Chapter 16: Absolutes

A new piece I'm still working on ^^

"Stefan, dear, -" From my slumped position on one of the seats, I glanced up at his pacing figure. His eyes were narrowed with worry as he bit his nails, his blond hair hanging before his eyes in loose strands. For his tall and broad built, he still had his way of looking utmost vulnerable.

Master Windu had taken us back from the abandoned rooftop and to the jedi temple after discovering Cad Bane had slipped through their fingers. Much to my frustration, the bounty hunter left us no clue as to who was paying him to take me, or where he would've taken me to. We were no closer to finding out what was really happening, and after all that had happened it angered me even more.

Now, that same jedi master watched us from the corner of the room as he waited for his colleagues to arrive. The fact that I had broken the promise I made to the council was something he couldn't forgive. He'd called the others to discuss these events, and to decide on what to do next.

"can you sit down? You're making me nervous." I sighed and reached out for his hand. The commander only let out a loud huff, plumbing down in the seat next to me and then giving me a tired glance.

"I'm sorry, my queen. I just feel so... helpless." He hid his head in his hands. "I promised Aidan I'd protect you. This should never have happened, not on my watch."

"It's not your fault, Stefan." The moment I'd tried to comfort him, the door to the chamber opened. I glanced up hopefully and soon my eyes met Obi's as he entered with some of the other jedi masters. I spotted both master Yoda and master Plo-Koon too, but the other members of the jedi council were nowhere to be found. They walked in their usual, reserved manner that did nothing to ease the tension in my muscles.

"Queen Fireheart." Plo-Koon bowed slightly before me, making the nerves in my stomach diminish for the tiniest bit. "We heard what happened. Are you all right?"

I was slightly taken aback for a moment, expecting them to immediately attack me after what I'd pulled. In a way, I was angry at myself for what I had done. In a moment of pure anger, I'd lashed out, and did exactly what they feared I would do when that happened.

My eyes followed them as they calmy took a seat. "Ye-yes, I'm fine, master." I felt Windu's stern gaze on the side of my head but tried to pay him no mind. I'd much rather take my chances with the new arrivals.

My gaze stuck to Obi's as he examined me, trying to see if I was hurt. I felt his force signature nudge mine, warm and welcoming, reaching out to make sure I was all right before he turned away. "The assailant, he escaped?" Obi Wan asked after letting out a deep breath, glancing at master Windu.

"I'm afraid so."

"Only because you kept me from capturing him." I mumbled under my breath. Sadly, it was loud enough for the others to hear. Feeling all their gazes on me, I sat upright and coughed awkwardly. "I had him before, well..." Turning towards Mace I shot him a glare, remembering how he had basically thrown me against a wall.

"You were using forbidden magic." Windu commented. "I had no choice but to stop you."

I scoffed, glaring at him. "I was using it in self-defence." The other masters stayed silent, glancing at me. "Senator Amidala's servant was shot right before my eyes. Had I not intervened, I'm sure he would've continued shooting the others."

"What she's meaning to say is; -" Stefan stood up, his defensive side soon showing as his hand grasped around the handle of his sword. "she got out of there alive because she was protecting herself. Where were you when this happened?!" He pointed at Windu furiously. "You were assigned to protect her!"

"Let's try to stay calm, -" Plo Koon tried to dampen the heat but was quickly interrupted again.

"The queen was never supposed to leave Senator Amidala's premises in the first place." Windu countered dryly, crossing his arms before his chest. "The only reason she almost got captured was because she put herself at risk."

"Excuse me?" Following Stefan, I stood up on my feet and glared his way. "You wanted me to wait for the other senators to get shot, too?!"

The other masters glanced at each other in bewilderment, not knowing what to say as the conversation got even more heated. "We had the situation under the control." Windu said, still as calm as ever as he watched us. "You put the entire population of Coruscant at risk by going after him and using your so called seidr, -"

"The entire population?!" I pushed Stefan behind me as the anger took control of my actions. I knew I'd let the anger take control, but the moment other lives were at risk was the exact moment I would cease all actions. "For the love of Freya, Windu, get your damned head out of your ass!"

"Lyanna!" Obi Wan interjected quickly, watching me with a bewildered look.

