Chapter 12 - Abby Meets The Cullens

"Whoa" Abby gasps when Edward pulled into his home's driveway. Their house was out of town, between the Quileute reservation and Forks.

"You like it?" Edward asks her with a smile when he parked the car in front of the front door.

"What's not to love?" Abby says, undoing her seatbelt and climbing out the car.

The house was an architect's dream, with huge glass windows and a real modern look to it.

"Let's go in and see the inside" Edward suggest to her with a smile before they headed toward the front door as she took in the house in awe.

Edward opens the door for her as she stepped inside and if she thought that the exterior of the house was gorgeous then the interior was breathtaking.

They had high rise ceilings and there was a chandelier at the entrance and it gave the house a regal look without seemingly being too much.

The house is large and bright with walls of glass that look out into a river. There are historical objects placed tastefully around.

"So...what do you think?" Edward asks her when he sees her eyes scanning around the room.

"The word breathtaking comes to mind" Abby says with a grin, turning to face him, "and open, spacious and bright" she says in after thought as he chuckles at this.

"Were you expecting closed off, dark and a house filled with coffins?" he teases her with a grin.

"Damn, and here I thought that you couldn't my read thoughts" she says in a playfully sarcastic manner as they both share a laugh at this. "Are the windows tinted?" she asks. Edward nods at this.

"This is the only place where we don't have to hide" he says to her.

The sound of clanging causes Abby to turn to face the source as Edward makes his way toward her and takes her warm hand into his own as he led her to the kitchen.

Opera music blasts from the speakers as Abby and Edward make their way into the kitchen.

Inside are Dr. Cullen, Rosalie and the woman that Abby assumes must be Esme.

Emse was just as beautiful as the rest of her family with a heart-shaped face and beautiful dark locks of hair. There was definitely a maternal air about her.

"Abby" Dr. Cullen says in his smooth, velvety voice when he turns to face her while his wife made pizza. "Welcome" he says.

"Thank you, Dr. Cullen" she says.

"Call me Carlisle" he says with a gracious smile, "this is my wife Esme and of course you know Rosalie" he says as Rosalie tossed a salad, looking utterly disinterested in it.

"Esme is for all and intents and purposes a mother to all of us" Edward reveals to Abby as he directed a smile between the woman he sees as a mother figure and his girlfriend.

"He's just saying that" Esme says with a girlish giggle, "It's so wonderful to finally meet you, Abby. We're making you pizza. Edward tells us you're a fan" she adds with a sweet smile.

"Normally I would have told them not to do this but I heard Tia thinking about how she was worried since you didn't eat breakfast" Edward says.

"Your gift is so unfair" Abby says with a playful whine as he chuckles at this when she went to shake Esme's hand, "and it's really nice to meet you, Mrs. Cullen" she adds.

"Please dear, call me Esme" she says as Abby nods at this.

"We also got you some Sprite, we hope that's okay" Carlisle says to her as Edward chuckles at this when she whips around to shoot him an accusatory mock glare as Esme and Carlisle laugh at this.

"Since you can't hear my thoughts I'll say this to you out loud" Abby says, "I am so going to get you back for this" she promises, making Edward chuckle at this.

"You'd have to catch me first" he teases.

"Oh, so it's like that then is it?" she asks when she made her way toward him as Esme and Carlisle watched their playful interaction with smiles.

"In truth Abby you've given us an excuse to use this kitchen for the first time" Carlisle informs her when she turned to face him with a smile.

Abby watches as Emmett, Jasper and Alice make their way into the kitchen, landing gracefully on the ground after having leapt in from the window.

"Steely nerves" Emmett teases her with a large grin when he notices that she doesn't stir at their sudden arrival.

"Edward loves scaring me" Abby retorts with a smirk, "so I'm used to it now" she says as the other Cullens aside from Jasper and Rosalie smirk at this.

Jasper still looked as uncomfortable as he did at school even though Abby knows what he is and surmises that he must have the most difficulty with controlling himself around humans.

