Chapter 17: Unseen manice

My head was buzzing as I made my way into my room, legs walking without me really registering that they were. It was like I was on auto pilot. Walking, moving, being without me actually realizing I was. My mind was lost, still in that meeting, still looking straight into Windu's eyes as he continued to accuse me of being a 'sith'. I could almost hear his words, feel his scrutinizing gaze on the side of my head.

Then, I saw Cad Bane's eyes. It was almost ironic that his eyes were red too. The way he so confidently captured me and spoke of his contractor made a chill run up my spine that felt all too similar to one I had felt before. This man that was hunting me was persistent. What frightened me the most was that I had no clue who he was, nor what he wanted with me. It seemed that in the end I had only replaced Arthas with someone else, maybe even someone worse. At least I knew who Blackwing was and what he was after. This new threat, I had no clue whatsoever.

Rubbing my knuckles against my temple, I tried to get myself back to where I was. With a deep sigh I looked around the room, heard the troopers outside and Stefan's voice as he spoke to them. Obi Wan had taken us back and started his first patrol around the building. I was left alone with my thoughts once again.

Yet, I couldn't help but feel lifted. Despite everything, despite me breaking the rules they had set for me, despite running away the jedi had actually sided with me this time. Obi Wan stood up for me and it made me giddy with both excitement and a warm appreciation that blossomed in my chest. Finally, something good had happened and I had a way out if it got bad. Someone had my back, and I trusted him with everything I had.

I changed out of my ruined dress while humming, not caring in the slightest about anything anymore, letting my guard down without really noticing. Knowing he was outside made me feel safer than ever before. Standing in the bathroom whilst looking at myself, washing off the make-up, I felt an odd sense of peace wash over me until suddenly it evaporated like snow before the sun.

The moment I looked up from the sink red eyes were staring right back at me. Golden hues woven through the irises, flaring anger evident in them. My whole body froze as I gazed back, mouth hanging slightly agape. It was like my own eyes were replaced by Arthas's, like I was looking right at him in my own body. Blinking several times, the image was suddenly gone and once again I saw the familiar green shade.

"For the love of Freya." I sighed, leaning on the sink, breathing heavily as my heart thumped wildly. It's not real. I'd thought it was over. That after the session with Yoda and Obi, he had gone and so had the visions. But his presence was more evident than ever, pressing on me, suffocating me even here. It was like darkness surrounded me. A thick, dark mist that clouded my vision. Windu was right.

"He's not real." Closing my eyes, I took in a deep breath to calm myself. "He can't hurt you." When I opened my eyes again I only saw the shining white of the sink and my flaming red hair framing the vision. All seemed to be normal again until I heard a soft voice whispering behind me, as if talking to himself.

"He's here." In one swift move I turned around, only to be met with the sight of him, standing there, his eyes unfocused. He wasn't even looking at me. No, his eyes stared out through the door, to the chambers, as if he was staring at someone I couldn't see. His fists clenched and unclenched at his side nervously.

"Arthas?" An ice-cold fear crept up my spine as I studied him, walking closer carefully to try and figure out what he was. He can't be here. A voice whispered in the back of my head. He's locked up back on Valeria. He stood there before me, dressed in his battle attire like the last time I saw him, his black hair framing his brown eyes. Brown. They weren't red. Instead, they were an almost familiar warm brown that seemed to prod my mind for distant memories.

At the sound of my voice, he was shaken from his trance and slowly turned his gaze towards me. Again, I stopped in my tracks, feeling like a deer caught in the headlights. Blackwing seemed to be confused for a few seconds, eyeing me up and down as if making sure I was staring right back at him. "He's here." Arthas repeated more urgently, his dark eyebrows knotting together.

"What?" I stuttered, my hands shaking at my side. Suddenly his gaze grew more urgent as he stepped towards me, grasping both my shoulders tightly in his hands. I could almost feel his fingers digging into the skin but at the same time it was like I was touched by ice.

"You have to go." Arthas barked, eyes staring right into mine. "You have to run."

"I, - I... what are you talking about?" I wasn't sure whether I should feel frightened by his presence, or the threat he was referring to. There was no hostility in his eyes as he looked at me. Yet, the memory of him practically tearing Eagle's Fall to pieces was something that I couldn't forget.

Arthas sighed in frustration, his eyes darting back in the direction he'd been staring at before. Then, his eyes widened and his jaw clenched. "I am too late." He mumbled.

"Arthas?" I tried to shake him, to try and get his attention back to me but my hands went right through his body, as if trying to catch air. It was as if he'd slipped into a dream. Then, his body started to disappear and turn into smoke.

Just before he was completely gone he turned back towards me. A familiar phrase he spoke, but not in the way he said it before. "You will not survive." It sounded sad, apolagic even, as if it was his fault and that he regretted it with all his heart.

I was left standing there by myself, eyebrows furrowed, breath caught in my throat. That icy, menacing presence remained but I realized that it wasn't him. Quite the contrary, the presence was more evident now than ever.

