'When love is not madness, it is not love -- Pedro Calderon de la Barca'

It was weird.

It seemed like wherever he turned, eyes were always watching him.

His every move, whatever he was doing... And he only felt like this during a certain month of the year: February.

"Kazuma! I'm going to be a little busy so can you get some of the supplies from the classroom and take it to the staff room for me?"

The black-haired teen nodded at one of his classmates before making his way towards the destination. He was already heading towards the staff room anyways, as it was his duty to do some paperwork as the class representative, so it really didn't bother him.

If he had to say something bothered him, it was definitely the beady stares he felt watching him from behind. He felt his heart rate increase as he tried his best to ignore it. The fifteen-year-old swallowed hard as he entered the classroom to get the supplies.

Unbeknownst to the teen, something—or someone—was creeping up behind him. And just as Kazuma Kurosaki spun around, a good grip around the textbooks he held, he saw her.

With her face tinged a dark red, a girl in the same grade, Mizuki Nanami, hung her head in embarrassment. "Kurosaki! D-do you like chocolate?"

She flushed further, and Kazuma's eyes widened in shock.

Chocolate...? Why would she be asking something like that?

Despite still being baffled at such a question, once Kazuma noticed how awkward she appeared, he opened his mouth to reply, "I don't hate it. Dark chocolate, that is."

Mizuki's head snapped up in surprise. "Y-you don't like milk chocolate?"

"It's too sweet for me," replied Kazuma with a stoic expression as usual.

"I see..." The girl, still blushing, sent him a thankful smile and spun around. "Thank you!"

He watched as she ran out of the room scarily quick, bemused. What was that about?

Shaking his head to rid further thoughts, Kazuma spun and exited the room. As he made his way towards the staff room, more beady stares continued to follow him and put him on edge. And whenever he turned to look at who it was, nobody was there.

Talk about creepy.

"Thank you, Kazuma," his homeroom teacher said, receiving the items Kazuma had given to him. He smiled. "Really, what would this school do without you? Besides those many students, even an old guy like me needs you."

Kazuma forced a laugh, and just then, the teacher's face lit up with an idea.

"That's it!" he erupted energetically. He pointed excitedly towards the wall where a poster hung. "You should run for the Student Council! You'd definitely win for sure! You're a born leader, Kazuma!"

Kazuma stared unsurely at the poster, and shook his head. "I'm fine the way things are. Thank you."

The teacher sighed, scratching the back of his head. "Oh, well... Just live life I guess. Don't waste what you still have left of your youth and enjoy things, okay?"

Kazuma gave his teacher a diligent bow before getting back up and leaving out the door. Just as he turned out of the room, he almost managed to bump into someone, but held himself back at the last second. Eyes wide, his violet coloured eyes fell onto a familiar purple-haired girl.

He recognized her from his class. Hitomi Watanabe, was it?

The female let out a boisterous laugh, holding a hand to her head apologetically. "Oh, sorry! Didn't see you there!"

"No, I apologize for not watching where I was going," Kazuma politely apologized.

The girl held a hand to her chin, stepping closer to the male in a studious manner. "Hmm... Interesting."

A tad freaked out, Kazuma stared at her weirdly. "Yes?"

She lurched backed instantly. "Ah, sorry, sorry!" She gave an almost sarcastic courtesy before going on, "I was just surprised. You see, I've been in your class since the beginning of the year and yet this is only our first time talking." She chuckled. "And I guess it's true."

"What is?" Kazuma inquired.

She merely smiled a Cheshire grin. "Wow, you really are amazing, Kazuma. Everyone sure does love you."

Kazuma was lost at what this girl was saying. And noticing his perplexed expression, the female grinned, holding up a finger. "Kazuma, you really have no idea what I'm saying do you?"

"Not at all."

She flinched at his response and laughed awkwardly. She smiled regardless.

"Well, you'll figure out soon. Just come to the gym tomorrow at 4 o'clock PM. Got it?" With a quick wave, the female dashed down the hallway and disappeared after turning the corner.

Kazuma blinked.

What?

☻ ☺ ☻

"Kazuma!"

The black-haired male cringed before turning his head, only to see that purple-haired girl from yesterday come bounding up to him first thing Friday morning.

She waved her arm around furiously. "Wait up—" Before she could finish, she tripped over her feet and fell flat on her face.

Kazuma gawked at the female and just as he held out a helping hand, she jerked upwards.

"I'm fine! I'm fine!" she declared, calmly pulling herself up to her feet. She looked at a startled Kazuma before smiling. "So—"

"Wait!" Kazuma yelled, pointing in surprise to her bleeding face. "You're not fine at all! Here—"

"No, really!" Hitomi grinned for emphasis and Kazuma gave her a glare. He grabbed her by the hand and dragged her inside of the school building.