"Abby, I'm so happy that you're finally here!" Alice says excitedly when she hugged her before drawing back from her, "you do smell good" she adds, handing Abby the wildflowers that she was carrying in her hands.

"Thanks, I guess?" Abby says with a smile as Edward shoots his sister a warning look at this.

"Say hi Jasper" Alice says gently, taking his hand into her own.

"Hello Abby, pleasure to meet you" Jasper says in a southern drawl, though he still looked uncomfortable.

Abby doesn't extend her hand to him, not wanting to make it even harder for him.

"Hi" Abby says with a kind smile, "it's nice to finally meet all of you in a more homely setting" she says.

"So we're all just going to pretend that this is perfectly fine then, are we?" Rosalie speaks up angrily as all eyes in the room land on her.

"I wouldn't ever tell anyone about you guys. Ever" Abby says to her.

"You two being together is dangerous for you AND us!" Rosalie says to her.

"Rosalie–" Carlisle chides her gently.

"No, she needs to know, Carlisle" Rosalie says stubbornly, "the entire family will be implicated if this ends badly" she adds.

"I...I understand your concern perfectly and I acknowledge it" Abby says, realizing what Rosalie means, "so we'll try by all means to keep our relationship from ending badly" she promises, making Emmett chuckle at this as even Edward smiles a bit at Abby's mature response.

"Whatever" Rosalie says before throwing her hands up in exasperation and heading out the kitchen.

"Nice meeting you, Sabrina" Emmett says with a playful grin, making reference to her witch ancestry.

"You too, Hulk" she retorts, which sends everyone in the room into laughter at this, including Emmett.

"Funny human" he says to Edward before heading off after Rosalie.

"Come on" Edward says to Abby, "let me show you around the house" he says as she nods at this.

"I'll be seeing you soon, Abby!" Alice shouts after them in conviction.

"Can't wait!" Abby replies as Edward shot his family a brief glance before he and Abby disappeared from the kitchen.

He leads her up the stairs as Abby takes in more of the interior design.

Along the way to the top Abby noted a wall lined with dozens of silk squares with tassels, all of them colorful and different from the last.

"Graduation caps?" she asks when she realized what they are.

"An inside joke" Edward reveals with a smile, "we matriculate a lot" he says.

"I can't imagine anything worse than repeating highschool" she admits to him.

"The younger we start out in a new place, the longer we can stay there" he explains with a chuckle as Abby nods in understanding as he led her off, showing her more of the house before they finally stopped in a beautiful and spacious bedroom.

"This is my room" he reveals to her in an almost sheepish tone, watching her carefully when she took in the room.

The wall of glass doors opens up to a deck with the river beyond. There were floor to ceiling CDs lining the wall, along with vinyls, 8-track tapes and all else, including a gorgeous iPod stereo.

There were also books all over, with some of them on bookshelves and some not. There was a gorgeous sofa but that's about it.

"So lots of music" Abby says when she made her way toward his CD rack, "and no bed?"

"No. I don't sleep" Edward says with a light smile.

"Like, ever?"

"No nightmares, no drool and no snoring" he reveals as she studied the titles of his CDs. "You have any favourites?"

"My tastes are eclectic and all over the place" Abby admits with a sheepish laugh. "There was a time when I used to like writing my own stuff though" she admits.

"You wrote your own pieces?" he asks in surprise and awe.

"Yeah" Abby says, "but that was like ages ago" she tries to dismiss.

"When was the last time you played something that you wrote?" he asks eagerly.

"Oh no, no, no" Abby protests. "I would sound terrible" she says, "like really, really bad" she stresses out.

"Please?" he asks her, making Abby sigh at this. She can see that he sincerely wants to hear her play.

"Do you have a piano?" she asks with a sigh. He nods emphatically at this.

"I use it to write my own pieces" he admits to her.

"So that's why you wanted to play" Abby teases in playful accusation, "don't laugh at me if I'm really bad because I warned you" she says.

