A Panicked Welcome

***

A light summer breeze came down the lane to meet Sirius and Jenna, laden with the perfume of blossomed flowers outside the Potter Manor. The early morning sun shone above them as the couple strolled through the Muggle town near their house.

"Why do we have to take walks every day?" Jenna groaned, a hand over her big baby bump.

"Because the book said walking is a good exercise in the last month of pregnancy," Sirius tried to reason with her. He had unusually become the sensible one between the two of them throughout the last few months.

"Screw the book!" Jenna huffed from exhaustion. "Who's to tell the person who wrote it is trustworthy?"

"The author of the book was a celebrated Healer. He actually —"

"Oh, so the author was a he, was he?" Jenna rolled her eyes playfully, now grinning. "Well, he never had to walk around everyday with a baby in his stomach with the weight of a freaking watermelon! I can no longer see my own feet, for crying out loud!"

Sirius laughed. "It was just a book to help pregnant witches, Jenny. No need to get all aggressive about it."

"I'll show the author what aggressive looks like if I see him. I'll definitely give him a piece of my mind." Jenna nodded with determination. "It's so hard to move around! It feels so heavy that I'm actually starting to think that the baby's gonna be a centaur!"

"Look, how about we go to your favorite restaurant? You can rest a bit there, and we'll get something to eat," Sirius suggested, running a hand through Jenna's blue hair.

"Ooh, yes! Food!" Jenna's grin widened, her mood quickly picking up. Her appetite had doubled throughout the last few weeks, which Sirius took as a good sign.

When Sirius and Jenna entered the Muggle restaurant they often visited, the waiter already knew what to bring them as soon as they sat down. Without having to order anything, minutes later the young waiter approached them and placed a large plate of hot chicken wings in front of them on the table.

"Thank you." Sirius smiled at the waiter politely, but Jenna had already reached out for the first one, taking a big bite from it.

For the past few weeks, Jenna had started craving spicy food, and her favorite had soon become chicken wings after the first try. Sirius either had to accompany her to this place everyday to order some, or on the days she felt too tired to get out of bed, he would go down to town to bring a box for her.

"Tastes good?" Sirius asked as Jenna reached out for a second one, watching her with an amused grin as he tried not to laugh.

"It's great!" Jenna nodded with glee.

"Then let me try — ouch!" Sirius raised his arm to pick one, but Jenna smacked his hand away.

"Mine," she said with her mouth full, smirking.

Sirius shook his head at her. "That baby better be chubby when she's born, after all the food you've been vacuuming into your belly lately."

"I still think it's going to be a boy." Jenna corrected him. "But, I mean, as long as the baby's not a centaur, I'll love that kid to death no matter what."

Sirius laughed, reaching out for a wing again, and this time Jenna let him take one. But he didn't dare to pick up a second one after that.

"Well, that's that," Jenna said with a grin, glancing down at the empty plate after half-an-hour. "But I really need to use the loo now. I swear the baby's pushing my bladder on purpose."

Laughing, Sirius got to his feet. "Need any help to get up?"

"Oh, yes. Definitely." Jenna scoffed, and so Sirius raised both his hands for her to take, helping her to her feet.

With difficulty, Jenna got up from the chair, but she suddenly let out a loud gasp and placed a hand over her baby bump.

"What is it?" Sirius asked worriedly, looking over at her with a frown.

Jenna didn't reply right away, and instead breathed in and out deeply before soothing down her nerves and saying, "Nothing. Just a little twist. But it's gone n —  AARGH!" She suddenly yelled again, closing her eyes shut in pain.

"Oh, God... Oh, Lord... it's time, isn't it!? It is, isn't it!? It's the baby!" Sirius started rambling, his eyes wide in horror.

"Ouch — just get me to — argh — get me to St. Mungos," Jenna grumbled, breathing heavily to calm the pain, but there was no use.

"St. Mungos — yes — no need to freak out — we've got this — we've totally got this —"

     "Sirius, calm down —"

     "I'M CALM!"