"I apologize, but I'm taking you to the infirmary," Kazuma enunciated through his gritted teeth, causing the girl's eyelids to shoot up.

After a while of walking, she broke out into an amused laugh. "You really are different than I thought! You're hardworking, kind, and straightforward; perfect in all aspects, actually. You possess all the qualities every girl here loves."

"Is that so?" Kazuma asked, though he wasn't interested in the least.

Pulling away her arm from his grasps, Hitomi snickered. "Yup," she replied. "That's why you should totally be in the Student Council, Kazuma! It suits you way more than anything you're doing now!"

Kazuma narrowed his eyes warily at her. She really was odd. Why would she care if he joined something like that? They didn't even know each other. Deciding not to answer her, Kazuma seized her wrist again and continued to drag her along.

"Oh yeah, that reminds me Kazuma. You're coming to the gym today, right?" Hitomi opened her mouth once more. "Just be sure not to—"

"I'm not."

Hitomi blinked at Kazuma's answer, hoping she had heard him wrong.

Kazuma spared her a glance over his shoulder. "Why do I have to come to such a thing in the first place? It is not as if there is an assembly today that I must attend."

Hitomi, obviously taken aback, feigned a look of hurt. "No, no no! No way, Kazuma! Today is an important day! They all got it ready for you so you have to show up!"

Who was "they?" Kazuma leered at her. What was she planning? "What kind of gathering is it?" he asked her.

Hitomi paled at his question. "That is..." She hurriedly shook her head. "More importantly, Kazuma! What do you mean you won't show up? You can't do that; not today! The only reason I'm telling you about this is because I'm just looking out for a friend!"

Friend? "We're not friends." Kazuma shot the teen a dark glare.

"Huh? Why not!" she yelled, her jaw dropped in disbelief. "Even after you showed me the kindness of your heart by taking me to the infirmary when I got hurt? How could you be so cruel?" Kazuma watched the her put a hand to her forehead, dramatically swaying back and forth. "I feel faint~!"

Hitomi fell backwards, hoping for Kazuma to catch her before impact could hit, but without even moving from his place, Kazuma stared blankly as she hit the floor. He cringed at the wrenching, ricocheting sound. That must've be painful.

The black-haired male, taking this as his chance, ambled backwards, using small and steady steps so she wouldn't be able to hear him. She was really not normal. Kazuma didn't want to spend a second longer with this girl.

As if not fazed by the painful hit at all, Hitomi shot up, and she held out a pointed finger at Kazuma in disbelief. "How are you leaving me? You were supposed to catch me!" She scrambled onto her knees and buried her face in her hands. "You're so cruel, Kazuma! I trusted you too!"

Her audible sobs caused guilt to wash over the teen and he gazed at her worriedly. Was she in pain...?

"Oww! It's so painful!" she wailed, as if to answer Kazuma's thoughts and he grimaced.

This was...the first time he'd ever made a girl cry. It was especially embarrassing with all the looks the students around the hallway were giving them. Why did she have to do this?

Stepping up to the girl, Kazuma reluctantly held out a hand for her. "Sorry."

Hitomi removed her palms from her face in a way which only allowed him to see her malevolent smile. It was pure evil. "If you don't come after school today, Kazuma, I'll cry and spread so many lies about you it'll ruin your entire image to the school and make everyone reconsider you. Trust me, everyone will believe a crying girl. So, what do you say, Kazuma?"

Colour drained from Kazuma's complexion. There were many things wrong with this girl, it was obvious. She faked this entire show all to get him to go. And with the crowd around them, there was no way he could refuse. She had him trapped.

This was the first time Kazuma ever came to realize that there was no way he could win against her.

☻ ☺ ☻

When he opened his locker, an endless amount of chocolates flowed out.

On his way to his class, he was bombarded with girls carrying even more chocolate for him.

And when he walked into the classroom, beady stares followed his every move as he found a bundle of more dark chocolate laying there within, and around his desk.

It was back. This dreadful day...

"Hmm... Why the sour mood, Kazuma?" a classmate of his, Atori Yamada, eyed him with distaste. He had no right to be unhappy with that much amount of chocolate.

Kazuma stared down at the excessive amount of chocolates on his desk, his eyebrows knitted together. "Why do I always receive this much chocolate on Valentine's Day? I thought it was just at my junior high, but it even followed me to my first year of high school too..."

Atori sent him a glower before grabbing him into a chokehold. "You idiot! Just be glad that you get this much!" He clenched his teeth. "I wish girls would even notice me, dammit!?"

Kazuma struggled under his grasps. "Girls?" he choked out, tone perplexed.

