Chapter 54

"I need my luggage. But I don't want to see or deal with Chris." Adam says as they sit in their hotel room.

"You find out where your luggage is and I'll go get it." Tim says.

"Like hell, you will." Chance chuckles. "It's best that I go."

"I agree with Chance. You don't need to confront him again." Adam says as he takes his husband's swollen hand and kisses it. "I'll call him to find out where it's at, tell him Chance is coming to get it and that will be the end."

"Sh*t. I just wanted to get at least one more punch in." Tim sighs.

"Tim." Adam chuckles and shakes his head as he reaches for the phone.

(phone call)

C- Hello?
A- Where's my luggage?
C- Adam? Are you out of the hospital? Why didn't you call me? I would have picked you up.
A- Seriously? Just tell me where my d*mn luggage is and Chance will come to get it. (Adam quickly puts his hand over his husband's mouth, knowing he was about to say something.)
C- You're not coming?

A- Uh, no. Why would I?
C- Cause you're my little brother. I want to make sure that you're alright.
A- Again, SERIOUSLY? I wouldn't have been in the f*cking hospital with a broken ankle if it hadn't been for you!
C- It was an accident, Adam, I swear.
A- That's bullsh*t and we both know it! Now. I'll ask one more time. Where're my d*mn suitcases?
C- You need to come over so we can talk.
A- You know what? Just f*ck the suitcases and F*CK YOU!!

Adam slams down the receiver.

"Well..." Adam says with a soft chuckle. "Someone needs to go to Wal-mart and get me some clothes."

~~

Wearing a new pair of jogging pants (something that would easily slip over his cast) and a tee-shirt that matched, Adam boarded the flight going home.

Chance had bought him several pairs of jogging pants to wear until he could get the cast removed.

Once the plane had taken off, Chance took the opportunity to get some sleep. Tim was exhausted too but had too much on his mind to sleep.

"You know that none of this is your fault, right?" Adam says softly as he lays his head over on his husband's shoulder.

"I'm sorry I can't provide a better life for you." Tim replies quietly as he looks down at his hands.

"Stop. Hold it right there." Adam says, raising his head and turning Tim's face to look at him. "I love our life, Tim. There is no place I would rather be than with you and living on that bayou. The bayou has become my home. The more I learn, the more I love it. And what better way to learn than with the man of my dreams my side."

"You're nuts." Tim says, showing no expression on his face as he stares at the blonde.

"I'm nuts about you." Adam smiles as he leans in a softly kisses his lover.

"Are you hurting?" Tim asks in a soft voice.

"Not too bad. My toes are cold." Adam chuckles.

"Well, if we were at home, I'd warm them up for you." Tim says with a slight smile as he stares into his husband's eyes.

"Really? And how, may I ask, would you do that?" Adam giggles as he lays his head on the brunette's shoulder.

"By sucking on them." Tim answers in a low voice.

"Oooo, sounds kinky." Adam grins.

"Please, guys, I'm trying to sleep." Chance says, causing the couple to laugh.

~~

Chance loads their luggage into the trunk of his car as Tim helps Adam get comfortable in the front seat. He scoots the seat back to give him more leg room.

Twenty minutes into the two-hour drive home, Tim was already asleep in the back seat.

"How are you feeling?" Chance asks quietly so that he wouldn't wake the sleeping Cajun in the back seat.

"It's....beginning to hurt some." Adam nods as he shifts in his seat, trying to find a comfortable position for his ankle.

"We don't have much farther to go." Chance replies. "So. Uh, what about your situation with Chris?"

"I'm done with him, Chance." Adam says as he shakes his head.

"But he's your brother." Chance says with a shrug.

"So? Brothers don't do that to one another. I mean, if Tim was abusive to me then I could see him wanting me to get a divorce. I would understand it." Adam says. "But, Chance, you know for a fact that Tim treats me like his queen. Not once has he EVER raised a hand to hit me. He's never cheated on me. I see in his eyes how much he loves me."

"True, I have to agree with you on that." Chance nods. "You can safely say that you have that man wrapped around your little finger. He was planning to drive all the way to Minnesota just to get you."

Adam smiles at the thought as he stares out at the beautiful Louisiana scenery.

"So did Tim ask you to come with him?" Adam asks as he looks back at the doctor.

"No, actually, I volunteered. We knew he shouldn't go by himself." Chance answers. "He stopped by to see if he could borrow one of our cars to go to Minnesota. He knew his old truck wouldn't make the long trip."

"Yeah, we definitely need a new car. I got the insurance check from my car that we had the wreck in." Adam says, turning his attention back to the passing scenery. "But we never really needed a second vehicle, until now. Tim's truck is in good shape but it's too old to trust on long distance trips."

They fall into a comfortable silence as Chance drives toward their home town. Adam watches the scenery passing by. He seemed to be seeing it with different eyes. The first time he saw the swamps, he would have to admit, it scared the hell out of him. But now, he was seeing the beauty of his home. The Cypress knees protruding out of the murky water, the Spanish moss hanging thick from the trees. The sight made his heart swell with pride. This was his home.

As they drove through Teche, Adam smiles as they pass by Hattie's. The little rundown cafe where he had made some great friends. True friends that would stand by them no matter what. Hattie, Joe Ben, Mark and now Bob.

"What are you smiling at?" Chance chuckles at the blonde's huge smile.

"I was just thinking how good it was to be home." Adam says as he glances around at his sleeping husband. "Back home with my family. Back where I belong."

"It does feel pretty good, doesn't it?" Chance nods. "There's a certain feeling about this place."

Adam reaches between the seats and rubs Tim on the leg.

"Hey, Baby? We're almost home." Adam says softly.

Tim raises up and looks around, trying to figure out where they were.

"Already?" Tim asks in a raspy voice. He recognized the road leading out of town. He knew every crook and turn of this old road.

"Yeah, you crashed right after we left New Orleans." Chance chuckles as he pulls into Rob's driveway.

Tim hops out of the car and hurries around to help Adam. The front door opens and Rob and Kelsey come running out of the house.

"Don't you know what a phone is for, Timothy Foust!?" Kelsey growls as she smacks the Cajun on the arm. "We've been worried sick about you guys."

"Well, there was just so much going on with Chris, I kinda forgot." Tim says as he tries to dodge her attack.

"Well, you can explain that to your little brother when you get home. He's called a hundred times to see if we've heard from you." Kelsey says as she crosses her arms across her chest.

"D*mn, it's great to be home." Adam laughs.
