Chapter 5: Dead Girl Calling- Case #2: Part 1
"Welcome to Chez Roux Restaurant, how may I help you?" The waitress approaches our table waiting to take our orders.
"Could we get three large pizzas please with the drink being all Coca Cola." Jones gives a small smile at the waitress as she writes down what he orders.
"Your order should be ready in a few minutes." She gives a little nod before leaving our table.
"How come you're shouting us Jones? You never do." Veronica chuckles and Jones just narrows his eyes.
"Very funny, but there is a new officer coming tomorrow and Chief Adams wants Sergeant Wilson to show them the ropes." He scratches his head and looks at all of us.
"So what happens to you?" Trevor looks at Jones with slight concern.
"Nothing I guess, the new officer just has to be on the field with Sergeant Wilson for a little bit then he can have the both of us on the field with him." He went to say something else but stopped when the food and drinks were placed on the table.
"Enjoy your meal!" The waitress smiles at us before leaving so we could eat.
"Don't worry Jones, I'll keep you busy while I have the new detective on the field with me." I give him a small smirk and he rolls his eyes.
"Trust you to make me work Wilson." We all laugh and start to eat the pizza that was on our table.
We all laugh and continue to eat until everything was gone, including our drinks. I wonder if this new detective will be any good.
***
"Good morning Sergeant Wilson!" Chief Adams opens the door to her office.
"Morning Chief Adams, need me for something?" I look at her curiously before she gestures for me to enter her office.
I walk towards her office and enter to see a girl with long red hair and is wearing a police uniform. This must be the new detective.
"Sergeant Wilson, this is Detective Knowles. She will be on the field with you for a couple of days." She slightly turns to face me and smiles nervously.
"Right, I hear I'm meant to be teaching you a few things while we're out there." I give a small smile and she nods her head.
"That's right but unfortunately you guys will have to get to know each other later because I got a call from someone by the name of Cherry about a murder not far from the Yellow Dove." Chief Adams dismisses us and we both quickly leave her office and head to the car.
We start the car and head to the Yellow Dove. I've heard so much about the Yellow Dove, apparently it's meant to be one of the best nightclubs in Rosebrooke. Well, considering it is now a crime scene for a murder I'm not so sure anymore.
"So... My name is Tyra, I like cats and my favourite colour is orange." I could hear the nervousness in her voice.
"My name is John, I like dogs and my favourite colour is green." I look at Detective Knowles and give her a small smile and she returns one back.
"I guess I'm just a little nervous." She nervously plays with her hair that is sticking out from under her hat.
"You'll be fine, just take notes on the important stuff and follow my lead." She nods her head as we pull up at the Yellow Dove.
We get out of the car to be greeted by a woman in distress. Her eyes are puffy and red, we can also see the tears that stained her cheeks.
"Y-You must be t-the officers! P-Please follow m-me!" She grabs both of our hands and leads us around the back of the nightclub. We come to a sudden stop and my mouth drops opens.
I look at Knowles who had her eyes wide open and was trying not to puke. The sight before our eyes was horrendous, whoever did this was brutal about it.
"Oh Velvet! Poor Velvet! Who would do such a thing?!" The woman falls to her knees and starts to cry again, clutching her face with her hands.
"Knowles, could you escort this woman away from the crime scene? We will interrogate her when she's calmed down." Knowles nods her head and wraps an arm around the woman's shoulder and leads her away from the crime scene.
Great, another sicko. I can't really tell what the fatal wound is due to the corpse being covered in so much blood, to the point where you can't even identify clothing and her long brown hair is almost non-existent. We will have to bring the corpse over to Trevor, see what his autopsy says.
I close off the crime scene and start to look around for possible clues. I look around the suspended corpse to notice a bloody cellphone on the floor. Dammit, of course it locked but it's covered in blood so this might be the victim's phone.
Let's try and find some ID, we know her name is Velvet but we need a surname, hopefully there is a wallet somewhere. I keep looking around to notice a faded piece of paper next to the bin. Hmm, most of the words are faded. I'll need the powder kit to read what it says.
