Chapter 15
This was her chance. If Sasuke was willing to tell her everything, this could be the best way to test him and his candor. Sakura really doesn't expect too much out of him, but enough to trust his word. The pinkette already knows his past from what Naruto said, so he can't lie to her.
She furrowed her eyes, "You'll tell me about South Avenue?"
Sakura noted how his jaw tightened, but she couldn't blame him. It was obviously a touchy topic.
Staring blankly at her, he responded, "Give me time."
"Now, Sasuke." She snapped.
He sighed shakily, and walked a little ways from her. Sasuke put his face in his hands, and Sakura began to feel pity. She should say something, but she won't, because she doesn't want it to be obvious that she knows.
"D-Do you want something to eat?" The pinkette asked.
He didn't say anything, and she pulled out a chair for him, and grabbed two plates from the top cupboard. Setting a few strips of chicken breast and potatoes on each plate, Sakura heard the squeak of the chair, and a smile tugged at her lips.
"Water?" She asked.
Still no answer, but she still poured two cups of water. Slowly and cautiously, the pinkette set the plate and water in front of him, and grabbed him a fork. She did the same with her own meal. Once she sat down, he began eating. Sasuke was eating the food too fast for her liking, and she squinted at him.
"Have you been eating the food I've already given you?"
He put the last of the food in his mouth, chewed, and swallowed, "No."
"Why not?" Sakura was a bit shocked.
"You didn't owe me anything." He replied blankly.
"Okay, but I also spent half my earnings."
Sasuke shrugged, and she knew it was time.
"Talk." The pinkette tried to say as nicely as possible.

He could see it. All of it. The blood splattered across walls and on the patterned sidewalks. The residents draped across fences and ledges in their desperate attempts to escape the terror in front of them. That eerie silence on that solemn night, that Sasuke would never forget.
Sasuke's eye twitched as he remembered that night. Images popping inside his head, making him want to scream. And then came the vivid picture of his beloved parents on top of each other, their own blood mixing into one. The moonlight perfectly illuminating their corpses. Someone he looked up to, admired, standing over his parents, their parents, not even batting an eye at the sight in front of him.
Sakura examined Sasuke's actions. He was sweating, twitching and wincing, and jittery. She's never seen him so out of it. She immedietly started to feel guilty for doing this, testing him by wanting him to tell her his past, even though his past is a dark one.
He let out a shaky breath, and looked up at her. Sasuke could swear he saw his mother sitting in Sakura's seat. But she morphed back into Sakura, and that was when he knew he needed to tell her. But why? Those were his thoughts. Why should he tell her? Why does he feel the need to tell this beautiful and smart detective everything? Willing to risk his sanity to tell her. This is out of the ordinary for him.
"Now, Sasuke." Sakura said slowly, eyeing his reaction.
That one demand, made Sasuke understand her intentions, "You know."
The pinkette didn't expect that.
"What?"
"I know what you're doing," His demeanor changed to a suspicious glare, "Are you testing me?"
"How did y-"
"I can read people easily. The way you're urging me to tell you. If you didn't know, you'd give me time, because you want to know everything, and you wouldn't want to risk me denying your request. But no, you're different now."
Sakura was shocked. He was a step ahead of her. She should've been more careful.
"Listen, I-"
"You have to give me time." He closed his eyes, and grit his teeth.
"You're right, I'm sorry. I just wanted to hear it from you, and not from a file."
"Tell me what you know." He said coldly, still keeping his eyes shut.
"But-"
"Now."
She nodded, almost scared, "South Avenue is home to the Uchiha clan. Your whole clan was murdered by your brother Itachi Uchiha-"
She saw how his fists clenched, and she continued, "You want revenge. You want to avenge your clan. But Sasuke, you need to know revenge is not-"
"Shut up," He opened his eyes, and gave her a dark glare, "You don't understand anything. I don't need a detective to talk me out of my goals."
Sakura gulped, "Isn't this why you 'want' me though, Sasuke. You want my trust. I can't just let you-"
"Tell me, Sakura. What's your nightmare about?"
"I don't understand. . ."
Sasuke tilts his head, "I've seen you. You cringe, and move around constantly. Due to your repeated actions, I'm going to assume you have the same nightmare."
Sakura felt the tears welling up. She's never told anyone this before.
"Sak-"
"Alright!" She said a little too loudly, "Alright. . ."
Sasuke leaned back in the chair, and crossed his arms against his chest.
"I was assigned a case that involved a complete phychopath. I was just a rookie then, but Chief wanted to give me a challenge, so I accepted," She paused for a moment, trying to hold back the tears, "The man, he tortured people, punished them for nothing. W-When we got in contact with him, he requested a passport to leave, otherwise he would go to our loved one's homes. We knew he was lying, but we didn't want to take any risks, so we came up with a compromise. When we met up with him. . ." Sakura stopped talking, and Sasuke noticed she was on the edge of sobbing.
The pinkette continued, "H-He had a child w-with him. A four year old little girl. And he knew, that I was a rookie. He thought I would give him the passport. And when I didn't. . . H-He pulled the t-trigger, and. . ."
Sakura decided she wouldn't hold back, not even in front of Sasuke. The tears fell quickly down her cheeks, and on the wooden table she was staring down at. She didn't want to see Sasuke's reaction. Sakura felt vulnerable, weak, and defenseless, because she was crying in front of him.
"She's d-dead. And it's all my fault." Sakura put a hand over her mouth, and let out a sob.
"It's not your fault." He said blankly.
"It is my fault!" She screamed, "I could've pulled the damn trigger!"
The pinkette rose from her chair, and walked to the window where Sasuke usually comes from. She stood there, not wanting to meet his gaze. But suddenly, she thought about how the tables were just turned. He's supposed to be telling her everything, but she's the one confessing to him. His mind games were starting to irritate her.
"You shouldn't see me like this. . ." She whispered.
Sasuke got up, and walked towards her. She still stared out the window, even if there was nothing to see.
"Your information is correct. Everything I love has been taken away from my own brother. Happy now?" There was a darkness in Sasuke's voice.
"No." She shook her head.
He put his hand on her shoulder, and said, "I'm gonna go."
The pinkette nodded her head, and turned towards him, "I hate to say this, but I understand you."
Sasuke just stared intently at her, and she continued, "You're alone, and I get that. But why do you feel the need to always be around me? I have nothing to offer you."
He gave her the same stare, "You don't make me feel so alone."
Her facial expression softened, and his statement tugged at her heartstrings.
"But Sasuke, this can't happen. I'm working a case that forces me to risk my life to find and arrest you. I can't help but feel guilty."
"Then don't." He put his hand on her cheek like the night before.
"Sas-"
"Maybe if I were a serial killer or a rapist, you'd want me gone for good, but I'm not that person. I help people, and that's why you want me around."
She sighed, "I-"
He stopped her by placing his lips gently on her forehead, and she widened her eyes. What was he doing? He released her, and took a step out the window, then looked at her.
"Don't deny it."
