Chapter 3: Nickel & Dimed- Case #1: Part 2

*Jones' P.O.V*

The Rosebrooke Bar, one of the most violent places in all of Rosebrooke. People get drunk and turn into rabid animals, causing fights all the time. You wouldn't believe how many arrests and fines I've giving out just with assault and violence, but now this place is a clue to a murder. I enter the bar and to my surprise it was empty. Just the barman cleaning his bar table. He looks up before speaking.

"How can I help you officer?" He gives me a confused look before walking over to me.

"Sorry sir, I'm here to investigate the bar. I'm afraid it's a part of a murder investigation because the victim was here before she died." The barman looks down before scratching the back of his head.

"Feel free to take a look around, take as long as you need." I nod my head before investigating the bar. I start searching the bar and I notice a crate full of different items. I begin to search the crate, taking the items out one by one. I was about to call it quits until I notice something with blood on it. I grab a bag and pick up the evidence with it. It was a pair of gloves with blood and some sort of yellow substance on it. I need to get this evidence to Veronica and while I'm here I need to talk to the barman.

Info: Suspect 3
Name: Thomas Hinterland
Eye colour: Blue
Blood Type: A-
Hair colour: Blonde
Height: 6'3
Weight: 93 kg
Occupation: Barman
RTV: Victim's Boss
Age: 35
Accessories: None

I walk over to the barman and notice a name badge pinned on his shirt. Thomas is what it says.

"Thomas, mind if I speak with you for a second?" He looks at me before walking over.

"How can I help officer?" Thomas folds his arms and looks at me with concern.

"Does the name Felicia Hawk ring a bell." He looks over at his bar before walking to it. He starts rummaging through his drawers and pulls out what seems to be a roster. His eyes start tracing through the words before he points and slides it at the end of the bar. I walk over to the bar and look at the roster.

"She works here as a waitress. She was a really good worker but I heard the news about her death, it saddens me greatly. There was no one like her." I notice Thomas look down at the ground with a sad look and notice three red steaks on his neck. Without a doubt they were scratches, before I could say anything he grabs a pen and starts crossing out her name on the roster. He puts the pen down and I notice that he was grasping the pen with his right hand. I note it down in my notepad before putting the evidence in my rucksack.

"Thank you for your time Thomas. If anything comes up I'll be sure to inform you." I give a little wave before exiting the bar. Thomas gives a little wave and nods his head slightly as I exit the bar; I walk to the car and enter it before starting the engine and grab the walkie talkie. I push the buttons on it until the static sound appears for a split second and disappears

"Sergeant Wilson, can you hear me?" I remove my fingers from the buttons and wait for a reply.

"Loud and clear Detective Jones. Any new info to report?" His tone of voice almost seemed fed up, it's probably the suspect giving him shit, well can't say I'm surprised. I've met a lot of suspects and most of them are the same, rude, facetious and most of all annoying. Always claiming the "I didn't do it officer." Or "I'm innocent." Or just playing dumb in the whole situation. It does get quite frustrating.

"I've finished investigating the Rosebrooke bar and have interrogated the barman there and I'm on my way back to the station." Well not really interrogated, just asked him a few questions and it was successful if I do say so myself

"Great work Jones, I'll be glad to hear that information after I've interrogated Mr. Knights' sister, I'll-" Sergeant Wilson cuts out and all that can be heard from the walkie talkie is static.

"Sergeant Wilson? Sergeant Wilson are you there?" There was no response from the other end of the walkie talkie, all that could be heard was the static which soon disappeared. I wonder what happened? Oh well, I better get to the station and report my findings, hopefully Sergeant Wilson is there.

*Wilson's P.O.V*

"Jones! Jones, can you hear me?! Dammit." I let go of the buttons on the walkie talkie and start the engine of the car

"Oh dear, did something happen John?" Great Rosa patronising me is the last thing I need.

"It's Sergeant Wilson to you Miss Knight." Ugh, what the hell is wrong with this thing. I push the buttons repeatedly hoping it will work but my efforts were foiled and nothing happened. Rosa starts to laugh at my failure of getting the walkie talkie to work.

"Oh dear Sergeant Wilson, is there something wrong with your equipment?" I notice a little smirk on her face as she sarcastically shows sympathy.

"Just shut it." I drive off to the station, ignoring Rosa to the best of my abilities throughout the whole trip. The trip to the station only took about 15 minutes but with Rosa it felt like hours. I turn the engine off and exit out of the car before letting Rosa out of the car as well. As she gets out I slap some handcuffs on her wrists and she just looks at me.

