Chapter 19: Arriving at the Big Apple.
(A couple of days later)
(Y/N's POV)
It was a tedious drive, but I am getting closer to New York. After spending two days on the road, stopping only at one motel and the other night at an open Walmart parking lot, I would say this was all worth it. Now, all I have to do is find a nearby hotel, settle down, and look for work as usual. On Google Maps, it said I was getting close to Jersey City. But, along the way, I noticed that a car with its hazard lights on was parked at the side of the road, I slowed down a bit to see it was a Lincoln car and two people, a man and a woman wearing nice suits was waving to get anyone's attention probably. I stopped behind the car to see what was the matter, I got out of my car and the woman was walking towards me.
Woman- Oh, thank god that someone came to help.
Y/N- It's no trouble, what seems to be the problem?
Woman- It's our engine, I think there's a problem with it, but I'm not sure what it is.
Y/N- I can take a look at it, I have some experience with engines.
Woman- Really?
Y/N- Yes, let me head over there.
I walked over to the hood of the car, and, and then the man walked close to me, with him on the phone.
Man- Hey man, It's nice of you to stop for us, but I already got a tow truck coming to us to pick up this broken car.
Y/N- Oh, then I don't need to look at it, well is there anything I can do for you two?
Man- Yes, we were about to head to the Newark Liberty International Airport but then, our car's engine started to fail and we had to stop at the side of the road.
Woman- Then, no one pulled up to help or anything till you came along so once again, we thank you. But, we have no car to take us there. shit.
I thought about their troubles and I remember passing through the airport not too long ago, I think I can help them out.
Y/N- Say, I passed by that airport and was heading to New York so that I could help you two out. I'll take you.
They both had surprised looks on their faces.
Woman- You'll do that for us?
Y/N- Yeah, it's no trouble at all, I'm in no rush to reach New York City so I have more than enough time, I can't just let you two be stuck like this.
Man- I...don't know what to say but...thank you very much.
Y/N- Yeah, no problem. Come on, hop in.
The three of us went inside my car, and I put the airport's address on Google Maps and started to drive there.
(Minor Timeskip)
After some time of re-turns, getting flipped off by one driver, and some small but friendly chatter with the two people, we arrived at the airport entrance. I parked close to the entrance doors and the man looked at his watch, a shiny silver one.
Woman- Are we going to make it?
Man- Yes, we are. Thanks to our friend here, Mr...uhh.
Y/N- Y/N.
Man- Well, Y/N, it was nice of you to help us out and be such a friendly guy, so we want to give you something that may help you.
Y/N- Oh no, it's completely fine, I don't need a reward or anything.
But they didn't say anything and instead pulled out something out of their pockets, and it wasn't cash. Some small cards were colored black and gold and felt nice to the touch also had shiny diamonds to them.
Man- We are Tiffany and Co. Company executives and are heading to a business meeting with our clients.
Woman- We would've had to cancel it if we were late to it but you just saved our jobs and livelihood, so you have our gratitude Y/N. Well, we should get going. Goodbye.
Man- Goodbye Y/N, wish you the best.
The two got out of the car and headed to the airport, all I did was look at the cards and saw that the names of those two were David Newport and Jessica Sanders. I can't believe it, executives of the luxury Tiffany company. I was thinking to myself...
Y/N's mind- Holy shit. What a twist that was.
Well, then I guess I should try to get a job over there, It wouldn't hurt since I have these now, but I'm not expecting a front-end job, just something behind the scenes this time, and maybe, I won't run into any of the big dogs there.
I have a feeling...maybe not.
But I'll have to see and find out. For now, I need to find a place to stay, somewhere close to the main city. I'll look and see on my map. Now, let me get out of here and drive forward.
(Timeskip)
After looking around the map and searching for a nicer hotel, I found one named Residence Inn New York Downtown it was a 4-star hotel, and it had some interesting places to view so I decided to go and check in. I parked at their underground parking lot, paying my fee for an upgraded space to have unlimited parking time at this lot. I think it was worth it, anyway I went to the elevator and made it to the main floor of the hotel to the front desk. I talked to the desk receptionist and paid for my room's costs in advance it was a hefty 1000 dollars for two weeks but I could afford it, so I gave them the money and got my room keycard, got on the elevator went to the 6th floor to room 607. I unlocked the door and saw the inside of my room and it was nice as hell.

Way nicer than the others I have stayed with so far, I think I'm gonna like this city a bit more now with comfortable settings. I unpacked my stuff and took a look around the room a bit, and it was just as nice as the rest of the room. After my little tour, I sat down on the bed to look over the business cards again that the two executives gave me and saw there was the company website on it, plus their emails. I might not have the luxury of actually hearing back from them since they probably booked on emails but the info is there. I grabbed my laptop and went to the company website to see if there were any jobs available, I looked around and it was mostly jobs that require degrees and whatnot, but I did find one at the bottom on one tab for an overnight Janitor position at the company main headquarters here in New York. This was an interesting find so I went to apply for the job and filled out the usual digital paperwork, but when it got to the section where I was required to put in three references, I got a little worried as I didn't have any. Then, I got the idea to look into the cards, and maybe since I helped them out, they could put in a good word for me. Maybe, I don't know if they would even bother with that but you miss one percent of the shots you don't take as they say so I'll put their names in, but when it was time for the third reference, now I was at a standstill with that. It took me a while to think of anyone else I could add but the three on my mind I'm not gonna put because I don't think they would be happy I used their name for a reference, yeah probably not the best idea. Then, I thought of Marcus and we were cool that he would spill some tea on Amazon sometimes, and I would keep quiet about it. So, I decided to use his name as the last reference as I knew he wouldn't mind, after that, I finished the rest of the application and submitted it. I checked my phone to confirm the application had gone through, I logged off from my laptop to take a shower and I decided to spend the rest of the day exploring a bit of New York City before I started working again, I needed some fun after a long journey.
Y/N's mind- It's time to explore the city that never sleeps.
(Timeskip)
(No POV)
For the rest of the day, Y/N went to explore some areas of the city, taking in the sights, enjoying some local food, and experiencing public transportation for the first time. Overall, a relaxing day for him until he received a phone call from a number he didn't recognize, normally he wouldn't answer it as it was most likely spam but he felt like it would be something else, so he picked up the call.
Y/N- Hello?
"Yes Hello, am I speaking to a Y/N L/N?"
From that first sentence, he knew it was about the application from earlier.
Y/N- Yes, this is him.
"Good, I'm calling in regards to your application with us at Tiffany and Co., and to give a little more details on the references you put in. Now, may I ask how you got the first two names as they are our company's executives? Also, who is this Marcus to you as a reference?"
Y/N understood how the caller could be a little confused about that, so he explained the situation to them and how they gave me their cards and whatnot, after he did that, the call went silent for a full minute.
"I-I see, Mr.Y/N, and based on your resume, you seem to have a lot of interesting jobs and skills that could indicate that you know about the requirements of the position.
Y/N told the caller about some of his background experiences in janitorial duties and tasks he did and answered the standard questions that he had heard hundreds of times.
"Well, Mr.Y/N, based on your answers and everything I have noted down, I would like to have a second interview but an In-person one, would you be interested?
Y/N, being overjoyed on the inside, said yes in a heartbeat and the caller set up a date and time to show up in the main company's headquarters.
"Well Mr.Y/N, we look forward to seeing you then. You have a wonderful day now."
Y/N thanked them for their time and hung up on the call, he was so happy to already get a potential job here in New York. He headed back to the hotel to end his first day in the city.
Y/N's mind- It's time to prepare for probably the most intense interview I have ever had.
