13.2 | NIGHTMARES DRESSED LIKE DAYDREAMS

"I wanted to make a request."

The first instinct was to look at each other, as the detectives communicated with their facial expressions, confused about what the older woman could possibly ask for. Jennie kept her hand on the other one, before asking, "Please continue."

Ireshi slowly shifted on her seat, tucking one of her hair strands behind her ear. "As you know we finally reached the first spot after going through such a bad time. I wanted to request you to keep things secret about Lisa's case," she said, her husky voice sounding sultry as if it was difficult for her to say it.

"Secret as in?" Taehyung asked. The older woman traced some lines on her silk saree, "Do not make any statements to the public. The news about the case may affect our reputation, please try to understand."

When the detectives didn't look convinced, she continued to speak, "The media is really sick, one small news, and they make a fuss about it. Our clients will start doubting if our company is good, and will stop investing in our empire. It will be a massive downfall of the jewellery empire which took thirty-seven years to build. This is more than a business. It's the pride of Thailand, the representation of South Korea, and the beauty of diamonds from Africa. I hope you're understanding what I'm saying."

"But the public asks for statements. Mrs Manoban, this is a public case, about a well-known figure. Our tweets, emails, messages are all filled with people and reporters asking us about the process. It's really hard to keep it low," Taehyung argued

Ireshi looked at them in hysteria, acting gloomy, "Are you seeing this room? It takes five million dollars every year, just to maintain this. If any major loss happens to our company, we'll go homeless. Do you know how hard it is to run a business, so huge? One controversy, all your stocks go down, your clients leave and you're left with debt."

Taehyung smiled, sarcastically, "Mrs Manoban, you're not the only one with a reputation in this room. We both too are known as the best detectives, and all our cases to date have been talked about in public. If we suddenly stop, people will assume we're slowly failing this case."

Ireshi was about to speak, but Jennie immediately interrupted, "Okay we will try our level best to keep it low. Anything else?" The older woman nodded, "Please keep updating us about how the case is going on, by sending daily reports to my secretary, Haeseun."

"Okay, we'll do so. Thank you for inviting us, and now we'll head downstairs, if you permit," Jennie spoke. The businesswoman nodded, as the duo bowed before exiting the room.  The minute the doors of the lift closed, Taehyung grabbed Jennie by the wrist, pulling her towards his direction as she stared in shock.

He looked furious, with a mixture of uncertainty in his eyes, "What the fuck was that? You just agreed to her nonsense demands." Jennie sighed, as if she was already ready for this reaction, "Calm down."

"No, I can't calm down. What was that? Now we need to confirm what we need to do with her secretary? Are we kids Jennie? We are fucking 25. She just wants to get control over our investigation and you agreed to it," he argued, not letting go of the tight grip he held over her wrist.

Shrugging her shoulders, the female explained, "I said we will try. Who the hell would work her way? Also, you need to chill. We need to keep it down. Let's just do our job and get out of this hell."

Through his gritted teeth, after finally letting go of her wrist, Taehyung mumbled, "I really want to go in there and tell her that bitch investigate your daughter's case yourself because I ain't your slave."

The doors of the metallic lifts sliced open, as the two detectives stepped into the huge hallway which was covered with the most beautiful ornaments and accessories. It radiated the vibe of a European ballroom, in the late 70s with everyone dressed in most perfect brands, as the tall glasses filled with champagne were raised in the air. The sudden buzzing of cameras started, as the huge doors once again opened, inviting many screams and whispers.

"Who is it?" Jennie asked, not able to get a glimpse of who everyone was suddenly talking about. Taking advantage of his tall height, Taehyung snickered, "The Jeon siblings, the ones who own the entire Jeon fashion line, the biggest in Asia. They also got a small name in the jewellery sector when they released their accessory line."

When the ways were finally cleared, Jennie could get a clear view of who Taehyung was mentioning. Jeon Jungkook, along with his sister Jeon Somi walked lavishly inside the room, both wearing green outfits. Jungkook's hair were parted from the right, his tattooed hands shoved in his pockets as he walked, ignoring the attention from the girls, but stopping for a minute to smile at the camera.

Jennie leaned towards Taehyung, "His smile is so fake. I can see the anger in his eyes. He is pissed that the Jeons became second." Taehyung nodded, in full agreement, "Well that's natural. We need to talk to this Jeon guy. He is one of the people Lisa was fighting a lot in the university, and considering that Lisa was going to be the heir of this jewellery business, she was a business rival too."

With another hour passing away, with strong music playing, the Manobans making random speeches here and there, and huge chattering, Taehyung approached Jennie who was having a  conversation with a friend. Whispering in her ear, "Jennie, we need to talk to Jungkook."

"We need to wait for that. He is very occupied attending to every single lady in the room," the brunette replied. Taehyung pointed towards the bar where he was sitting, "Well there is an easy way out. Go to the bar and pretend like you are drinking. When he comes near you know what to do."

