Chapter 1 - The First Day
Abigail Jones or Abby/AJ as she was known by family and friends climbs out of her bed with a sigh when her alarm clock goes off, signaling that it was time for her to get ready for school.
She and her little sister Tia have moved to Forks, Washington to live here with their aunt after their mother passed away from cancer a few months ago.
Their aunt Vivian or Viv as she liked to be called was also their godmother so she took them in to live with her in Forks where she and her older sister Tanya, had grown up.
When Tia and Abby were younger they used to visit their grandmother and aunt along with their mom but when their grandmother died they didn't come down to Forks as much since Tanya couldn't stand being in Forks knowing that she'd never see her mother again.
Despite this however, the two sisters still remained as close as ever and their aunt would usually come up to Phoenix, Arizona to visit them.
When Abby made her way out of her bedroom she realised that neither her aunt or sister were awake yet and like the responsible sister and niece that she is she decided that she would take a quick shower and then get started on breakfast so they wouldn't be in as much of a rush when they woke up.
Their aunt tries to be the responsible adult but Abby knows her aunt well enough to know that Viv was under a lot of stress because she feels like she doesn't know how to begin taking care of her two teenage nieces.
It seemed that overnight she had acquired two people to be responsible for and Abby realizes that this can be hard for anyone, especially her laid-back aunt who had always prided herself on having nothing that really tied her down.
It wasn't that Viv is irresponsible but rather that she had a more laid back approach to life and becoming the sole guardian responsible for her two teenage nieces was like her whole world got turned upside down.
None of them had ever expected that one day Tanya wouldn't be there anymore.
Viv had always been dependent on her older sister.
She'd always looked up to Tanya and so for Tanya to be gone forever without the possibility of ever returning was still hard for her to process.
Living life without Tanya was hard for all of them to get used to.
⚜️Crashing Into You⚜️
"Oh my God! Girls, wake up! You're both going to be late on your first day!" Viv exclaims, making her way downstairs and almost falling over as she multitasked with walking and trying to tie the laces of her sneakers as she made her way into the kitchen where she finds the two sisters already having breakfast. "You're up" their aunt says in surprise, fixing her scrubs.
"Uh yeah" Abby replies with a sheepish smile, "I made breakfast" she says.
Viv nods at this before she fixed her curls into a messy ponytail.
"I thought that we all overslept" Viv comments in relief with a sheepish laugh, pouring herself some of the coffee that Abby had made for all of them.
"You should know by now that Abby is an early bird, aunt Viv" Tia reminds her with a snicker whilst eating her pancakes.
"Just like your mom" Viv says before flinching slightly at this.
She shoots the girls a guilty expression that conveys her solemnity for the slip-up.
The words had merely escaped from her mouth beflre she could stop them.
"It's fine aunt Viv" Abby reassures her aunt with a small smile that was meant to reassure her that they wouldn't suddenly burst into tears at the mere mention of their mother.
"I'm sorry" Vi says, tears filling her eyes at the thought of her older sister.
It's just so hard for her to accept that her sister was truly gone and she can't begin to imagine how much more difficult it must be for Abby and Tia.
She turns away from them to wipe her tears away as Tia and Abby share a solemn look at this before Tia cleared her throat loudly.
"So...what's Forks High like?" she questioned, attempting to change the conversation which makes her aunt who offer her small, grateful smile for this.
Viv places some pancakes on her plate before making her way toward them, holding her cup of coffee in the other.
"It hasn't really changed much since... I was there" she replied, careful not to make mention of her sister again.
"They do have a cheerleading squad though, right?" Tia asks.
Unlike her sister, she was little miss popular and had been quite popular back at their old highschool in Phoenix too.
The two sisters were polar opposites.
Where Abby was more introverted, Tia was more extroverted.
Where Abby was a little more withdrawn, Tia was a social butterfly.
Where Abby was more into writing, music and reading, Tia was more into cheerleading and fashion.
Both of them had been immensely close with their mom because she had been a perfect balance of the two of them.
Abby could debate politics and foreign policy with Tanya while Tia could discuss all things fashion with her.