His question only increased Atori's rage. "Gah, you're such a stone-faced idiot! I hate you so much!"

Kazuma tried to pull away from him. What did he even say wrong?!

☻ ☺ ☻

And here he was...

Frowning, the fifteen-year-old stared at the gym doors in front of him, and onto the watch he wore on his wrist. It read '3:58 PM' signaling it was already time for him to arrive. Dread couldn't help but overcome him.

What was that girl even planning?

As soon as Kazuma brusquely opened the gym doors, his eyes landed on the rows, and rows, and rows of females, sitting there on chairs. As if they were all mindless dolls, they simultaneously turned their heads towards Kazuma, creepy smiles slapped onto their faces.

Kazuma felt a chill run through him, his eyes wide in fear.

What the hell was this?!

"Ah, here's out guest of honour now!" The familiar tone of voice caused Kazuma to whip his head towards the stage where that troublesome girl he knew all to well, stood.

With a wide grin, she held out her hands. "Now, you amazing Kazities, we will be beginning our games now!" She held out a finger. "If you would please start, Kazuma!"

With the many doting and petrifying smiles, Kazuma did the one thing he should. He spun around so fast and ran out of the gym without wasting another second in there.

Even though he was trying to run away, it didn't take long for him to hear the sounds of stomping footsteps trailing after him. Panicked, he peered over his shoulder to see the many girls from the gym chasing after him, their arms kept up close and filled with chocolates.

"KAZUMA!" they hollered in unison, only spooking the teen even more.

Kazuma sprinted faster than he ever has in his life, his veins pumping with fearful adrenaline.

Why were they chasing him?!

"And the games begin! Kazuma is running, the Kazuma Kurosaki Fan Club right behind!" Hitomi's hyped up voice boomed from somewhere above their heads. "They won't give up! The first girl to drag Kazuma back to the gym will get to request anything they want from him!"

What?!

"Who will be the lucky girl—and sorry, or gentleman, Kazuo!—to win the request?" Hitomi went on, drawing out her voice for emphasis.

Kazuma gritted his teeth as he dashed down the school field. So this was her doing?!

"Hitomi!" he bellowed.

☻ ☺ ☻

Panted heavily, Kazuma came to a stop inside of the boys bathroom. He slid down to the floor to catch his breath. It had already been a half hour and yet they were still searching for him.

And he had that irritating nuisance to thank for that!

Why did he come there in the first place? He knew it was a trap, and she sort of blackmailed him so he had no choice...but still!

A knock on the entrance doors startled the male and he flinched. He jumped up in alarm, slowly inching away from the entrance.

No, he was trapped! Ugh, he was so smart. Everyone was looking for him and yet he ran into a place with only one exit. Well, it was the boy's bathroom so obviously he thought he'd be safe but...

"Yo, Kazuma! You in here?" The door to the bathroom reeled open, revealing an elated Hitomi. "Yay, I found you!"

Kazuma filled up with rage at the sight of the female and he held out a fist. "Hitomi! You set me up!"

"Set you up?" Hitomi repeated as if he were being ridiculous. "This is one of the duties as the Vice President of the Kazuma Kurosaki Fan Club. Please don't say it like I've done something bad." She smirked. "And besides, you said you'd come yourself. It's not like I forced you."

"You—" Before Kazuma could berate her, she shushed him.

"I wouldn't scream if I were you."

"Why?" Kazuma glowered.

Her lips upturned in amusement. "Well, I'm not gonna stop you. But I'm telling you this because I, Hitomi Watanabe, am such an awesome friend—"

"No, you're a lunatic."

Hitomi pretended she didn't hear his remark and went on, "Those girls are after you. And trust me, they would do anything they can to bring you to the gym. For someone as popular as you, you understand how bad it is for them to catch you, right?"

Kazuma paled at the thought of those fangirls ever mobbing him again.

"Now, you have two options." Hitomi grinned. "One: go out there now and possibly run around and around until Valentine's Day is officially over, which is 12 o'clock AM if you didn't already know. Or two: trust and follow me so you'll be able to go home soon."

Slinking her arm through his, Hitomi dragged Kazuma to the exit.

"Oh, and because I'm your friend, I'm not allowing you to choose option number one."

Kazuma's violet coloured eyes widened. "Hey—"

"Calm down~! I'm looking out for you~!" Hitomi chimed, ending off her sentences frivolously.

"Don't tell me to calm down!" Kazuma shouted, enraged. "And do not end your sentences with that annoying suffix!"

"Annoying?" Hitomi's eyes sparkled. "Ah, you don't like it? Hmm... Maybe I'll end my sentences off with it from now on~ssu!"

Kazuma twitched. "Hitomi—"

"Ah, it's Kazuma!"

