Chapter 46
** A/N: As a lot of you might know, my husband and I just recently went on vacation to Grand Isle, Louisiana. Even though Louisiana was not in the path of Michael, a category 4 hurricane, it still affected the area. The winds of Michael pushed the ocean onto the island, creeks, swamps, and bayous causing flooding.
We left the island for about two hours to do some sightseeing. When we left, the streets were dry. When we returned, we were surprised to see this:
It was crazy! This is ocean surge! I had commented before I left that maybe I would get an idea for Crazy Life while in Louisiana. What we experienced here was just too crazy not to add to this story.
PRAYERS TO ALL AFFECTED BY MICHAEL!!

After taking much-needed showers, Tim and Adam lay down to take what Tim called a 'power nap'. Just a short nap to revitalize them to get through the rest of the day. But it was just enough to piss Adam off. Tim thought grumpy Adam was quite adorable.
With the guys hunting gators most of the day and the girls working on getting Sami moved in, no one was in the mood for cooking. It being mid-week, they knew Hattie's would not be busy so they decided to go there for supper.
Sami gave Dr. Chance a quick call to see if he and her brother and sister-in-law could join them. They were just closing up the clinic and she was told that they would meet them there.
Tim and Adam along with Satchmo lead the way in Tim's truck and Austin, Olena, Bailey and Sami followed in Olena's car. As they arrive at the diner and are getting out of their vehicles, Rob pulls in beside them with Kelsey and Chance.
There were no other cars in the parking lot so Tim figured it was safe to let Satchmo come inside with them. Hattie didn't mind the fur baby at all.
As they walk in they see Hattie, Mark and Joe Ben sitting at a table with their eyes glued to the television set.
"You guys open?" Tim asks when no one acknowledged them entering the restaurant.
"Oh, of course, we are, Sugar." Hattie smiles as she gets up from the table. "Y'all have a seat."
"So what are y'all finding so interesting on tv?" Austin chuckles as he gets a highchair for his daughter.
"The Weather Channel." Mark answers. "Hurricane Michael has just been upgraded to a category 4."
"Holy sh*t." Tim says as he and Adam sit down. Satchmo lays down next to Tim's feet. "That's not good at all. Where's it heading?"
"Day tank it gonna hit Floida." Joe Ben answers.
"So we're safe, right?" Adam asks.
"Not really." Mark answers.
"Honey, even though we are not directly on the ocean, the wind of the hurricane especially a category 4, is going to be pushing the ocean inland flooding the swamps, rivers, and bayous." Tim says as he lays his arm on the back of Adam's chair.
"Has your house ever flooded?" Adam asks giving his husband a worried look.
"It's only flooded once and that was during Katrina." Tim says. "We knew it was going to be bad so we left and stayed in Baton Rouge. It was still pretty rough there. Most of the time it just covers the porch. But we always place sandbags in front of the door just in case."
"But that alone is pretty scary." Austin says. "You walk out on your front porch and swamp is up to your ankles. Gators and snakes swimming around in your front yard."
"Well, if yo pa had listen to what I say and put da house up higher, you wouldn't have dat problem." Joe Ben replies.
"He wasn't my pa." Tim quickly corrects the old Cajun.
"I know dat Timmy, I sorry for what I say." Joe Ben says as he pats Tim's shoulder.
Hattie brings their food and they eat quietly as they listen to the meteorologist on tv. She sets a plate of chicken breast down on the floor for Satchmo.
"So when do you think it'll start flooding?" Chance asks.
"I'm sure you'd be able to notice the water rising already. The wind is definitely picking up." Mark answers. "By this time tomorrow evening, most of the roads will be flooded."
"Yeah, we can be thankful that we're not getting a direct hit. We'd all be in trouble." Hattie says.
"We need to hurry and get back home. If the water is already rising, it could possibly be over the road in some places." Tim says as he pulls his wallet from his back pocket.
"Put that wallet away, Hun." Hattie smiles and pats Tim on the hand. "Y'all just go home and stay safe."
"Are you sure? You can't run a business by giving food away." Tim says.
"I can do whatever I want. I own the place." Hattie giggles as she gently pats Tim's cheek.
"What about the clinic? Will we be open tomorrow?" Chance asks.
"No. We'll swing back by and put a note up on the door." Rob says. "If anyone is in dire need of a doctor, they know where I live."
"Adam, have you talked to your brother recently?" Kelsey asks.
"No, not really. It's been a few days. Why?" Adam asks.
"Jenika just seemed a little off for the last day or two." Kelsey says with a shrug. "I'm just wondering if everything is okay."
"Oh. I don't know. I guess I'll try to call him tomorrow and see what's going on." Adam says as Tim stands from the table and reaches for his hand.
"We need to head home Y'all." Tim says. "While we are still able to get there."
"Please be careful." Hattie says as she hugs Tim's neck.
"We will. Thanks, for supper." Tim smiles as he kisses her cheek.
"You're welcome, Sweetie." The older lady smiles. "Olena, do you have enough milk for Bailey? I've got plenty if you need some. She is on whole milk, right?"
"Yeah, she is. Luckily though, Sami and I got groceries today. So we should be good." Olena says as she gets Bailey from the high chair.
Tim and Adam get into his truck as Satchmo hops into the back. Tim chuckles as he rolls down his window.
"Sam, if you and the good doctor don't stop sucking face, we're gonna need pirogues to get home." Tim laughs.
"Alright. Alright." Sami giggles as she kisses Chance one more time.
"Call me when you get home so I know you made it okay." Chance says.
"I will." She says as she gets into Olena's car.
"Lord, I ate too much." Adam groans as he scoots over next to his husband and lays his head on his shoulder.
"That doesn't surprise me." Tim chuckles as he kisses Adam on the forehead.
They fall silent and Adam closes his eyes as he begins to doze off.
"Well, this ain't good." Tim mumbles.
"Huh?" Adam says as he raises his head.
Tim comes to a stop as he evaluates the situation. The black waters of the surrounding bayous had already crept across the road.
"That's scary." Adam says as he eyes the murky water.
"Stay here." Tim says as he gets out of his truck. He walks out to the water's edge and is soon joined by his brother.
"What do you think? Can we make it?" Austin asks.
"Oh, yeah. We can make it. It's just now starting. Another thirty minutes and this road is going to be totally under water." Tim says. "Just go slow. Olena's car is a lot lower than my truck. It could easily flood out."
"Okay. Just lead the way." Austin says as they walk back to the vehicles.
Satchmo barked as he ran from one side of the truck to the other. Snapping at the water as Tim drove through.
Both vehicles made it through safely. Soon they were pulling up to their house. Tim and Austin checked to make sure their boats were secured before heading inside.
"Well..." Tim says as he locks the door behind him. "Might as well make ourselves comfortable. We may be stranded for a couple of days."