Their mother always listened to both of their interests with interest and would encourage them to pursue the things that made them happy.
She had been a renowned criminal lawyer in Phoenix while Viv on the other hand is a nurse at the local community hospital.
"Of course they do" Viv says with a light laugh, "I was a cheer captain, remember?"
Just like Tanya had been one before her.
"Hey, you can't blame me for asking" Tia says, holding her hands up in surrender at this. "It's a small school" she reminded them, making Viv and Abby snort at her overdramatic nature.
"You'll manage" Abby quips to her sister with a roll of her eyes as Tia shoots her a small glare at this.
Viv laughs at their sibling banter, something that she's more than used to seeing.
⚜️Crashing Into You⚜️
Abby climbs out of their aunt's car and takes her bag from her sister.
"Have a great day girls, love you!" Viv shouts after them.
"Love you too aunt Viv!" they respond in sync before she drove off as Abby exhales deeply when she took in the school building.
"It's now or never" she says, scanning the faces staring at the two newbies.
"Don't worry sis, I've got your back" Tia says to her when they made their way into the school building before the day started so that they could get to the administration office and get their timetables and school maps.
"You do realize that I am the older one of the two of us, right?" Abby asks her younger sister, looking at her from the corner of her eyes and shooting her a teasing smirk at this.
"Well damn, I completely missed that memo" Tia retorted sarcastically just before Abby lightly bumped her with her hip, making Tia snort at this.
They ask one of the students where the admin is and the girl whose name they learn is Mei is more than happy to show them to the office.
They make polite conversation with her and quickly find that Mei is quite the chatterbox and that she's also in the same grade as Abby, which meant that she may have made a potential friend.
Mei was of Asian descent with long black hair that framed a cherubic face and dark brown eyes.
She wore glasses but apparently she didn't wear them often, preferring to wear contacts instead and she claims that seeing her wearing her glasses was like seeing a unicorn for the first time — much to Abby and Tia's amusement.
She also had a hoarse, gravelly kind of voice but Abby thinks that it suits her as it was distinctly hers.
The elderly woman at the admin office is more than happy to help the two sisters, telling them all about how she knew their mother and how she was dearly missed.
⚜️Crashing Into You⚜️
"So what do you guys have first?" Mei asked them, still waiting outside the office for them when Abby and Tia made their way out of the office just as the bell rang, signaling the start of the school day.
"I have English" Abby admits, "with Mr. Mason. Building 3" she adds.
"Awesome, me too!" Mei informs them.
"I have Math first" Tia says with a groan, "if the teacher gives us homework then you're helping me" she says to her older sister.
"Yeah, yeah" Abby says with an eyeroll, even though she would indefinitely help her little sister.
"What building is your English class in. Maybe we can walk you to it" Mei offered to Tia.
"Thanks for the offer but I'll do it myself" Tia says to them, "toodles!" she says with a wave before walking off as Mei snorted at this.
"I take it she's an independent woman who doesn't want other people's help much?" Mei teases.
"Among a whole bunch of other things" Abby replies.
Mei chuckles at this as they made their way to their English class where Mei asked Abby a little about herself and Abby was more than happy to share.
She's just grateful that Mei's questions are standard and aren't too inquisitive.
⚜️Crashing Into You⚜️
Abby really enjoyed Mr. Mason's English class and even chortled lightly at his jokes, which everyone else had either heard a million times before, based on their groans — or hadn't understood at all.
Mr. Mason was rather young looking and appeared to be in his mid to late 30s with black hair and green eyes.
She'd been a little annoyed that he made her introduce herself to the class but aside from that everything else went great.
She'd already told herself that she'd probably have to spend the first day introducing herself to her new classmates and teachers.
"So...how'd you enjoy English?" Mei asks her curiously when they made their way to their next class.
"I enjoyed it" Abby admits. "Mr. Mason has a great way of explaining the subject matter" she says. "And his jokes were funny" she adds.
"The fact that you say that already convinces me that you're going to be the teachers' favourite student" Mei teases good-naturedly when they made they way down the hallways where people stare at them as if Abby is an alien species that they've never seen before.
