Chapter 16 - Prom
A/N: Above is a picture of Abby's prom dress.
Abby exhales deeply when Tia grabbed her crutches from beside her in the backseat and climbed out of the car, offering them to her sister.
Abby shoots her a grateful look at this, using the crutches to climb out of her aunt's car and being careful not to place too much pressure on her cast.
She breathes in the sight of her family home and smiles at the sight of it.
"It's good to be back home" she comments as her sister smiles at this, happy that Abby is happy to be back, especially after what Abby said when she left Forks.
"And we're glad that you're home" Viv says to her niece with a tender smile before Abby started to make her way to the front door.
"Mei wanted to have a big surprise party for you as a welcome back from hospital gesture but I talked her out of it" Tia reveals to her sister, "I know that the last thing you'd possibly want after coming from the hospital is to deal with a million people" she adds.
"Thank sis" Abby says to her baby sister.

Mei came to see Abby now that she was out of the hospital and she'd talked her best friend's ear off.
Abby was grateful that Mei didn't really ask much about WHY Abby left but unfortunately Tia told her (before her phone 'disappeared') that it was because of an argument with Edward so now Tia AND Mei didn't like him anymore.
All the more incentive for him to work harder to regain their broken trust in him, she supposes.
Abby isn't sure how Viv feels about him yet but she's sure that she isn't thrilled with the idea of him and Abby at the moment.

Abby sat on her bed, her foot elevated as she wrote her schoolwork with the laptop in her lap as Edward flashed into her room.
"Hi" he greets her sheepishly when his eyes land on her cast.
"Hi" Abby replies with a smile as she pats the space beside her, gesturing for him to sit next to her. "I've missed you" she says to him.
"You can't miss me like I miss you" he says, trying to joke and lighten the air.
His guilt for her getting hurt because of being with him still weighed heavy on his shoulders and he doesn't think that it'll ever go away.
"Oh yeah, wanna bet?" Abby teases him back.
"What are you working on?" Edward asks her, offering a small grin at her playful challenge.
"Just the Government assignment that was due last week" she admits, "I got a week extension" she adds.
"You should have asked me to do it for you, love" he adds.
"I can't have you write my homework for me" Abby says amusedly, "our academic vernacular is probably totally different" she adds. "You probably get straight As" she says.
"Being alive for over a hundred years does have some advantages and benefits" he teases as Abby snorts at this.
"Totally unfair by the way" she teases, nudging him a little as he chuckles softly at this.
"Let me help you" he says, "I don't have to do the work for you but I can help you with it, surely?"
"I guess I can allow that" Abby says as she showed him the assignment and what it required from her.
Edward dived almost immediately into the subject matter as he helped her when they debated the topic and approaches to the question.
Abby likes that he doesn't outright give her the right answers but encourages her to search them out for herself whilst steering her in the right direction.
"Has anyone told you that you're the world's best boyfriend?" she asks him with a grin when she closed her laptop after finishing the assignment.
"I've heard it being said by my beautiful girlfriend once or twice" he teased, taking the laptop from her and placing it on her study desk, thereby ultimately saving her the time and effort of rising from her bed and putting it aside herself.
"Well whoever she is, she chose right" she says to him.
"Your sister's coming" he says before disappearing in the blink of an eye as Tia knocked on her door.
"Abby? Can I come in?" she asks her sister.
"Sure" Abby says as Tia walked in. "Hey" she greets with a smile, "what's up?"
"I just wanted to check up on you" Tia says sheepishly as she wrung her hands. "Make sure you don't need my help with anything" she admits.
"No" Abby says as she shakes her head at this, "but I'll tell you if I need anything, sis" she promises. Tia nods at this as she headed for the door only to freeze in her steps.
"Abby, you know that you can talk to me about anything, right?" she asks her sister as Abby nods at this. "If you ever want to talk about...whatever caused you and Edward to fight in the first place then just call me and I'll come running" she comments.
"I know" Abby says with a smile. "Thanks Tia, I appreciate that" she says as Tia nods at this, shooting her one last smile before closing the door behind her as Edward made his way back into the room.
"Your sister thinks that you need to break up with me" he reveals sadly.
"She's just upset because she doesn't know the truth" Abby reassures him.
"Maybe she's right" Edward says as Abby's eyes widen at this. "Maybe if–"
"No" Abby protests immediately, "don't...don't even say that" she cuts him off, "nothing would hurt me more than to break up with you, Edward" she says solemnly.
"You got seriously injured because of me, love" he replies. "You could have died and I wouldn't have been able to do anything to stop it" he says as he runs his hand through his hair, messing it up as he sighs heavily in distress at the thought of getting to her too late and her lying dead on the ground, with James having drained her dry.
"Stop it" she chastises him when she sees that he was deep in his thoughts, probably thinking of something really depressing. "I'm here. I'm safe and I love you" she says as Edward looks at her in surprise at this as she also looked back at him in shock at saying the words out loud.
"You do?" he asks her, trying to keep the jovial glint from his golden brown eyes.
"O-Of course I do" Abby admits with an embarrassed flush. She's never loved any guy the way that she loves him.