"Are the handcuffs necessary?" She squirmed a little but it was too late, the handcuffs were on her wrists tightly as I lead her to the interrogation room

Info: Suspect 2
Name: Rosa Knight
Eye colour: Blue
Blood Type: AB+
Hair colour: Long black hair
Height: 5'7
Weight: 65 kgs
Occupation: Barrister
RTV: Victim's friend
Age: 25
Accessories: Earrings, Ring on middle and ring finger

"Now, you remember why you're here?" Knowing her attitude she will most likely be a smart ass so I just expect something along those lines.

"Yes sergeant Wilson, I do know why I'm here and I'm willing to cooperate." I almost choke on the air I was breathing, is this the same Rosa I picked up from the house not too long ago or has she all of a sudden become possessed? "But I will say this, I'm not surprised that Felicia ended up deceased." Well that I didn't expect.

"Do you care to elaborate on what you said?" This turned out very interesting, after all she was the last to see the victim alive.

"Well, Felicia liked to fool around a bit, then she started to screw around, which is like fooling around but without dinner." She ruffled her hand through her hair with an almost disappointed look on her face. "I did warn her, I warned her to stop what she was doing because I knew it would end badly, but she didn't listen." Her facial expression turned to frustration and regret.

"What exactly did you say to her as a warning?" I start to set up my tablet so I can briefly get down her testimony.

"All I said was that her promiscuous behaviour was going to get her into trouble, I begged her to stop and change but she just laughed and blew me off, ungrateful bitch." She rolled her eyes. "Well not my problem anymore, karma finally caught up with her." Well seems like she hasn't forgiven her for what she did but yet her attitude makes her suspicious of the crime; but at least I'm getting all this information down.

"Is there anything else I should know?" I know there's stuff she has to tell me, she pretty much admitted she saw the victim before she met her untimely demise.

"Other than that she was a whore? No I don't think so." I guess her train of thought is blinded by the anger and resentment she feels. Well other than that I should go and see Veronica about those results for the skin particles.

"Thank you for your help Miss Knight." She grumbled under breath as she knew she would have to stay in custody. I take my leave from the interrogation room and start heading towards Veronica's office. Now that I think about it, now would be a good time to ask Alex about his weird behaviour considering I have to walk past his office anyway.

I turn my tablet off and continue walking to my destination. I was determined to at least get answers, possibly more answers than what I have been given plus it takes my mind off things.

"Sergeant Wilson!" I turn around and can see Alex in the distance, he jogged over to me and before I could say anything he was already in front of me. "U-Umm hi..." Wow he got really nervous quickly, it's kinda cute. Wait. Did I just think that? I shouldn't worry about that thought for now.

"Hi Alex, is there something I can help you with?" Good job Wilson always making it about work. No wonder your social skills aren't up to scratch.

"U-Umm..." He slightly ruffled his blue-tipped hair and bit the bottom of his lip nervously. "W-Well-" Before he could finish his sentence he was cut off by Veronica's voice calling out to me.

"It's good to see you Sergeant Wilson, I'm guessing you were heading to my office correct?" She was ruffling her hair in place, walking towards Alex and myself. "I'm sorry to interrupt your conversation with him Alex but you can come as well if you want too." I could see the disappointment on his face as he nervously plays with his wrist.

I gently place my hand on his head and ruffle his hair. He looks up at me with curiosity and I remove my hand from his head.

"Please come Alex." I don't want Alex to be on his lonesome; I don't know why I care so much. Ugh I'm not going to bother in trying to figure out my mind.

He smiles brightly and tugs on my arm in excitement before pulling away and looking down to hide his blushing face.

"Right, well I would like to tell you the results of the skin cells, plus Jones gave me something else to analyse; I would also like to tell you the results of that as well." She slowly starts to walk to her office, I look at Alex and gesture him to follow me as I start to walk to Veronica's office.

He slowly walks closely behind me as we walk to Veronica's office. I walk in her office and go to her desk, coming to a stop. Alex was too busy fiddling with his fingers and accidentally walks into me.

"S-Sorry sergeant Wilson." He looks down at the ground away from me. I go to say something but Veronica grabs my attention by putting the skin cells in front of me.

"After analysing the skin cells I can tell you that your killer has blue eyes!" I write this new evidence down in my notebook but also record it on my tablet.

"What about what Jones sent you?" Alex curiously looks at the skin cells as he ruffles his hair.

"Well, Jones sent me a pair of gloves that he found at the Rosebrooke bar. Anyways there was blood on them and what I found out about it was pretty interesting." She took off her gloves and cracked her fingers. "There was also a yellow substance on those same gloves, judging by smell it did smell like alcohol, and after doing some tests on the substance I can confirm that the alcohol is whiskey." She started to put her hair in a ponytail before putting her gloves back on.