"Does the staring ever stop?" she questions Mei.
"Sure" Mei replies, "sometime around the second day people start to lose interest" she commented teasingly, "unless you're a Cullen that is" she adds.
Why does the name sound so familiar to Abby?
"Are they like the residential rich family?"
"Yeah, pretty much" Mei replied with a nod. "And they're all like supermodel hot so...there's that too" she adds playfully as if the last part is just a mere afterthought.
Abby snorts at this.
"Maybe there's something in their water?" she replied just as playfully.
"Maybe" Mei retorts with a chuckle.
They make their way to Government with Mr. Jefferson in building 6.
"Mei, my favourite pretty lady!" someone greets when she and Abby made their way into the class.
"Tyler, my favourite handsome guy!" Mei retorts, responding in the same sing-song way as him and making him chuckle at this as he pulled her in for a side-hug, which she returns.
Tyler was an African-American guy with short, curly hair.
"So...you must be Abigail Jones, right?" he says when his eyes land on Abby and he gives her what he must think is a flirtatious smile.
"Just Abby is fine" she replies.
"Welcome to Forks High, Abby" he says as she gives him a grateful nod of the head at this before moving to grab a seat in one of the desks while he and Mei continued talking.
She could see him looking at her every so often.
"Tyler thinks you're hot by the way" Mei informs Abby in a whisper, sinking into the seat beside her when Mr. Jefferson makes his way into the class and Tyler made his way to his seat where he greets some of his other friends.
Mr. Jefferson was Caucasian and appeared to be in his mid to late 40s and was balding.
"Thanks, I guess?" Abby replies, making Mei chuckles at this.
Mr. Jefferson also made Abby introduce herself, citing that it was wonderful to have a legacy student at the school since her mom and aunt had also attended Forks High.
⚜️Crashing Into You⚜️
"Oh boy, 4 classes in and your sister's already sitting with the popular crowd" Mei noted amusedly when she and Abby made their way into the cafeteria for lunch.
Tia was seated at the same table as some juniors (11th graders) that Abby had seen in her classes even though Tia was only in the 10th grade.
She was surrounded by people who seemed interested in hearing about her and she chattered away happily with them in classic Tia Jones fashion.
"She's always been like that" Abby comments amusedly.
"Popular?"
"And social."
"Live and let live, right?" Mei replies when they made their way to the cafeteria line.
Abby could see some people still staring at her even in the cafeteria line.
She tries to dismiss them as best as she can, grabbing a juice, an apple, a cereal bar, a yoghurt and a spoon.
Mei on the other hand grabs a lunch tray and loads it up with a juice, a sandwich and an apple.
"Oh great" Mei grumbles halfway through her conversation with Abby, making Abby arch a questioning brow at this. "Remember when I told you about a family called the Cullens? There they are" she stated before gesturing to people behind Abby.
She turned to face the people that Mei doesn't seem to like, which definitely means something given that she's seen the other girl friendly with just about everyone they saw.
When she turned she sees some of the most gorgeous people that she's ever laid eyes on before.
There were 4 of them in total, two guys and two girls.
They were all chalky pale and beautiful with perfect, clear skin and sculpture-like beauty.
They walked with grace that Abby doesn't think she may ever come to possess in this lifetime.
There's a blonde woman who was so beautiful she made Abby feel like she was the ugliest person to ever grace the earth in comparison.
She was breathtakingly beautiful and she appeared to know it as she walked hand in hand with a big, brawny dark haired guy.
With them was a short, thin girl with a pixie cut that stuck out in every which direction but was no means untidy or unneat and with her was a tall, lean guy with honey blond curls and a bit of an uncomfortable aura about him as he walked.
"Why don't you like them?" Abby questioned Mei in intrigue when she turned back to face her newfound friend. "Are they snobby?"
"It's not that I don't like them" Mei retorts with a sigh, "I just don't see why everyone goes crazy over them, ya know?" she revealed, "I mean, sure, they're all model level gorgeous but so are a lot of other people, right?" she comments. "And as for them being snobby...not really" she states. "No one really speaks with them" she admits, "they tend to keep to themselves" she adds with a shrug.
