A Summer to Never Forget

It was a beautiful autumn day. The seniors of Birmingham High School were leaving school early, because of Senior ditch day. The young adults got in their cars to hang out together for the last time before they set out for college.

While driving to the mall two senior boys, Jed Wyatt's and Tyler Cameron, decide to start a high-speed race to their destination. While going 80 mph, Wyatt speeds through a traffic light to take the lead; suddenly, he collides with a minivan. The minivan is spins out of control, while Jed is doing his best to keep control of the wheel. After both cars have come to a standstill Jed's heart races. His girlfriend, Haley, tells him to drive off. Jed not knowing whether to listen to his conscious or his girlfriend speeds off leaving the other driver unconscious or possibly dead.

Other drivers and passengers horrified by the events stay in their cars. The other racer, Tyler Cameron, nervously pulls up next to the minivan to see if anyone needs help. Blood rushing to his head he feels faint from seeing the other driver unconscious and bleeding from his side. It's an elderly man, his white hair stained with blood and his cane stuck in the front window. Tyler attempts to open the door but it's too smashed in to be opened. His girlfriend, Hannah Brown, dials 911. Tyler thinking quick on his feet grabs the tire iron from his trunk and smashes the passenger side window of the minivan. He asks Hannah to come and climb into the car and save the man. She does so willingly and compresses the cut in the elderly man's side.

While waiting for the ambulance Tyler tries to contact Jed but he does not answer. The police are the first to arrive and help Hannah with the elderly man. The other officer starts asking Tyler what happened. Tyler lies to defend Jed and says he doesn't know. A part of him wanted to tell the truth, but another part of him wanted to protect his friend. The officer says he'll have to come up with an answer later, since the ambulance and fire department have arrived. The firemen crank the door open and the ambulance gently pull the man out onto a gurney. Hannah and Tyler get into the ambulance not knowing what their fate or Jed's fate will be.
