3 | PEOPLE LIE CUZ' TRUTH IS TOXIC
author's note: I am sorry for the irregular updates but the whole antagonist planning thing was sucking my brain and now that I have decided it, I will try to update fast. Also here is a long-ass chapter
"She was poisoned as well"
Jennie's eyes widened before she took the papers in her own hands. "Taehyung... they found poison and alcohol samples in her blood... that means, the murderer had poisoned her drink. The one who offered her the drink would be the guilty one. I think, at least."
Taehyung nodded, even though he thought it won't be as simple as that, he didn't argue. "Jennie, we should start questioning everyone present at the wedding. From guests to the servers and securities there. Every single person."
"Get this autopsy report photocopy, and then we can head over to the hotel. Also inform the policemen, that we want to question everyone, and that means, anyone who was present at the venue should not leave Barcelona." Jennie said, which obviously sounded like an order to their assistant, Choi Chaeryeon
"How about the body though?" Taehyung asked her, typing something in his OnePlus, as Jennie fixed the collar of her jacket, "Nothing, just the cut wrist. No scars or bullets signs, of course."

The giant chandelier hung from the wall, the huge orange lights illuminated the whole room but only a handful of people could be spotted. A small 'cling' sound ruffled in the silent room, grabbing everyone's attention. The detective pair walked in from the lift, as everyone stood up, eager to meet them. Jennie scanned the room and the faces, the Manobans, Jisoo and the Lee siblings.
"Mr and Ms Kim, you are here," David Manoban said, the last part coming out as a rather whisper. The duo smiled sympathetically, as they shook their hands with the elderly man. Ireshi Manoban, his wife followed as well, slowly tugging on his sleeve. "Did you found anything?"
"We did... Your daughter, Lisa was poisoned as well..." Taehyung replied, as everyone present in the room were taken aback. Aran moved from the couch, "Poisoned? but... how?"
"They found alcohol in her blood, and it was poisoned," Jennie said, emphasising the words very boldly even though her eyes expressed sorrow. Everyone hung their head down, and from the corner of his eyes, Taehyung could spot a big fat tear rolling down Jisoo's cheek.
After a few minutes of silence, Taehyung said, "It's just four pm right now, we want to question all of you, and the others, who were present at the wedding as well. If this questioning hour is done by tonight, you can easily hold the funeral tomorrow without any problem."
Aran's facial expression changed the very minute Taehyung finished his statement, "Why do you have to question us? It's not like we murdered Lis. Can we just stay in peace?" Jennie felt her forehead crease, this sounds way too suspicious. "Mr Manoban, we never said that you killed Lisa. We just want to ask some simple questions, and as detectives, we have the right to question anyone. Family members or not"

The wind flew by and the weather only seemed to get worsen, the terrace was lit with several candles but no one would enjoy their beauty. Taehyung and Jennie sat on the huge lavender couch near the railing as they set the recorder on the table, waiting for the first person to arrive.
Jennie looked at her watch, 4:45 pm, the policemen and the first person would be up anytime. And so they were, the terrace gate opened as the Manoban couple walked in, followed by two policemen who looked like they were in their early 30s and wore the "BARCELONA POLICE" badge.
Immediately turning on the recorder, the Manobans took a seat in front of them, shifting uncomfortably and the first thing Jennie noticed was Ireshi Manoban's puffy eyes. Without further ado, Taehyung asked the first question, "Mrs Manoban, did you see Lisa drinking any alcohol on the day of her wedding? If yes, who served it to her?"
"I am sorry, but I wasn't allowed in Lisa's dress-up room. Jisoo asked me to get ready separately and only look at Lisa when she was ready. I had no idea what was happening there," Ireshi replied, her voice coming out as a rather crack. Jennie immediately noted the main points down, signalling Taehyung to ask further.
Taehyung poked his cheek with his tongue, "Do you know anyone who hated Lisa, or had bad amends with her?" David thought for a minute, but then shaking his head, "Nope. Lisa was good friends with everyone. Even if she had an enemy, we have no idea because we never invaded our daughter's private life. I am sure Jisoo can answer that question though."
