Retreat

---Cross' POV----

"We cant't leave them!" I protested, pulling against Killers grip. I'm actually stronger than him, but having Chara in control always drains me significantly, so I was weakly pulling against him as he dragged me over to the field and towards the river.

"They should be smart and figure out where we've gone." Dust called from up ahead.

"But what if they don't?" I cried, trying to wriggle from the grip Killer had around my arm.

"Tough." Killer growled, yanking me along.

"This is bullshit." I muttered under my breath.

"Chill Cross." Killer said. "We all want to help the others, but there's not enough of us to do anything that could help. We'd just end up getting caught as well. What use would we be then?"

I growled, looking down at the grass at my feet. He had a point, but I felt like we needed to do something to help the others. Seeing as it's technically my fault they got caught in the first place.

Killer seemed to sense what I was thinking and stopped. "Look Cross, this isn't your fault. I know your blaming yourself, but we're all to blame. We should have guessed something like that was going to happen. This isn't all on you."

I didn't respond, scuffing the grass with my feet.

Killer sighed dramatically and let go of my wrist, walking over to Dust who was currently stood at the edge of the river looking out over to the forest that we had escaped to last time.

"I think our safest option is to make our way back to Night's mansion." Dust said, turning to face the two of us.

I eyes the small blue skeleton that he held in his arms, recognising him as the skeleton officer that was with the guys when I turned up.

He looked terrified and confused by everything that was happening.

Dust growled and turned around, gripping Killer's wrist and inspecting the magic restraint on it.

"Hey Cross..." He said quietly. "Do you think you'd be able to cut this off?"

I shrugged and Killer immediately pulled his hand free of Dusts grip. "Are you crazy?" He hissed. "He could cut my hand off!"

I snickered at his reaction. "Whats one less hand gonna do?" I joked, summoning one of my smaller knives.

"No! Guys I'm serious!" Killer cried, scrambling backwards, away from us, and towards...

"Killer wait your going to--" Dusts cry was cut off by a yelp, followed by a splash. "Fall in the river...." He finished, shaking his head in amusement.

I giggled as Killer surfaced, spluttering and gasping in air. "I-Its so c-cold!" He stuttered, starting to swim back over to us.

"Killer stop!" Dust called. "Just swim over to the other side. That solves the problem of you not being able to teleport."

Killer grumbled something that I couldn't quite decipher before accidentally swallowing some water, then choking it back up. He swore under his breath, then turned in the water, doing a steady breaststroke to get to the other side.

Blue was giggling, covering his mouth with his hands. Dust and I were also trying to hold back our laughs as killer reached the river bank and attempted to pull himself out.

"Should we help him?" I asked.

Dust looked over at me, a wicked grin on his face. "Nah, I think he's got this covered by himself."

It took two attempts for Killer to finally haul himself out of the water where he then collapsed onto the dry grass, looking up at the sky. The sky was a light pink, the sun had started to rise, lighting up the dew that had settled on the grass.

Dust let out one last laugh before inhaling deeply and teleporting next to Killer, making sure that Blue was still with him. I composed myself as well before joining him next to his starfished body.

"You good there?" I joked.

Killer didn't respond but held up a hand which Dust quickly took hold of, pulling him up to his feet.

"Lets just keep moving." Killer grumbled, pushing past the two of us and walking off in the direction of the forest. Dust and I exchanged grins before quickly walking after him.

---Smol Time Skip----------

"C'mon Cross! We need to keep moving!" Dust called from ahead.

"Give me a minute!" I respond, focusing on the tree in front of me and the knife that was currently dug into it. I dragged the knife across the bark, watching as it left a red line that quickly faded to a dark brown, leaving a mark on the tree.

"CROSS WE'RE LEAVING WITHOUT YOU!" Dust shouted from the trees.

"I SAID GIVE ME A MINUTE!" I yelled.

I pulled my knife from the tree, checking my work. That should do it.

"CROSS!" Dust yelled one last time.

"COMMING!" I shouted as I turned and ran after him and Killer through the trees.

---Error's POV---

Ink had fallen asleep about an hour ago. He was tired from......Earlier.

I however, couldn't find the urge to sleep so I had simply stayed up, with him curled up next to me on the sofa, his head resting on my legs.