Nodding and then confidently walking towards the minibar which was set in the huge hallway, Jennie approached the bartender, who fortunately was standing near the stool where Jungkook was sitting.

"One Barcadi shot please," she requested and as the bartender turned his back to make the drink, Jungkook commented, "That's really strong. Are you sure you can take it? Many people cannot even swallow it."

Jennie turned towards him, "I know what I can handle. Thanks for your concern."

He snickered, "In that case, I would love to see you take a shot of it." Keeping firm eye contact with him, Jennie took an immediate short, without any problem. Even though it tasted bitter, Jennie was used to it. She had spent hours in bars, crying about her problems and had tasted all the strongest drinks.

"Well, your request has been satisfied. Now its my turn," Jennie said, placing the glass on the counter before passing a small glare to the bartender, signalling him to move away for some time. Jungkook walked closer, "What can I do for you?"

Smiling, the female detective placed her hand on the counter, "Just answer some of my questions. What was your relation with miss Lalisa manoban?"

"Oh, this is why I thought I saw you somewhere. You are the detective hired for the bitch's case," Jungkook chuckled but when Jennie continued to glare at him, he knew he had to answer. "If you want to give it a cringe title, then I was her enemy," he spoke, "she was such a trouble maker, trying to manipulate and ruin everyone's life. This is why I had some fights with her."

Jennie nodded, stealing a glance at Taehyung who was standing in the corner, staring at them. "Hmm, well, what about Sanya? Was she your friend?"

Stiffening, he beamed a playful smile, "You took one shot and I answered one of your questions. I play fair, and now if you excuse me, my sister must be looking for me. I hope to see you soon." And with that, he walked towards the crowd, as Jennie stood there, irritated.

Taehyung neared her, the minute Jungkook left, "how did it go?" Jennie shook her head in dismay, " I just got an answer that we already knew. That he is Lisa's enemy and she was a trouble maker in university who liked to hurt others."

Taehyung was about to speak, but a sudden interruption rang out loud. On the stage, stood the Manoban couple, Ireshi and David, as the man held a mic. Everyone gathered around the stage, leaving the other corners empty. Aran stood in one corner of the stage, smiling as David started to speak.

"I would first like to thank all of you, for taking our time and attending this grand celebration. Thank you for giving Manoban Jewellers the love for the past thirty-seven years. I, David and my wife, Ireshi have handled this business for almost twenty years now. I remember my father and mother, standing on a very similar stage, announcing that they're handing the business to me and my wife. Today, I am feeling the very same pride, I am so proud to announce that from today, Aran won't be just a part of the Manoban family, but the CEO of the Manoban Jewellery business."

The crowd broke into chatters, loud ones. Jennie and Taehyung looked at each other in utter shock... Lisa was the actual supposed heiress of the business, and just a few weeks after her death, the Manobans are handing over the business to Aran.

Ireshi cleared his throat, calling Aran towards her, who happily approached, "Aran has always been more interested in this company, he always kept the records of everything. David might have been the CEO for the past five years by the label, but he was the one working on everything. My son deserves this position. Only him, because no one else because he saw this company as his dream, and so today, I would like to give it to him. He will get the title of the youngest CEO in the country, just at the age of twenty-four. He will carry on the legacy of our family, our empire. Good luck son, I'm so proud of you."

Aran got a hold of the mic, first giving a small hug to parents, and then speaking. The Manoban couple exited the stage, not wanting to share the spotlight. Aran smiled, a very true one, "Mom and dad, thank you for this. Thank you for trusting me with the name of our family. I promise that I will work hard, day and night to make sure, no other company can replace us. But before I take over, I have a surprise as well."

Jennie and Taehyung once again stared at each other, was this some surprise festival, where the one with the most shocking surprise gets the award?

"I was born in luxury, and lived all my life in it, and will continue to live it. I have the best parents in the entire world. I got the whole business under my name now, and I am so grateful that I have so many wonderful things, but mom and dad, don't you think an heir is incomplete without his heiress?" he spoke, but the speech didn't matter at the moment.

The detective duo couldn't believe that he invalidated Lisa from his speech.

Aran continued to speak, "You may have guessed it, I lack a love life, and I want to fill it now. I don't want to take over the company alone. Like my grandfather and father did, with their beautiful wives, I want to do it too."

He slowly walked down the stage, the mic still clutched in his hands. It didn't take more time for Jennie and Taehyung to realize what was going to happen as they saw Aran approach the very familiar figure.

Kneeling down on one knee, causing everyone to gasp, Aran took a hold of the female's hand, "So my dear, will you allow your make-up business and our jewellery business to merge into each other. Will you be my heiress? Will you marry me, Kim Jisoo?"

This had to be a complete joke.
