Epologue

Maui POV

It's been eleven years. Eleven years since Moana's death. It still affected me, though. I still had nightmares about it and sometimes I find myself back at the top of Mt. Montinui, wondering if Moana was watching me from above.

It was Oceana's fifth birthday party. She had run off into the woods and I had ran after her.

I heard the small child's giggles from somewhere to the left. I turned and froze at what I saw. My jaw hit the ground and my heart was racing.

There she was, balancing Oceana on her hip and pressing her forehead to the little girl's. Oceana let out another giggle as the woman threw in the air and caught her.

Oceana laughed with delight as the woman before me spun my daughter around in the air.

They messed around for a little longer both smiling like idiots.

I still couldn't process the sight in front of me. She looked the exact same as she had eleven years ago, just, happier.

She set the little girl down and reached behind her neck, taking off her necklace. She placed it around Oceana's neck and pressed a finger to her lips, telling Oceana to keep quiet.

Oceana giggled and nodded in response.

The woman shooed the little girl off and she glanced at me with a warm but sad smile before disappearing back into the woods and out of sight.

Moana.

"Where did you get that necklace sweetie?" Layla questioned.

"I gave it to her," I butted in.

Oceana looked at me and I winked. Her eyes widened in understanding. She may only be five but she was diffidently smart. I smiled at her and kissed Layla's forehead.

"I'll be putting our little princess to bed," I offered.

I often called Oceana princess or curly. Her spirit reminded me so much of Moana.

10 years later, Oceana POV

I approached my father cautiously.

"Dad?" I asked.

"Yeah curly?" he replied with a smile.

"Who was that woman?"

He froze. "Wh-what woman?"

"Don't play dumb, you know exactly what I'm talking about," I said, crossing my arms.

He looked around to see if mom was around. "Will you promise not to tell," he asked. I nodded eagerly.

"That woman was Moana, my partner and best friend," he replied with a sad sigh.

"She was also your lover," I said with shock.

He nodded, a pain-stricken look on his face. "She died twenty-one years ago."

I nodded and wiped away one of his years wit my thumb. "I'm sure you felt very lucky," I cooed.

He looked up at me with a sad smile. "I was way beyond lucky," he said wit a halfhearted chuckle.

As I grew older and older my mother died but since I was the child of a demigod I was immortal. I also found out later that I could shift into a dog. But that was it.

I never did forget the name Moana, never. Not even after the first thousand years passed. I kept her necklace on me at all time and I learned to be a master way-finder.

Moana visits me often though. In spirit form. She's taken a new form as a wolf, playful and adventurous. I could always tell when it was her. The wolf looked exactly as my dog did.

My dad and I found peace. He never did fall in love again. I could understand why. He lost two women that he loved.

I set off in the world. I stayed in Montinui, living as Niamey's, the chief's daughter, pet. I was content with my life. It wasn't difficult but it wasn't easy either.

My life was perfect.
