James Potter. P.O.V.

For the first time in weeks, James was completely and uncontrollably happy.

It had taken him forever to fall asleep last night, probably because the girl he had fancied for all his life had kissed him.

Who knew that all he had to do was confess?

He jumped up from his bed, completely lovestruck and awaiting when he could see her beautiful face again.

James still couldn't believe it. He had kissed Daisy Wood! That was the last thing he had expected to happen to him, more unlikely than an asteroid hitting the Earth. But it had happened, and James was over the moon.

He smiled and hummed How You Get the Girl by Taylor Swift to himself as he changed into some casual clothes and ruffled his hair. Luckily, today was a weekend, meaning he could spend the entire day with the girl he loved.

James pranced down the stairs, his mind only really thinking about Daisy Wood. He couldn't get her out of his head—her smile, her "good night," her kiss.

When he reached the Great Hall, his eyes looked through the entire room for Daisy, just to not find her. However, he saw Benjamin and Thomas.

"Hey, guys, good morning!" he exclaimed, sitting down to join them. He couldn't wait to tell them the news. Oh, Benjamin would be so excited and Thomas would ... well, he didn't want to think about that.

"Hey, James!" smiled Thomas. "You're really cheery this morning!"

"It's a beautiful day," said James. Benjamin chuckled.

"Why'd you leave the party so early last night?" asked Benjamin. "I saw you leave with Daisy around midnight, but then she came down without you about twenty minutes later and then you were asleep when I went to bed at three."

"Oh, I've got the biggest news!" said James. "I'm not joking, this is the best thing that's ever happened to me. Are you ready?"

"Yeah, just say it, mate!" said Benjamin, as he and Thomas leaned in. James grinned.

"Daisy kissed me last night!" he announced excitedly. His two friends looked at him blankly. They must've been in shock. "I know you guys are shocked. So am I! Isn't it incredible?"

"Daisy kissed you?" asked Thomas.

"Yup! I told her I loved her and she kissed me!"

"Then why did Daisy come down without you?" asked Benjamin.

"Because she said she had to 'process' everything," explained James, beginning to wonder why they didn't seem excited. "Why aren't you guys screaming right now?"

"Oh, James ..." muttered Thomas, as if he was comforting a kindergartener. "I bet you had a lot of Firewhiskey last night and it was quite late ..."

"Yeah, mate, dreams can get really elaborate if you chug Firewhiskey."

James' eyes widened. How could his friends think he had merely been dreaming? Fine, maybe he had been unsuccessful for thirteen straight years, but—OK, maybe James could see why.

"It wasn't a dream," said James. "I'm serious! She kissed me!"

"Alright, bud, we'll just ask her now," said Benjamin. "Here she comes."

James turned and saw Daisy walking into the Great Hall with Marlee and Gwen by her side, all chatting excitedly about something. Daisy's eyes lit up when she saw James. His heart swelled and he beamed wider than he ever had before. There she was.

He loved that girl.

─ ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ─

Daisy had spent the entire rest of the night telling Marlee and Gwen about her kiss with James. She was pretty sure it was the best thing that had ever happened to her and she had been over the moon when she had woken up.

When she entered the Great Hall and saw James, the entire world faded away. Daisy wasn't sure why she hadn't kissed him earlier, because now it was all she wanted to do. She wanted to spend every waking moment with him and tell him how much she fancied him until he got sick of it.

Marlee and Gwen sat down when they reached the table, but Daisy didn't because James had stood up. He was smiling so widely that Daisy's heart warmed.

"Morning, my lady," he said to her, and she almost fainted when he ruffled his hair.

"Morning, James," she replied.

"Daisy, you've got to hear this," said James, his tone changing from incredibly soft to normal. Daisy chuckled. "These two bastards," he pointed at Benjamin and Thomas, both of whom waved to Daisy, "think I'm lying."

"We're not saying you're lying, James," said Thomas.

"All we're saying is that Firewhiskey leads to some very vivid dreams," said Benjamin, "including kisses that didn't happen."

That was when Daisy realized what had happened, and it was so funny that she nearly burst out laughing. Clearly, James had told his friends about the kiss at once, just as Daisy had, and due to Daisy's many rejections over the past thirteen years, they believed he was just making things up.

"I'm telling you, it really happened!" insisted James. "Daisy, these two think you didn't kiss me and I just dreamt it. How could I dream of something that was so utterly amazing and literally changed my life? C'mon, Daisy, tell 'em."