"So the yellow substance was whiskey, how does this help with the investigation?" Alex looks at Veronica with a slightly confused look. I didn't know I was staring at him; his blue-tipped hair was slightly dangling down his face. I couldn't help but smile at him.

Veronica and Alex were so engulfed in their conversation that they didn't notice my actions. My face started to lightly sting as my heart started to beat slowly and heavily, before I knew what was going on I here Alex call my name.

"Sergeant Wilson, are you okay? You're a little red." I quickly turn away from Alex and start to fan at my face.

"Is it just me or is it hot in here?" I try to play dumb, not knowing why I was red. It can't be because of Alex... Could it?

"Anyways, like I was saying to Alex; the blood I analysed on those gloves belongs to your victim, which means that the killer wore those gloves!" Hmm, so those gloves were found at the Rosebrooke bar, Ill have to pay a visit there myself.

"So because the killer wore those gloves does it mean the killer also drinks whiskey?" He tapped the bottom of his chin trying to figure out the clues.

"That is correct Alex, there was no alcohol in your victim's system according to Trevor's autopsy results, that only leaves the killer; so your killer does indefinitely drink whiskey." So our killer drinks whiskey, better note this piece of evidence down.

So far we know that the killer is right handed, has blue eyes, has scratches on them and drinks whiskey. We have a lot of evidence, but not enough to convict someone of the murder. Ugh, I feel like something is missing, like the murder weapon.

"How close to the investigation are you sergeant Wilson?" Alex looks at me, fiddling with his fingers.

"Very close, I think. There's just something missing." I scratch the top of my head. Where the hell is the murder weapon?

"Well Jones has headed back to where the victim was found, hopefully he will find some more clues." Veronica puts her gloves back on and puts the evidence away.

"I need to search the Knight's place, I was intervened by Rosa so I never got around to doing it." I let out a sigh and get to my feet to head out of Veronica's office.

"U-Umm sergeant Wilson." I turn around and look at Alex who was nervously ruffling his hair. "Do you mind if I come too? I-I have some free time so maybe I can help." He gave a small nervous smile.

I could use the help and I could get to know Alex a little bit more but is it a good idea? I mean he's sweet and cute and he makes me feel things... Wait! Ugh what is wrong with me?! Do I have some sort of feelings for Alex? This is crazy. Well I can't exactly say no and he would be a great help.

"Sure, you can come; I need the help." Alex looks at me and smiles brightly, his lip piercing moving in sync when he smiled. "You ready to head out now?" He shakes his head as we leave Veronica's office.

We walk out of the building and to the car. I unlock the car with the keys and get in, waiting for Alex to hop in the car. While I wait I fiddle with my walkie talkie to see if I can get it to work. I push the buttons on it but nothing happens.

"Dammit..." I put the walkie talkie away as Alex gets into the car. He could see the slight frustration on my face.

"Is everything alright sergeant Wilson?" He gently places his hand on my leg which sent a rush through my body. I slowly put my hand on top of his and gently rub the top of his hand with my thumb. He places his other hand on top of mine, slowly leaning his face closer to mine.

My heart was skipping beats with every inch that he moved closer. I look straight into his eyes, his dark blue sapphire eyes staring straight through my soul, slowly filling with lust. He was inches away from my face and I could feel his hot breath slapping across my face, this side of Alex was different; he was expressing himself more.

I could feel my tinted cheeks going darker as my now erect, throbbing member was trying to break free from its prison deep within my pants as Alex's lips were inches away from mine. I wanted to move closer, my body urged me to move closer to him, my lips and mouth wanted to taste him and my heart craved him but... Stuff like this is hard for me, sure I'm bi an all but physically expressing myself was hard.

I remove my hands from him and grab the walkie talkie and place it in his hands, slowly moving my face away. I could see his heart instantly break as his eyes showed the unshed tears.

"M-My walkie talkie stopped w-working and-" He raises his hand up, signalling me to stop talking.

"I-I-I'll f-fix it f-f-for you..." He tried to talk through his sniffles, trying to hide his pain as the unshed tears finally danced down his face.

Hearing him talk like that, hearing him in so much pain broke my heart. I don't know what to do, I wish I was comfortable in expressing myself to him, I wish I could just kiss him right now to make things better but it wouldn't. It would make things worse.

***

The drive to the Knight's house felt like it took forever. Alex was silent the whole way through the trip, not that I can blame him. He was still holding my walking talkie, rubbing his thumb across it like I did when I placed my hand on his. Dammit! I wanted to bash my head repeatedly against the steering wheel but instead I unbuckled myself as Alex did the same.

I slowly turn to face him but before I could say anything he quickly got out of the car and waited at the door to the Knight's house. I let out a sigh and ruffle my hair slowly; I open the door and get out of the car before locking it.