"Oh Abby you don't know how happy it makes me to hear you say that" he says to her as he kneeled beside her and took her hand into his own, kissing it. "I love you too" he admits to her, "madly, passionately, powerfully and irrevocably" he adds as Abby flushed at this.
"All of these adjectives just to describe your love for little ol' me?" she asks teasingly.
"And so many more" he replies, "we simply don't have the time for you to hear all of them" he adds with a grin as Abby beamed at him, feeling more in love with him than she's ever been – if such a thing is even possible.
⚜️Crashing Into You⚜️
"Oh baby, look at you" Viv says with a gasp when she stood near the stairway, next to Edward who held a corsage in his hands as they both watched Tia help her sister down the stairs, which was a little difficult to navigate due to Abby's cast.
That was part of the reason Tia suggested a dress with a slit so that Abby didn't trip over her dress and further injure herself.
"Not too shabby?" Abby asks with a nervous chuckle when her aunt took a picture with her camera.
"Aunt Viv, at least give us a heads up before you blind us!" Tia whines as the other three chuckle at her overdramatic nature. "Come and claim your place by your lady, Edward" she remarks, making her way down the stairs as he ascended them.
Things between the two of them were still super tense when Viv wasn't present – Abby had asked them to at least try and be civil in front of Viv.
"Oh look at that" Viv gushes before snapping a few more pictures when Edward stood next to Abby. "Now put the corsage on her, Edward!" she commented excitedly, which Tia snorted at as Edward put the corsage on Abby's wrist, causing her to beam up at him as Viv snapped the picture. "Oh look at this!" she says, showing the picture to Tia.
She has to admit her sister and Edward looked well and truly in love in the picture.
Edward then helped Abby down the rest of the stairs like the gentleman that he is while Viv took more pictures of this.
"Slow it down there paparazzo" Tia teases her aunt.
"Oh hush, Chatterbox" Viv says to her niece, "these pictures are memories" she says in her defense as she continued to snap a few more pictures of Abby and Edward.
Abby rests her head on Edward's arm while Tia took a picture of them. Looking at the picture she realized that her sister truly loved Edward and trusted him, even after everything that happened between them.
Which begged the question of what caused them to argue in the first place?
"Now let's take a few outside!" Viv adds enthusiastically, making Abby groan as Edward chuckled at this, resting a hand on the back of her dress and helping her out of the house.
⚜️Crashing Into You⚜️
"Why did I let you talk me into this again?" Abby questions Edward with a groan when he stopped his car near the entrance of the inn where their prom would be taking place so that she can get out and wait for him while he went to go and park his car.
"Because I'm your boyfriend and you love me?" he teases with a smile.
"Guess again" she teases him back, making him chuckle at this as he went to go and open the door for her, gently helping her out of the car, causing Abby to beam up at him.
"I'll be right back, love. I promise" he says to her as she nods at this and went to go sit by the bench while he drove off to go and park the car.
"Abby!" someone shouts from behind her, causing her to turn and face the source only to smile happily when she sees that it was Jacob, who was making his way toward her.
She can't help noting that his hair had grown longer since the last time that she saw him months ago.
"Hey Jacob!" she greets him with a smile, moving to rise and greet him only for him to shake his head and gesture for her to remain seated.
"You look beautiful" he says, blushing a bit.
"Thanks" Abby says, "you don't look so bad yourself" she says as she nudges him playfully as he chuckles at this, "so what are you doing here? You going to crash the prom?" she asks him.
His smile falls a bit at this question.
"Actually" he starts sheepishly, "it was my dad who paid me to come talk to you" he admits, surprising her as she's never met his father before. "$20" he revealed.
"O-kay" she says as she dragged the word out, "so what's up?"
"Do you promise not to get mad?" he asks her.
"Okay sure" Abby says with a nod, curious to hear what he has to say.
"He wants you to break up with your boyfriend" he says, shocking Abby at this. "He said uh – quote, we'll be watching you" he adds sheepishly.
She's sure that Jacob doesn't believe the stories about his family but Abby knows that they are the truth. She could feel it.
Jacob laughs nervously at this, unsure what his father means by his words as Abby offers Jacob a gentle smile at this.
"Uh...o-kay" she says with an awkward nod, unsure of what to say, "tell him to pay up" she says, making reference to the $20 that Billy owes him as Jacob nods with a chuckle at this.
"Okay" he nods, "Abby, let me help you" he says, moving to help her up from her seat only for Edward to smoothly cut in and beat him to it.
"Jacob" Edward greets him as Jake's smile drops instantly at the sight of Edward, causing Abby to look between them curiously, "I'll take it from here" he says as Jacob glared at him.
"I guess I'll see you around, Abby" he directs to her as she nods to this with a smile.
"I guess so. Bye Jacob" she replies when Edward takes her arm and he led her to the entrance.
Abby turns to look over her shoulder and sees Jacob watching them before turning and heading off as she also turned to face ahead of her again.
"I leave you alone for two minutes and the wolves descend" Edward says, his tone slightly teasing.
