22 | THE MOON CRIES BRIGHTLY IN THE SKY

Before he could analyse every single thing, Taehyung walked towards the final door, which he assumed to be the bathroom. Once again keeping his guard up before opening it, he slowly opened it. And then, the view he had in front of him wasn't so stunning. Scratch that, it was horrifying, to say the least.

In that bathroom, with creaking walls full of cracks and a small orange lightbulb hanging from the ceiling, a man lied in the bathtub, his entire body almost drowned inside it as the only part above water was his face. As dismay to any expectations, there was no blood anywhere near the body, but his eyes were closed and some parts of the skin had turned blue.

The man was dead

That very moment, frustration was quick to boil inside the pit of Taehyung's stomach, as he walked closer, before checking his pulse by keeping his fingertips on the wrist of the corpse. "He is dead," he quietly announced as he turned towards the two policemen while speaking with a low voice, "Take his body, and within some hours I want every single detail you can squeeze about this man along with the medical reports. Also, make sure to get each and everything here examined."

Following the detective's orders, the two policemen called for the entire team inside— other men from the police forces, the medical staff, some photographers and other staff. Within the next five minutes, everything was being sealed, scrutinized and captured by the huge black cameras. Mr Anchalia walked towards Taehyung, his grey blazer now hanging by his arm, "Mr Kim, there is nothing much for you to see or take here. Everything will be forwarded to you the minute we get a hand on the reports. It is best for you to go to the hotel, and do the rest of the work from there."

Taehyung smoothy denied the offer, despite feeling the tiredness roaming within him, "Thank you, Mr Anchalia, but I would like to stay here for some more time. After all, this is my case and letting the entire teamwork here, while I am in the luxury of a hotel, doesn't sound so nice. Please excuse me, I need to make a call."

Once again stepping on the gravelled road outside, Taehyung dialled Jennie's number, forgetting the difference between the time zones and only realising it when it took a while for her to pick up. "Hey, how is it going? Did you find anything?" Jennie softly asked, and from the tone, Taehyung could figure out she was asleep.

"Sorry for disturbing your sleep," Taehyung apologised quickly before rushing his response, "We found many things, but they're of no use, considering that we lost the fucking man. He was literally dead by the time we reached here."

Taehyung could hear the gasp from the other end of the call, before Jennie responded back, "You have to be kidding me, there is no way you're serious. How can he die? Did you trace footsteps? Possibly, someone murdered him too?"

Taehyung sighed, "No, there is only one set of footsteps and we're positive that it belongs to this dead guy only. There was no blood anywhere either, nor any cut on the victim's body. Can be either poison or suicide.

Muttering a chat to Gods, Jennie spoke with an annoyed tone, "This is literally sick, but wait, is this person the one who killed Lisa? Who was he? Do you have any details about him?"

"Calm down, I know this is frustrating but it ain't in our hands," Taehyung spoke calmly, "They have just started finding out every single detail, and the reports. I would get them within two to three hours, and I will immediately mail them to you. We can discuss them then."

And so, saying a small bye, Taehyung hanged up. His gaze once again struck at the moon which was slowly being covered by small clouds. A chilling gush of wind suddenly passed by, making him shiver. Maybe, he should have just accepted Mr Anchalia's offer, and with that thought, he walked towards the car.

It was five am, an insanely hectic day but still, Taehyung couldn't close his eyes, despite having the freedom to do so for three hours.  At the crack of dawn, a notification ringed, suddenly bringing Taehyung out of his thoughts. Four reports were mailed to him— all by Mr Anchalia with each having information about the dead man. At the very same minute, the detective forwarded all of them to Jennie and then quickly called her through facetime.

It did not take more than five minutes for both of them to be on a call line, opening the documents on their MacBooks, as Jennie read the lines from the very first one, "The name of the person was Chayan Saetang. Twenty-two years old and comes from a middle-class family. Was born and grew up in the town of Kalasin, Thailand. Left school when he was in tenth grade and ran away from home at age of seventeen."

"His mother died in the year 2000, and his father is a cobbler. Chayan had one sibling— Kamlai Saetang, who works as a teacher in Suthep city now. And for the past seven months, no one saw him regularly, which means he spent the last seven months of his life in that bunker," Taehyung continued

Jennie pushed a strand of her hair back, fixing the creases on her purple shirt before reading further, but as she read, the tone of her voice kept changing from calm to astonishment and fear, "He was suffering from the psychotic disorder, where people lose some contact with reality. This might involve seeing or hearing things that other people cannot see or hear and believing things that are not actually true."

"Gosh," Taehyung whispered under his breath, before speaking, "This disorder means you will process the world around you differently, compared to others. It can be caused due to a physical injury or illness, substance abuse, or extreme stress or trauma."

Heaving a sigh, before opening the second document about the medical report, the gorgeous brown eyes of the female detective widened in shock as she read, "The cause of death is an overdose of insulin. It caused hypoglycemia, which means low blood sugar, which can cause death. I swear to God, I signed up to be a detective, not a doctor. "

Taehyung leaned forward, his mouth open wide as there was a dull facial expression taking over, and after two minutes, he finally spoke, "That is why there were so many injections kept there. He injected insulin into himself daily, because he was suffering from diabetes too, and required insulin. God, this is so messed up."

"The third report says that Chayan has never even seen Cambodia or Laos, forget Spain. Lisa was clearly not murdered by his hands," Jennie said, comprehending the huge paragraph written in the third report.

Reading the very same words from his device on the other end, Taehyung fidgeted his fingers, "Also, this means Chayan doesn't even know Lisa directly, considering that Lisa was born and raised in Seoul, and only stayed in Bangkok whenever she came to Thailand. Someone must have hired Chayan."

The male detective was looking forward to hearing his partner's response on that, but then out of the blue, Jennie spoke "Tae, wait for a minute. The Jeons are spamming me with texts, and asking us to open the TV and check the news."

Scrunching his nose, in utter confusion since the Jeons texting them was just as clear as "mud." Jennie too appeared perplexed, but after seeing Taehyung nod, she kept her laptop in a position from which the television was visible and proceeded to open the news channel.

"You're watching WIS Korea, and I am your anchor, Kang Mirae, and it is just seven am in the morning, and we're already greeted by a piece of horrifying news. Min Sanya, our beloved and world-famous actress had a terrible accident, that has lead to the actress being in coma. She was shooting for her drama in Canada, and everything was going just fine until night came, and the actress was driving alone. The vehicle she was in flipped over on the expressway, due to some brakes failure. Doctors say that it is severe, can take at least four weeks or months for her to recover."

author's note: I am extremely sorry for the delay, but things have been extremely terrible for me over the past week. I cannot reveal what they're but it has been hard for me, and I hope you understand and forgive me for the delay.

Also, someone I followed tweeted yesterday that authors can write anything and because it's fiction mostly, it always works. Like, what the fuck do you mean 😭
