epilogue
In another life, they'll meet again.
Jennie Kim was known only to study and work for the first twenty-four years of her life. It was as if, nothing else was ever known to her. While her parents and younger brother constantly told her to balance her work and personal life, it never worked out.
Love was something she hadn't introduced herself to yet, not even a fling and out of all the minor crushes she had, no action still took place.
And as far as friendship goes, she was close to only one person, Lalisa Manoban, her best friend since second grade.
"Jennie, I am so glad I finally got you out of your apron and restaurant and brought you here. This means the absolute world to me," the Thai girl sang as they both entered a grand party hosted by another friend of hers, Kim Jisoo.
Working as a famous chef with multiple private clients and owning a whole restaurant alone made Jennie almost invisible to her friend circle. She couldn't recognise half of the people that were present there, despite the fact that most of them attended the same college as her.
She sighed as she grabbed a drink from the table, and followed her best friend. "The to-do list for today tells me that you need to find a guy you're interested in," Lisa told her, seriously, even more, serious than the way she took her career.
The brunette just rolled her eyes, as if that was possible. Lisa always dragged her to events saying the same thing, and it never worked out. Either the guy was just an overconfident brat or he was too nervous to speak to her. She wasn't a fan of either.
As time passed slowly, Lisa slowly drifted more towards the dance floor, with her boyfriend Ten, who she cherished too much and the other friends they had. Jennie however, stood at the same place, scrolling through her phone and sipping on her drink quietly.
She had almost come up with an excuse to leave the event when her eyes fell on a guy who was standing with Aran Manoban, Lisa's brother as they both laughed joyfully.
He had jet-black hair, covering his entire forehead and reaching up to his eyes, a tall and broad figure and a face that would make any model feel embarrassed for his own. His eyes spoke themselves, and the way his smile looked from a distance, was insane.
Since when did Jisoo have such charming friends, she thought. What she didn't realise was that she had been staring a bit too obviously. It only halted when she saw that he too was looking back at her.
Fuck
The embarrassment was a bit too much for her to handle, so she quickly started walking towards the exit. But then, a voice called out, "Hey darling, listen up."
That voice was deep enough for Jennie to stop at her place, and process everything that was happening. How could someone look and sound this good at the same time?
As she slowly turned back to face him, he had already walked closer. But upon a closer look, while he looked even more wonderful as if God had sculpted his face with his own hands, Jennie couldn't help but feel a pit of uneasiness in her stomach. Had she seen him before? He looked familiar...
"Damn, you look familiar, as if I have seen you before," the guy mumbled, taken aback. The female's eyes widened at the statement, thinking the same thing, but just when she was about to speak, the man continued, "Right, you're the one who appears in my dreams every night. My future girlfriend, aren't you?"
The pit of uneasiness died as quickly as it came, and Jennie snorted, "How many girls have you said that to before?"
The man was quick to shrug his broad shoulders, "None, actually. It was in fact my first attempt at flirting, seems like your beauty did wonders to my speech."
"Woah, calm down, sir. I'm not believing that," the brunette replied, chuckling. There's no way this guy was serious. "One thing you have to believe is that we indeed look made for each other," the male murmured, he wasn't actually serious, just enjoying the scene.
However, the female looked so flustered, that he was quick to say, "I'm sorry if this made you uncomfortable, I'm just joking. I would never actually mean it to someone that quick."
"I know, I can tell. I'm Jennie Kim, by the way. I own an Italian restaurant. How about you?" Jennie asked, as she slowly started feeling more comfortable in his presence. She usually doesn't let her guard down, had she really met this guy before?
From the other corner of the room, Lisa and Ten were staring at this new friendship, squealing that some action was finally taking place.
The guy cooed at her introduction, finding her really cute, "I am a detective, I work at a criminal branch."
"Alright, that's very different, I would say," Jennie chuckled, "I definitely enjoy your company and would love to talk more, but the clock is striking seven, I need to go, I have a meeting."
As she turned her back and started to walk, she heard his footsteps following her, and then he asked "Can I have your number?"
She turned back, and crossed her arms, almost laughing at the courage this man had, and just how blunt he was, "I didn't even catch your name though."
"Taehyung. Kim Taehyung."
In another life, they met again.