"We met through Mei" Abby replies, "no need to get so jealous" she says, beaming up at him as he led her through the entrance and to the backyard of the inn where their prom is taking place.
The decor was very well done and was in line with the prom theme which is Monte Carlo.
There were gaming tables and roulette wheels all set up. Guys wore tuxes and girls were dressed in gorgeous gowns.
"Nice" she comments when she looked all around them, "Eric and the prom committe really did a great job" she praises as Edward agrees with a nod.
They walked the red carpet that led them to the photographer that was hired to take all their pictures.
"Are you glad yet that you came?" he asks her.
"I think I still need a little convincing" Abby replies when they posed for their picture before making their way toward everyone else.
Abby giggles a bit when Edward easily lifts her by the waist so that she won't have to climb the stairs. "Could you at least try and be a little subtle!" she chastises with a little giggle, making Edward also chuckle at this.
"That was subtle" he says in playful defense.
"That was about as subtle as painting your skin blue" she retorts before her eyes land on everyone else.
She spots Alice, Jasper, Rosalie and Emmett standing together as usual and Alice waves to her with a happy smile which Abby returns.
They all looked beyond stunning as always.
Abby still has a long way to go with Rosalie given how the blonde threw her a look of indifference while Emmett waved like Alice had done as Jasper merely inclined his head toward them.
People were dancing happily which Abby smirked at.
"You're trying to kill me, aren't you?" she asks Edward teasingly.
"Prom is an important rite of passage and I didn't want you to miss it" he replies, "besides, your aunt and sister are both happy that I managed to convince you to come" he says.
They spot Jess and Mike who came together and both of them stood before an Aston Martin cutout as Mike did his best Bond impersonation while Jess poses like his Bond girl.
Abby waves to them as they waved back. Mike actually looked happy to be there and less of his surly self whenever he sees Abby with Edward and Abby's grateful for it.
"Hey Abby" some girl greets her. Abby greeted her back with a smile as more people said their hellos.
"I didn't know that I was dating the most popular girl in school" Edward teases good-naturedly.
"As if" Abby says with a snort and a playful eyeroll.
"Abby!" Eric greets her from his place behind the dj booth with Angela by his side. Abby waved back to them with a smile, happy that they came together.
"You wanna go outside?" Edward asks her after she's said her hellos to her friends.
"Oh thank God, I thought you'd never ask" she says in relief.
Edward chuckles at this as they made their way outside to the gazebo which was decorated in beautiful faerie lights.
She much rather preferred the gazebo in comparison to the noisiness of the dancefloor where everyone else was dancing.
"Shall we?" Edward asks her. There were two other couples who were dancing around them.
"If I step on your toes then it's your own fault for making me come" she says to him when she takes his hand right before he subtly picks her up and places her feet atop his own and starts to move with her.
"See? You're dancing?" he says with a cheeky smile as she smiles up at him.
"Yeah, yeah, but don't get used to it" she says to him as his smile grows at this as he stared down at her.
"Is this so bad?" he asks her.
"No, it's actually quite nice" she admits to him before her smile falls a bit as she sighs softly.
"What's wrong, love?" he asks in concern.
"Why did you save me?" she asks him as he arches a confused brow at this, "if you'd let the venom spread then I could have been like you by now" she says as Edward stops their dancing at this, looking at her in worry and horror.
"You don't know what you're saying, Abby" he says in a whisper, "you don't want this" he whispers.
"I want you" she says, "always" she remarks.
"I don't want to be the one to end your life for you" he says, sounding a little angered by her words.
"But Alice said that she already saw it" she reminds him as she tries to defend her words.
"And like I keep telling you, her visions are subjective" he says.
The thought of Abby being a killer like him didn't sit well with him.
"Maybe not. If I'm firm in that I want this" Abby says stubbornly, referring to how she's thought about it and has decided on it.
The two couples that they were dancing with both left as they headed back inside, ultimately giving the couple privacy to talk without even realizing it.
"Abby, you don't want this life, believe me" he says, "to watch your beloved family and friends live their lives and die of old age isn't something I want for you" he adds.
"Shouldn't this be my choice to make?"
"And what about your magic?" he asks her, realizing that he was fighting a losing battle. "You can't be a witch and a vampire" he points out.
"Maybe I'm not meant to be a witch" she says with a shrug.
"Is this what you dream about? Becoming a monster?" he asks, trying to keep his cool.
"I dream about being with you forever" she corrects him.
"You really want this?"
"Yes" Abby says stubbornly.
Edward dips her a little as he lowers his lips to her neck as she looks into his eyes.
"You're ready right now?"
"Yeah" she whispers breathlessly as his lips hover over her skin before he pressed a chaste kiss to her throat.
"You're going to have long, happy life with me, Abby. Isn't that enough?" he questions her.
"It is" she admits, "but eternity is still longer" she points out as he cupped her face and kissed her lips chastely as she kissed him back, proud of him for his control.
She drew back from their kiss to beam up at him as he returned her smile with one of his own as they went back to their dancing.
He whirled them around gracefully as they beamed up at one another, unaware of the burgundy pair of eyes that watched them from a window, vowing revenge.
Victoria.
