Chapter 8
As I lay my head down on my pillow, I begin to stare out my window from my laying position. What am I supposed to do now? Naruto doesn't deserve this. That Uchiha bastard doesn't undertand that this is my job. How am I supposed to stop the investigation?
My thoughts begin drifting away, as my eye lids start to become heavy.
~*~*~*~*~*~
I stare ahead of me, as my gun is raised at the man. I know this isn't real, it's all a dream. I've dreamt this nightmare many times, but it has always gotten to me. Everything seems so vivid.
I gasp, my heart rate fastens, and sweat trickles down my face. It's different this time.
"I warned you." The man said.
"S-Sakura. . ." The familiar voice begged.
Instead of the usual older man I always see in this dream, it's a younger, attractive, and built man. The same man that has been haunting me in reality. And this time the usual familiar little girl is my co-worker, whom I have become best friends with.
The gun in my hands starts shaking from my fear of losing him, "Please, Sasuke. Don't do this."
The Katana Sasuke's holding pricks Naruto's neck, and the blood becomes noticable.
"You disobeyed me." The raven's face is emotionless.
I bite my bottom lip, but yell, "Please, I'm begging you! Let him go! Kill me! He doesn't deserve this!"
Then comes that smirk. That same smirk that gets planted on his gorgeous face each and everytime I say something to him. That arrogant, egotystical smirk.
"Hn." He throws Naruto to the ground, and stares at me.
"Everything I'm doing has a purpose." His voice echos.
~*~*~*~*~*~
My eye lids open automatically. I sit up from my bed, and look at my clock. It's only three in the morning. Immedietly, I get a piercing feeling in the pit of my stomach that screams success.
"I finally understand now." My voice announces softly.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Dawn is still an hour away from arriving. As I walk through the empty streets. I try looking in every corner for an alley. Once I find one, I walk through it, and stand in the middle of the narrow space that surrounds me. I don't do anything, just stand, until I can hear a small sound coming from above.
I sigh, "I know you're here."
Nothing happens.
"I need to talk to you."
I turn towards the entrance I came from, and try to see if he might've followed me from behind.
"Then talk." A deep, velvet voice demands from behind me.
I spin around quickly, my heart racing. There he is, standing in front of me. His dark eyes bore into mine, waiting for me to speak. I need to keep my composure. I don't understand why he's affecting me like this.
"I-I understand what that note meant." I say.
He crosses his arms, and leans his shoulder against a brick wall and says, "Do you now?"
His voice sounds so confident. Kind of like he thinks I'm stupid and haven't figured it out yet.
"You won't kill Naruto." My voice grows serious.
The Uchiha scoffs at me, "How are you so sure, Detective Haruno?" Sasuke's voice slurs mockingly.
I cross my arms like he has his and say, "From the evidence we've collected, you only kill males. Four of your victims have a criminal record of assults. Mostly sexual assults. And from what I can tell, you like to keep yourself hidden. Since we live in such a big city, it's easy for you, but only because of fire escapes. This means you tend to see people more easily. Although you aren't following them, you see things happen that you just can't walk away from. Harrasments, right? Yeah, I get it now. You kill guys you see harrassing women and vulnerable people."
I try to watch his reaction, and his arms unfold. His eyes close, and he begins clapping slowly in a taunting manner. While doing so, he walks towards me.
"So you've figured it out." He replies, as he gets closer.
I stay put, and squint my eyes at him. Sasuke stops in front of me, and says, "So, what do you think now?"
"What?"
"Am I a bad person to you?" He tilts his head.
"Of course." I reply back.
"Really? Because it seems like I'm doing your job better than you."
I scoff, "You think killing people automatically makes you a superstar detective?!"
He glares at me, "No, it just means I put more people to justice."
"You're insane! Killing is not justice!" I yell.
"Those men deserved it."
"Oh really?" I pull down my jacket sleeve, "Did I deserve this?" I make the bruises on my wrist he gave me last night visible to him.
