Chapter 22
With the white shears slightly opened, an illuminating, yellow glow from the sun's bright rays sneaked its way through the window and into the room. As her eyes were closed, instead of seeing the color black, she could see the color yellow. Slowly, as if hesitating, the pinkette slightly opened her forest, green eyes, blinking to adjust to the change in lighting. Once the slight stinging of the rays were no longer, she scanned the room and immediately stopped at the figure that had its back turned away from her. Her heart rate increased quickly, and she quietly sat up in the bed.
His back was bare, slightly paled, but toned to a gorgeous extent. Sakura noticed he was sitting on a stool, cleaning his deadly katana with a white cloth. With every movement of his arm, she could see his muscles flex, from his broad shoulders and down his back. Oblivious to her awakened state, the Uchiha winced as he could already envision all of the blood that has been left on this sword.
Although in complete opposite thoughts, Sakura felt the heat rise to her cheeks. Just seeing that side of him was absolutely astonishing. She's seen him without a shirt once, but it was so dark, her vision was unclear. And even though this was just his back, she felt so out of place and flustered, Sakura couldn't even handle it. It's foreign to even see a man up close like that. The emerald-eyed detective has never been in a relationship, let alone see a man like this. And not to mention, this was the most attractive man she has ever seen in her entire life. No, scratch that. He was not attractive, but gorgeous.
The sound of his katana sliding into its sheath took Sakura out of her dreary thoughts. Sasuke turned towards her, thinking she was asleep, but immediately realized she had awaken. Sakura's green eyes widened and on instinct, she hid her blush with the covers.
"Ah, you're awake." His deep, velvet voice stated.
There wasn't a response from her, due to her embarrassment. He actually caught her fawning over his features and that irked Sakura to the bone. The Uchiha took short strides towards her, and crouched down in front of the side of the bed, but the pinkette refused to meet his gaze.
He tilted his head, "You're acting strange."
"U-Uhm, do you mind putting a sh-shirt on, please?" Sakura cursed at herself for stuttering.
A slight smirk appeared on his lips as he replied, "Ah, I see now. You're embarrassed."
"No!" She jumped out of bed and stood up confidently, "It's just. . . R-Rude, y'know?!"
As Sasuke stood up, Sakura could now see the front of his shirtless state, and it made her gulp. How? How can a man look this good? It's not like he has as much muscle as a body builder, but Sasuke has enough muscle to suit his figure perfectly. He was toned to perfection. Abs, toned triceps and biceps, he just screams flawless.
The Uchiha crossed his arms across his chest in a playful manner and Sakura reacted by saying, "I need to, uh, use the bathroom!"
Without hesitation, she darted towards the small room, and slammed the door. She leaned against the wall, asking herself why she was acting this way. Sure, she's not used to seeing that type of guy, other than in movies, but she's a detective for godsake! Emotions like these should never budge someone like her.
From near the other side of the door, the pinkette heard him say, "Judging by your actions, I would say you are unfamiliar with seeing a man like this."
Sakura wouldn't respond, so the Uchiha smirked and said, "Sakura, are you a vir-"
The door being swung open, cut him off and he noticed the flare in her eyes, "What kind of question is that?! I mean, why would you ask such a thing?!"
"Hn," he snorted, "So you are."
Her cheeks turned to a bright pink, "Th-That has nothing to do with anything, asshole!"
Sakura pushed past him and opened her closet, taking work clothes out.
"It was just a question," he whispered in her ear from behind, "No need to be so annoying about it."
Letting out a slight sigh, the detective turned towards him, and realized he was directly behind her, causing her heart to nearly pound out of her chest.
"That's just not something you ask a girl," Sakura started, trying her best to avoid eye contact, "What would you do if I asked you the same question?"
Staring emotionlessly at her flustered face, he replied bluntly, "I would answer your question."
Her emerald eyes averted to his face, almost in a surprised manner, "W-Well?"
"No, I'm not. Why are you? Have you ever been in a relationship?" Sasuke asked, as she bit her lip nervously.
"My job hasn't allowed me to have a relationship. There's too many risks. Besides," a soft, day-dreaming smile crossed Sakura's lips, "I've been waiting for the right person."
"Well," his face inched towards hers slowly, "have you found him yet?"
Sakura could feel her breathing deepening and becoming heavy, almost as if all of the oxygen in the room was slowly dissipating. How could she ever answer that type of question? There's no doubt the pinkette has strong feelings towards this criminal, but was she willing to go as far as to say he's the 'right person'. Hell, Sakura didn't even know what they would be categorized as. Dating? A couple? Scratch off the dating part, because that's definitely not an option for someone like him. Being a couple doesn't sound right when it comes to a detective and a criminal. It basically broke the laws of relationships.
Intimacy is frightening to her. The thought of it terrifies Sakura to a dramatic extent. But this question he's asking her. . . Does he want to be that person, the one guy she would give herself to? The pinkette has always thought that intimacy should only be involved in a relationship if the two are in love. And for some odd reason, she was willing to say she could possibly be in love.
Wait, what? Am I really saying this?
The closeness of the Uchiha's face brought Sakura back to reality, and she managed to slip out of the spot in front of him, "I-I have to get ready for work."
With that, she carried her clothes to the bathroom. Sasuke Uchiha was surprised to say the least. In all honesty, he didn't know what he was doing himself. How did this conversation lead to such drastic measures in terms of something so private? He winced at her reaction. Did she not consider this at all?
What the hell am I saying?