I pick up the faded paper from the ground and hold onto it tightly. I turn to make my way to the car but see Detective Knowles appear around the corner.
"How is she?" I approach Detective Knowles with the faded paper and cellphone in seperate bags.
"She's calmed down a lot now. I see you found some evidence." She gives me a smile trying to hide the nervousness that can be seen in her eyes.
"Yeah, we need the victim to go to Trevor so could you contact him on your walkie talkie? I'll go interrogate the witness." She nods her head as I hand her the evidence, she picks up her walkie talkie while I approach the woman who was sitting down on a chair.
"Hello ma'am, is everything alright?" I sit down next to her and she looks up at me sniffling.
"I'm Cherry, well my name is Rita but Cherry is my work name, I called you guys." She struggles to smile as she plays with her long orange hair.
Info: Suspect 1
Name: Rita "Cherry" Louise
Age: 23
Occupation: Call Girl
RTV: Victim's Best Friend
Hair colour: Orange
Eye colour: Light Blue
Height: 5'5
Weight: 60 kgs
Blood Type: A+
Accessories: Gold Chain around neck
"Velvet was like a sister to me, I was meant to cover her shift today and thats how I stumbled upon her body." She nervously fiddles with the chain around her neck.
"I see and was Velvet her work name too?" I try my best to make Rita as comfortable as possible show she opens up while I set up my tablet.
"Well yeah, being call girls we are not allowed to use our real names. Velvet's actual name was Jackie Starr but to her clients she was known as Velvet Starr, just like my clients know me as Cherry Louise." I type all this down on my tablet while Detective Knowles quietly approaches us to listen in on our conversation.
"I see, do you know anyone who would want to hurt Velvet? Let alone kill her?" She shakes her head slowly and gives me an unsure look.
"I'm sorry, this is all I know so far. I wonder what the boss will say?" She nervously twiddles her thumbs around looking down at the ground.
"What's your boss' name? Maybe he can help us." I try my best to encourage Rita, the more evidence we have the easier it will be to solve this case.
"Jacob Jackson, but he only answers to Jazzy J. He should be starting in a couple of minutes." She looks at me with nervous eyes while I continue to type on my tablet.
"Thank you for your help Cherry." I give her a small smile before getting up to leave.
"Please, call me Rita." She gives a small smile while I nod my head.
I leave and head to Knowles who was waiting for my orders patiently. She was slowly starting to become comfortable in the environment that she was in which is good.
"Knowles, how would you like to stay behind for a bit and do your first interrogation?" She looks at me in shock and disbelief.
"This is a joke right?!" She tries to contain her excitement as I nod my head to confirm that it wasn't a joke.
"I'm being serious, you won't learn anything if you're just watching me. You have to get in there and do some stuff." I smile at her as she slowly regains her composure.
"I won't let you down!" She gives me a small salute before face palming at her stupidity. I let out a small laugh before waving at her and handing her a piece of paper. Knowles waves back and I get in the car and drive off back to the station.
*Knowles' P.O.V*
I can't believe it! I'm going to be doing my very first interrogation and so soon! The excitement overflowing from my body is indescribable. Alright, calm down Tyra; you don't want to ruin your big chance. All I have to do now is wait for the suspect, hang on... I don't even know what the suspect's name is or what they look like! God dammit I'm screwed!
I start to pace back and forth trying to calm myself down. Okay, okay; think Tyra! If I was Sergeant Wilson what would I do to subtly tell a junior about the suspect? I clamp my hands together which causes something to crumple. I open my hands and see a piece of paper to fall to the ground. Oh right, Sergeant Wilson gave me this piece of paper, I wonder what it says? I bend down and pick up the paper to read it.
Suspect goes by the name Jacob Jackson, prefers to be called "Jazzy J" he's the boss. Should be there soon!
Good luck Knowles! I have complete faith in you!