***

In a surge of panic, Sirius managed to get Jenna to St. Mungo's in no time. The Healers were quick to take her to a special room while Jenna grumbled in pain and Sirius freaked out. It came to a point that the Healers had to throw him out of the room, telling him to wait in the corridor.

Sirius kept pacing up and down the corridor, his heart beating rapidly as he waited for one of the Healers to come out of Jenna's room with news.

Just then, his head darted up when he heard footsteps rushing up the hallway toward him. Turning around, Sirius saw Remus and Tonks approaching him in a hurry, a nervous look across their faces.

Sirius had sent them a Patronus a few minutes ago, announcing that Jenna was having the baby. But it was Sirius who seemed to be in extreme need of emotional support at the moment.

"Padfoot! We came as soon as we got your Patronus," said Remus hastily as soon as they reached him.

"Yeah, we took Teddy to my mum's house and got here as fast as possible," said Tonks, slightly panting from the run. "How's Jenna doing?"

"I don't know," Sirius said in a state of panic, feeling like he couldn't stand still. "Those stupid Healers kicked me out of her room."

    "Why?" Remus mused.

"For no reason at all!" Sirius almost yelled, not in his right mind.

"I highly doubt that," Tonks muttered to herself, looking at him up and down and taking in his messed up state.

"I promise you that both her and the baby will be all right," Remus tried to say comfortingly, his voice calm and gentle. "Trust me. I'm sure she's doing just fine."

"Easy for you to say," said Tonks, raising her brows at him accusingly. "You're not the one pushing a baby out of you!"

"Maybe I should just go back in —" Sirius, who had had enough, made a move toward the room, but Remus was quick to hold him back.

     "Just try to be patient."

"I can't! I can't be patient! I'M FREAKING OUT, MOONY!" Sirius started flapping his arms hysterically, panicking once again.

"Sirius, you're acting like a lunatic right now!" Tonks snapped at him, trying to hold back the urge to laugh.

"But what if the baby's a centaur!?"

"What?" Remus and Tonks said at the same time.

"This is what I get. This is what I deserve after laughing at James when Harry was being born," said Sirius, sitting down on one of the chairs set outside in the corridor as he ran a hand through his hair.

"Padfoot, it's normal to freak out a bit. I did too," said Remus, shrugging with a little smile. "But everything's going to be f—"

Remus was saying, but his words were cut off when the door to Jenna's room opened and one of the Healers walked out, a bright smile on her lips. Sirius promptly shot to his feet, gaping at her in horror.

"How is she? How's the baby?" he asked rapidly, not even waiting to catch his breath in between words.

"Your wife is feeling good and she's healthy," the Healer replied, smiling. "And so is your son."

"My — my s-son?" Sirius said breathlessly, unable to even blink. "I have a son?"

"Merlin's beard! Congratulations!" Tonks exclaimed and Remus happily patted Sirius on the shoulder, who was grinning like a fool even though he was still in shock.

"You may come in now," said the Healer.

Sirius looked back at Remus and Tonks, still transfixed on the spot.

"Go ahead. We'll let the others know," Remus said kindly, nodding at him encouragingly.

Sirius gave him a weak nod of his head before following the Healer inside the room, his heart pounding in his chest out of happiness.

When he entered the room, his heart skipped a beat and he froze on the spot as he saw Jenna laying there on the bed beside the window, with their little boy in her arms.

Feeling his presence, Jenna looked up at him with a tired smile, but she failed to find the words that could possibly describe the love and happiness she was feeling at the moment.

With tears filling his eyes, Sirius took slow steps forward until he reached her bed, his eyes fixed on the tiny baby in her arms.

"This... oh, just look at him!" Sirius let out a small chuckle, a tear rolling down his eye.

"Want to hold him?" Jenna whispered, looking up at him through tired yet happy eyes.

Sirius hesitated at first, his gaze on the baby's tiny fingers and his little nose. Sirius was afraid of waking him, but he nodded either way, reaching out to take the baby from Jenna and holding him in his arms, with a soft blue blanket wrapped around him.

"He's so tiny," Sirius whispered with a little laugh, unable to hold back his happy tears.

"Yeah, he is..." Jenna chuckled, laying her head back down on the pillow and resting her eyes for a minute.