I had my eyes shut and I was absentmindedly stroking the top of Inks skull with my thumb. He whined in his sleep and shifted a bit, getting into a more comfortable position before sighing contently and falling still once more.

I smiled and rested my hand on his skull, looking at the calm expression on his sleeping face.

Everything was so peaceful at night, everything was sleeping and nothing was there to distract you.

Then as if I'd just jinxed myself, a loud ringing noise rang out causing me to jump and Ink to sit up suddenly, now fully awake.

He groaned reaching over for his phone that was currently laying discarded on the coffee table by his side.

He picked it up and put a finger to his 'lips' telling me to be quiet as he answered the phone.

"Umm, hello?" He yawned, stretching his arms as he balanced his phone against his shoulder.

I stood up, and walked over to the window, not feeling the need to listen into Inks conversation. It was dark outside, the only sources of light being the lamp posts and street lights. But it will be getting light soon seeing as its nearly dawn.

I could hear Ink talking in the background. Who would be calling him at this time of night?

I heard him stand up and start pacing in the living room, his voice seeming more frantic. Being the curious being I am, I walked closer to the living room, trying to listen into the conversation. (I do this all the time XD)

Inks voice became clearer and I waited expectantly to hear what was going on. "Already? How's that even possible? You literally just caught them!" Inks voice said, clearly panicked and distressed.

"A mass brake out, are you serious?" He stopped talking and I could faintly hear the sound of the person on the other line talking frantically back to Ink.

I glanced over at the window as something flashed past. I frowned and stepped away from the living room, walking over to the window. Nothing.

Thats strange. I could have sworn I'd seen something...

There!

Someone was crouched at the other side of the road, hiding behind a car. They seemed to be checking for people. But its so late, why would they be making sure no one saw them.

Thats when someone else stepped out from behind a bush, I leaned closer to the window, trying to see who on earth these people could be.

Thats when one of them spotted me.

I locked eyes with the one crouched by the car and my mismatched eyes met his violet ones. For some reason they looked familiar.

They signalled to the person behind them and stood up, quickly looking left and right before walking purposely across the road towards the house.

At that moment Ink walked in to see what I was doing, he was still on the phone when he came next to me but quickly stopped walking when he noticed the figure walking across the road towards us.

"I'm going to have to call you back." Ink said, quickly ending the call and looking at me. "Who's that?" He hissed.

"I don't know." I muttered. "But they seem to know me."

Ink  gripped the sleeve of my jacket as the figure stepped onto the pavement, literally a few metres in front of us. A sheet of glass being the only thing in between us.

The figure turned and waved over at the person at the other side of the road. They stepped out from behind a car and seemed to call something. Then before we knew it a bunch of other people had stepped out from the darkness and were making their way across the road.

Thats when it hit me.

I pushed Ink to the side and rushed to the door, unlocking it and scrambled outside to the figures. "Guys?!?!" I choked.

"Nice to see you too Error." One of them growled, I didn't recognise him, he was a bit smaller than me and was wearing a purple tunic with a little golden crown thing on his head. Kinda like that little yellow officer that was often with Ink.

I looked questioningly at him, tilting my head to the side as I tried to think of why his attitude reminded me of someone.

"Error!" Someone called. I turned to see who it was and nearly choked.

"FRESH?"

The colourful skeleton stepped into view still looking as annoying as ever. "You bet broski!"

I laughed, walking up to him and giving him  high five. "Its been so long I'd started to forget what you looked like." I joked.

"Heh like that would happen." He responded.

"How'd you get out?"

Fresh sighed, pointing over at the skeleton that I had been trying to remember earlier. He was currently looking down the road seeming rather worried about something.

"Who is that?" I asked quietly.

Fresh laughed. "You wouldn't believe me if I told you bro."

I waited for an answer.

"Okay, okay, I'll tell you." Fresh giggled. "Its someone who you normally can't even look at without feeling uncomfortable. Someone who is normally covered in black goop."

I literally choked on air. "Thats Nightmare?!?!" I whisper shouted.

Fresh only nodded in response, loving the expression on my face.

Well then...this was certainly something I wasn't expecting.