A smile creeps up on my face after I finish reading the note Sergeant Wilson left me. I guess he really does want me to succeed which makes me happy; the other bureau I worked for kind of just left me on my own when I had no idea what to do, it was horrible. I thought my whole dream was over but fortunately I was wrong, Chief Adams offered me a position and there was no way I would turn it down.
I won't lie but I was really nervous coming today. I thought Sergeant Wilson would of been the same as the other people from the other bureau but clearly I was wrong as he has left me to do my first interrogation and has complete faith in me! I could feel the excitement building up inside of me once again, just as I'm about to calm myself down an unknown man approaches me.
"Is there a problem officer?" The unknown man comes closer to me and I can make out what he is wearing.
He is wearing a royal purple jacket with a hat that's the same colour. He is wearing black formal shoes and royal purple pants. It's official this guy has an obsession with the colour purple.
"Are you Jaco- Uhh I mean Jazzy J by any chance?" I nervously fiddle with my long red hair as he smirks.
"The one and only." He takes off his hat and gives a slight bow.
Info: Suspect 2
Name: Jacob "Jazzy J" Jackson
Age: 37
Occupation: Pimp
RTV: Victim's Boss
Hair colour: Black
Eye colour: Brown
Height: 5'10
Weight: 70 kgs
Blood Type: A+
Accessories: Gold Chain around neck
"What may I help you with officer?" He fixes up his hat so his hair isn't sticking out from it anymore.
"I'm here investigating the murder of Velvet." Jacob started to shift uncomfortably where he stood and fiddled with the chain on his neck.
I take out the notepad that Sergeant Wilson gave me and prepare for what the suspect has to say.
"Velvet's dead? Shit. I didn't know the poor girl would meet her end sooner than later." He frowns at the thought of the victim and looks up at me with sorrow in his eyes.
"Do you know anyone who might want to hurt Velvet?" He puts a finger to his chin as if he was thinking.
"Unfortunately no.... Velvet was always one to steer clear of trouble. She was very careful with her work and with her clients she had, so it's very hard to say if she had any enemies that wanted to hurt her, let alone kill her." He looks down at the ground and shuffles his feet. I write down all he says on my note pad before looking at him.
"I see. Thank you for your help, I'll be sure to inform you if anything comes up." I give him a small smile while he gives a small nod in return.
"I'll also be sure to let you know if I find out anything." He gives a small smile and walks off to where Cherry is while I head to the police car that Sergeant Wilson left for me.
I get into the car and start the engine. This murder is so horrible, that poor girl, poor Velvet. I'll never get that image out of my head, her corpse suspending in the air and pinned up against the wall.
A shiver runs down my spine as I pull up at the station and enter the bureau to look for Sergeant Wilson to give him the suspect's so called help.
*Wilson's P.O.V*
I knock on the door to Alex's office to have him look up and smile brightly at me. I couldn't help but smile back feeling my cheeks become slightly tinted with blush. I enter his office and approach him as he sits at his desk.
"What can I help you with Sergeant Wilson?" I never really listened to his voice but it's so soothing to my ears. I bring my focus back to my task and give Alex the victim's phone and he takes it right away.
I watch him curiously as he starts to hack into the phone and cracks the password. I continue to watch him but this time in awe as I see his abilities fully come into play, he turns around and gives me a proud smile.
"Well according to the victim's phone log it seems a certain Raylene Lyons was the last person to contact her." He ruffles his hair, moving his blue-tipped bangs away from his face as he looks up at me.
"Raylene Lyons? I feel like I've heard of that name from one of Jones' weird conversations when I told him that the Yellow Dove was a crime scene." Just thinking about that conversation made me question Jones' leisure activities a little bit.
"The Yellow Dove is a crime scene?! You have to be kidding me! Well if you ever get any free time after the investigation you should go to the Yellow Dove and ask for Raylene Lyons, she's pretty good at what she does."
"Yeah Jones has the most... Interesting of conversations." He chuckles which shows off his pearly white teeth. "Well Raylene is apparently one of the best dominatrix's at the Yellow Dove. I did request-" He cut himself off realising what he was about to say which causes him to look down in embarrassment.
