prologue.
[Glitch]
- A person whom breaks the system; a so called virus in society. A plague of the world; the government aims to remove all glitches from the s̶i̶m̶u̶l̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ world.
- Can be identified by; sudden appearance changes, sudden outfit changes, differences in voice pitch, rapid changes in emotion, and any other differences in their average self over a short period of time.
- All glitches must be eliminated.
"Hm.. well, thats interesting." I muttered to myself, closing the leather-bounded book I was holding. The book of laws, it was called. As old as the government itself. I wasn't meant to have it.
The writing was all handwritten, in a scrawled mess along the yellowing pages.
I shouldn't of taken it from my dad. I'm going to get in trouble.
I quickly placed it back in its original hiding spot in my Dads cupboard, before leaving his office, to find him and my Mum sitting around the kitchen table.
"Morning sweetie! How'd you sleep?" My mother asked, looking to me with a smile as she pushed a plate of pancakes towards me.
"Alright, I suppose. I've got a killer headache though.. must just be dehydrated or something." I grumbled.
"We've got some painkillers in the bathroom. I'll go get you some." My mother smiled, rushing off.
"I like what you did with your hair." My dad commented.
"Hm?" I questioned.
"You gave yourself bangs. It's nice." He explained.
I felt at my forehead, feeling hair curling down.
When did those appear. "Oh yeah I did.. do they look alright?" I asked.
"They look nice. Well done. You cut them yourself?" He questioned.
"Yeah. Saw it in a video, wanted to try something different." I said, shrugging.
"Hm.." My dad hummed, turning back to his newspaper.
My mum came back, two pills in her hand. "Here you go. It should help." She smiled, before placing a hand against my head.
"You're burning up.. do you want to stay home today?" She asked, looking at me with worried eyes.
"I'll be alright.." I said, standing up, before I felt my head go light, my hands grasping for the chair.
"Never mind, I'll stay here." I said, my legs shaking.
"I think that's for the best. I'll help you to your room." My mum said, grasping my hand as she led me down the hall.
As soon as I got to my room, I lay straight in bed, letting my eyes shut, and my mind wander.
When I woke up, I looked at my bedside clock. School would have ended.
Besides knowing that, I wandered to the bathroom, to wash my face.
I felt all weird.
When I looked in the mirror, I almost fainted again, my hand gripping at the sink.
My eyes flashed blue, to green, to hazel to a deep brown, before returning to their normal shade.
My bangs which had appeared this morning had receded, returning my hair back to normal.
What the hell was happening to me?
One thing I knew for sure, was that I couldn't ask my dad.
He worked in the government. Plus, from what I read in the old book I found, I don't think he'd take lightly to what was happening to me.
I don't get it. How could I 'glitch' when I'm a physical being? I'm not a computer object.
Although... the book was written in old cursive scrawls.. I'm sure things were scribbled out...
Just maybe, the world isn't as real as I thought.
Rushing back to my room, I grabbed my phone, FaceTiming the one person I trusted.
"Oh Y/N! Where were you today? I was worried sick!" Changbin exclaimed, looking at me worriedly.
"I just didn't feel well.. hey, your mum works in the government, right? Has she ever told you about.. glitches?" I asked.
"Yeah, but it sounds more like a fairy tale. Glitches were supposed plagues of the society which spread rumours about the world, turning people against one another, whilst killing along the way. Why?" Changbin asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Well, you see.. one of the things that happens to them is well, appearance change... I woke up with bangs." I said, glancing to the side of my phone at the mirror at the end of my bed.
"Then where are they now? You cut them yourself, you must've forgotten, I'm sure. There's no such things as glitches. They would be documented."
"They disappeared, and not too long ago I witnessed my eyes changing colour.. Changbin, I think somethings happening to me.." I said quietly.
"Can you come over right now? Let's talk in person." Changbin said, as I saw him step into his bedroom.
"I'll sneak out." I said, opening my window just enough so I could escape.
"Y/N, whatever it is, I'll help you, alright? Me and the boys if you need." Changbin said.
"I just need your help. I trust you."
Then I felt hair grow from my fringe, as my phone began to beep.
"What the.." I heard Changbin exclaim, as sirens began sounding through my suburb, my phone screeching loudly.
I heard cars arrive outside my house.
"Y/N L/N, YOU ARE UNDER ARREST." A voice rang out from the front.
I dropped my phone, dashing through the woods at the back of my house, as gunshots followed behind me.
My breathing was shallow as I ran, becoming harder and harder with every step.
I felt like crying.
But at the same time, I wanted to scream.
Eventually I came to a stop outside a large wooden cabin, half broken, but I knew it would do.
I wandered inside, looking around.
The kitchen had an old phone.
I picked it up, dialling a number, praying it would connect.
"Hello, this is Changbin speaking." The voice said.
"I need your help.. they're going to kill me.."
