---Cross' POV----
"Careful Cross...that floor looks unstable..."
The room, like all the others, was trashed. Papers strewn everywhere across the floor. There was an unmoving lump in one corner of the room. I didn't want to know whether it was a body or not. The floor itself seemed to be almost sagging slightly, as if some unseen weight was pushing down on it. But it didn't look that unstable.
I blinked, taking a cautious step forwards through the open doorway and into the next room, shivering. "It doesn't seem too bad..."
Nightmare stayed by the doorway, gently curling a tentacle around my wrist as he eyed the floor like it was the mother plant that tried to eat Error. "Please don't go any further in..."
I took another step forwards before glancing back at him, rolling my eyes. "It's fine Nighty. It's not gonna suddenly collapse beneath me or something."
No sooner than those words had left my mouth an almighty crack rang out and suddenly the floor beneath my feet caved in, crumbling open.
I let out a scream, attempting to grab onto something as I fell down to the bottom floor. I felt Nightmare's tentacle tighten around my wrist, but it slipped through, only slowing my fall a bit as I hit the floor, my legs crumpling beneath me.
"CROSS!!"
I groaned, clutching my head as my head filled with loud ringing. "I-I'm fine...d-don't worry..."
I stretched myself out, wincing and groaning weakly at the aching pain that shot through my body. As I opened my eyes I could see the giant hole in the roof I'd fallen through.
Nightmare was leaning over the edge, his tentacles wrapped around the remains of the doorframe as he looked down at me worryingly. "I-I'll come down to you with the kids!"
"Cross?"
I jolted, looking to my side to see Ink, Error, Gradient and Pj. "Oh, uh...hi."
"Did you just fall through the ceiling?!"
"Yeah..." I forced myself to my feet, groaning in pain as I looked back up at Nightmare. "Don't worry about coming down to me! Ink, Error and their kids are here. I'll just stick with them okay? You continue looking around upstairs."
Nightmare clearly didn't want to agree with my order, but he nodded, disappearing from sight as he stepped back away from the edge.
"So uh...you good?" Ink asked, holding out a hand for me as he walked over.
"Just bruised I think." I muttered, gladly taking the hand to help me down from the rubble of the ceiling.
"How on earth did you even manage to fall through the floor?" Error asked, looking me up and down like I'd just fell a thousand foot from the sky.
"Well we went into a room with some unstable looking floor and I didn't want any of the kids to go in there since we've already had a few heart attacks over Noah. I'm lighter than Nightmare and almost lighter than my own eldest child so I went out there to check it and then boom! Here we are."
Error rolled his eyes, crossing his arms over his chest. "That was a pretty dumb move."
I nodded, rubbing the back of my skull. "Yeah...I know. I probably should have thought it out better, but I didn't. So I can't really blame anyone but myself really."
Ink snickered. "We thought the whole building was gonna collapse or something."
Gradient gave him an odd look. "I wouldn't snicker over something like that."
Error rolled his eyes, smirking at me. "The memory of walking past a doorway only to be greeted by the sight of you collapsing through the floor will forever be implemented into my mind."
I winced, nodding. "It'll be forever in my mind as well. And not in a good way."
Error laughed before looking around the room we were currently in. "Huh, looks like we're in the security camera room."
I blinked, glancing behind me to see a bunch of screens and control panels. They were covered in dust and had cracks running all over them, but something inside me wondered if they still worked or not.
Error was clearly thinking the same thing because he immediately walked over to them. "Gradient."
"On it."
He didn't even have to finish his sentence before Gradient was by his side, his eyes scanning over all the dusty control panels.
"I might be able to fix these up..." He muttered, opening something up to show a large array of wires. "Oh yay."
I glanced to my side at the large demon dog warily, gulping.
It was full on death glaring me, growling lowly as it slowly stalked towards me, looking like it was about to pounce and tackle me down.
"G-Guys--"
Error looked back at us and immediately walked over, tapping the dog lightly on the head. "Bad dog. Cross is good. He's with us."
I took a few steps back, wincing. "Yeah, please don't kill me."
Error snickered, rubbing the dog under its jaw, resulting in a deep rumbling purr.
"Uh...have you named it yet?"
Error froze, looking up at me. "Actually...I haven't..."
Ink glanced back over at us from where he was with Gradient. "Name him then. Go on. I'm not picky, as long as it's not some horrible bloodthirsty name."
Error narrowed his eyes as he stared at the dog, thinking deeply as he looked it up and down. "Lemme see..."