Just then, Daisy realized she had the opportunity to do justice to all of James' prank victims, also known as every single witch and wizard alive. She could make James look a bit like an idiot, just as he had to every single Dungbomb victim, Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes eater, and Firewhiskey fountain student.

She had to keep her boyfriend on his toes sometimes.

"What are you talking about?" she asked, in the best acting she could muster up. She looked around—it seemed like everyone had turned to see the commotion.

"You kissed me last night and they don't believe it."

"James, are you alright?" asked Daisy. Marlee snorted and Daisy shot her a look.

"I told you, James, Firewhiskey makes some weird dreams," said Thomas, sighing. "It's alright. Let's just eat."

"No!" said James, looking confused. "I remember, Daisy. We literally kissed and you left to process it."

"Why would I leave right after a kiss?" questioned Daisy. "I think you drank way too much last night. We didn't kiss and it's a bit concerning that you dreamt that ..."

"What?" asked James, beginning to look genuinely concerned, then horrified. "We ... we kissed. I—I swear, we did."

"James, we didn't kiss," said Daisy, who was beginning to feel kind of bad as her boyfriend's expression morphed from excited to embarrassed.

"Oh my Merlin," said James. "Daisy, I'm so sorry, I really thought we—"

She cut him off with a kiss. James smiled as he wrapped his arms around her waist, just like he had last night, and Daisy wrapped her own arms around his neck. This time, she didn't want to let go.

Butterflies exploded in her stomach once again. Maybe each kiss would feel like their first. At least, she hoped.

After a few moments, or a few hours, or maybe a few crescent moons, she pulled away and laughed at the look on James' face—a mixture of joy, slight confusion, and admiration.

"Funny prank, right?" she mused. James chuckled.

"The funniest."

Then, she looked around, just now noticing that everyone else in the Great Hall had gone silent. Maybe, if she hadn't wanted to be the centre of attention, she shouldn't have kissed James Potter in front of the entire school. But maybe, she didn't care. Maybe, she wanted the whole world to know that James Potter was hers, and she wasn't going to let him go anytime soon.

All of her fellow students looked dumbfounded, her Professors looked shocked, Marlee and Gwen looked proud, Benjamin looked ecstatic, and Thomas's expression was unreadable. Then, he slowly sighed and gave James a nod.

That's when the entire Great Hall erupted into applause. Daisy was taken aback as they all started cheering, whooping, and whistling. She saw Professor McGonagall sigh and hand Professor Longbottom a few Galleons.

Daisy didn't need all this attention. What she needed was a moment alone with her boyfriend. So, she grabbed him by the wrist and ran out of the Great Hall to somewhere she knew they would be able to talk.

When they finally reached the top of the Astronomy Tower, James led her over to the place where they had looked at constellations during their Astronomy lessons. She let out a content sigh.

"I can't believe you kissed me," said James, breaking the silence. Daisy looked over at him and chuckled.

"Me neither," she admitted. "I was trying to just confess my feelings, but you wouldn't stop talking—"

"Wait, what?"

James' jaw dropped. Daisy couldn't help the large grin that formed across her face. She turned to face him.

"Yes, James, I was trying to ask you out," sighed Daisy. "I've actually fancied you since Christmas break after you crashed that sled. You fell asleep, but Marlee, Gwen, and I kept talking and I realized that I'd just been in deep denial about it for so long."

"Since Christmas?" gasped James. "You've fancied me for that long, and you didn't do anything about it?"

"Are you forgetting how you told me that you had gotten over me?" reminded Daisy. "How would it look if you had gotten over me and that was exactly when I started liking you? I couldn't do that to you. Also, I can't handle rejection."

"Is that why you were blushing even more than usual?"

"I can't help it, alright?"

James laughed heartily and then ruffled his hair.

"Anyway, Rose convinced me to go ask you out so that's what I was going to do, except you were being so mean to me that I couldn't even get a word in!" snapped Daisy. James frowned, now looking very guilty. "It's fine, though. It was a nice kiss."

"Just 'nice?'" asked James. "Not mindblowing, earthshaking, or world-changing?"

"Oh, it was all of those things and more," laughed Daisy, making James nod along. "Wow. I can't believe I actually did it. I couldn't stop thinking about you for the past month or so. You were always in my dreams and it was starting to get out of control."

"So, I'm like your dream come true?"

Daisy shoved James' shoulder as he burst out laughing at his own joke. Even the way he laughed made Daisy's stomach swirl.