"Look, Jenny! He's opening his eyes!" Sirius said in an excited whisper, sitting next to Jenna at the edge of the bed with the baby still in his arms.

Jenna immediately looked up, lifting her head from the pillow with every last bit of energy she had left in her as the baby started to open his grayish-blue eyes slowly.

Jenna laughed happily. "He has your eyes."

Both their eyes widened the next moment when the baby started crying and the few strands of hair on his head turned red.

"Another Metamorphmagus! God have mercy on us all!" Sirius laughed, gently handing the baby back to his mother's embrace.

Less than ten minutes later when the baby was fed, he fell quiet and closed his gray eyes again, going back to sleep in Jenna's arms.

"How are you feeling?" Sirius asked Jenna softly, placing a strand of her hair behind her ear.

     "Exhausted," she answered honestly.

"It's understandable." Sirius nodded lightly. "But it's a good thing that we didn't panic."

Jenna gave him a look, but she only smiled and shook her head at him.

An hour had barely passed and yet they stayed in that same position, with Jenna laying in bed and the baby in her arms, and Sirius sitting right beside her at the edge of the bed. It was then that the door to their room slowly opened after they heard a gentle knock, and they saw Tonks peeking her head inside.

"Can we come in?" she asked in a quiet voice, her smile wider than ever.

"Of course! Come in, come in!" Sirius nodded cheerfully, gesturing her inside.

When Tonks opened the door fully, Jenna and Sirius were surprised yet happy to see Harry, Ginny, Ron, and Hermione following her inside. Remus entered the room last, closing the door behind him.

"Ooh, look at him!" Hermione gasped, placing a hand over her heart as her eyes filled up with tears.

Everyone gathered around Jenna's bed, their eyes on the little baby who was asleep in her arms peacefully.

"How are you feeling, Aunt Jenna?" Harry asked her quietly, careful so he wouldn't wake the baby up.

     Jenna smiled. "Never better."

"So have you decided on a name yet?" Ginny finally asked after a minute or so of silence, during which time everyone was looking at the baby.

Sirius and Jenna shared a knowing look, before Jenna looked back at them and nodded, saying, "We have, actually. We decided to carry on the tradition of naming him after a star or constellations; just like Sirius and Regulus and Andromeda."

"Oooh, what is it?" Tonks asked excitedly.

Before Jenna could open her mouth to reply, Sirius quickly beat her into it and said, "His name is Elvendork Proof-that-Sirius-and-Jenna-shagged Black."

     "Awesome!" Ron grinned.

"No it's not!" Jenna glared at Sirius.

"Why not!?" Sirius implored with a playful smirk. "At least let Elvendork be his middle name! It's unisex!"

     "No!"

"Come on, Jenny," Sirius went on with a teasing smile, "James would've definitely approved of it."

"Oh, just tell us his name already!" Tonks blurted, the excitement almost exploding out of her.

"All right, everyone," Jenna smiled, looking down at the little baby who was asleep in her arms, "this is Leo James Black."

The next morning, Jenna was allowed to leave the hospital and return to the Potter Manor along with their newborn baby. Little Leo was asleep in his crib inside the room which Sirius and Jenna had prepared for him, right next to their own bedroom upstairs.

Jenna's smile still hadn't left her face as she stayed by the crib with Sirius's arm wrapped around her as they stood side by side, watching the baby sleeping peacefully. His few strands of hair had turned black, which meant that he had taken his hair color after his father, as well as his eyes.

"You know what I realized yesterday at the hospital?" Sirius whispered.

      "What?" Jenna asked.

He turned his head to look at her sideways. "When the Healer came out of the room to call me, she referred to you as my wife."

     "What's wrong with that?"

"What's wrong with that is that we haven't gotten married yet. We've been engaged for nearly two decades now!"

Jenna giggled. "You make it sound so dramatic. It's not that much of a big deal."

"Well, it's a big deal to me," Sirius said before grinning as an idea made its way over his head. "Give me your ring."

     Jenna frowned in confusion. "Why?"

"Just give it." Sirius insisted as he raised his hand, and so Jenna took off her engagement ring and placed it on his palm.

