When you picked me up, I thought we'd play,

Roaming the house with my favorite toy.

Then we got in the car, driving away,

With my brothers and sisters beside.

That was the moment I noticed,

Mom was not with us.

I tried to bark, your stare was coldest.

They started to panic,

But I assured them, we'd go back soon.

Though I was frantic,

Unable to see the windows.

The motor stopped, hope rose in my chest,

For each one of us was hungry, growing cold,

Longing to nestle against our mothers breast.

But instead of retrieving us one by one,

You grabbed the box, throwing us around roughly.

The air was freezing, it made us shiver,

We huddled together, I stuck out my chest toughly.

This was not okay, I had to defend,

For our family was being separated.

You used to be our friend.

I tried my best to stay strong,

But my tummy hurt, my body was cold,

And I missed my mom.

The skies grew dark, the air frigid,

No one came for us, in our little box.

Growls were audible, my spine rigid,

Would this be our end?

How could we go from being so loved,

To being abandoned on the road?

I wish you'd come back, we're scared.

I promise we'll be good, eat half our share,

We won't chew the shoes.

My whines could be silenced, to show I care.

What did we do wrong?

To be abandoned, all alone,

We were only puppies,

That needed to be shown,

How to behave,

What we shouldn't eat,

Where not to go potty,

When not to wipe our feet.

We just want our mom,

To be safe, and warm, inside.

Please come back, save us,

We're still learning to run, we can't hide.

It's started pouring water,

From the sky above,

We don't want to wander,

And get lost, waiting for you.

But my sister says, you aren't coming back,

That we've been left out to die,

Is this true? Please say no, you're our pack.

No dog gets left behind.