I knew Alex was about to tell me something that was personal and got completely embarrassed by it. I feel privileged that he almost opened up to me; my heart starts to beat heavily and thoughts start to run through my head.
I know this feeling, I know it well; but surely I'm not am I? Maybe I am, maybe this is meant to be from the moment we were in the same car together and he changed, and so have I... I've fallen for Alex Foster.
Shit, shit, shit. This isn't professional nor acceptable in the profession that we both are in, but am I willing to stop this chance, my only chance with him?
No. If this is my only chance then I'm going to take it! But... What happens if this costs both of our jobs? Stop it Wilson! Stop thinking about the possibilities and just do it! But right now focus on the investigation.
I ruffle his hair and smile at him, making him smile back which causes a small dimple to appear on his cheek which I never took notice of before making his smile just that more adorable. Ugh! This is going to be hard!
"Well I presume this Raylene Lyons must know something to do with the victim so could you ring her so she comes to the station?" I keep the smile on my face as he nods his head and dials her number. I start to head out and Alex holds up one finger, indicating she will be at the station in one minute. I nod my head and exit his office only to bump into Knowles.
"Ah Detective Knowles, how did the interrogation go?" I ask curiously while she gives me a small smile.
"Surprisingly well and successful." She twirls her finger through her hair as she smiles brightly while I chuckle.
"You need to have more faith in yourself Knowles." I give her a reassuring pat on the back and she just nods her head.
Knowles gets out her notepad and shows me the what she obtained from the suspect. I read over it but stop when I hear the clicking of heels approaching.
"Sergeant Wilson?" I look up and see a woman dressed in black fishnet stockings, black heels and a leather bodysuit with a jacket just covering her outfit.
"Raylene Lyons?" I look at her curiously and she smiles and nods her head.
"That is correct, I was told to come to the station and here I am." She ruffles her short hair and smiles.
Info: Suspect 3
Name: Raylene Lyons
Age: 45
Occupation: Dominatrix
RTV: Colleague
Hair colour: Dark Brown
Eye colour: Green
Height: 5'11
Weight: 80 kgs
Blood Type: A+
Accessories: Gold Chain around neck
"Ahh yes, please come with us." She nods her head while Knowles and I walk to the interrogation room with the suspect right behind us before entering.
"Now that we're here mind telling me why I got called into the station?" She stares at Knowles and myself while she takes a seat to sit down.
"Umm yes, we brought you here for the murder of a certain Velvet Starr." Knowles fiddles with her hair while I study the suspect's facial expression and behaviour.
"Velvet's dead?! Jesus... I was literally speaking to her yesterday." A slight frown appears on her face as she ruffles her short brown hair.
"What did you and Velvet talk about yesterday?" I set my tablet up while I wait for Raylene to tell us what they talked about.
"Well, Velvet rang for some advice; she had saved up enough money to buy the Yellow Dove. You see Velvet had a vision for the Yellow Dove and most of us agreed with it but you have those people who disagreed with her ideas. She was asking me what I think she should do and I knew she worked hard for that so I told her to go for it but if that's what got her killed... I'll never forgive myself." She fiddles with the gold chain around her neck still frowning.
I type everything that the suspect says. So Velvet had a vision and was killed for it, whoever did this clearly disagreed with what she had in mind.
"Could you name a couple of people who disagreed with Velvet's ideas?" Knowles continues to scribble on her notepad while Raylene looks at both of us.
"I can, her boss Jacob Jackson and some entertainer who goes by the name of Venus Viper; it wouldn't surprise me if they have something to do with her death." She spits out their names with hateful venom rolling off her tongue.
"Interesting, thank you for coming Raylene, don't go far in case we need to ask you more questions." She nods her head and gives us a small smile before leaving the interrogation room.
"Jacob Jackson... I interrogated him not too long ago..." I could see the disappointment on Knowles' face.
