Chapter 8 - Confessions

A/N: Thank you guys for the feedback. I love it and I apologize if the issues you pointed out are in my other chapters but some of the upcoming chapters have been in my drafts (hence why the writing style may still be the same as in the past) but I'm working on it and fixing those. I promise that I am. Enjoy the chapter 😊

⚜️Crashing Into You⚜️

What exactly is one meant to do when they come to realize that they are attending school with a vampire?

Especially when they may or may not have feelings for said vampire?

"Hey, why aren't you dressed yet?" Viv asks her niece in concern when Abby made her way downstairs, still dressed in her pajamas.

She hadn't really gotten a good night's rest, tossing and turning in bed as she realized that Edward Cullen was a vampire.

She's been completely thrown for a loop.

"I'm not going" Abby replies, pouring herself some cereal as Viv and Tia share a concerned look at this.

Abby never usually missed school if she could help it.

The only time she'd neglected attending was when Tanya died.

"Everything okay?" Tia asks her sister in concern when Abby added milk to her cereal.

"Yeah" Abby says, turning to face them before preparing to head back to her room.

"Abby wait" Viv comments in concern when Abby turns to face her, "are you sick? Feeling a little ill?"

"I feel...faint" Abby replies honestly, referring to the information that she'd discovered.

"Okay then" Viv says, deciding not to push for anything else.

Abby walked off while Tia watched her head back upstairs in concern.

"Looks like you're driving yourself to school today, kiddo" Viv says to her youngest niece.

"Nothing I haven't done before" Tia says with a shrug, going back to eating her food.

Abby didn't have 'normal' breakdowns like others, she would pretend that she was as fine as possible until she bubbled up like a volcano and then exploded.

The last time she did she had ended up disappearing for nearly 24 hours, having spent the entire day at the local forest.

She had claimed to have no recollection of what happened and that she hadn't noticed the passing of time.

⚜️Crashing Into You⚜️

Mei had called on Abby to check up on her, which Abby appreciated very much but she'd reassured Mei that all she needed was some rest and she'd be okay.

Viv was fast asleep, drained from her double shifts so Abby made her way out of her house, all cleaned up in comparison to that morning.

She closes the door behind her and started walking.

She doesn't know where she's going but she was sure that her feet would lead her there and so she walked and as she walked she started to realize that she was headed toward the forest not too far from her house.

The last time she had a mental breakdown she ended up in a forest like this so it doesn't surprise her that once again her feet lead her to the forest.

She walks until she felt like she couldn't walk anymore but still she walked, having no set destination in mind as music blasted through her earphones.

The forest all around her was covered in a thick cloud of mist.

When she feels the creeping inkling of being watched she stops and takes her earphones out of her ears as she looked around her, looking at all the trees above.

"I know you're here" she whispered when she paused the music on her iPod, "come out."

A few seconds later she hears footsteps and the crunch of someone stepping on leaves and twigs.

Abby turns to face him and is met by the sight of Edward, who had a neutral expression on his face when he drew closer to her.

"How did you know?" he finally speaks up when their gazes lock.

"Intuition" Abby replied, drawing closer to him. Neither of them says a word for a few seconds before Abby finally speaks up. "I've been thinking about everything you told me yesterday" she comments, drawing closer to him.

"And?" he asks, also making his way closer toward her.

It was as if they were being pulled together by a magnetic force.

"And I've come to some realizations" she replies.

"And what are those?"

"I know" Abby says, looking him in the eyes to show him that she knows his secret. "I know the truth" she informs him.

"What truth?" he asks, still playing at oblivion even though he can tell that she knows the truth.

"I know....what you are" she says the last part in a whisper.

"Say it" he says, "say it out loud."

"Vampire" Abby says as the word escaped so easily from her lips before they closed the gap between one another, gazes locked firmly on one another.

"Are you scared?" he asks her as she looked up at him while he looked down at her.

Abby found that she couldn't look anywhere but into his golden eyes.

"Should I be?" Abby asks in a soft whisper.

"I'm monster, Abby. A killer" he says to her, "you should be more than afraid. You should be paralyzed with fear" he concludes.

"I'm not afraid of you" she replies.

"You should be" he says when he drew back from her, looking like he was fighting an internal battle within himself about what to do next.

"Well I'm not" Abby says stubbornly.

"How did you find out?" he asks her.

"Your skin is deathly cold" Abby starts, "not to mention incredibly pale" she adds, "you have impossible speed and unmatched strength" she continues. "Your eyes change colour and sometimes you speak like you're from a different time. You never eat or drink anything and you don't go out in the sunlight" Abby lists things off, "It was really just about connecting the dots" she says in a breathless whisper when he backed her against one of the trees, looking at her in a mixture of frustration, defeat and awe as she inhales deeply at this with a racing heart.

Not because she's scared, but because she's...excited?

Nervous?

Shocked?

Awed?

"Your mind" he says with a humorless chuckle, "your mind is..."

"Silent?" she offered in suggestion, referring to what he shared with her last night.

