They both went to CalTech after high school, even though Spencer had a much higher IQ than her she was still extremely smart. Of course by the time Emma was finishing school, Spencer was getting his last PhD and first BA. Since they both always had way too much school work, they barely got time together so they decided to move in together to be with each other during their spare time. 

Emma's graduation was soon but she wasn't as excited as she should have been, Spencer had been acting weird for about two weeks and she couldn't figure out why. Spencer told her a while ago that he was thinking of joining the FBI academy and she got extremely excited, mostly because she was thinking of doing the same thing after graduating. She thought that maybe he was acting weird because of that but she wasn't sure.

One night they were on their couch watching a movie, Emma was laying her head on his lap and he was playing with her hair as they watched. It wasn't anything special but they both always enjoyed these moments when they were together, they were interrupted by his phone going off. He looked at it and smiled, texting back a short reply before putting it away "who was that?" she asked him, curiosity clear in her voice

"It was just Linds, she told me about something that Zack did" he replied, but for some reason she was a little suspicious of the way he said it "what'd he do?" she tried to brush away the feeling but couldn't shake it "uh he found my old satchel and got really excited so he decided to start wearing it as a backpack to school" "that's cute, he wants to be just like you maybe he'll even become an FBI agent" she smiled up at him

He just nodded in response "hey Spence?" she heard a "hmm" in response "are you upset that i wanted to join the academy with you?" he looked down at her confused "of course not, why would you ask that?" you sat up and turned to face him, shrugging "I don't know you just seem off lately and I can't figure out why" "what do you mean off?" he asked, curious but also confused.

she sighed and looked down at her hands "I mean... you have been kind of distant the past few days, you always seem like you're in your head and um." she took a breath before continuing "and you've been whispering on your phone a lot lately and smiling at secret messages. Look don't get me wrong I love you and I trust you, but I don't know we've been together for so long I guess I'm just scared that-" she started crying and Spencer put his hand on her cheek

"That what?" he asked, wiping away some of her tears. She laughed a little, without humor and shrugged "I don't know, I guess I'm just scared that you're getting bored of me and when i told you I was going to join the academy, you freaked out because you didn't want to be stuck with m-" at this point she was full on sobbing, she didn't even realize she had so many insecurities until now. He hugged her tight and comforted her until she calmed down.

She pulled away, wiping her tears and laughing slightly at how stupid she thought she sounded "I'm sorry" he smiled and leaned in to kiss her forehead "none of that okay, you don't have to apologize. I understand where you're coming from, I guess I have been acting kind of strange lately and I'm sorry for that but you have nothing to be worried about I promise" he took a deep breath to calm himself down before continuing, he was about to start when he remembered something "uh give me one second"

He got up and went to their room to get something, leaving Emma extremely confused when he came back she was even more confused and also kind of worried. When he came back and sat down next to her, he was extremely nervous and was stuttering almost like he was trying to figure out what to say. He took a deep breath and looked her in the eyes, relaxing at the sight of her smile and immediately returning it.

"Here goes nothing, I wanted to do this under completely different circumstances but honestly this might be the best time, tonight is exactly like any other night but i don't care because it's still perfect. Just being here together, I want to do this with you for the rest of our lives." she holds her breath a little, thinking about where this was going "I want us both to come home after seeing all the things we see at work and be able to forget about them the second we're in each others arms"

He let out one last breath before getting up and going down on one knee in front of her, pulling out a velvet box from his pocket which made her gasp "Dove, I have loved you for 6 years, 4 months and 23 days, ever since the first time I saw you and gave you that nickname. I have been planning this for almost a month now, that's why I was acting weird, I'm sorry I scared you but I need you to listen to me-" he looked her directly in the eyes and put his hand on her face.

"I love you more than you will ever know and I never have and will never get bored of you do you understand me, I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I want your face to be the last I see before going to sleep, the first I see when I wake up and I really hope you feel the same way or this is going to be a very awkward question. Emma Mills will you marry-"

Before he could even finish his sentence she had tackled him to the floor in a tight hug, she pulled away and kissed him "yes of course I'll marry you, you idiot!" he pulled her down to kiss her and put the ring on her finger. When they got back up and sat on the couch Spencer quickly remembered something and grabbed his phone "I gotta talk to Lindsay and Kate, they've been bugging me about details ever since i told them i bought a ring"

"that's who you were texting?" he nodded laughing "yeah, I've been constantly on the phone with both of our families. getting encouragement from mine and getting permission from yours" she smiled even wider and kissed him again "I love you so much Spence" he smiled "I love you more Dove"
