09| HIDDEN DOORS, HIDDEN SECRETS
That same evening, Jennie sat on the couch in the living room downstairs, her laptop shoved away on the side as she stared at the blue ceiling. The night sky had already shadowed around and only an orange lamp was lit in the room, Jennie's half-face reflecting the shade.
The sudden sound of the doorknob twisting echoed through the silent house, pulling Jennie out of her thought. Pretty sure it was Taehyung, after all, no one else could have the key, she switched on the light and closed her eyes for a brief second because of the sudden brightness.
"Hey," Taehyung groggily said, keeping a bunch of keys on a counter as Jennie looked at him with a concerned face, "Hey, what's up with that look?" Taehyung buried his face in his hands for a while before speaking up, "Stressed as hell."
Jennie sighed, "I guess it was a harsh day for both of us," she mumbled. Taehyung kept his jacket on the couch, he could rant about this for the whole day, "I have never been this stressed in my entire life. I feel like someone gave me too much information and now I'm glitching."
"Taehyung, you're not a robot," Jennie scoffed. "I know," he breathed out, chugging down a whole glass of water, "But this case is getting on my nerves. We have no evidence till now, not even a weak one. Moreover, those Manobans messaging me all the time about the case's progress isn't helping either."
Jennie couldn't feel anything but sympathy for him. A speck of guilt started to form inside her, thinking that he was all day out, interrogating people while she sat in the comfort, typing codes in her laptop, "I know. Like I said this murder is planned very well. They knew exactly how to carry out their plan and not fail at it. From poisoning Lisa's drink to messing with the CCTV, they knew exactly how to keep themselves under the covers"
"But as they say, criminals cannot hide for long. One day they are unveiled," Taehyung murmured.
Jennie poked her inner cheek with her tongue, picking up the laptop again as the sound of the keys being clicked faintly accompanied their conversation, "Sure they are. How was the meeting with Ten?"
"Homeboy had a hard time believing that it was his mother behind his breakup," Taehyung replied, keeping his iPad on the centre of the table as he pressed a button, "Listen to the recording of my meeting with Aiza."
It took around twenty minutes for the whole recording to be finished. Several thoughts and theories rambled around and in the middle, Jennie and Taehyung used to look at each other, wondering if they were thinking the same thing. As the recording finally came to an end, Jennie kept her head on one of the cushions, making a dramatic expression and then speaking out.
"Wow, they really are the real-life example of Bollywood film where the rich guy and the middle-class girl are in love. Everything is going great until the rich mom finds out and forces the poor girl to leave her son."
Taehyung chuckled at Jennie's hilarious comparison which he found really correct. He had thought the same as well, "Exactly what I thought once she finished speaking. But honestly, I don't really see Aiza as a suspect."
"Did you check with her agency? Was she really only present on the sets?" Jennie asked recalling Aiza's statement. Taehyung nodded, "I did check all her locations and call records. She was only present at her photoshoot sites."
"Hmmm," Jennie muttered but when she suddenly recalled Aiza's statement about Lisa inviting her to the wedding, she couldn't help but feel uncomfortable. "Taehyung...Don't you think it's weird how Lisa invited Aiza to her wedding?"
Taehyung nodded, "Of course it is. Who would want their fiance's ex-girlfriend at their wedding?" Jennie tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear, "Unless maybe Lisa wanted to meet Aiza. According to what I can comprehend, I don't think Aiza had ever met Lisa. Otherwise, what could possibly be the reason for inviting Aiza?"
Even though Jennie's guess made a lot of sense, Taehyung still felt like what Aiza said had a greater possibility. "Like Aiza said Lisa maybe wanted to show off," he said.
Jennie looked at him with an unsure expression, "Taehyung, Lisa's wedding would have been all over the social media and news. If she really wanted to show off why would she invite Aiza? Also, don't you think if Aiza came to the wedding the media would think that everything is good between Lisa and Azia? I don't think Lisa would want Aiza to get any attention from the media and be in a good light."