"I wouldn't ever" he says sincerely as she flushes at the sincerity in his golden eyes as he led her out of his room to the piano room. Abby seats herself in front of the piano as she opened it.

It was a gorgeous black Steinway.

"It's gorgeous" she says in awe, "I'm almost afraid to touch it" she admits.

"I use it all the time Abby so I assure you that you can use it freely" he says to her as he sits on the bench beside her.

"Let me see if I still remember this piece" she says as she glides her fingers across the keys as a way of testing herself, "yip" she says with a smile, happy to realize that she still remembers it. "Okay" she says as she exhales deeply before she starts the song.

Edward watches the smile on her face as her fingers glided across the piano keys. He can hear Carlisle remark about how it's wonderful that Edward has someone with a love for music that is almost similar to his own.

Abby shoots him a sheepish smile as she continued to play a piece that she wrote in what felt like ages ago.

Her reason for giving up piano wasn't anything sad or scarring but rather because she just felt like she lost the passion for it and even though her mom encougared her to write her music again Abby just didn't.

As she plays her piece it felt like she had never stopped and she felt the warmth that she used to feel when she would play.

Music and writing were her happy places and were places of wonder for her – places where she could get lost for hours and hours and regret nothing about it.

When she ends her piece she turns to face him and blushes when she sees how he was looking at her as if she's some sort of goddess or something.

"What do you think?" she asks.

"You...You were marvelous, love" he adds, feeling like the word isn't even an accurate enough description.

"Thank you" Abby says to him. "Now let's hear you, Mr. Cullen" she adds.

"I don't think I can quite compare after that amazing piece" he says.

"Please" Abby asks him, begging him with her eyes as he nods at this as Abby grins happily at this as he took over after her, playing a piece that almost brings her to tears. "Is that one of your compositions?" she asks him when it ends.

"Yes" he adds, "I call it Abby's Lullaby" he adds as she gasps at this.

"It's...It's for me?" she asks him in awed surprise.

"You are my muse, love" he adds as Abby smiles at this before taking his hand into her own and kissing it gently, shocking Edward at this but the feeling isn't unwelcome and actually warms him up in a way that he's not familiar with.

"That's the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me" she says sincerely when he cupped her chin to meet her eyes.

"The food is ready, Abby" Esme says, despite not wanting to interrupt the tender moment between the two of them as they turned away from their heated lover's gaze to face her.

"Thank you Esme" Abby says to the older woman with a smile which Esme returns before promptly disappearing.

⚜️Crashing Into You⚜️

Abby enjoyed the time that she spent with Edward's family as she answered their questions and asked some of her own, careful not to be too intrusive.

Rosalie and Emmett hadn't returned since they left so she sat with Edward, Esme, Carlisle, Alice and Jasper.

"Edward tells me that you're curious about your ancestry, Abby" Carlisle says to her.

"Yes" she replies with a nod, "and I'm also curious if you've ever encountered witches before" she adds.

"I have. Once" he admits as she sits up in intrigue at this, "it was in England in 1818" he admits, "the witches I met weren't all too happy about interacting with members of our kind" he adds. "Despite this however, they are revered amongst the supernatural community" he adds.

"Why is this?"

"Legends go that it was witches who created all supernaturals" Carlisle reveals to her, "thus witches are known as the mothers of all" he fills them in.

"Whoa" Abby says in awe.

"Yes, it's truly quite awe inspiring" Carlisle says, "legends have it that the first witch was a woman named Ajira" he says, "Ajira was in love with a man named Tumak but Tumak died a very sudden and tragic death" he further adds, "so Ajira used her powers to bring him back to life but he was not as she recalled and became the first member of the undead" he says, "the very first vampire" he reveals.

"So all those stories about Judas Iscariot being the first vampire...?"

"Myth" Carlisle reveals with a chuckle, "a myth fueled by the more passionate advocates of religion" he says, thinking of his own father who used to be a fanatic preacher back in London.

