Chapter 17

The door opened slightly, and the emerald-eyed girl peeked out, scanning the room for a certain Uchiha. When she felt the coast was clear, she fully opened her bedroom door. Trying to keep her heels from being too loud, she approached the door, and put her hand on the door handle.

"Leaving?" A deep voice asked.

She closed her eyes in defeat, and turned towards him, "Actually, I am."

His arms were folded across his chest, and his black hoody was off, so his black t-shirt was revealed. Just by crossing his arms, Sakura could tell how much muscle he has.

When she looked at his face, she saw him slightly scan her figure, which caused her to form a tint of red on her cheeks. Sakura was wearing a three-finger strapped velvet dress, a black belt bel around her waist, and a layer of lace on the bottom half of the dress. She also had on black two-inch heels that had a strap attached to it that wrapped around her ankle. Her short hair was placed in a low side bun, with her bangs falling freely on her forehead.

After a few moments of silence, Sasuke replied, "Be safe."

Sakura nodded, and gave him a small smile. It made her feel somewhat special that he actually cared for her well-being.

~*~*~*~*~*~

"I swear, this guy ran so fast, it would take the Flash to get him. But in the end, I was the one who tackled him, and put on the handcuffs." The Inuzuka man stated proudly, after taking a long drink of sake.

The pinkette chuckled, "Impressive."

The two were currently in a local bar, where the required attire is somewhat formal. They were seated at the bar, where a couple of other people were seated near them.

"Waiter," Kiba started, "I'll take another sake, and one for this pretty one as well." He pointed towards Sakura, and winked at her.

"Oh no, I don't drink very often." She said quickly.

The waiter gave a confused look, and Kiba said, "Give her one nonetheless." The waiter nodded, and did what he was told.

"I probably won't drink it." She chuckled sheepishly.

The professional police officer snickered, "C'mon Sakura! One drink won't hurt you."

She sighed, "I guess you're right. Only one."

"See!" He punched her arm playfully, "Have some fun for once!"

The pinkette giggled awkwardly, and the waiter placed the drink in front of her. She picked it up, and put the rim of the glass between her lips, and took a small drink. Memories of the night she overdid it came flooding back to her, but she pushed the thought aside.

Kiba smiled at her, "It's good to have a little fun every now and then, considering your job."

Sakura nodded, as she took another small sip.

"By the way, how's the Uchiha case going anyway?"

The Haruno stopped mid-drink, and frowned. She honestly did not want to be reminded of how much of a traitor she is to her fellow detectives and unit. True, she doesn't believe that what Sasuke is doing is completely wrong, but she understands the consequences of hiding a professional criminal.

"It's slow. No sign of him anywhere."

"It's all right," Kiba started, taking a big gulp of his alcoholic beverage, "Once you guys find the bastard, I'll be a part of the back-up, and I'll take his ass down."

Sakura smirked, "Don't get too cocky. He's a professional."

"Tsk, I could take him. He's got nothing to him!"

The pinkette frowned, "Have you seen him in person?"

The Inuzuka sighed, "No, but I know you have. What's he like?"

"He's tall and obviously toned."

Kiba snickered, "I'm toned too, y'know."

Sakura grinned, "I didn't think any less of you."

For the next two hours, Sakura eyed how much Kiba was drinking. . . Which was a lot. Throughout the date, Kiba's actions were beginning to become silly and somewhat sexual. He began complimenting her continuously on different proportions of her body, but the emerald-eyed girl disregarded them, knowing he was intoxicated.

Once they left the bar, Kiba's steps were a bit scattered. Sakura walked to the bar earlier, because she lived fairly close.

"Kiba, you're not driving, right?" She asked cautiously.

"Pff," He started, "No, I jog here like a champ. Why?"

"Well. . . You're drunk."

He gave her a confused expression, "I'm not drunk, I'm just tips-" Mid-sentence, Kiba tripped on nothing, and fell.

Sakura immediately ran to his side, and helped him up, while slinging his arm across her shoulders, and saying, "I'll walk you home."

It's nearly midnight, so there weren't many people on the streets. Kiba told Sakura where to go, and they entered a norrow, but short ally way, and Kiba told her to stop.

"You okay?" She asked.

He looked around, "I think someone's following us."

The pinkette furrowed her eyebrows, and opened her purse for her gun. When she almost touched it, the Inuzuka grabbed her wrist, and she jerked her head up at him. He put his hand on her cheek, and sheshot him a questioning glare.