Jennie whispered in Taehyung's ear, "Tae, I don't think they know anything. Aran and Jisoo might be a better help in this case, because they actually seem close to Lisa. These folks only know money and not their daughter." Taehyung nodded, reading one of the policemen's badge, "Mr Darren, please escort the Manobans to their room and bring Jisoo upstairs"
Taehyung threw his head back once the Manobans left, "They seriously don't know anything about their own daughter. In every case we have tackled, the parents are always the biggest help and here they are just answering with, "we don't know," like seriously."
"It's okay," Jennie whispered, before turning the page and writing Jisoo's name on it, as their friend, Kim Jisoo slowly entered the scene. Jisoo looked worse than Ireshi, her eyes looked like she had never stopped crying, her appearance was a huge mess and she looked really uneasy. The duo gave her a minute to relax before Taehyung started asking
"Jisoo, for how long have you and Lisa been friends?"
Jisoo didn't think twice before answering, "13 years. We met in school and even after we changed universities, we continued to be the closest friends." Taehyung then asked her, "Thirteen years is a lot... You must know if Lisa was on bad terms with anyone?"
Jisoo fell into deep thoughts, probably remembering stuff, "Of course there were people who didn't like Lisa, but no one ever had such a hatred for her. The last time I saw her had a terrible fight with someone was in ninth grade, and it has been really long since that happened."
"Jisoo, if someone didn't hate Lisa, why would she be murdered? Doesn't make sense to us," Jennie said, ceasing her arm on the armrest. Jisoo took a small breath, "I know...but I really cannot recall anyone...who hated Lisa so much that they will...murder her."
"Okay... Did Lisa had any fight with anyone before the wedding... Like even a small argument? Sometimes people lose temper even on small arguments," Taehyung asked next, trying to retrieve information. "No, she didn't," Jisoo responded shortly
Jennie sighed, staring at the blank paper. Taehyung too felt a bit frustrated with how Jisoo was not helping either, "Jisoo, did someone serve Lisa alcohol on the wedding day?"
Fixing the hem of the dress, as the corner of Jisoo's mouth twitched, "Lisa was having a glass of champagne when her hair was being styled, but no one served it to her. The glass and bottle were already kept on a table in her room. She was already tired and so she just took it"
Finally some useful information, Jennie thought before scribbling the notes. Taehyung sat straight, chugging down a glass of water before continuing, "If I haven't heard wrong, you were the first person who spotted Lisa's dead body. Explain the whole scenario, please?" Jisoo closed her eyes, remembering that very scene
"I just went to check up on Lisa's mom, because I saw her crying in the car. I was there for five minutes, and I was feeling dizzy. I wanted to wash my face, but when I opened the bathroom door... I saw her there... I saw my best friend dead. There was no one around and she was bleeding so much. The next thing I remember was breaking into tears and shouting for help."
As Jennie finished writing, Taehyung felt that even if Jisoo could tell them a lot, she wasn't really being helpful. "Thanks for the help Jisoo. Mr Darren, please escort her back and send Aran Manoban upstairs," Jennie said, before turning the pages.
Jennie and Taehyung weren't really thrilled to ask him, and they already have a gut feeling that Aran won't be the most polite person they would question during this case. As Aran took his entry and sat on the couch, his facial expression said...nothing. Cold eyes, not puffy or swollen up. He stared at the duo as if he wanted to get out of here. Jennie swallowed, as Taehyung started asking
"How was your bond with Lisa?"
Aran's reply was as cold as his eyes, "Wonderful." Jennie's eye-rolled at the one-word answer as Taehyung had a sudden urge to shout at him, but of course, he didn't. "Do you have anyone in mind who can hurt Lisa?"
"No. Why will anyone hurt an angel like her?" Aran said, still expressionless. Jennie this time felt the frustration getting too much, "If she really was an angel, why would she be even murdered? People would be worshipping her instead of killing her."
"Are you trying to say that my sister was a bad person?" Aran asked, raising his voice. "Mr Manoban, if you want to reply, then please say it nicely and try to give us some actual information. You are not being helpful," Taehyung said, holding Jennie's hand underneath the table as he tried to calm her down.