"I was really trying to hold back from confessing for, like, the hundredth time," said James, once he had regained his composure. "I didn't want you to be uncomfortable or anything and I couldn't risk losing you as a friend, because I don't know what life even is without you around, but I guess last night was just the last straw."

"I was fully convinced that you had given up on me," said Daisy. "You're a great liar. Not the best thing to know about your boyfriend, but—"

"Boyfriend?" asked James, a wide smile appearing on his face. "I'm your ... boyfriend? And you're my girlfriend?"

"Well, James, I've been wanting to say this for a while," said Daisy, "but I really, really fancy you. Like, when I go to bed, you're all I see. I wake up, and you're in my mind. I'm studying, but I keep zoning out because of you. So, James Sirius Potter, will you do me the great honour of being my boyfriend?"

"Oh, every little girl dreams of this day!" said James dramatically, putting his hand to his forehead. Daisy burst out laughing. "Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!"

Daisy put an imaginary ring on his finger as he wiped away imaginary tears.

"I really tried to give up on you," said James. "Seriously. I slapped myself like fifteen times, but nothing worked. By the thirty-fourth slap, my face was too red to keep going." Daisy chuckled. "You're everything I've ever wanted in a girl. I loved teasing you and making your cheeks turn red when we were five, then I loved playing jokes on you when we were eleven, then I loved being around you, then, sometime maybe during sixth year, I knew I loved you."

Daisy's cheeks felt so hot that she was worried she'd caught a cold.

"Anyway, you know that piece of parchment that you kept being curious about?" asked James. Daisy perked up. "I think it's time I showed you."

"Oh Merlin, yes, I've been thinking about that non-stop!" exclaimed Daisy. James wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulled her in, took out the same piece of parchment that Daisy had dreamt about multiple times, and unfolded it.

How I will get the girl (hopefully)

1. Buy Daisy a necklace, then make sure she knows it was from me

- Fake conversation with Remus and Lily

- Crescent moon, of course (everything good happens under one)

2. Act like you're over her even though you're obviously not

- Since she told you to stop flirting, you have to stop flirting

- Get Lily's help with breaking the habit

- Stop the winking, seriously

3. Recruit someone to make her a bit jealous

- Remus' friend Rachel (that red-headed girl)

- Give Rachel free Weasleys' Wizard Whizzes because she hates me for some strange reason

- Don't take it too far

4. Swerve the sled

- Take the wrong turn and crash into the tree

- Plant a fake mistletoe, but obviously don't pressure her to kiss you

5. ̶C̶o̶n̶f̶e̶s̶s̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶h̶o̶p̶e̶f̶u̶l̶l̶y̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶l̶a̶s̶t̶ ̶t̶i̶m̶e̶

- Please, Daisy.

"You're kidding me."

James looked worried, maybe because Daisy was glaring at him with enough force to melt all the glaciers in the world. He chuckled nervously.

"Romantic?" he tried. Daisy snatched the list from his hands and pointed at the fourth item.

"You swerved the sled on purpose?" she shouted. "We were so close to victory, James, and I hate to lose! How could you do this? This ... this is unforgivable!"

Relief flooded over James' face. He shot her a boyish grin that made her glare melt away.

"We're ... we're over!" said Daisy, trying to remain angry. He cocked his head to the side and raised an eyebrow.

"Are we?"

"Oh, shut up and let me dissect the rest of this," grumbled Daisy. James nodded. "Right ... first step, the necklace. I can't believe you faked that conversation."

"Listen, I didn't want you to nag on me about how expensive it was and this was the only way!" he said. "You should be able to enjoy nice gifts. You deserve a billion of those."

"Well, this is my favourite necklace, so I guess I forgive you," said Daisy. "Hm ... why does everything good happen under a crescent moon?"

"Oh, this is my favourite theory," said James, grinning. "Right, so you know how my late grandad was a werewolf?"

"Yeah."

"Well, my Mum still has the calendar of moon phases that he used to keep to see when the full moon was," explained James. "I knew my birthday was on a crescent moon, which I thought was cool since crescent moons are shaped like bananas, and who doesn't love bananas?"

"I'm not a huge fan. I prefer cherries."

"We're done," said James simply. "Anyway, when I met you, I dug through the calendar to find your birthday, and boom, it was a crescent moon. That cemented the fact that everything good happened under a crescent moon because our birthdays couldn't have been a coincidence. It's like we were meant to be, like written in the stars or something. That's why I memorized your birthday before anyone else's, including my family members."

