Mee Soyi
"Be careful!" I shout out to Suga, who was already halfway to the very top.
I was getting very anxious just standing here.
"Hu-Hurry down!" I shout again.
He disappears once he finishes the steep ladder. His tiny figure disappearing.
I was tapping my feet on the floor as I watched the huge bucket of water.
Nothing happened until a few minutes later. A screeching grinding noise echoes all the way down to where I was.
I quickly close the window.
No water was in sight yet and I looked up to see that the bucket hasn't even moved yet.
I catch a glimpse of something shiny outside and I widen my eyes.
Shoot.
I make sure the coast is clear before running outside.
I quickly examine the shiny object and notice it was Suga's keys.
He must've dropped it.
I shake my head and place the keys in my pocket.
A loud roar of water distracts me and I make the biggest mistake of my life.
I stop.
To look up.
+
A strong wave of water crashes on top of me and I fall onto my stomach.
Why H2O gotta be so strong?
The strong gushing water pushed me from my current spot making my frail body soar.
My jacket gets caught on a broken car part, giving me a few bruises and scratches.
The water kept flowing and flowing and soon it stopped.
I fell completely flat on my stomach and winced in horrible pain.
+
"You stupid girl." A voice so clear.
I was picked up gently.
"Stupid." The word repeated.
I wanted to punch the voice, but it wasn't wrong.
"Why the hell did you leave the camper when I told you to stay in there?"
I was laying on the ground again.
Suddenly, something lays down on my fragile stomach.
The pain increased and I grimaced.
I open my eyes and gasp for air.
"Soyi..." Suga was already facing me.
I couldn't make out his emotion since I was in intense pain. My vision was still blurry.
I continued coughing and I turn away from him while wrapping my arms around my stomach.
"I-I'm no-not stupid." I croaked and coughed again.
A hand touches my back and I flinch.
"Tell that to the bruises on your back." He says.
I let out a tear from the aching pain.
"It's...nothing." I squeezed out.
I slowly reach into my pocket and pull out the keys I managed to grab before. My shaky hands hold it up to him.
I manage to deeply chuckle.
I hear a sigh.
A relieved sigh.
Oh ok, so you're relieved about your keys and not your dying friend? Wow.
The keys were taken away from me, then a pair of arms helped me sit up.
Pain decreases on my stomach, but grows back on my lower body.
"You literally just almost died for keys?" Suga helps me onto his lap.
His lap was way softer than the ground, so I didn't mind.
"The water wasn't coming. I was just going to grab it, then book it back to the camper."
"Aish." He shakes his head.
He helps me stand up and puts my arm around his shoulder.
He opens the door to his camper and helps me in.
I sit down on the bed and bite my lip to hold back the pain.
"I don't have ice......or a first aid kit." Suga scratches his head.
I sigh. "It's ok. No amount of bandages and ointment will help this mess."
"You're right." He comes over and sits across from me.
I look away.
Embarrassed.
"You make me worried, darling." He says with a concerning tone.
"Wow. I'm very sorry for you."
"I mean it, Soyi. You must know that I spent 10 minutes looking for you." He leans back and crosses his arms.
I turn my head slowly.
Wow, even my neck hurts.
"I wanted to see your reaction. I climbed down to see you there, watching and waiting. You know, like, waiting for me like a wife waiting for her husband." He smiles cheekily.
I fake laugh.
"I didn't see you and believe me when I say this, but...my heart broke."
"Oh, my gosh."
"Really, Soyi. I was sad to see that you weren't there."
I shake my head with a weak laugh.
"I thought you ditched me. I thought you had enough of this crazy stuff and left." He looks down and plays with his shirt.
I shook my head again.
"Then I went out to look for you. For a long 10 minutes. I was hoping you were still around. And that....and that...." His gaze dropped.
I watched him with some sympathy growing.
"That my friend didn't leave me." He finishes.
"Awh..." Was all I could say.
"I found your body and I never felt real fear like that before." He leans back and stretches. "Never."
He cares for me.
"My heart never went through these many emotions. Just by seeing you gone.....and hurt."
He really does.
I sit next to him and ignored the pain in my lower body.
I rest my head on his shoulder and hugged his arm.
"You care..." I whisper sweetly.
"I try not to." He says quickly.
"But you do."
He was silent.
"Just a little."