I rolled my eyes, walking over to Ink and Gradient. "Where's your other kid?"
Ink sighed, glaring at something behind me. "Talking with him..."
I blinked and turned around, raising an 'eyebrow' as I saw Pj stood in the doorway with Fresh, talking happily. "Uh oh."
"Uh oh indeed." Ink muttered, groaning softly. "Out of all the people Pj could have made friends with he chooses a druggie from the nineties."
I snorted, loving the description of Fresh. "Yup. I'm afraid so. And maybe he'll become more than just a friend if they get along well enough."
Ink winced and went to say something, but got cut off abruptly by Error.
"Fluffy!"
We all paused what we were doing and turned slowly to look at Error, blinking. "What?"
He grinned, crouching down next to the demon dog and hugging it, reviving a lick to the face in response. "Fluffy! I'm gonna name it Fluffy!"
I think we all died inside a bit. "Y-You're calling that beast of a demon dog that looks at if it could rip us apart with one swipe Fluffy?!"
Error nodded, smirking. "I think it fits him perfectly."
Ink rolled his eyes, looking back at the computer screens as they flashed to life suddenly. "There's no hope for you, I swear."
Error walked over to us, the dog close by his side. "Thanks Inky."
Gradient stood by us, holding some sort of remote. "So this is the current feed..."
I looked at the screen, blinking as I saw Dust, Blue and their kid shifting through some papers together, seeming fine. Another screen showed Killer and his friend walking into a dark room together, disappearing after that.
"Do you think we could watch footage of...ages ago?" Error asked, glancing at me quickly as he spoke to Gradient.
"Uh, I think so." He messed with some stuff until a menu came up. "These cameras are motion sensored, so luckily we won't have to fast forward back through fifteen years."
I watched nervously, knowing that they wanted to look back at the footage of Nightmares massacre rampage. "M-Maybe it won't work..."
My hopes were crushed as the screen suddenly showed a bunch of humans and monsters in lab coats with clip boards walking around what looked like the main entrance room. They wandered about, occasionally chatting to one another as they worked, seeming happy.
"Uh god..." Ink whispered, his eyes widening as the footage showed one of the walls suddenly bursting apart, bricks and rubble flying everywhere. At least ten of the workers got hit by the flying rubble and fell down to the floor, going limp after that. A figure stumbled through the new gaping hole in the wall, clutching their head. You didn't even need to look twice to know it was Nightmare. He looked around, grinning before lashing out his tentacles, stabbing down around half of the workers left standing. The rest fell down, screaming as they tried to scramble out of the way. A few of them were picked up by the tentacles before being slammed back down onto the floor, ceiling or wall until their bodies stopped moving.
I looked down at my feet, not wanting to see any more.
Ink winced, glancing at me before muttering at Gradient to turn the thing off.
The screen went black once more and I flinched, glancing to the side as Error looked behind us. "Inky lets check this room. We haven't searched it yet."
Ink glanced at me before nodding, sighing as he walked off with Error into the room next to the one we were currently in, taking the dog and kids along with him.
I stayed put, staring down at my hands as I shuffled from foot to foot, trying to block those images out of my head. Nightmares changed now...I know that...the only reason he'd do something like that again is if something happened to me or the kids...
"C-Cross!"
I blinked, tearing myself out of my thoughts as I heard Error call my name. "Error...?"
"C-Cross come here..."
I looked over at the dark room Error and his family had gone into, blinking. "Uh, okay."
"Q-Quickly!"
I frowned, stepping over to bits of fallen ceiling as I went quickly over to the doorway, feeling slightly wary. "What's wrong...?"
"Y-You just need to come in here..."
I stepped in, looking around. Upon seeing what was in front of me I froze, all the words I wanted to scream being crushed in my throat.
X stood at the end of the room, Ink, Pj and Gradient suspended by magic by his side. They all seemed to be struggling, having the air squeezed out from their non-existent lungs.
"Y-You--"
X grinned, looking me up and down. "I've just made a deal, Crossy~"
I looked over at Error, who seemed incredibly guilty. "H-He said he'd e-either kill them or take you..."
Suddenly everything clicked into place and I full on panicked, stumbling back. "N-No!"
Error walked over to me slowly, his expression darkening as he reached out towards me.
Blue strings wrapped tightly round my body, lifting me up in the air where I thrashed and struggled helplessly, desperately screaming for help.
"NIGHTMARE!! HELP!"
Error winced, looking over at X as he released Ink and their kids. "I'm sorry Cross...but family comes before friends."