"In a birds of a feather flock together type of way?" Abby wondered when she turned to face them again, careful not to stare for too long.
"More like in a 'we're family and no one else is allowed into our group' kind of way" Mei replies, "they are actually doctor and Mrs. Cullen's adoptive children" she revealed, "they all moved down here from Alaska two years ago" she shared.
"Alaska?"
"Yip" Mei says with a nod, "so the blonde haired girl is Rosalie and the big, dark haired guy is Emmett" she comments, "the short pixie-like girl is Alice and she's with Jasper. People say he looks like he's in pain and I'm not saying that I agree but I'm not saying that I disagree either" she added, holding her hands up in surrender as Abby watched the four when Jasper twirled Alice as she went to grab her seat. "Japser and Rosalie are the only ones who are biologically related."
"How the heck is it possible for people to look that beautiful?" Abby questioned aloud.
Their beauty was almost too perfect to be human.
"Maybe there's something in Alaska's water like you suggested?" Mei replied teasingly, making Abby chuckle at this, "people are kind of nosey about them because they're together" she revealed, "like together-together" she revealed, making Abby's eyes widen in surprise at this.
"As in couples?"
"Oh yeah" Mei says with a nod before she went back to eating her sandwich.
Suddenly it clicks in Abby's mind where she's heard the name Cullen before: her aunt.
She told them all about the nice and charming doctor Cullen that she worked with at the hospital.
Abby recalls thinking that her aunt must have a bit of a crush on the doctor given how she spoke of him as if he was truly awe-inspiring.
"Doctor Cullen must be like some foster dad slash matchmaker" Abby says, unsure of what exactly to say.
She can't really judge people that she doesn't know.
"I know a shit ton of people who'd like him to adopt them too" Mei says, "apparently everyone at the hospital goes batshit crazy over him" she said with an eyeroll.
"He's also really good looking?" Abby wondered, turning to give Mei her full attention.
"Oh yeah" Mei agrees, "my mom is also a doctor at the hospital so she sees this stuff" she comments.
Abby considers asking Mei if she knows her aunt as it's possible she works with her mom but Mei speaks up before she can.
"Oh look, and there's the final one."
Abby turns to face the last Cullen.
What the actual...?
He was gorgeous, there was no other way to describe him.
He was tall and lanky with untidy, bronze hair that had a reddish hue in the light and an intense expression on his face.
Not really a frown but not exactly a smile either.
He's the most striking of all the Cullens in her eyes, which says something because his siblings are all so breathtakingly gorgeous.
"That" Mei starts, "is Edward Cullen" she adds, "I call him L'Oreal 'cause of the hair" she revealed, making Abby cough to smother a laugh at Mei's silliness, "he's a total hottie but none of the girls in this place can nab him and that amuses the shit out of me" she says with a snicker as if recalling some memory.
Abby watched him make his way toward his siblings.
"Not for a lack of trying I'm guessing, given your laughing?"
"Oh yeah."
Tia made her way toward them, more than aware of all the eyes that were watching her walk when she approached her sister.
"Hey you two" she greets them.
"Hey Tia" Mei acknowledges the younger girl.
"Abby" she says to her sister in a scandalous tone as if she's about to launch into some juicy gossip, "tell me I'm not hallucinating" she says, sinking into the seat beside her sister and Mei, "do you see how hot the Cullens are?!" she gushed, making Abby snort amusedly at this.
"Maybe try and show a little restraint, Tia."
"I know what I want for Christmas" Tia said, making Mei choke on her juice at those words.
Tia gives her older sister a cheeky grin paired with a kiss to the side of the head before muttering bye when the bell rings.
"See ya!" she said, taking off before Abby can say anything else as she handed Mei some paper towels to clean herself up with.
"Is that how the kids are talking these days?" she asks amusedly in a teasing tone, shooting Abby a thankful smile for the towels.
"Would you believe me if I told you that she was actually being mild that time?"
"I think I'm going to like your sister" Mei teased with a grin.