You could very well say that this criminal is a magnet for women. He chooses to ignore them at all costs, due to their annoying nature, but of course he's had one-night stands with a few before he was classified as a dangerous murderer. There was never a connection when he was with those women. Even this emotionless block of ice can say Sakura means something to him. He can't bare to imagine her being hurt. The thought worries him to a maximum rate. Why does he have to feel this way towards someone like her? If he wasn't so reckless a while back in the bed and breakfast, everything that happened between the two would be nonexistent. Sasuke wouldn't have felt so confused by this one woman, if it weren't for that day.
Why don't I regret all of this though?
As hard to believe as it may seem, Sasuke trusts her. Despite the fact that she could turn him in at any point in time, he is willing to say she's a trustworthy person. Have his feelings for her really come to this? Would he put his life on the line for her if it comes to that?
"Damn." He uttered softly in realization.

Her finger made a downward motion, as she used the mouse to scroll through pages of the past. Shikamaru suggested that Sakura should search through history of the Uchiha clan. They were a prosperous family through generations, so it gives a little intel on the Uchiha brothers and their past. After reading through a paragraph, her emerald eyes widened at what she found.
"Nara," she exhaled in disbelief, "come look at this."
He rolled with his chair towards her computer, and took a look.
"Apparently," Sakura started, "there is said to be a hidden underground meeting place for the Uchiha. This dates back to several years ago, so newer generations may have been unaware of this."
Yawning, Shikamaru replied, "What are you thinking, Haruno."
"Itachi Uchiha could have known about this underground place. It's secretive, but it says that the head branch of the clan were the only ones who knew where this meeting place is. According to this website, theories of where the place could be, pointed to underneath a house, almost like a basement."
"Well," the Nara leaned back in his chair, "South Avenue is run-down in terms of housing. The only home left standing is the former household of Itachi and Sasuke Uchiha."
"So, what do you suggest we do?"
"It wouldn't hurt to investigate. But only you and I will go. I don't plan to catch them right away. We still have Sasuke to deal with." He replied.
The mention of his name saddened Sakura, but she nodded in agreement.
"So it's settled," the lazy detective began, "We'll head to South Avenue tomorrow."

Sakura was hesitant in entering her apartment. There's no guarantee Sasuke's in there, but their conversation was a bit awkward and she completely blew him off.
Pull yourself together, Sakura. You're going to have to face him some time.
Nodding to herself confidently, the pinkette unlocked the door and entered her apartment. Once she closed the door, she noticed how the Uchiha didn't even look at her. He was too occupied in whatever book he was reading on the couch.
"H-Hey." She gave him a slight wave and set her bag and keys down on the counter.
Sasuke looked towards her and put his book down. She put her hands on the counter, and stared at the cabinets in nervousness.
"I'm sorry about earlier. I didn't mean to act that way." Her eyes closed in frustration at herself.
She could hear him getting up from his sitting position on the couch and he replied, "Don't be sorry. It was my fault."
Turning towards him, Sakura could feel her eyes slightly watering, "No, this is something adults talk about, right?"
"That doesn't matter," the onyx-eyed man towered over her and softly replied, "The topic made you uncomfortable. I don't want you to feel that way around me."
"But," her lip quivered, "I'm like an alien when it comes to relationships. I have zero knowledge of what being with someone is like. Hell, I don't even know what we are."
Sasuke stayed silent, and Sakura wiped the forming tears in her eyes. Walking away from him and into her room, she said, "Maybe I'm not suited to be in a relationship."
Once she was in her room, the pinkette crossed her arms, and stared at the ground. Why is she so vulnerable around him? Just hearing his voice makes her weak. It was obvious to Sakura that he was behind her.
"Don't feel that way," Sasuke said, grabbing her arms gently, and turning her to look at him, "It's just something you're not used to."
Shaking her head, Sakura said, "It's just- even considering the circumstances, you make me feel so. . . different. It's as if I'm willing to lose touch with the world, because I want to be around you, but it's the wrong thing to do. It's so difficult!" She exclaimed, almost crying.
She didn't care anymore. Her emotions were taking over her, and she can't go back. Sasuke was going to hear this from her sometime, and now is that time.
Putting a hand on her shoulder, Sasuke asked, "Do you regret meeting me?"
Answering honestly, she said, "I should, but I don't."
Right then and there, the pinkette could have sworn she saw a small smile appear on his lips. But she couldn't get a longer look, due to his hand being placed on the back of her head, pulling her close, and the contact of his lips on hers. This feeling was something Sakura could never get tired of. All she wanted, was to stay like this forever. Here is this criminal who probably hated her guts in the beginning, but is now here, showing her more emotion than he's probably ever revealed. That single thought made her feel special, and she wouldn't trade it for the world.
Placing her hands on the back of his neck to deepen the kiss, Sakura finally understood her true feelings for this man. For the first time in her life, the pinkette felt a strong connection to someone. This connection was different though. It was a feeling that made her unexplainably happy.
Needing oxygen to fill their lungs, the two reluctantly pulled away. Drawing heavy breaths, Sasuke placed his forehead on hers and she said with hesitation, "If we do this, then-"
His voice held a soft tone when he cut Sakura off, "Only if you're willing to."
Not knowing what to say, the emerald-eyed woman nodded. Sasuke walked away from the pinkette, and closed the door, leaving just the two enclosed in her room.
Is this really going to happen?
Not taking his eyes off the closed door and with a staring Sakura behind him, he quietly said, "Okay."