I slowly walk up to the front door of the Knight's house fiddling with my thumbs. I turn to look at Alex who was looking down at the ground.

"Umm... You ready to go in?" I didn't expect to say it in almost a whisper. Alex didn't say anything, instead he just nodded his head slowly while I opened the door considering there was no one home. My eyes widened slightly at the interior of their house.

The floors were covered in tiles, I could see my reflection on the floor. Alex also looked at the floor in awe. I was completely mesmerised by everything about this house but I have to focus on the investigation... And on my big stuff up a minute ago.

"So... What part would you like to take...?" I was nervous in asking him, I wasn't sure if Alex was still willing to help after what happened.

"I-I'll take kitchen, dining and lounge room." He slowly started walking o kitchen, which left me with the bedrooms and any other room that was in the house. It seemed like he was going back to his original self, but maybe I was just hoping I didn't screw up badly.

I started walking down a hallways which I presumed led to the bedroom and to my luck it did. I enter one of the bedrooms and notice a queen size bed with two little desk drawers on either side of it. I go closer to one of the desk drawers and notice a photo that was folded in half. I examine the photo more and notice that Rosa was in the photo, but why was it folded in half and still in the frame?

I slowly remove the photo from the frame and unfold it to reveal an unknown man standing next to Rosa, he was a lot more taller than her and had short brown hair. Interesting; I put the photo in my pocket, hopefully Alex can identify that man because for some reason I feel like he's connected to this case somehow.

"Sergeant Wilson!" I could hear Alex calling out to me from where he was, it sounds like he found something.

"Coming!" I call back and quickly rush to Alex as I see him in the kitchen, he swiftly turned around hearing my footsteps on the tiled floor.

"You might want to take a look at this." I look at him with slight curiosity and walk to his position. He was standing above the sink and I peer down into it and notice blood slowly seeping down into the drain with a knife in the sink.

"We have to grab this knife before all the blood is gone from it!" Alex nodded his in agreement. I pass Alex the keys and he makes a bolt to the car, grabbing a bag so the evidence doesn't get contaminated anymore then what it is.

Within a flash Alex had returned to the kitchen with the bag, he went to hand it to me but I kindly refuse which causes him look at me in confusion.

"You do it, you found the evidence so you should be the one to put it in the bag." He smiles brightly and almost jumps up and down in excitement, seeing him smile definitely brought a smile to my face as he went over to the kitchen sink and picked up the knife with the bag before tightly sealing it.

He turns to face me before hugging me in excitement, I wrap my arms around him, hugging him back. My heart fluttered and started to beat irregularly. I didn't want to let him go, the feeling of his slightly smaller body in my arms sent tingles through my body. I could feel him remove his arms from around me but I kept my arms around him.

"W-We have to return to the station." I could feel Alex try and wriggle from my grip. I release my grip from him, not realising the pout on my face.

He narrows his eyes at me and trots off to the car. What did I do now? I follow after him at a quick pace but to my surprise he wasn't in the car despite him having the keys. I go to say something to him but he turns around with an unreadable expression on his face.

"You know, I just don't get you." I give him a confused look and walk closer to him.

"What do you mean?" I keep my look of confusion on my face still staring at Alex.

"Forget it, just get in the car." He unlocks the car and gets in the passenger side of the car before handing me the keys. I get in the drivers seat and start the car.

This isn't fair on him... I need to hurry up and decide what I want, I just need a little more time.

***

The drive back to the station was silent. Alex and I didn't converse, I could feel all the mixed emotions radiating off him as we pulled up. I've never seen anyone get out of a car so quickly in my life. I pull the photo out of my pocket and look at it, I know Alex will be able to identify this mysterious man but... Maybe he won't do it because of me. I guess I'll have to find out.

I get out of the car and head into the station. The first thing was to head to Alex's office and give him the photo but I'm pulled aside by Jones.

"Oh hey Jones, what's up?" I give him a curious look.

"I've gotten more evidence, someone called Chief Adams and described someone apparently near the Rosebrooke sign and you wouldn't believe who the unknown person described!" He slightly jumping up and down ecstatic.

"Who did they-" I was cut off by his booming voice.

"They described Blake Torrence! He is one of the biggest pain in the asses Rosebrooke has to offer; he's also one to always cover up his tracks when it comes to the law. I guess that's what happens when you're a mobster." He had a look of determination on his face as if he was finally going to put this guy behind bars.

"Well did you bring him in the station?" Jones rolled his eyes before shaking his head lightly.

"Of course I did! You think I would let that opportunity slide?!" A smile appears on his face as he leads me to the interrogation room. Looks like Alex's office will have to wait.