It was silent aside from the usual noise from the city. A silence that suddenly felt heavy and threatening. Somehow I started to regret that he left, even though he'd been my enemy mere months ago.

With shaking limbs, I cautiously made my way into the room, looking around the corner before stalking towards the nightstand and grasping my sword tightly in my hands. Outside, I couldn't hear the troopers converse as usual. Instead, I heard heavy footsteps making their way towards the door, accompanied by a bone-chilling mad chuckle that echoed through the room.

Then, I saw the doorknob turning and knew that I had no time left to decide on what to do. When a hooded figure came through the door opening I grasped the nearest thing I could grasp and threw it his way. The vase shattered as it hit his head and I left him no time to recover before I jumped right onto him, sword raised.

But this man had unusual reflexes. He'd dodged my attack, and instead used my speed against me and threw me against the wall in one swift move. "Wait!" I didn't register his voice, instead I went right back to attack after I'd recovered. Grasping his arm that was holding onto a lightsaber, I pushed him against the opposite wall with a load yell.

He budged easily and threw his hands up in the air, which made me stall my movements. Using my temporal confusement, he wringed the blade from my hand and turned us around, so that I was safely pinned against the wall. I had already started to raise my knee to knock him in the sensitive parts when I looked at him. It was when l I noticed the icy blue of his eyes that I realized who it was.

"Lyanna, calm down!" He yelled swiftly. We both took a deep breath to calm ourselves, studying each other as we filled out lungs. "It's me." He spoke softer after.

"Obi!" I whispered accusingly when I had somewhat recovered. "You scared me to death!"

"I scared you?!" Obi Wan's brows were furrowed, his eyes widened in temporary anger. "I was the one that got attacked the moment I entered!"

"Yes, well..." I sighed, feeling my heartbeat slowing in his presence. It fastened almost immediately when that same chuckle suddenly echoed through the room. When Obi's frown deepened and his gaze was cast to the side in concentration, I knew he felt the same presence as I did. "You feel him too, don't you?" Whispering even softer, I studied his expression.

Kenobi nodded almost invisibly, his hand holding his lightsaber tightening the grip. Slowly he stepped away from me as his eyes scanned the room. "It's Arthas, isn't it?" I prodded him again, following in his footsteps.

"Stay behind me." The moment I moved, he put a hand before my body, trying to shield me from the unseen menace. "It's not Arthas, this one feels... different, familiar." Obi Wan continued, igniting his lightsaber to lighten the room. "Darker." He finished. A tense moment passed, filled with but the sound of our hastened breath. Then suddenly, he sighed, shutting off his lightsaber.

"What is it?" I stuttered, glancing his way again. "You know who it is?"

"I'm afraid not, princess." He rubbed his beard in thought as he turned back towards me. "But he's gone for now."

"Gone?" I frowned, scoffing in disbelief. "Obi, I just saw Arthas right before my eyes, telling me I wouldn't survive. You're going to have to be damned sure we're in the clear right now."

"You saw Arthas?" he seemed even more perplexed than before.

"Well... Yes."

"And you've seen him before?" There was a hint of contempt hidden underneath his concern.

"Yes, but Obi, -" I grasped his upper arm tightly to get his attention when he scoffed and turned away. "I don't think he's the problem here."

"No, of course he's not." He snapped, sighing deeply afterwards as he rubbed his temple. "It's even worse than I thought." His eyes finally focused on me. "He's gotten into your head. He's found Arthas."

"What do you mean he's found Arthas?"

"Arthas is..." Obi Wan sighed, leaning his hand against the wall. "More powerful than any sith we've encountered. I knew the moment any other dark force users heard of him; they'd try to find him. To take his power. Now, he's using you to find him."

"What? Who?"

"I'm not sure, princess. The jedi council has been trying to find out for years." He clenched his jaw as he looked down at me, lifting his hand to softly stroke my cheek. "Listen, I'll stay up all night to be sure he's gone and do some research in the meantime. You, you need to get some rest, all right?"

"Rest?" I chuckled. "Obi, even if it wasn't one of the last nights I'd reside here which I definitely would not waste on sleeping alone while I could be with you, I don't think I would exactly get the chance to rest. You know, given the fact I just saw my nemesis and have another mighty villain after me. "

"Well, you'll have to try." A blush covered his cheeks almost instantly. He smiled charmingly and then bend down, placing a soft kiss on the top of my head before carefully pushing me into the direction of the bed. "The more rested you are, the harder it will be for him to get into your head."

I tried to protest, but when I felt the grip of sleep clawing at me I knew I wouldn't last. The night before I hadn't exactly slept much, and the whole fight with both Cad Bane and the jedi council left me more wary than ever before. So, with a reluctant sigh, I made my way towards the bed and crept under the covers. I laid there, staring at Obi Wan as he circled around the room, keeping a close eye on all entry points and the buildings across.