"Woah, James, I didn't know you fancied me that much!"

"And here's the cherry—no, banana—on top," continued James. "Last night was a crescent moon! That means my three favourite days ever all happened under the same moon phase!"

"OK, that's romantic," admitted Daisy. "But you're making me blush so let's move on. Step two?"

"Well, this one's quite simple," said James. "I had to pretend to be over you so that you wouldn't feel uncomfortable. I wanted to make you happy and that meant shoving my feelings down deep."

"Oh, now I feel terrible—"

"Don't," interrupted James. "I got Lily and Remus' help with this, too. They would pretend to be you and I would have to cut out the winking, pet names, and overall flirting. Lily slapped me in the face like fifteen times."

"Wow, these slaps are getting out of hand ... pun unintended."

"Nice. Then, my most successful step, I think," said James, "is step three. Jealousy."

"WHAT?" gasped Daisy, once she had thoroughly read over the step. "Rachel and you ... that was fake?"

"Oh my Merlin, I can't believe you believed that!" chuckled James. "It was so hard to act. Rachel had to give me directions. She owed a favour to Remus so she agreed to help me, but I had to give her free treats and money for her 'troubles.'"

"I really thought you guys had a thing."

"HA!" laughed James. "She's the last person I would have a thing with. She's not even into boys and she hates me more than anyone else in the world. Thinks I'm arrogant or something ... though, I dunno where she got that idea from ..."

"Me neither," said Daisy jokingly. "But look here, it says not to take it too far."

James' expression turned serious.

"What did I do?"

"Well, James," began Daisy, "remember that night, after the long practice, when I caught you and Rachel talking about me in that corridor?"

"Yeah, that was completely staged."

"You took it too far," said Daisy. "I—I heard you two flirting like crazy and then she started talking crap about me and you didn't even really stop her! Even after I 'tripped,' you two were laughing at some little inside joke and I heard you guys making fun of me even after I walked away! Don't you know how horrible I felt?"

"I'm so sorry, Daisy," he apologized at once. "I don't know how my stupid little brain didn't think about the consequences. I guess, after all these years, I just assumed it wouldn't affect you that much unless we really sold it. I was a complete git and I get it if you want to slap me across the face."

"I think you've gotten enough slaps for a lifetime," she said quietly. Maybe it was just in her nature, but she had forgiven James weeks ago. How could she not? Besides, she couldn't feel anything but happy right now. "Just—just don't ever scare me like that again or I will do the same thing to you."

"Yes, ma'am," said James. Daisy looked back down at the list.

"Well, steps four and five seem pretty self-explanatory," she said. "I guess you finally did it, James. How does it feel?"

"Unbelievable," he breathed. Daisy grinned. "Wait, if you fancied me for so long, why didn't you ask me out earlier? I mean, I get that I told you I had gotten over you, but there must've been something else."

Daisy felt terrible. How could she have possibly thought that James wasn't worth the unwanted attention? For James, she'd take all of it.

"Don't be upset," she warned. James nodded slowly. "James, you've always been the centre of attention ... at Hogwarts and all over the Wizarding World. I was worried that if we started dating, I would get some of that attention and it would be negative. I've never wanted attention, but I realized that you're worth all of it. Every last bit."

He was silent for long enough for Daisy to feel even worse than she already did. She squeezed his hand.

"You're making me nervous," said Daisy.

"Look, Daisy, I want you to promise me something, alright?" said James. Daisy nodded right away. "I haven't even told you what is it yet."

"Doesn't matter, 'cause I'll say yes."

"Alright, alright," chuckled James. "If it ever becomes too much—the cameras, the newspapers, anything—I want you to break up with me."

"I'm not doing that."

"Daisy, you have to promise me that," insisted James. "Anytime you begin to feel like it's just not worth it, just dump me. No explanation needed. I would rather you be happier without me than resent me."

"I'm only agreeing because I know that won't ever happen," said Daisy.

"You know it's never going to go away, right?" said James. "As long as I live, I won't have peace. That means as long as we're together and the world knows it, you won't, either."

"I've thought about that," nodded Daisy. "And you're worth all of it."

"Yeah, and you're worth giving it all up," said James. "Say the word and we can run away to a whole new country or give up magic altogether to become Muggles. Whatever it takes. I'd do anything for you."

"Running away?" asked Daisy. "Just us? That is so James Potter."

James responded by putting her face in his hands and kissing her. The entire world disappeared at that moment. Daisy just wanted to stop time here and never ever move forward. This was what she wanted.