She let out a laugh the next moment when Sirius held onto the ring and went on one knee before her.

"It's been so long that it only feels right that I should propose again. This time for real, with no war or prison to hold us back. I can't possibly picture my life without you. Not even for a second. Jenna Potter... you were my first kiss, and I want you to be my last. I want this forever," said Sirius, smiling up at her. "Will you marry me?"

"Yes." Jenna nodded lightly at first before letting out a laughter. "Yes, you dramatic idiot! Of course I'll marry you!"

Smirking, Sirius got up to his feet again and gently took Jenna's left hand in his, placing the ring around her finger.

Jenna looked down at it with mock-disappointment. "Ugh, the same ring?"

Sirius laughed and shook his head before taking hold of her hand and pulling her toward him so that she bumped into his chest with a little gasp, before brining her into a kiss.

"I love you so much, Kitten," he whispered against her lips, pulling away slightly.

Jenna smiled as he rested his forehead down against hers, his eyes closed. "I love you too, Snuffles."

***

Nearly eight months had past since the birth of their first child in August, and Sirius and Jenna had chosen that beautiful April day for their wedding ceremony.

There were many reasons as to why they had chosen to have their wedding during the Easter break. For one, it was important to them that Remus should be able to make it to the wedding.

Ever since Voldemort's death, the jinx on the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher's job had been lifted, and so Remus returned to Hogwarts as a professor.

After the war, he was declared the first werewolf to have ever recieved an Order of Merlin, First Class, and no one minded his condition anymore.

Kingsley, who had become the new Minister of Magic, lifted all the anti-werewolf legislation which Dolores Umridge had drafted years ago, and had sent her to Azkaban for all her crimes. So this made everything easier for Remus and people with his condition.

Jenna and Sirius, however, had decided to not pursue a job for a year, so they could stay at home with their newborn baby and spend more time as a family, now that they finally had it after nearly two decades of war and separation.

With the money they had inherited from both their families, they could even go on without working for a lifetime. Although Sirius was planning on joining the Department of Magical Law Enforcement soon, just like Tonks.

The second reason Sirius and Jenna had waited more than seven months to get married was because they wanted baby Leo to grow up a bit more. This way, they could leave him in Andromeda's care for a week, so they could enjoy a short vacation for their honeymoon.

A honeymoon wasn't originally in their plan before, but Andromeda insisted that they needed a break. She reassured them that she could look after baby Leo with no problem, seeing as lately she had taken care of Teddy on many occasions.

Their wedding was more glorious and magnificent than anyone could have ever imagined. Because it had taken them so long to get married, Sirius and Jenna saw it fit to go a bit extra with the ceremony.

Hundreds of guests were invited, all gathered in the beautiful meadow near the Potter Manor, where Jenna would go with her parents and brother as a kid each summer to play Quidditch.

The field was full of wild flowers and dandelions. There was also a small lake nearby, next to which a beautiful arch was set at the end of the aisle for the ceremony. The sun was almost setting in the horizon as a cool breeze passed by every once in a while, bringing with itself the scent of the flowers.

"Thank you for coming, Professor," Sirius told McGonagall with a grin, who had taken a day off from her responsibilities as Hogwarts' new headmistress.

"I guess two congratulations are in order. One for the wedding, and the other for the birth your child," said McGonagall with a smile, her eyes on the little baby boy who was asleep in Sirius's arms. Although she then let out a sigh, saying, "A Potter-Black boy coming to Hogwarts in the same year as a Lupin... I guess I should mark my calendar to resign that day."

Sirius let out a mocking gasp. "Was that humor I heard, Minnie? That is so unlike you!"

"Mr. Black, the fact that I am no longer your professor doesn't give you the right to call me such nickname!"

"Oh, come on, Minnie. It's my wedding day!" said Sirius with a chuckle, and McGonagall had to hold herself back from smiling.

As the guests took their seats, facing the arch which was made of white flowers, Sirius handed Leo to Molly and went to stand at the altar, wearing his best tuxedo. He had cut his black hair slightly shorter though had left the beard on, looking more handsome than ever.