I notice his face becomes emotionless, and he just stares at my wrist.
"So, is this justice to you?"
"I guess I was wrong. . ." He says while closing his eyes in irritation, "You aren't as tough as I thought you were, if you can't handle a couple bruises.
Clouded by anger, I lifted my hand, and slapped him on the cheek. . . Hard. His head slightly whipped to the side.
"Go to hell." I hiss.
Sasuke opens his eyes, and places his hand on his cheek, but smirks, "Didn't even hurt."
I grit my teeth, and walk towards the entrance of the alley and say, "Now that I know you won't kill Naruto, I can tell everyone how you're blackmailing me."
"That was your first mistake." I hear him say.
I stop at his words, and turn towards him.
"You do realize you admitted you are going to tell your team, which means I can blackmail you again. Obviously you aren't cautious enough."
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"I won't kill your friend, but I can still hurt him."
I widen my eyes at him, "No you won't."
"Wanna bet?"
"That's a dumb idea, Uchiha."
"Really? I guess that's a challenge."
"N-No. Stop playing games with me." I demand.
He walks away, "I'll know if you tell. And if you do, I'll hurt every single one of them. You included."
His head turns towards me, "Sakura."
~*~*~*~*~*~
"I have a confession to make."
The three of them look at me, curious of what I'm going to say.
"I went to South Avenue on my own. . ."
Kakashi sighs, "You know you aren't supposed to do that."
"Well, I just saved us from an investigation. There was no sign of him." I reply.
Sai begins, "I think we should still do an investigation."
"No, trust me. It'd be a waste of time."
"Are you sure, Sakura?" Naruto asks.
"I'm positive. He's no where near South Avenue."
~*~*~*~*~*~
I stomp in my apartment, a brown paper bag in my arms. I place the bag on the table. And throw my shoulder bag on the floor angrily. Opening one of the cabinets in my kitchen, I grab a small cup, and slam it on the table. After that, I sit down in the chair, and take the glass bottle out of the brown bag.
The sound of the liquid being poured into the glass is heard through out my small apartment. I grab the cup, and place it on my lips, chugging down the liquid. A burning sensation travels down my thoat, and I take the cup off my lips.
My hand grips the sake bottle again, but instead of pouring it in the cup, I drink a large sip from the bottle.
I don't usually drink, but I need a stress reliever. I just lied to my co-workers. I'm ruining everything. Luckily, I have no work tomorrow, since the investigation was cancelled.
I keep taking large sips, and start to feel loopy. I grin at the taste of the sake, and keep drinking more and more. My gaze directs to the opened window ahead of me, and I frown.
"Have a drink, asshole." I say.
I pick up the glass bottle, and throw it towards the window, but it hits the wall and shatters into a hundred pieces. I grit my teeth.
"Show yourself, Sasuke!" I scream.
Nothing happens, and I feel the tears well up in my eyes. I dont hesitate to let them escape, and I begin sobbing.
"You're drunk." I hear a familiar voice say.
Sasuke's POV
She looks up at me, and gets up from her seat. Her figure becomes wobbly, and she grabs the counter for support.
"I hate you." She whispers.
I keep staring at her, and scoff at her vulnerability. She grabs a Sake bottle, and takes a sip.
"You're gonna hurt yourself." I tell her.
She keeps drinking, tears still falling down her face. I walk towards her, and grab the bottle from her.
"G-Give it back. . ." Her voice is drowsy.
"Go to sleep. You're being a nuisance." I glare.
"T-Then l-leave." Sakura tries grabbing the bottle, but I grab it from he and dump the components down the sink.
"No!" She screams, and brings her hands up to slap me.
I grab her arms to stop her, and she just stares at me.
"Why are you doing this to me. . ." Her eye lids begin closing, "I hope. . . You die. . ."
Sakura's head falls on my chest, and I release her arms and lift her up.
"I don't even know why I'm helping you." I mutter, as I carry her towards her room.
"You're just a burden." I place her on her bed.
