Contest #8 Not a Believer CLOSED
Hello all! I hope everyone has had a wonderful and safe summer so far!
So as you know, I took a break from writing contests so I could better focus on my summer job, which was working as a cook at a church camp. A decision I don't regret making, since I was already stressed from the long hours and the constant need for energy to keep up with the campers.
But now that camp has ended, I'm ready to jump straight back into things, with a contest that, hopefully, will make you guys reconnect with yourselves a bit more.
This next contest will be about a belief that you no longer believe in. That's right, this is going to be a bit more of a personal contest. Please read this entire chapter so you understand exactly what I mean.
Now, I don't necessarily mean a religion sort of belief. If that's what you want to write about, absolutely go for it, I will not judge you either way. It can even be a simple thing, like as a child, you believed your mom always told you the truth, but then you found out that (spoiler alert) Santa isn't real. It can be either really innocent and light-hearted, or hard-hitting and thought-provoking.
The rest of the criteria is as follows:
Word limit: 2000 words or less
Due Date: August 30th at midnight EST
Genre: Non-fiction, this is about yourself
Another thing, please be respectful towards other's beliefs. Since this is an open contest, there will be differing beliefs that may not align with your own, and to protect everyone and make this contest a safe place, please do not purposefully discriminate against a belief.
That includes: Commenting on their entry in a negative way, writing hate speech, or going out of your way in general to insult someone's beliefs. Do not say you're just voicing your opinion, there's a difference between having healthy discussion and being a bully.
Please be respectful and mature during this. If you have comments, questions, or concerns, feel free to private message me or just comment them below if they're simple enough.
That being said, let the writing begin!
"Be courageous and try to write in a way that scares you a little." -Holley Gerth