"If he did do it he won't admit something like that straight away, or Raylene could be lying. There are so many possibilities so don't beat yourself up about it okay." She gives a small smile before nodding her head. I put my tablet away and leave the interrogation room with Knowles right behind me.
"Sergeant Wilson! I've got the autopsy results." I turn around to see Trevor signalling me to enter his office, I nod my head and gesture for Knowles to come as well.
We walk into his office and Trevor leads us to the body. The victim had stitches on her torso, I guess Trevor found something out internally.
"Now let's get started. The wounds on your victim's hands were not the fatal wound, in fact it's actually the stab wound on her abdomen. She has three stabs wounds on her abdomen but whatever weapon was used pierced through the victim's liver, causing internal and external bleeding. The killer also tried to cover up the defensive wounds on the victim's knuckles by making her bleed on the hands, I'm not surprised if the killer is walking around with a big whopping bruise or two." Trevor ruffles his hair and looks at Knowles who writes down the evidence.
"So now we know that the killer has a bruise or two. We are doing good so far!" Knowles smiles and closes her notebook. Ahh that reminds me, I need to find out who lives in 165 Oakwood Crescent. I discovered that address using my powder kit on that blank piece of paper I found at the crime scene.
"I need to drop into Alex's office just to find out who lives at this address. You and Trevor can get to know each other or you can come with me Knowles, I don't mind." I give a small smile while Knowles looks between Trevor and I.
"Detective Knowles and I can get to know each other when we all go out for lunch, also have fun in Alex's office." He gives a small smirk and wiggles his eyebrows suggestively causing me to sigh and face palm.
Knowles gives me a confused look. I turn and walk out of Trevor's office with Knowles' footsteps right behind me. We both make it to Alex's office and he looks up with that big gorgeous smile of his and as always his lip piercing moves perfectly with it.
"Hey Alex." I give him a smile and he gives another smile but this time revealing his teeth.
"Hello Sergeant Wilson, what can I help you with?" I hand Alex the paper that has the written address on it and show it to him.
"Could you please tell us who lives at this address?" He gives a small smile before looking next to me and seeing Knowles.
"You must be Detective Knowles. Alex Foster the Tech God, it's nice to meet you." He holds out his hand for Knowles to shake it, she looks at me before hesitantly accepting the handshake.
"A pleasure to meet you Alex." She gives him a small shy smile before he does what he does best with technology and finds our answer.
"The person who lives at this address is a certain Jackie Starr. Wait, that's the victim isn't it?" Both Knowles and I give him a small nod and he looks at us with slight sadness.
"Thanks for your help Alex." I ruffle his hair causing him to huff and look at me in annoyance.
"You need to stop doing that." He looks away as his cheeks slowly tint a shade of pink. I smile brightly at his reaction.
"Sorry, anyways probably see you in a bit with more evidence." I give him a small wave before exiting his office with Knowles right behind me.
We exit the station and get into the car and head to 165 Oakwood Crescent. As we are driving I couldn't help but think about Alex's smile and how cute he looked and his reaction when I ruffled his hair which caused him to blush. He truly is a special person, especially to me but he just didn't know it.
"Sergeant Wilson?" I'm snapped out of my thoughts and turn to see Knowles giving me a slight look of confusion before smiling softly.
"What?" I give her a look of confusion before focusing on the road so we don't crash.
"You like him don't you?" I choke on the air that I was breathing which causes her to giggle.
"What gave you that idea?!" I look at her in disbelief as she tries to hide her laughter.
"Well, the way you both smile at each other or I could say the most obvious thing." She smirks at me before going into a fit of laughter.
"What is it?!" I give her an eager look which causes her laughter to grow.
"If I keep laughing like this I'll be as pink as you!" My mouth drops ajar as I quickly look in the rear-view mirror to see my cheeks a dark pink.
God dammit face why did you betray me this time?!
I try and think of something to say but couldn't. Knowles slowly calms herself down as we reach the victim's house. I stop the engine and we both get out of the car.
"It's alright to like him you know." She gives a small smile which makes me sigh in relief.