He spoke to his colleagues every so often, discussing the events and a so called 'Lord Sidious' with a hushed voice. With his flowing coruscanti accent being the only thing I could hear, I felt my eyes dropping closed and my body sinking into the mattress. It could've been hours that had passed or mere minutes, I wouldn't know. I fell into a dreamless sleep that only seemed to make me more exhausted when I woke.

As my eyes opened, I saw the city's dancing lights casting shadows over Obi's face as he studied something on his datapad, his legs crossed over each other and his hand carefully stroking his beard in thought, as always. As I slipped out of the sleep's grip, I knew there was no way I'd fall right back in. In any case, I didn't want to, not when I saw his soft features across the room.

Without making any sound I stepped out of bed, bare feet touching the cold floor, tiptoeing over to him. He didn't notice me until I was right next to him on the couch, looking at his datapad over his shoulder. "Princess." Obi Wan sighed deeply but with an adoring smile decorating his cheeks as he glanced aside. "Get back to bed, darling."

"Not a chance." I kissed his cheek and tried to sneak into his lap through under his arm but he was unrelenting, not giving me even an inch to get closer. "Obi." I whined, pulling at his arm until he obliged with a chuckle, letting me snuggle against his chest and laying his arm around my shoulders when I had settled. His large hand almost completely covered the small of my back as he traced soothing patterns into the skin. Gods, his hands. I could already feel a twinge in my abdomen by the mere touch of them.

"All right, but I'm finishing this." He spoke with a deep voice, the grin audible in his voice.

I huffed in frustration, but let him continue, nonetheless. Glancing at his datapad I saw pictures of old scriptures, old jedi texts he was skimming through. He seemed to be searching for something but given his frustrated sighs as the minutes passed he wasn't getting anywhere. I watched the paintings as he scrolled through them until he landed on one that depicted 3 different figures I recognized all too well.

"Hey, that's Odin." My voice was heavy with sleep as I pointed at the middle one, an old man with a long grey beard and grey robes. "Why are you looking at Valerian gods?"

"Odin?" Obi Wan stilled as he glanced down at me. "You recognize them?"

"Yes, of course. They are called the Aesir." I looked at his eyes momentarily before dropping my gaze back to his datapad. "That's Odin, the all father. Ancestor of my people. And that, that's Freya, -" Pointing at the woman with long green hair I continued. "I believe she was the ancestor of the Timeturners. And the other one is Loki, Arthas's ancestor. We had Thor, Aidan's ancestor too, and others like Helya and Tyr. These three were the only ones who survived the first war but they disappeared without a trace after."

I frowned as I sat up slightly. "How come you know of them?"

"Because I've met them. But, I knew them as the Father, the Son and the Daughter." Obi Wan commented dryly, making me turn towards him fully. "It's a long story. But these, these are from older texts, almost a thousand years ago." Something seemed to click in his head. "So that's why you all have such a strong connection to the force." He mumbled thoughtfully. "Are all Valerian's their descendants?"

"No." I frowned, wondering where he was going with this. "Only the Vanir, the four royal families. The only ones who are left are Aidan, Arthas and me."

"Mmh." He merely mumbled in response, scrolling further through the texts. Obi Wan didn't even spare me another glance as he continued, completely emerged in his train of thought. I let out another sigh, draped my leg over his lap and settled in the crook of his neck, sadly earning no reaction from him.

"Obi." Whining, my hands grasped his light brown tunic tightly.

"I know, darling." He spoke softly. "But this is important. Just give me another few hours."

"Hours?" I sighed dramatically, laying my forehead on his shoulder. "I don't want to wait for another few hours." Only a chuckle followed as a response and soon his eyes were focused on the datapad again, even as I clung onto his body and he had to look over my shoulder to even see the device.

But, I wasn't giving up so easily. Knowing our minds were still connected and that that connection had only grown stronger over the last few days, I let my mind be flooded with images of us, how I craved to touch him, how occupied my mind had been with him the entire day. Then, I focused on that need, and let it fill my entire head.

Obi Wan flinched noticeably, breath hitching in his throat and his muscles suddenly tensing. "Lyanna." He spoke warningly after a few moments when he had collected his wits, his voice tense.

"Yes, master Kenobi?" I smiled against his neck before placing a few soft kisses there, wrapping my legs tighter around his waist.

"Your thoughts are very... loud."

"Oh, are they?" I let them get even more laden with want. As I pressed myself closer against him, I could feel his heart hammering against my fingers and the bulge in his pants pressing against me. Grinning, I knew I had accomplished exactly what I wanted.

When a particular image of him pressing me against the wall flooded my mind Obi Wan cursed loudly and threw his datapad to the side. His hand immediately tangled in my hair on the back of my head to draw me back, his now lust-filled eyes meeting mine soon after. When I heard his voice again, I flinched and my eyes widened. Not because he sounded off, but because I heard him in my head.

Yes, and you'll learn how loud.