"That's so true," Taehyung mumbled realising how much Jennie's words made sense. Lazily he spoke, "Tomorrow when we go to investigate Lisa's penthouse maybe we can find some clues."
Jennie nodded, determined, "I hope we do." She continuously typed some words into her laptop, making Taehyung confused about what she was doing. When he stole a glance at her screen, she was still trying to hack into the number.
"You're still trying to hack huh," he commented as the corner of Jennie's mouth twitched, the feeling of irritation stinging her skin, "I spent hours and hours trying to see who messaged and called Lisa this much, despite being a blocked number. Moreover, I want to know who hacked into my laptop."
He picked his iPad, scrolling through a log as he thought of a suggestion. "The work is slowing down because of you trying to work on this all the time. Why don't you just ask someone to hack it for you?" he proposed.
"But who? We cannot trust anyone," Jennie asked, doubtful about it. It didn't take him long to respond, "Well, what about Rosanne? She has worked with us already and helped us with a lot of hacking stuff. We can trust her and also she is pretty good at hacking."
Jennie stared at Taehyung as if he said the most wonderful thing ever. She couldn't believe that the idea didn't occur in her mind. "I am going to call her right now. It would be only twelve in Sydney, I'm sure she won't be sleeping that early."
"My eyes are betraying me, so I am going to sleep," Taehyung said standing up. Jennie smiled, "I will just give Rosie a call and then leave." He nodded, "Yeah, sure. I will pick you up at nine tomorrow." Saying so, he exited, leaving Jennie alone, who was ready to call Roseanne.
Roseanne was Jennie's best friend who worked as a hacker for Australian agencies. Many times, she used to help her with hacking material when Jennie used to struggle with them. Even though they hadn't talked for a while, Jennie was sure Roseanne won't say a no. Both of them are awfully busy with their lives and there wasn't much space for friendship. Sudden anxiety rose inside Jennie as she dialled the number because the last time Jennie had called her was four months back and for the last two months, she didn't pick up Roseanne's calls. And calling her at twelve am for hacking would sound rude...
"Hello?" Roseanne's voice ringed from the other side. Jennie heaved a sigh, "Hello Rosie."
Jennie could hear a bitter chuckle from Roseanne's side and she was sure what it meant. "Oh my god, you finally remembered about my existence. How are you doing bogus fellow?"
"Rosie! I have been busy that's why I couldn't attend your calls" Jennie whined at the name. Roseanne scoffed, "Very busy it seems. So what favour do you want this time? You always call me when you want something."
While Jennie wanted to deny that and rather talk about Gucci and YSL, there was little to no time to waste. Moreover, whatever Roseanne was saying was kind of true. "Rosie, I need you to retrieve some files that were deleted by the person who hacked my files and then hack into the files to get all the information," Jennie said.
Roseanne couldn't believe her ears, "Wait what? Somebody hacked in your files. Do you know how big of an issue that is, Jennie?" Jennie nodded, forgetting for a second that Roseanne couldn't see her, "I know I am trying to find the person who did it but I can't."
"That's why you need a professional," Roseanne responded. Jennie typed in her laptop, "I am transferring all the files and data in your IP address as well. How quickly can you retrieve the files and find the person who hacked them?"
Roseanne mumbled something to herself as if recalling something and then replied, "That depends on my time and how strongly it was done. I promise I will try to do it as soon as possible."
"Thanks, Rosie. Means a lot to me," Jennie spoke, feeling thankful that despite losing touch Roseanne still was the same. Roseanne giggled, "Girl, I haven't even done anything yet. Have patience and wait until I present you the deleted file and the person who did it. Good night."
"Goodnight," Jennie spoke before hitting hang up.

The following morning, Jennie and Taehyung stood outside a luxury penthouse, painted all white from outside, huge glass panes stuck at the wall, many flower pots arranged in a line as the sunlight reflected the shades from the windowpanes. Several bodyguards stood around, guarding the house boundary with Chaeryeon leaning against her car, typing something in her tablet.
