Prompt- Gaby is kidnapped and they realise their feelings for Spencer

Warning- language and well, it's Criminal Minds, so expect some gore and violence.

———————————
As a consultant for the BAU, I tend to come in and help on extremely tough cases that need an extra helping hand. I'm not officially a member of the team, as I have not been offered a spot, however I am often told by Prentiss and Jereau  that I'm an official member to them.

Due to the nearly constant need for me to help with the cases, I've grown close to the team. They're like a family to me.

There is, however, one member in particular whom I tend to navigate toward more so than the others; Spencer Reid. JJ has often told me of her doubt toward our friendship, due to Spencer and I's proximity when talking to each other and other details she observes. I tend to ignore her.

Presently, we have a case that's located locally, so we are in the BAU meeting room. Garcia has introduced the case, stating "the unsub has been kidnapping girls with a predilection toward theatre."

I clench my jaw, knowing that I could potentially be a victim due to my interest in theatre. I'll have to be careful.

"So, what we know about the case so far: the unsub has been picking up females with an interest in theatre. He kidnaps them, keeps them at an unknown location, and kills them. He uses the same kill method each time: lacerations to the thighs, lacerations to the wrists, and poisoning," Penelope informs.

"Perhaps it's sexual," Reid says, "He could have had a woman in his life with interest in theatre whom he loved, and they may have denied him sex or they sexually abused him, which caused a resentment and a need for sexual control."

"That's probable," Emily says.

"Too, he could be building up to kill the woman, if he hasn't done so already," I add.

They hum in acknowledgement.

Spencer and I throw around theories and conspiracies surrounding the case in order to come up with a profile. We do this quite often, typically ending the night with a quick run through the case file, applying sticky notes to the inside of the Manila folder with our theories.

Eventually, the time comes for me to go back to my own flat. I give Spencer a hug, and I exit the flat with a smile. I slowly head to my car, unlocking it with the clicker.

I hear footsteps behind me, but before I can turn around, I feel a slight pinch in my neck, and the world goes black.

I look up from my book, seeing the headlights of Gaby's car as she pulls away. For some reason, I feel a weird sensation in my gut, almost as if something is wrong. That's when it hits me; Gaby has always had a passion for the theatre.

"Shit," I say, dialling a number on my phone. The person picks up on the first ring.

"Hey, Spence what do you need?" JJ asks, probably wondering why I was calling her at this time.

"Gaby's been kidnapped."

When I come to, I groggily open my eyes. It's dark. I hear the slight drip of water falling into puddles; the slight trickle of water slowly streaming down the dank walls can be heard as well.

I raise my hand up, noticing my ability to move; i'm unrestrained. Good. Then I can— never mind. My torso and legs are restrained. Shit.

Still groggy from the morphine—or at least what I assume was morphine— I take in my surroundings. I'm in a very familiar place. I'm not entirely sure why it seems familiar. Have I been here before?

I shake my head to clear my thoughts. I'm in somebody's basement tied to a—what am I tied to? Oh, a chair—tied to a chair.

I hear the creak of a door, a small cough, and the sound of creaky footsteps on—is it wooden? Yes, it is—wooden stairs. My captor begins to whistle a familiar tune—Beethoven, perhaps? Ah yes, it is Beethoven! The things I learn by hanging around Spencer.

Once my captor finishes coming down the stairs, they stop. I watch as my captor stands in the shadows just in front of the stairs.

Those shoes look familiar. Oh my God. It's Steven. My ex. And he's going to kill me. Shit.

He steps out of the shadows and walks into the dim light coming from a small window. He stops in front of me, smirking evilly.

"Hello, gorgeous."

My head is spinning. I should have offered for her to stay with me! If I had thought of it, Gaby would not be in this predicament! And they call me a genius.

I rush into the BAU, heading directly into the conference room. Immediately, I spot the rest of the team.

"While you were on your way, we received a call from an unknown number," Garcia says, frantically clicking a button so the recording starts.

The recording of the call starts with a deep breath. Then, evil chuckling can be heard. It's distorted by a voice changer.

"I have the girl. My girl now. I know you wanted her, Spencer Reid, but she's mine. You shouldn't have gotten in my way. Now you're going to suffer."

Silence.

Then, a scream.

Gaby's scream.

The unsub chuckles heavily, then stops.

"If you want the pretty bird, here's where we are..." He gives their location, but I pay no mind to it. I'm more focused on Garcia's next sentence.

"That's where her ex lives."

——————

The team and I are silent as we drive to Gaby's location. My heart pounds. I can feel beads of sweat rolling down my face. My hands shake.

What if she's already dead when we arrive? No, Spencer. You mustn't think of this.

I feel numb as I step out of the vehicle and onto solid ground.

The door of the house bursts open, Gaby and the unsub walking out. Gaby has a knife to her back. She is bleeding profusely from a stab wound to her side. She has tear tracts down her cheeks. Still, she sobs; she is absolutely terrified.

Carefully, I make my way toward them.

"Hey, Steven, why don't you let her go, okay? She's hurt and you don't want her injuries to grow worse, do you?" I ask. Steven presses the knife into Gaby's back, not yet puncturing the skin.

"No. But if I let her go, you will get her. And I want her," he says.

"But Steven, you hurt her. Do you really think that's how you treat the ones you love?" I ask.

"Yes, I hurt her, but I wanted to make things right with her. And then you came in. I was going to give her a grand declaration of my love, until you stole her!" He says. He's panting heavily, the knife slightly puncturing Gaby's skin. She bites her lip from the pain.

"Steven, please let me go. You need to move on," Gaby says softly, ignoring the pain of the knife.

Quickly, Steven pushes the knife into Gaby. Blood starts to pool around the weapon. Gaby faints.

A shot sounds. Steven falls to the ground, the life leaving his body immediately.

Swiftly, I make my way to Gaby's side. With precision, I pull the knife from her and apply pressure to the wound immediately.

I feel my eyes begin to water, but I force the tears back.

"Stay with me," I say softly, applying more pressure to the ruby waterfall flowing from her injury.

I feel numb. Slowly, my brain realises that I've been stabbed, and I'm probably on pain medication.

I inhale sharply, opening my eyes. I blink, seeing blurry figures standing before me. I blink again. One figure speaks to me, taking my hand in theirs. The action sends a tingly feeling throughout my stomach. I know this person to be Spencer.

Once more, I blink. My vision clears, and I see Spencer smiling, tears running down his cheeks.

"I am so glad that you're awake," he says. Blearily, I smile.

"I'm glad to be awake too, Spence."

"Gaby, the incident caused me to have an epiphany." I glance curiously toward him. I reach his face with a hand and wipe the tears from his cheeks with my thumb. Spencer takes my hand in his, giving me a look that burns with the desire to tell me something, although he seems to be unable to word his thought properly.

"I—well I—I have feelings for you," Spencer says softly. I smile gently.

"I have feelings for you as well," I say.

Spencer gives the most beautiful grin.

"When you get out of the hospital," he clears his throat, "would you possibly be interested in going on a—a date with me?"

Spencer is too adorable to deny. Besides, why would anyone deny such an attractive little nerd? Of course, I respond with

"Yes. Yes, I would."
