Earth Region
June 12th 2017
This is based in a world that one of my classmates made up. They made the world with four regions that represented the elements (Fire, Earth, Air, Water). My character lives in the Earth Region which is full of slavery.
I woke up to the sun shining down onto my porcelain face as it did every morning. It was quite refreshing really. The sunrise was my favorite time of day. There was no work and everyone was still sound asleep which meant that I could go for a walk without being bothered. I swung my legs over my bed and slipped on my boots. I made my way towards the door; being careful not to wake anyone up. It had rained the night before and it smelled freshly of dew. I began to walk down the path from my house and took in the serenity of the moment. It would be a good day. I would make it a good day. Mom hadn't been in a good mood lately because they had cut down her earnings at the farm, again. I've been trying to make her happy, but nothing has been working. Maybe I could find her a nice flower for the empty vase on the table. I continued walking down the path towards the creek. The waters edge always had beautiful flowers. I trudged through the puddles and watched the water dance under my feet. I loved it when the water danced. It looked mystical. After walking through some underbrush; I had reached the creek. It had a beautiful fog lining on the shore. I wished I could stay out here forever, but they would find me. They found my dad, and he was punished by death. Nothing ever went unnoticed in the Earth Region. I walked slowly until I caught a glint of color on the water. My face perked up. Lotus flowers! Mom loved lotus flowers. It was too far out to reach so I started a search for a long branch. All the branches that had already fallen were too short and flimsy. I would have to find one that was still on a tree. I scanned my eyes over my surroundings and stopped when I spotted what I was looking for. A little ways into the forest there was a branch just barely clinging to life on an old tree. I trudged through the thick underbrush and attempted to reach the branch. It was too high up. Of course. I looked for a foothold and found a small branch near my knee. I hoisted myself up and tried once more. I had to stretch out my whole body, but I managed to reach the branch and I tugged on it a couple times until it broke free. I picked it up and inspected it. It was perfect. I walked back to what I though was the optimal position for retrieval. I stretched the branch out, but it was still unreachable. I scooched closer and tried again. Still too far. I went forward until I was on the very edge and reached out again. Almost there. If only I could just-.
Splash!
I went face first in the water. My body was enveloped in cold shivers and my lungs filled with earthy water. I frantically swam to the top and gasped for air; choking water out as I desperately tried to breath. Once I had calmed down I started swimming back to shore. I turned around before though and gathered the flower in my trembling hand. Otherwise falling into the water would have been pointless. Once I had reached the shore, I hoisted myself up and rolled onto my back on the ground. I layed there for a good 10 minutes and allowed the sun to warm my icy skin. The sun. My eyes widened in panic. The sun had risen. I was late! I jumped up and began to sprint back to my house. I was greeted by a frantic looking mother standing at the door.
"Victoria! Where have you been?!"
"I'm so sorry mom. I went for a walk and I-"
"A walk?! Alone?! This early?! What have I told you about going on these silly walks?!"
"I know you think they're dangerous, but-"
"Why are you all wet?!"
"I can explain."
She crossed her arms which meant I was in trouble if I didn't have a good enough explanation.
"I went to the creek, and-"
"The creek?! Exactly where I told you NOT to go?!"
"Mom I just... You haven't been in a great mood lately so I wanted to surprise you with a gift. I wanted to get you a flower. I found a lotus flower mom!"
"Oh really? Then how come I don't see a flower."
I looked down at my hand and frowned. It was empty. In my rush I had forgotten the flower. "I forgot it..." I said under my breath.
"I see." She huffed. "Go get yourself cleaned up and run to work. We'll discuss this later."
"Yes mother." I said through clenched teeth.