"Marvelous" he says instead, giving her a pained half-smile. "Ask what you really want to know, Abby" he says sadly, "the main question" he comments, "what do we eat?" he says.

"You won't hurt me" she says to him. "You're different" she says, placing a hand on his chest but he backed away from her touch.

"You think you know me?" he asks her angrily. "You don't" he says, "you don't know anything!" he says, hoping that she'll push him away or scream or anything so that he doesn't want to draw her close as much as he desperately wanted to.

"If you wanted to kill me then I would be dead" Abby says to him.

He turns to face her, his expression angry.

He grabs her hand and started to lead her off and she was forced to follow him.

"Where are we going?" she asks him.

"Out of this cloud bank" he says, "into the sunlight" he adds, "you need to see what I really am" he says.

"No, the sunlight. It'll kill you!" Abby cries out in panic, pulling on his arm in great distress.

"Myth" he says to her when he turned to face her.

They stood less than a few feet from one another, their close proximity electrifying both of them.

"Hold on" he said before scooping her into his arms and running off with her.

Abby closes her eyes at this as he ran faster than she's ever experienced before.

He sets her down gently as she released the tight grip that she had on his shirt before opening her eyes to meet his golden pair.

"This is why we don't show ourselves in the sunlight" he said while she tried to catch her breath.

Edward backs away from her and she turned her entire body to watch him make his way toward a mossy tree stump that was struck by a stream of sunlight.

When he was struck by the sunlight his skin glimmered and sparkled like he had tiny pieces of diamonds on his skin.

"This is what I am" he says, his voice full of self-loathing. "I'm–"

"Beautiful" Abby interjects in breathless awe, causing him to frown at this as she made her way toward him in amazement.

"I'm a killer, Abby, why can't you seem to understand that?" he asks in a sad yet appalled tone, disappearing into some rocks as she followed him.

"Why let being a vampire define who you are?" she asks him. "You're different, Edward, I know you are."

"You believe the lie" he says to her, "the camouflage" he continues, "I'm the world's most dangerous predator" he turned to face her, "everything about me invites you in" he says, "my voice, my face, even my smell" he adds.

He flashes off, appearing behind her and then in front of her as she followed him with her eyes.

He lands on a tree that's fallen over and she whirled around to face him when she heard him land since he could move faster than her eyes could see.

"As if you can outrun me" he says, before flashing off again and ripping a large tree limb out of the ground and throwing it as if it weighed next to nothing, "as if you could outfight me" he adds. "I'm destined to kill" he says, appearing in front of her.

"I don't care."

"I've killed people."

"It doesn't matter" Abby retorts.

"I wanted to kill you" he says, "on the first day you sat next to me in Bio" he revealed.

Abby gasps at this, realising that this is why he had been so stiff beside her.

She thought that he resented her because of reasons like he's racist or something like that but never in her dreams could she have imagined the true reason.

"I've never wanted a human's blood so much in my life" he says to her. "I'm dangerous for you."

"Do you want to kill me now?" she asks him.

"Abby–"

"Do you want to kill me now, Edward? Yes or no?" she repeats firmly in a whisper, wanting an answer from him.

"I couldn't ever bring myself to hurt you" he whispers, "I'd rather...I'd hate myself if I ever hurt you" he comments solemnly, sounding like such a thing would be the absolute worst thing to ever happen to him.

For him, to hurt Abby would be like hurting himself.

He could never even begin to forgive himself if Abby was hurt because of him or even by him.

"You won't hurt me" Abby says to him as if reading his mind before he disappeared again, making her search around for him.

Only to find him crouching in a tree, looking at her like she's unlike anyone or anything that he's ever laid his eyes on.

He doesn't think that he can think of the appropriate word to describe what she truly meant to him.

"You took me by surprise" he admits to her, trying to compose himself, "I don't know how to...do this" he admits, looking like he's ashamed of himself.

"Like all good things" Abby replies, "with one step at a time" she commented wisely before he appeared in front of her in the blink of an eye.

"My family and I are different from others of our kind" he explains, reaching out to cup her face, fighting a battle within himself before tenderly cupping her face as Abby leans into his touch even though it's really cold.

A stark contrast to the heat from her face.

"We're not nomadic. We have a permanent home" he says, drawing his hand back from touching her, "We only hunt animals. We've learned to control our thirst" he explained, "but you–" he says before backing away from her slowly. "Your scent is like a drug to me" he adds. "You're like my own personal brand of heroin" he confesses to her.

That is both the sweetest and scariest thing that anyone has ever said to her.

"So this is why you hated me so much when we first met?" she asks him instead, pushing aside his comment about her being addictive to him.

"Yes" he admits, "Because you make me want you" he says as Abby blushes at this, "I'm still not sure that I can control myself" he says, his voice laden with self-doubt.

"I know that you can" Abby says to him in conviction. "You just have to believe it too."

As she looked at him she can't help but note just how full of vulnerability his face was when he searched her eyes for anything that could offer him a tiny glimpse of what was going through her mind.