"I am sorry, but I don't know how I can give you some information. All my life, I have known that Lisa was a wonderful person and I clearly don't know anyone who would hurt her," Aran said, his eyes finally showing some emotions, the emotion of rage. "How was Lisa's relationship with Jisoo?" Jennie asked, shoving her hair backwards.
Aran crossed his arms, "Jisoo was the only middle-class girl Lisa actually liked, and so did our family. They had a close bond, and Jisoo managed to win our hearts as well. She was like a family member and knew almost everything about us."
"How was Lisa's relationship with Ten?" Taehyung asked while Jennie continued to write. Aran responded in a jiffy, "At the start, we thought they were rushing, but when we actually met him and saw them together, they were really in love. I never had a chance to meet him a lot, but I was already ensured that he will keep my sister happy."
"Thank you for the information Mr Manoban. We want to see Mrs Juliana and Mr Karl now," Jennie said, taking a glass of water, as the officer accompanied Aran. Juliana was one of the makeup artists for Lisa while Karl worked as a waiter.
Juliana felt like the most nervous out of everyone they had interrogated so far. Her hands were shaking and beads of sweats formed on her forehead while Karl seemed nervous too. They probably never were included in an investigation process. Jennie's first instinct was to calm them down but Taehyung left no space for that as he started questioning, "Juliana, you were with Lisa the whole time with your other colleagues. What happened inside, can we get a whole explanation?"
The female with long chestnut hair swallowed, "Yes... We entered the room, and for an hour, everything was simple. Then, Lisa spotted a champagne bottle on the table, and she drank a whole glass. Things continued to be simple but then Jisoo said she wanted to check up on the Manobans. That time, Lisa started feeling nauseous and said she wanted to go to the bathroom. We couldn't argue."
Taehyung nodded, "Mr Karl, you were the only waiter allowed to go upstairs. Anything to say?"
"Yes sir. I only went upstairs once, to serve some juices and snacks, but not in Lisa ma'am's room. Only the family room. I served the Lees and the Manobans, and the tray was empty. I went to grab some more for Lisa ma'am and her artists but by the time I came back upstairs, she was dead."
"Thank you for the information," Jennie said as she asked the police officer to send Ten Lee up this time.
Ten was the next to be interrogated as Taehyung asked the first question, "You and Lisa only had been in a relationship for three months. Don't you think you rushed up the proposal?"
Ten fidgeted his fingers, "I wanted this wedding to happen as soon as possible. There is a reason... I have an ex-girlfriend, we dated for eight months... and then she left... I didn't want to lose Lisa the same way, and so I proposed... Thankfully, she felt the same and accepted the proposal."
"Note down everything he said," Taehyung whispered in Jennie's ear as she immediately followed. "How was Lisa's relationship with her family and friends?" Taehyung asked, hoping that Lisa would have told him everything.
Ten thought for a minute or two before framing his answer, "Lisa loved her parents. They gave her complete freedom and got her everything she asked for. She never had a grudge against them. About Aran, he was a protective brother but still loved her. They used to have multiple arguments but it's normal for siblings. About her friends, Lissie didn't have many friends. She was only allowed to be friends with the rich, minus Jisoo though. The other friends she had weren't so close. Just Jisoo, and two to three others who couldn't make it to the wedding."
Taehyung mouthed a-okay, as he questioned, "Did the victim had any fights with anyone before the wedding?" Ten bit his lip apprehensively before answering, "Yeah... She and Jisoo had a huge fight, a month before the wedding."
Jennie and Taehyung's eyes immediately met, Jisoo didn't mention anything like this. Jennie started jotting down the points, as Taehyung asked, "What fight? Any details?"
Ten nodded, "Lisa came crying to me and she narrated it all. Jisoo wasn't really happy with the idea of us getting married so quick. She told Lisa that she is making a wrong decision and shouldn't marry me. Jisoo lectured Lisa for like an hour and then Lisa told me that, she said some harsh words to Jisoo and she regretted them then. They didn't conversate for a week but then Jisoo had to accept us eventually."