"Nervous?" Remus asked, who stood beside Sirius along with Harry.

Sirius had chosen both of them as his best man, while Jenna had made Tonks and Hermione her bridesmaids; somehow the two of them reminded her of Marlene and Lily.

"Not really," Sirius answered, his eyes lovingly fixed on his son, who was asleep in Molly's arms. Andromeda was taking care of Teddy, who was around one year old now and had recently learnt how to walk.

"Why are there five seats empty on the front row, by the way?" Harry asked curiously.

"It was Jenna's idea," Sirius replied with a sad smile over his lips, though he didn't answer Harry's question.

Just then, the guests fell quiet as an enchanted acoustic guitar started playing. Sirius took in a deep breath, turning around to look at the end of the aisle, where Hermione and Tonks were walking across, both looking beautiful in their golden dresses.

Once they reached the altar, the guests got to their feet and awed when they saw the bride walking down the aisle, her long wedding dress dragging gracefully on the ground behind her.

Sirius's breath hitched at her sight, as though it was the first time he was seeing her. Jenna had turned her hair to her original brown color, though she had made it longer as the waves fell down her back.

He noticed that her brown hair was designed with little white daisies, and she was holding onto a bouquet of lilies.

Once Jenna reached the altar, she sent Sirius a shy smile as she stood beside him, now both of them turning to face the officiant wizard who was performing the ceremony.

"You look beautiful," Sirius whispered to Jenna, glancing at her sideways.

"You don't look too bad yourself, Mr. Black," Jenna whispered back, winking at him.

"Please retake your seats, ladies and gentlemen," said the officiant wizard. The guests did as asked, beaming at the couple. "We are gathered here, on this beautiful day, to celebrate the union of two faithful soul, and to cherish the words which shall unite Sirius Black and Jenna Potter in marriage. Shall we proceed to the vows?"

Nodding, Sirius and Jenna turned to face each other, holding one another's hands after Jenna handed her flower bouquet to Hermione to hold for the time being.

"Ladies first," said Sirius with a playful grin, making her chuckle.

"All right," Jenna started, her smile wide as she looked deep into his grey eyes. "Throughout the years of being together, so many things had come between us. Many things had gone wrong, pushing us apart. But even the mere thought of you had somehow made it all easier for me to endure. There were times that I had lost all hope, believing that this day would never come. So now that I stand here with you... it feels like a dream. I love you, Sirius Black. And I vow to love you forever, even though forever is not enough time to be with you."

"Wow..." Sirius let out a little chuckle, blinking the tears away that had formed in his eyes. "For the record, I'm not crying. My eyes are just allergic to beautiful moment."

Everyone chuckled at that. Hermione had a handkerchief in hand, wiping away her own tears.

"Jenna Potter," Sirius started, clearing his throat to recollect his nerves, "I know that not everything had gone as planned twenty years ago, when I had first proposed to you. We both made mistakes along the way, but you make me thank God for every mistake I've ever made, because those mistakes, someway, somehow, led me to this moment, with you. And I promise to cherish every living minute of being with you and our son — or any other children we might have in the future. I've loved you for years, my Jenny, and I'll love you forever."

Jenna smiled, trying to hold back her own tears. Deep down she knew that her parents were here on this day, along with Lily, James, and Marlene. Her father would certainly be crying if he were here to hear all this.

"I love you," Jenna whispered again, a tear rolling down her rosy cheek.

"The rings, please," the officiant wizard said softly, and so Tonks and Remus walked forward, handing the rings to the couple. "Do you, Sirius Black, take this woman as your wife?"

"I do." Sirius smiled, putting the ring around her finger.

"And do you, Jenna Potter, take this man as your husband?"

Jenna let out a small laugh as she nodded, giving him the ring. "I do."

"And so, with the power vested in me, I pronounce you husband and wife," said the wizard, smiling. "You may now kiss the bride."

At those words, Sirius placed his arms around Jenna's waist to pull her closer to him, bringing his lips down on hers. The guests cheered and clapped as Jenna wrapped her arms around Sirius's neck as well, kissing him back.

Forever may not have been long enough for the love that they shared, but this was certainly a start.
