kingsley, Tonks, and Remus showed up as soon as they got the message. Although Sirius feared that it would be too late, and that they had already captured Harry and the others.
"Sirius!" Remus cried out, moving forward urgently into the house. "We came as soon as we heard! What's going on!?"
"Snape contacted me through Floo Network first," Sirius started to explain briskly, finding it hard to breathe. "He said that Harry's had a vision like the one he had of Arthur! He thinks that Voldemort has captured me in the Department of Mysteries! They're trying to break into the Ministry!"
"Then we have to leave!" Moody growled, limping his way forward. "Now!"
"It would be too late." They all turned around at the bitter voice, only to see Kreacher lurking around.
"Meaning?" Sirius snarled.
"Kreacher told him..." the house elf went on. "Kreacher told the Potter boy, just as he was asked..."
Sirius made a move forward angrily, but Remus held him back.
"Now's not the time, Sirius," Remus said sharply.
"I'll deal with you when I come back," Sirius growled at Kreacher, taking his wand out.
"Come back?" Remus repeated, shaking his head briskly. "No. There's no way you're coming with us!"
"You can try to stop me," Sirius said sternly, making his way over the door.
"Don't act deranged, Sirius," Moody growled, his magical eye following Sirius. "We are entering the Ministry of Magic. You're a wanted man."
"I don't give a damn," Sirius said coldly, opening the door to Grimmauld Place.
"Sirius, please think about it —" Remus was trying to say, but he cut him off.
"Stay out of this Remus! Harry's in danger! You can't expect me to sit here and do nothing!" Sirius snarled, stepping outside and finally standing beneath the dark sky.
Kingsley followed him right after, along with Moody and Tonks, which left no time for Remus to protest any further. The moment they stepped outside Grimmauld Place, they Disapparated one by one, appearing the next moment in London, following Moody's lead into the Ministry of Magic.
The Ministry was empty and quiet, except for the sound of their rushed footsteps and their loud breathings.
"This way!" Moody growled, leading them toward the Department of Ministry.
They were now standing in a large, circular room. Everything there was black including the floor and ceiling, shimmering light reflected in the shining marble floor so that it looked as though there was dark water underfoot.
The five of them rushed forward, trying to find the others. They entered the Hall of Prophecy, but found the place empty and yet in a horrible mess. A fight had taken place here, which only meant one thing.
The Death Eaters had gotten here sooner than them.
Moody's magical eye roamed the Hall as the rest remained still. "I see them," Moody growled, raising his wand even higher as they started to run toward a door at the end of the Hall.
But the closer they got to the door, the louder the sounds of screaming got. It was a girl. She was being tortured.
"Now, Potter, either give us the prophecy, or watch your little friend die the hard way!" They heard a woman say, but then she shrieked out once more, "Crucio!"
"No..." Sirius said in a hollow voice as the girl screamed again, making a run toward the door, bursting it open.
Bellow them, Sirius saw a circular room with an archway in the middle, surrounded by Death Eaters. And there was Lexi, writhing on the floor as she screamed at the top of her lungs as Bellatrix tortured her.
Feeling the anger and horror surge from within him, the next moment Sirius raised his wand and aimed it at Bellatrix. And then, in a flash of a light, Bellatrix was thrown into the air and hit the wall behind her.
"That's what you get for hurting her," Sirius yelled through gritted teeth.
At that exact moment, two more doors burst open and the other Order members rushed inside. But out of the shock at the sudden crashing sound of Bellatrix being thrown away, Harry abruptly jerked around, the prophecy slipped from his hand, and fell to the floor. Lucius leaped forward to catch it, but he was too late as the orb hit the ground and shattered into pieces.
The Death Eaters were completely distracted by the appearance of the members of the Order, who were now raining spells down upon them as they jumped from step to step toward the sunken floor. They let go of the children and dashed forward to fight them.
"Get down!" Tonks shrieked as she led the youngsters behind the staircase for shelter as the rest of the members of the Order were dwelling.
Harry was the only one of them who was still in the middle of the battle, with Sirius by his side.
"Petrificus Totalus!" Harry yelled, his wand pointed at Dolohov whose arms and legs snapped together and he keeled over backward, landing with a crash on his back.
"Nice one!" shouted Sirius, forcing Harry's head down as a pair of Stunning Spells flew toward them. "Now I want you to get out of —" They both ducked again.
A jet of light had narrowly missed Sirius and instead hit Tonks and threw her away, her wand falling right before their feet as Bellatrix gave a triumphant shriek of laughter.
"Harry, take the others and run!" Sirius yelled, dashing to meet Bellatrix.
Harry started running towards the others as Sirius had asked him to. But just then, Hermione cried out as she pointed above them at one of the doors, "Oh, God... Dumbledore!"
They all looked up and saw that directly above them, framed in the doorway which they had fallen through, stood Albus Dumbledore, his wand aloft, his face white and furious.
Dumbledore was already at the foot of the steps when the Death Eaters nearest realized he was there. There were yells; one of the Death Eaters ran for it, but Dumbledore pulled him back with his wand as though with invisible strings.
Only Sirius and Bellatrix were still battling, apparently unaware of the new arrival.

Jenna couldn't Apparate within the grounds of Hogwarts, so she had to run all the way outside the Forbidden Forest and get her to Hogsmeade, still in the form of another witch. The moment she left Hogwarts, she closed her eyes and Apparated straight to London, running down into the Ministry.
She had been to the Hall of Prophecy so many times over summer for her guarding duty, so she didn't have to think twice about where she was going as she entered the Department of Mysteries. She turned left to right, trying to find the others. But she finally came to a halt when she heard screams and shouts from the already-opened doors at the end of the hall.
With her wand clutched so firmly in her hand that had made her knuckle fo white, Jenna ran forward, breathing more heavily than ever before. But the moment she looked through the door, all the color drained from her face.
All the children were gathered there, almost all of them seemed injured, and so was Tonks. Dumbledore was standing there, effortlessly capturing the Death Eaters, and Sirius was in the middle of a dwell with Bellatrix, unaware of the new arrivals.
Although Jenna's eyes were now fixed on Lexi, who was also among them. The girl seemed weak, but mostly horrified as she watched the battle between Sirius and Bellatrix. But then, something strange started to happen. Lexi started trembling, as though she was in deep pain, and then the next moment, illuminating blue lights started to spread through her veins, as if she were burning from the inside.
Jenna made a move forward to help her, but she hadn't even gotten to the bottom of the stairs that she came to halt when she heard a loud shriek from Bellatrix.
Sirius laughed and yelled at Bellatrix as he dwelled her in the distance, "Come on, you can do better than that!"
Everything happened at once. Sirius was slightly distracted as he ducked once more and laughed. Bellatrix took the opportunity and raised her wand at him.
"NO!" Jenna screamed, but it was too late.
Bellatrix had already cried out, "AVADA KEDAVRA!"