"Goodmorning. I hope no one entered the house yesterday," Taehyung spoke as he and Jennie slipped rubber gloves in their hands. Chaeryeon nodded, "Yes sir, I asked all of them and they all said the same thing. They were present here all night and no one tried to invade the house."
Jennie smiled at how confident it sounded, "Have you been tracking the Manobans?"
Chaeryeon nodded, flashing her screen to both of them, "Totally ma'am. This is a full-time track record of their activities and calls ever since they landed in Seoul."
"Great work Chaeryeon, please mail that to me," Taehyung spoke as Chaeryeon beamed. Taehyung glanced at Jennie, their eyes doing the whole conversation. A bodyguard offered them the key, as they both proceeded to enter the house, but when they did both of their eyes widened.
The furniture was all turned upside down, glass vases were shattered everywhere and everything was misplaced. It looked like some kind of storm had occurred and destroyed half of the things. Jennie's face formed an o-shape as they both stared at the rumpled room. "What the hell is this? Are you sure this is the house of a rich tycoon? Why is this a freaking mess?" Jennie asked, feeling intimidated by the sudden environment.
Taehyung licked off his dry lips, "Well, Ten's sister Sorn told me that he had a breakdown so he broke few things here and there..."
Jennie looked at Taehyung with an expression that said "are-you-serious?" Taehyung nervously raked his hand through his hair, "Not a few actually...a lot...I just didn't ask them to clean anything because I wanted to make sure no evidence gets swept off."
Mouthing a "gosh", they both carefully walked through the shattered glass pieces and then decided to look separate ways. "I will check the kitchen first," Taehyung suggested seeing the kitchen in the first place. "I will check the living room," Jennie spoke as they both parted ways.
In the kitchen, Taehyung searched through the many shelves and cabinets. In the last case they had tacked, they had found a lot of evidence in the kitchen, after all, it was one of the places which people rarely speculated. While searching through one of the drawers, he managed to grab a hold of many fat-reducing pills.
He looked at the many bottles of the same kind of pills, breaking one of the jars to get a grasp of some. "What the hell are all of these? Really how thin did she want to get by eating more of these fat-reducing pills," he mumbled to himself in utter shock.
On the other hand, Jennie searched through the huge living room. Everything was neat and tidy and Jennie had already believed that she won't be finding anything in this room. As she walked outside, Taehyung exited the kitchen too as Jennie approached him. "No luck. Did you find anything?" she asked
"Seven bottles of fat-reducing pills," he answered which made Jennie feel shocked and disgusted at the same time. "Wow, that's really awful," Jennie commented. "Yeah...We should check the bedroom and the bathroom. They might be the helpful places," Taehyung inferred as Jennie quickly nodded.
The bedroom was in full white colour, from white sheets to white cabinets, it was rare to find a colourful item present in the scenario. Taehyung proceeded to open one of the cupboards while Jennie pulled the drawers from the nightstands.
Jennie read a few words on the countless papers that were shoved in the drawer, "Business papers, nothing else." Taehyung pushed aside the several clothes that hang in the cupboard, trying to find anything, "Prada, Celina and Bulgari. Their bills and eight purses, nothing else."
Jennie opened another drawer as Taehyung entered the bathroom. This was not how they expected the investigation to be. There was nothing but the most useless items in the drawers. Business papers, bills, jewellery and medicines. Jennie stared at the mess she had created on the floor. Opening the last drawer, she found nothing but a camera.
Just when she was about to open its gallery, Taehyung shouted her name, "Jennie! Come here, fast!"
Dashing straight to the full white tiled bathroom which rather looked like a whole spa, she was Taehyung staring at a simple blue cupboard that had nothing but towels and shampoos. Jennie struggled to understand what Taehyung was gazing at. "What?" she asked but he used all his strength to push the cupboard aside, Jennie gawked at the sight.
There was a door behind that cupboard.
