VII
*Ruby's POV*
I park the car just in front of his house. I help him out of the car. We walk to the front door. I use his keys to open the door. "Oh god. Brother!" A women with dark brown hair and carmel skin says. Her nose is hooked like Tobias's. She looks kinda older. "I am okay, Tess." He says as we walk to the kitchen. He sits down around the table. "Did he cause you those?" She asks. A girl with blonde hair and chocolate milk colored skin comes running into the kitchen. "Uncle Tobi! What happened to you?" She asks him in a cute little voice. "I am okay, Anne. Uncle Tobi is okay." He says as he kisses her cheeks. "Well, you're?" Tess says as she turns to me. "This is my life saver. She saved me." He says with smirk pasted on his pink lips. "Hi. I am Ruby Clarks." I says as I offer her my hand. She pulls me into a tight hug. "Thank you!" She says as we hug. Her hug is warm. I like it. "Oh, you're welcome." I say as we pull back from the hug. "You shall have dinner with us." She says as she sits me down on a chair around the table. "Oh, it's okay. I will just go." I say as I get up again. "No no no! You will have dinner with us. It is an order not a request." She says as she sits me down again. She sounds bossy like Tobias. I grab my phone from my pocket and text mom that I won't be back for dinner. I place my back inside my jeans pockets. "You cooked? Didn't the stripper do it?" Tobias says as he looks at his sister. "Just drop it, Woods." She says. I wonder why his own sister would call him Woods. Two adults enter the kitchen. A man who looks in his mid-forties and a woman who looks in her mid-thirties. The man has the same carmel skin color as Tess. His hair is brown as hers. He has Tobias's same eyes. The blue ones. The woman is a blonde with a dyed purple hair. Her skin is light and her eyes are grey. She is wearing a short dress. That shows almost every part of her body perfectly. "What happened to you, boy?" The man says. His voice is tough and harsh. "Why do you care?" Tobias says as he rolls his eyes. "Manners as you talk to your father." He says as he and the other woman sit down. He sits in front of me. "Where is the food?!" He shouts as he slams his fits to the table which makes me jump. "Who are you?" He asks as he looks at me. "A friend of mine." Tobias says. "I didn't know you had friends?!" The woman says as her and the man laugh. "Your plate, dad." Tess says as she places a plate in front of her father. Tobias doesn't resemble his father at all not this other woman. I wonder if she is his mother. "This food is over cooked I hate it!" The woman says as she push the plate away. Tess is helping Anne eat. "Don't fucking eat it, then! Or cook something yourself!" Tobias says angrily. "Don't you dare talk to me like that! I am like your mother!" She says. "You are not like my mother! My mother is dead!" He shouts while his closed fists hit the table hard. "Enough you two!" His father yells. His mother is dead? Oh god. His father gets up and leave the kitchen. "Honey why don't you go and watch TV?" Tess says to her little girl. She nods and leave the kitchen. "You know why your father married me Tobias. To do your mother's job in this filthy house." She says. "Don't call me that!" He yells at her harder. "This house is filthy because you came. And he didn't marry you to do her job. He wouldn't have married a stripper slut!" He yells at her. She gets up and leaves the kitchen while muttering under her breath. His sister walks to him to hug him. "Stop it! Okay? Just stop." He says in a hard way. She walks out of the kitchen leaving us both alone. We are sitting next to each other. His face is between his hands. His knuckles are blue purple from hitting the other man. "What was I thinking. Bringing you here." He says with sight. I place my hand on his shoulder. "I like your sister." I try to make him feel better. He looks at me with toothless smile. "Thanks." He says. We both stay silent for a couple of minutes. "Can you not tell anyone about this?" He asks as he looks at me. His lips has a bad cut. It is swollen. His eyes are swollen, too. Bandages that I applied are full of red blood. "Don't worry, I won't bother ruining your reputation again, Woods." I say with a smirk. He laughs a soft laugh that shows his perfect white teeth. "You probably have to go home now, right?" He asks. "Yeah, probably." I say as I get up. He gets up too. We are too close to each other. Almost sharing the same breath. His sister enters the kitchen. I walk up to her. "Thank you so much for the dinner. I have to go now." I say as I hug her. She hugs me back. "How are you going home, Clarks?" He asks softly. "I will call Ash." I say. Even though I know that he won't come. A little lie won't hurt anyone. "Clarks?!" He says. Like he can read my mind or something. Like he knows I am lying. "I will drive her." Tess says. "Good. I don't want her walking around alone in the neighborhood." He says. I am kinda glad he cares. He is scared for me. I walk with Tess to her car. I look at him before we drive. He waves at me with a smile. I wave and smile back as Tess drives from their house.
We arrive at my house. "Thank you for everything, Miss Woods." I says as I turn to open the door. "Hey, Ruby?" She calls me. I turn to face her. "Thank you." She says. "It was nothing really. I just did some nursing." I say with a smile. "No. It is just... it is been a while since I last saw him laugh. Like actually laugh." She sights. At this moment I really do feel bad for Tobias. Maybe he is just acting so tough and like a jerk in front of everyone but he is actually broken right deep inside. "Oh, it is nothing. I am happy to help." I say with a smile. I turn to leave the car. "Ah. And please call me Tessa." She says as she waves her hand at me. I wave back as I watch her drive away. I like them. The Woods. Except for that stepmother and the father tho.