When he pulled away, Daisy took a deep breath. She hadn't even noticed how she had been out of breath.

"I've wanted to do that for a long time," he chuckled. "Maybe since I was thirteen. Ages five to ten were just joking flirtations. Eleven and twelve was puppy love at its finest. Thirteen to fifteen was really fancying. Then, I know that sixteen to now, eighteen, is love. I love you."

Daisy's face felt hotter than lava.

"You know, James," said Daisy, "last night, when I kissed you ... that was my first ever kiss."

"Really?" gasped James. Then, his mouth widened into a large smile, probably because he realized what it meant. "That means you never kissed Greengrass?"

"No, I never really felt ready," shrugged Daisy. "But with you ... it was like, every bone in my body was telling me to do it."

"How was it?"

"Better than Firewhiskey."

"Now, that's a bit far, my lady," chuckled James. "Last night was my first kiss as well. I think that's pretty obvious."

"I thought you kissed Summer?" asked Daisy. James scoffed. "Hey, don't be a git."

"I'm not!" said James. "We literally 'dated' for a week or something. I never wanted to kiss anyone that wasn't you."

"You've got to stop saying things that make me as red as a tomato," muttered Daisy.

Even though it was morning, the Winter season made it so that the stars were still visible. Daisy could spot a few constellations.

"Look up there," said James, pointing up at an especially complex constellation. "Is it just me, or does it look like our initials."

Daisy squinted. She could barely make out a messy "D" and a shimmering "J."

"Wow, James," she laughed. "I see it!"

"I guess we really are written in the stars, my lady."

"I guess we are."

─ ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ─

Daisy was happy. That was really the only word to describe it.

Maybe it was because she and James had been officially dating for just an hour now, but she felt giddy like she was drunk on Felix Felicis.

After staring at the constellations a little more and kissing a lot more, the two of them had returned to the common room, where they were now sitting on the couch in front of the fireplace. James had his arm wrapped around Daisy as she blushed furiously.

Their friends, of course, were bombarding them with questions.

"Alright, explain the entirety of last night's conversation between you two, right up from when she dragged you to your dorm till when she left," said Benjamin. "Leave out no details."

"Wanna take this one?" asked James. Daisy nodded.

"I took James up to his dorm room for a nice and quiet place to talk," she explained enthusiastically. "He was being really snappy but then he started confessing to me! I was so confused and shocked, but then I was like, 'Wow, James looks really good right now,' and 'I cannot stop thinking about James' and 'I really, really fancy him,' so I kissed him."

"Thanks for the compliments, girlfriend," said James. Daisy smiled at him. He had been saying the word "girlfriend" in almost every sentence as if he wanted to soak it all in.

"Wait, I'm so lost," said Thomas. "Daisy, I thought you didn't fancy James? I mean, you made that pretty clear."

"Oh, come on, that was just me in denial," shrugged Daisy. "I realized I fancied him during Christmas break and then I literally couldn't stop thinking about him for, like, three weeks."

"James, I love you," began Thomas, "but I swear, if you do anything bad, I will murder you so hard."

"You think he would do anything?" laughed Marlee. "James Sirius Potter?"

James, on the other hand, looked terrified. He seemed to be very worried about Thomas ever since they had returned to the common room.

"So, Daisy," said Gwen, breaking the silence, "how are you liking the extra attention?"

"It sucks," admitted Daisy. "We've been dating for less than a day and I've gotten more glares than ever before. So many girls keep whispering when I walk past or they ask me weirdly personal questions about James, like what shampoo does he use or what shampoo do I use."

"I'm sorry, girlfriend," frowned James. Daisy shrugged.

"I don't care," she said. "I'm too happy to care what anybody else thinks."

"Yeah, and I'm too happy to think about anything else but you," winked James. In response, Daisy leaned over and kissed him once more. Just as James put his hand on her cheek, Thomas coughed loudly and they broke apart.

"Alright, that's enough," he said, pulling a disgusted face. The others chuckled.

"In all seriousness, mate, are you alright with all of this?" asked James. Thomas sighed before nodding.

"I've always known it was meant to be," he shrugged. "Just don't go snogging each other in front of me."

Daisy couldn't promise that. She also couldn't promise that she'd always be this happy or that she'd pass all of her exams with flying colours or that she'd bring Gryffindor the Quidditch Cup for the last time.

What she could promise was that she wasn't letting go of James anytime soon.