"You think so? You don't think I will lose my job let alone Alex losing his job?" She gives me a blank look before we both enter the house.
"Pfft, if they do that then you can take them for discrimination." She folds her arms over her chest and smirks, cocking a brow at me.
I smile at her as we enter the victim's home. The house was small and cosy. It has a small wooden table with a small fireplace in the living room. Knowles instantly goes to the little table.
"Do you think this cigarette could be useful?" She looks at it curiously before glancing at me.
"It could be, but it could belong to the victim. Does it have any sort of lipstick on it?" I ask curiously while Knowles studies the cigarette.
"Hmm, I don't think so." She studies the cigarette some more before putting gloves on and putting it into a little bag.
I give Knowles a small smile while she does the same. I look around the house some more and realise one of the cupboards are open; I go to it and start moving things around until something catches my eye. I pull it out and realise a bottle of hand sanitiser with blood on it was in the cupboard.
"Hmm..." I look at it carefully before carefully getting a blood sample and going back to Knowles.
"I think that's everything, for now anyways." She runs her fingers through her hair before giving me an unsure look.
"I think you're right. Let's go and give these clues to Veronica!" I say in enthusiasm to try and give her courage, to my surprise it actually worked. She gives me a bright smile before we both walk out of the victim's home and into the car before driving off back to the station.
After driving for quite some time we arrive at station and enter it, heading to Veronica's office. I knock on her door before she looks up at us and smiles.
"I was starting to think that I would be no use to you in this investigation, clearly I was wrong." I chuckle before handing her the blood sample and cigarette.
"I took the blood sample off some hand sanitiser that was found at the victim's place; the cigarette was also found at the victim's house, thanks to Detective Knowles!" I turn around and see her shyly smile. I couldn't lie about the cigarette, after all, she found it not me.
Veronica takes the clues and starts to do her analysis work on them.
"Just give me a few minutes, I'll have some answers for you soon." She wasn't looking at us but I knew she was determined to get us answers.
I glance at Knowles who is staring at Veronica intently, completely dazed by her work and what she is doing. I guess I never really thought about how the others did their job... Except for maybe Alex... Oh god there I go again. Ugh!
"Well first off, the cigarette had some DNA that is unidentifiable, however, according to Trevor's autopsy the victim has no signs of smoking or any type of smoke in her lungs and system at all. This means that this cigarette belongs to the killer! Therefore your killer smokes!" Knowles writes the information down on her notebook.
Veronica then goes to continue the next clue and explain what she found out.
"Now this blood sample you got from a hand sanitiser container correct?" She glances at me while she waits for my answer.
"Yeah... I also found it at the victim's home." I add the last part so she didn't ask me the location of the hand sanitiser.
"Hmm, that's very interesting, you see this blood is a match to your victim." Knowles gasps causing me to look at her.
"So does that mean the hand sanitiser belongs to the victim then?!" She almost sounds distressed and worried but Veronica gives her a reassuring smile.
"Not necessarily, the reason why the victim's blood was all over the hand sanitiser bottle is because the killer was using the sanitiser to get rid of the blood from their hands, which can only mean one thing; the killer uses hand sanitiser!" Knowles let's out a breath of relief before writing the clue down in her notebook once again.
"Well, we have made a lot of progress! This killer so far isn't doing so well!" Knowles smiles at us both causing Veronica and I to chuckle.
"Thanks Veronica, you've helped a l-" Chief Adams rushes into Veronica's office and faces Knowles and I.
"Sergeant Wilson, there's a Venus here to see you, she says it's urgent." Venus... Oh that's right, Raylene mentioned her name when giving us some evidence; I'll definitely have to talk to her.
"Thanks chief, I'll see her right now." I give Veronica a slight wave while I gesture Knowles to follow me.
We walk to the front desk to see a woman in thick black stockings, heels, a black leather skirt with a dark navy blue top and long curly hair. She turns to face Knowles and I when she hears our footsteps approaching her.
"Are you Sergeant Wilson?"