"No, Obi Wan, I am DONE!" As I yelled, everyone suddenly silenced and watched me as I seethed. They didn't even dare to move a muscle. When I had somewhat collected my breath, I turned towards Windu and pointed at him accusingly. It felt like the frustration that had built up the last few days finally had the chance to go out and let it out I did.

"Do you even realize that by keeping me here, degrading me to a mere science project you do not only insult me, the queen of Valeria, but the entire population of my planet as well?!" I paused for a moment, watching as something flickered through their eyes, be it realization or just disbelief.

"We've handled these powers for far longer than you jedi exist and never, NEVER has there been any doubt concerning our alignment or our capabilities to use the seidr. That until you, you got scared because your feeble brains cannot comprehend the true extend of the force's capabilities and decided that we are the evil ones!" Tears welled up in my eyes. "I mean, I came here to help you, to show you what I know about the force, to teach you about the wonders of its powers as I know it but all I've known since I've been here is suspicion and accusation."

Obi Wan's eyes flickered down as his fingers played with his beard, Yoda watched me curiously and Plo Koon's eyes widened with sympathy. Only Windu kept me locked in his stare. It seemed that with anything I did, I only further confirmed his suspicions.

"You know what, this is ridiculous. I will not let you insult me or my people any longer. I'll give you two days, two days to finalize your research and then I'm GONE." I felt Stefan straightening up beside me.

"And if you even dare to stop me or hold me against my will, you'll risk an all-out war with my people. Is that what you want?" I glared between them all, skipping Obi's gaze. Yoda straightened up, softly thumping his staff on the ground to get everyone's attention.

"Never our intentions, this was." He spoke truthfully. "Escalated, the situation has."

"I understand your anger, your majesty." Plo broke the tense silence that followed. "We were trying to help you, but evidently we've been doing it the wrong way. I think that whether or not you wish to continue is up to you."

"I don't think it's that simple." Windu raised his hand to gather everyone's attention. "As master Kenobi has stated before, the moment the queen returned from the dead she brought something else with her, something that is growing stronger still. Generally speaking, that doesn't mean much good." Obi Wan's eyes widened and he tried to speak up, but Windu continued before he could. "We can't risk having another sith lord walking around in our midst. Not while we still have a chance to unravel the mystery of her return, before it takes over."

"I will not become, -"

"Master Windu." Obi Wan glanced at me assuredly, raising his hand to try and stop me from continuing. The words got stuck in my throat, my brows knotting together, fearing that he would once again speak against me but when he did speak the creases lessened. "As I'm sure you've read in my report, the queen would never let it get that far." He sounded gentle, but there was a hint of defensiveness hidden under his voice that spiked my attention.

Both me and Stefan relaxed slightly, letting out a deep breath. "While I am of an opinion that she would benefit from more training here, with us, -" He looked my way with a smile, our eyes connecting, making my stomach flutter. "I am more than confident that she can fight her own battles, and thus that we can't force her to stay here. I would, however, like to find out who is behind the attacks first before we send you away, your majesty. For my own assurance."

His gaze grew worried, and he almost begged me with his eyes to stay. He looked so soft, with the gentle light playing on his features and a single strand of auburn hair hanging before his blue orbs.

From the corner of my vision, I saw both Yoda and Plo Koon nod in agreement, but Master Windu was yet to be convinced. "Her father became a sith lord directly after the same happened to him. Do we really want to risk her becoming the same?" He protested. "Without our supervision things can get out of hand."

"I am not my father."

"Give her the benefit of the doubt, we must." Yoda decided. "Proven us wrong before, she has."

"The power she wields is something we have never known before and could destroy us. What happens when either count Dooku or the unknown sith lord find her?"

It was like I wasn't even there. The jedi masters were fighting their own battles and left me out of it.

"Then we better make sure she stays on our side. Forcing her to stay here undoubtedly won't do the trick." Obi Wan only give him a slight glance before standing up. He extended his arm towards me, holding it out for me to take. "Your majesty." He beckoned for me to take it. He looked tired, bags under his eyes and his hair a mess.