"I wish that I could understand this thing you see in me, Abby" he says, reaching for her again only to drop his hand, feeling his resolve falter a tiny bit, "you look at me with those eyes and..." he trails off with a sigh, "I can't read your mind" he adds, "tell me what you're thinking" he practically begged her.

He has to know what she's thinking. No matter how mundane she may think it is.

"Honestly? I'm afraid" she admits to him.

"Good" he says despite sounding devastated by this.

"I'm not afraid of you, Edward" she points out, closing the gap between them to look him in the eyes to show her the sincerity in her eyes, "I'm afraid...that I'll wake up and this will all be nothing but a dream" she says, lifting her hand to trace along his jawline which makes him tense slightly, afraid of hurting her before finally relaxing slightly, leaning into her touch as much as he's able without losing control. "I'm afraid that you'll disappear" she whispers.

"You don't know how long I've waited for you" he says to her.

She smiles at this and he returns her smile with one of his own.

He'd waited over a hundred years to finally have someone in his life who could be the entire center of his life like he's seen with his family.

He nervously reaches for her neck and touches her as if he's afraid she'll shatter into a thousand pieces.

His hand brushes against her cheek next.

She drops her own hand from tracing his jawline before he lowers his hand and places it above her heart just as she'd placed her hand on his chest and this time he doesn't withdraw from her.

"So the lion has fallen for the lamb" he whispers, making Abby's breath hitch in her throat at this.

"Foolish lamb" she commented in a whisper.

"Sick, masochist lion" he replies as their gazes locked, their faces drawing closer and closer to one another only to be disrupted by Abby's phone ringing as she pulled it out, shooting him an apologetic look at this before picking up.

"Tia" she picks up, still a little breathless from everything that's been happening in the past few minutes.

"You sly fox!" Tia says, "you're totally dating Edward Cullen, aren't you?" Tia accuses her sister over the phone.

Abby's eyes bulge out of her sockets at this as she turned away from him to talk with her sister.

"What?! What would make you think that?!" she asks as Edward smirks at overhearing their conversation.

"He's absent" Tia fills her in, "and you're absent" she continues, "and two plus two has never equalled six" she concluded.

"That's your crazy talking, Tia" Abby says even though her heart was hammering in her chest, "where is the correlation between myself being absent and Edward being absent and us supposedly dating?"

"His siblings are all here so why wouldn't he be?" Tia challenges her sister.

"I don't know" Abby says, "sometimes he doesn't attend and they do" she adds.

She can hear Edward chuckling behind her, which makes her blush even more at this.

"No, something smells really fishy about his convenient absence today" Tia comments in a tone of suspicion.

"Forget fashion design, you should totally just be a detective" Abby says to her sister in a sarcastic tone even though Tia was actually quite close to the truth.

"Oh hardy freaking ha Abby" Tia says dryly, an echo to her words.

"Are you...calling me from the school bathroom?" Abby asks her sister incredulously when she hears the echo over the line.

"It was the only way to keep the gossips from listening in" Tia said like the drama queen that she is, "don't worry, I'm the only one in here" she reassured her.

"Yes, that's quite reassuring, Tia" Abby comments in dry sarcasm, "my absence has nothing to do with his absence" she says even though Edward is right there with her, "maybe he's just sick" she said as he continued to chuckle lightly at this and Abby turned to poke him as if to say 'be quiet'.

Touching him was like touching rock and if she weren't focused on her phonecall with Tia then she might have blushed.

"Uh huh" Tia says in a tone of disbelief, "or maybe he realized that you weren't here and he ditched because his girlfriend wasn't at school" she adds, "or maybe you two even planned to meet up in secret!" she exclaims as if she's solved a big secret.

"Don't be ridiculous, Tia" Abby says with a snort of amusement, "Tell you what, if I see Edward again I'll ask him why he was absent. In fact, I'll ask him specifically just for you since you're so concerned about his absence" she remarked, dismissing her sister's suspicions.

"Yeah okay, whatever" Tia says, "see you later weirdo, love ya!" she said before she hanging up.

Edward laughs aloud at this when Abby turns to face him.

He looks really cute when he does.

"Could you please not laugh" Abby says with a laugh of her own, "she's like a bloodhound with stuff like this" she continues, "I was genuinely worried that she had cameras in this forest" she comments.

"Maybe she does" he teases. "And if you don't want her to snoop then you should be the one to tell her."

"And what pray tell do I tell her?" she asks him, crossing her arms over her chest at this.

"You can tell her...that I'm madly, hopelessly and irrevocably head over heels for her sister" he admits shamelessly, making Abby blush at this.

"Oh I can already imagine how happy she's going to be that she was right" Abby commented with a groan.

Edward once again laughed at this.

The sound was so freeing that Abby found herself laughing along with him.

A/N: Once again, terribly sorry about the grammar and typos. Changing a writing style is really difficult when you've grown accustomed to it but I'm working on it. I hope that you guys managed to enjoy the chapter though✌️