"What are you-"

"You look sexy tonight, Sakura." Kiba slurred.

She shook her head, "There's no time for that. You said someone was following us."

He rolled his eyes at her remark, "I was joking."

"Wait, wha-"

Sakura was cut off, when Kiba bent down, and lightly kissed her on the lips. She was shocked, and as a result, she slapped him across the face. He put his hand on his cheek, his expression held confusion mixed with hurt.

"I'm sorry," Sakura started, "I just. . . I can't."

"Why not? What's stopping you?" Kiba asked, his tone becoming higher with each word.

The pinkette sighed, "It's. . . Complicated."

"I don't believe this." He shook his head in irritation, "Y'know what, Sakura? I'll walk home myself."

She widened her eyes, "But-"

"Go home." He snapped.

All the pink-headed woman could do was watch his figure walk away. In a weird way, she understands why Kiba was so upset at her. She has trouble letting people in, and she just denied him. But there was also another reason for her reaction to his touch.

The Uchiha never left her mind the whole date.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Walking into her apartment, Sakura immediately noticed the window was open, meaning Sasuke wasn't in the apartment. The pinkette honestly felt relieved. She sat on her couch, and took off her heels. Before she could even register her emotions, numerous tears left her eyes, and she broke down.

Sakura knows why she's crying so much. She can't stand her feelings towards Sasuke Uchiha. The pinkette now understands why she doesn't want to have a relationship with Kiba.

She likes Sasuke.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Sitting on top of a building, his legs dangled from the edge, as the wind blew his raven locks. The Uchiha resisted the urge to find out who this guy is that asked Sakura to go out. He doesn't know why, but he hates the guy, even though Sasuke doesn't know him. Sure, the raven-haired man knows he likes Sakura, but why does he have to be jealous?

"Hey punk, what's in your pockets?" Sasuke heard from below. He looked down, spotting an older looking man, and another man about Sasuke's age. The Uchiha scanned the younger man's actions, and telling by his wobbly posture, he must be intoxicated.

"Tsk, don't mess with me, I could kick your ass in a second." The younger man warned.

This guy's a complete idiot.

The mugger smirked, "You wanna bet?" He pulled out a gun from his jacket pocket, and pointed it at the younger guy. He froze.

Sasuke rolled his eyes, and went down the fire escape quietly, his katana sheathed behind him.

"Listen," The younger man gulped, "I-I'm a cop."

That's your first mistake.

The older man snickered, "Like I care."

The Uchiha swooped down, hoody covering his head, and grabbed the mugger from behind, pulling his arms to the side. A shot fired next to the two, missing the young, intoxicated man completely. Sasuke unsheathed his katana, and quickly swiped it across the man's neck, blood trailing down the man's neck. He dropped him without a second glance, and jerked his katana to the side, then twirling it in his hand quickly, and putting the sword back into the sheath.

The intoxicated man's eyes were wide, "Y-You killed him."

Sasuke approached him, making the drunk guy hit the wall, and the Uchiha grabbed his collar, pushing him up against the brick wall.

"Next time," Sasuke hissed, "Don't tell a mugger you're a cop, idiot."

A strong gust of wind hit the onyx-eyed man, making the hood on his head fall back, and the intoxicated man widened his eyes.

"S-Sasuke Uchih-"

Before he could finish his sentence, he elbowed him in the head, making him fall unconscious. He examined the man, and felt like he recognized him from somewhere. Picking through his coat pocket, Sasuke found the man's ID and badge.

Kiba Inuzuka

"Hn."

From there, Sasuke picked up Kiba, and placed him far away from the dead mugger.

~*~*~*~*~*~

The window was still open when the Uchiha arrived back at Sakura's apartment. Climbing in, he caught a hint of pink on the couch. As he walked towards the couch quietly, he saw Sakura sleeping, her hair raggedy, and her clothes wrinkled. Sasuke also noticed how uncomfortable her position looked on the small couch.

He cursed under his breath, as he put the sheath of his sword down, and placed his arms gently under the pinkette's back and legs. As the Uchiha carried her into her bedroom, he stared at her face, which held dried tears.

After he placed her on the bed, he turned to walk out of the door.

"Sasuke?" Sakura asked drowsily.

He walked back to her, without saying a word. The pinkette's emerald eyes were barely open, but she still said, "I don't think I can do this anymore."