"Ugh." Hitomi patted Kazuma's shoulder as soon as her chartreuse hues landed upon the group of females and a male by the staircase. Kazuma's face was as white as snow. She sent him a weak smile before letting go of him and taking off down the hallway. "If you want to get saved, make it safely to the gymnasium!"

"Huh?" Kazuma's jaw-dropped as he heard the loud blaring of screams and footsteps racing toward him.

He started running again.

He was so going to get her for this!

☻ ☺ ☻

It was utter madness!

Valentine's Day should've never existed in the first place!

Breathing hard, Kazuma exhaustedly staggered up to the gym doors and yanked it open. Was he safe? He couldn't run anymore... He was done...

Before Kazuma knew what was happening, someone slipped their arm through his and tugged him into the gym. Dread crossed his face after he realized what he had just done, and turned his head towards the girl who had successfully gotten him to enter the gym and win the competition.

And it was Hitomi!— grinning evilly from ear to ear in return to his shocked reaction.

"AND WE HAVE A WINNER!" the commentator screamed over the microphone. "THE WINNER OF THIS YEAR'S VALENTINE THROTTLE IS NONE OTHER THAN HITOMI WATANABE! THE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE KAZUMA KUROSAKI FAN CLUB TAKES THE CROWN!"

A girl ran up to Hitomi, crying tears of joy.

"This must be a super-duper amazing moment for you! Tell us, what do you request from Kazuma?"

Hitomi slinked her arm out of a jaw- slack and motionless Kazuma, scratching the back of her head. "Wow! This is all to sudden~! I didn't actually think I could do it!" Hitomi winked as if this were a T.V. broadcasting show. "First off, I'd like to announce here and now that I'll be officially leaving the fan club. Kazuma isn't my type after all. I'd rather keep him as a friend~!"

"Eh!" the girl yelled as if the thought was impossible.

"Secondly, I hereby declare that I'll be ending all my sentences in "ssu" from now on to irritate him because he's a tsundere who gets annoyed by it~!" she continued and snickered. "And lastly! What I request from Kazuma is..."

Hitomi held out her arms just as confetti went off, along with pink balloons and streamers that came tumbling to the ground.

"For him to join the Student Council~!"

She gave Kazuma an innocent smile.

"All right~?"

☻ ☺ ☻

"Mm~ chocolate!" cheered Hitomi Watanabe, indulging in the large amount of chocolates Kazuma had on his desk.

Once she popped one into her mouth, she paled and did a spit-take.

"Eww, dark chocolate! Why do you like this taste, Kazuma?" Hitomi gagged, tossing the horrid thing into the garbage.

"Because you hate it," he retorted as he typed away at his computer.

"Ah, I see~" seventeen-year-old Hitomi smirked malevolently. "It matches your personality. Bitter 'till the very end~"

"I'm not bitter," Kazuma refuted stubbornly.

"Oh yes you are," Hitomi cooed. "Besides, everyone knows milk chocolate is the best~ You should request that more from your fangirls."

Kazuma paled at the thought of them.

Hitomi laughed as she plopped onto the sofa. "Trust me, you'll be getting chocolates until the day you die~ And even then, they will always remain disgusting and bitter, like your entire personality~"

"I'm sure that you're the one with the most warped personality." Kazuma stood up from his desk and grabbed a stack of papers, dropping it onto her head. "Get working."

Hitomi simply chuckled with an amused grin. "Eh, thank you~! That's the sweetest thing you've ever said about me~! After two longs years of this on and off friendship~!" She dramatically wiped away a tear. "You're finally softening up~!"

Kazuma twitched. "Just get to work."

Completely ignoring his orders, Hitomi proceeded to flip on the T.V., continuing to munch on the chocolates she had said she had 'hated' just moments before.

It didn't take long for Kazuma to finally snap at the Student Council Secretary of Kaisei Academy, allowing them to get into their usual back and forth bickering.

Even two years later, she was still the most infuriating human being he had ever met.

And he still couldn't wait for the day she would finally disappear from his life.

☻ ☺ ☻

Yay, a Valentine Day special~!

It took me a while to write this out, but it was still fun taking a break from the plot line and writing about this duo from the Kaisei Academy SC. Kazuma's just naturally popular and stoic, and Hitomi's just twisted and amusing... And this was how these two met in their first year of high school lol *claps*

I hope you liked this randomness XD

The next chapter will have to be in a while, just saying. I'm gonna take a break from writing for maybe a few days because I'm currently sick *coughs* and single on this very popular, and chocolate-filled day *snorts* no not really. I'm married to countless of fictional characters who make up my life. Who needs a legitimate "relationship?"

Definitely not me!

...

#ForeverAlone.

Lol.