I glanced at Master Yoda and Plo Koon, awaiting their verdict before taking the hand I was so anxious to take. Yoda only nodded at me in encouragement but Plo seemed to be deep in thought. "Would you be willing to stay with us for a couple more days, your majesty?" His eyes seemed anxious when he glanced at me.

"Of course, master." I felt the worry radiating off him. In a way, I understood their fear. I'd experienced the same before, for I had doubted myself numerous times. If even I couldn't always trust in myself, I couldn't blame them for hesitating too.

Plo motioned towards Obi's outstretched hand. "I see I'm alone in my opinion." Mace Windu sighed as he leaned forwards. "I will agree with you for the time being. If the queen lives up to your expectations in the coming few days, that is."

"She will." Obi Wan spoke clearly, his eyes still locked with me. "I will take her back to her quarters and watch over her for tonight." Finally, I moved to take his hand, feeling it wrap firmly around mine within no time. He turned towards the door, laying my hand on his arm to guide me towards the elevator. Stefan followed silently in our footsteps, walking inside the elevator, and hiding in the corner.

"The amount of trust you put in the queen is remarkable, master Kenobi." Mace's voice froze us right in our tracks. I could feel Obi's muscles tensing beneath the cloth of his tunic, his breath hitching in his throat. "I only hope that that trust isn't misplaced."

His thoughts raced as he turned us around, his finger reaching for the button to close the elevator as his frown deepened. Fear blossomed at the bottom of my stomach, fear that the masters before us found out about what was happening between us. There was no doubt in my mind that Obi Wan feared the same.

Could they feel our emotions? Did they feel what happened last night, could they feel the bond that still bound our souls together as one?

Obi Wan's chuckle shook me from my thoughts, his eyes lightened as he glanced and Windu. "I doubted her before, Master Windu. She proved me wrong multiple times. I wouldn't dare repeat that mistake again." He straightened up, a polite smile playing around his lips. If it weren't for the tensed muscles I could still feel beneath my fingers, I'd have thought it was genuine. "Masters." He nodded at them before pushing the button, closing the doors of the elevator before us.

When the metal slid shut before us, Obi Wan let out an audible deep breath, his arms relaxing as he placed one against the metal. Leaning forward, he ran his other hand through his hair. I could feel the worry that suddenly played feverously around him and knew that he had been hiding it this entire time.

"Obi?" Placing my hand on his shoulder, I tried to make him look at me.

It took him a while to collect himself. When he did, he straightened up again and turned towards me. He'd wiped off the emotions that were previously evident in his features. "Are you all right, princess?" Obi laid his hand on the side of my face, directing it upwards so I'd look at him.

"I'm fine, Obi. Bane didn't get far before I blasted him away." Smiling softly, I leaned into the palm of hand. Yet, my brows drew upward when the worry resided in him, still. "What Windu said last, do you think, -"

"Let me worry about that." He let his hand fall to his sides and turned back to face the doors. Biting his lip, he frowned deeply as an anxious hand again reached up to stroke his beard.

"Obi, we're in this together." I tried to reach him, laying my hand on his upper arm and gently trying to pull him back towards me. "Talk to me." All he did was glance down at me again, until his eyes wandered down over my whole body seconds later.

"May I say, your dress looks exceptionally... exotic today." A genuine smirk instantly covered his face as his eyes wandered over the scarred sleeves that were almost entirely burnt away, the bottom halves of the dress that were torn off and covered in dirt and the hole in the back that could only have been caused by my wings.

"By the gods." I jumped slightly when I noticed my own dishevelled look, a flaming blush immediately covering my cheeks as I tried to hold together the loose pieces. "I didn't even notice it was this bad. And then to think I just attended that meeting dressed in this, I, -"

"Here." Obi Wan chuckled, taking off his dark brown cloak and wrapping it around my shoulders, making me shut off my nervous mumbling the moment I looked up into his eyes. He noticed my stare, a true smile covering his lips before he slowly bent down and placed a soft kiss on the top of my head. "I'm glad you're all right, princess."

"So am I." I watched him as he pulled back again, the doors sliding open at our side and revealing the lower floor of the jedi temple.

"Let's not cheer too soon." Stefan coughed awkwardly, making us turn to him as he frowned deeply. "We've still got a few more days to go."

Hiiiyaa my darlings