"This is all blowing my mind" Abby reveals to him, "you're like a walking history textbook" she says, "and I mean that in the most respectful way" she adds quickly as the other Cullens laugh at this.

"One tends to remember a thing or two when they have lived through it" Carlisle says with a good-natured laugh, to reassure her that her words didn't offend him in any way.

Abby's phone rings and she excuses herself from the room out of politeness even though they could all still hear her conversation with her aunt.

"Thank you all for a lovely day" Abby says to them when she returned to the room where they were all seated, "but I must be getting home now" she adds.

"Of course" Esme says with a kind smile, "we've all been so eager to talk with you that we haven't even noticed the time flying" she says, "please ask her aunt for her forgiveness on our behalf, Edward" she says to him as he nodded at this with a small smile.

"Also" Alice says before speeding out the room and returning with a lunchbox filed with the leftover pizza, "Please take this or we'll just wind up throwing it out" she says.

"I can't–" Abby protests.

"We insist" Carlisle says.

"Besides, love, we aren't really fans of...pizza" Edward says with a mischievous grin.

Abby smirks at the hidden joke in his words as his family all chuckle at this.

⚜️Crashing Into You⚜️

"They liked you" Edward informs Abby when they drove back to her house.

"You aren't just saying that right?"

"No, they all legimately liked you" Edward says, "even Jasper" he admits

"Really? I thought that he dislikes me" Abby says in surprise.

"Jasper has a harder time being adjusted to drinking from animals than the rest of us" Edward reveals without giving his life story away as it wasn't his story to share, "but he tries really hard. For Alice" he adds.

"He must love her" Abby says, realizing the undertones of Edward's words.

Jasper must have been drinking human blood before he met Alice but he switched upon meeting her.

"More than anything in the world" Edward says but his response has a double meaning, which Abby blushes at.

⚜️Crashing Into You⚜️

"Hey! How did it go?!" Viv asks her niece as she and Tia watched a movie together.

"It went great" Abby admits with a smile. "I brought some leftover pizza with me" she adds, placing it on the table.

"Damn girl! You're bringing leftovers already?" Tia teases her sister with a laugh when she opens the lunchbox and stole a slice.

"It's homemade" Abby says with an eyeroll at her sister's teasing, "Edward's mom made it" she adds as Tia takes a bite out of the pizza.

"Dear God" she says with a gasp, "this is the best pizza I've ever tasted" she says with a moan as she took another bite.

"It was sweet of them to offer you leftovers" Viv says, unaware that the pizza had been entirely Abby's. "What did you leave for them if there's still this much leftover?"

"They made...a lot" Abby says.

"I can imagine" Tia says with an amused snort, "Emmett looks like he can eat two whole large pizzas just by himself" she says.

"They were nice?" Viv asks, "didn't make you feel a little...uncomfortable?" she asks, watching her niece carefully.

"They were all welcoming" Abby says with a nod.

"Even the blonde one who was glaring at you at the hospital?" Viv asks, probing for more information.

She doesn't want her niece to be the victim of racism or anything unpleasant like it.

Dr. Cullen has never been the sort and she's happy that neither is his wife but she didn't like how Rosalie had been looking at Edward and Abby after Abby's accident.

"She even made me salad to go with my pizza" Abby says, aware that her aunt wouldn't rest assured unless she was 100% sure that Abby was okay and hadn't been made to feel uncomfortable.

"Well I'll be damned" Tia remarks in surprise.

"Language" Viv says to her youngest niece. "I'm happy that you had fun, sweetheart" she says to Abby who nods at this, happily watching TV with her aunt and sister.

A/N: And that's how Abby's meeting with the Cullens went. Completely different to the books or the movie but that's the point.

Also, the song I've attached to this chapter is from The Last Song but I stole it briefly for Abby to use but it DOES NOT belong to me.

This cover of it by Gerard Chua is beautiful and how I imagine Abby playing it. All of this aside, I hope that you guys enjoyed this chapter ✌️
