What I LIKED about your book:
First off, I'll start with your narration and description.
Personally, I prefer, if the story is gonna be written in a first-person point-of-view, that it focuses only in one character. This is a special case to be honest. I really love it that you made two contrasting perspectives, offering two different windows into the story. One is, of course, Lilith. For me, Lilith's POV focuses on the more serious topics of the story. She tackles a lot of mafia screentime, working as an undercover FBI Agent. By her perspective, we get to see the positives and the negatives of the Armani Mafia, all while dealing with a lot of matured stuff.
Ricky's POV in the other hand, serves as a kind of comedic relief for Lilith's rather serious tone. His narration is more humorous and also quite sarcastic, and I find him that type of person who is really funny and quirky in personal. By his perspective though, we get to see a rival crime family, which's relevance I've still not encountered yet.
To me, the contrast really worked well. It balanced the story's very mature scenes and it's casual depiction of many serious topics, all while delving deep into two different important elements of the story at the same time.
The descriptions are fit for the story as it relies more in giving out the maximum amount of information rather than leaning into making the words and sentences look like purple prose. The detailing emphasizes the serious and mature background of the story.
The characters are developed beautifully, especially Lilith's. I really admire Lilith's character to be honest. She's reckless and it had led to her being involved in nasty situations. She's also very brave, but has a threshold, a limit, for what she can handle. Your depiction of her reaction towards Gabriel's assault deserve some praise. Your depiction of the emotional strain it dealt upon her was very realistic and very impactful. The way she just crumbled after the ordeal was very heartbreaking.
A praisable set of supporting characters also. In fact, there's a lot of supporting characters. ButI found these characters to be very useful to the story as they not only help the plot to gain more depth and to move forward, but also helps it in keeping it interesting, especially with the Armani siblings because I never really expected that at all.
The plot also was very action-packed and, based on my personal enjoyment, very exciting. There's a certain kind of action for every chapter and this really drew me into the story. All the build-ups are just very interesting and I'm literally speechless.
What I DIDN'T LIKE about your book:
Minor stuff only.
First is that it somehow was still a tad bit cliche; the set-up was. Undercover FBI Agents infiltrating Mafias are common set-ups, but I do hope you twist these in your favor and sprinkle some of your own uniqueness into it later into the story!
One minor thing also is that. I feel like Lilith's character could've been more explored early on in the story. Although I found her development praisable, she's still a little bit shallow and there's still characteristics that she still lacks. We've found some qualities the strong Lilith has, though it's not been thoroughly explored. I do hope her limits regarding her morals, especially if she's one working with the law acting as a double agent with those acting with crime, be traversed later on in the story.
CONCLUSION:
The story is a really good read. It's one of the books that I never expected to enjoy but still enjoyed anyways.
This will be staying in my library and I'll be reading further into this. I need to know a lot of stuff about a lot of stuff hmm.
Anyways, it's a great book indeed! Keep up the great work!
