THEMES!

this fanfiction has been rated mature for several reasons: first, for indications of foul language. slurs, profanity, curses, the like. my main & original characters are neither afraid nor ashamed of the way they speak. plus, it's "attack on titan", what did you guys expect? xD the minute eren, jean, and levi make their appearance, you can guarantee there will be tons and tons of cussing.

second, for implications and descriptions of events that revolve around controversial topics: violence, sexual assault, prostitution, physical/verbal abuse ( particularly within the family ), child neglect, self-harm, traumas and phobias, mental illnesses, and other such issues.

i will be including trigger warnings at the beginning of every chapter that explicitly states any one of or even more than the above stated, but i encourage the faint of heart and readers who have been made familiar with the aforementioned triggers firsthand to please take caution when reading. i am open to criticisms and feedback, especially when it comes to these sorts of sensitive matters.

additionally, there will be implications of homosexual relationships in this book. if you don't like that, feel free to discard all thoughts of reading it. nobody is pressuring you to put up with our differing beliefs. keep in mind that i will not tolerate any homophobic behavior—if i catch wind of even the slightest bit of hostile treatment towards my characters for the sole reason that they are not cisgender, heterosexual people like you insist they should be, then please do everyone a favor and see yourself out.

third and last, the general atmosphere of this fanfiction is absolutely not lighthearted, given the recurring themes i've expressed above. i am not a professional writer; this is my first real attempt at writing a full-length book—a fanfic, no less—so i may or may not portray certain scenes in a different light than others might. but i do know that there are instances wherein heavy story conflicts are unavoidable, more so in a franchise as dark and intense as "attack on titan". this work will not downplay any of the canonical characters' struggles, nor will it hold back on my original characters' own.

rest assured, i will not make them suffer for no conceivable reason.. though i will admit that i do have my sadistic tendencies 👀

AUTHOR'S NOTE!

that said, i did not create "crestal downfalls" to poke fun at abuse survivors, victims of rape, prostitutes, people who deal with mental illnesses and disorders, or just anybody in general. i don't want to pretend like i know everything about what they've gone through, i have not lived the lives they have, but i don't intend to be purposely ignorant, either.

i am slowly and steadily learning how important it is to be aware. how many people do we interact with on a daily basis? how many people's pasts and backgrounds do we fully know and understand? how many of them have been through hell and back, how many have been promised a better life that they did not receive?

we need to be aware that these things do happen. they aren't just fragments of fiction or products of a fairytale. they are real people, with hearts of their own and memories they will not always be comfortable enough to divulge.

and when they do choose to speak up, they deserve to be heard for who they are, not for the disgrace that society has often made them out to be. i hope "crestal downfalls" teaches exactly that.
