Time jump: 7 months (December)

Christmas was coming up and Emma was in charge of decorating the school before the dance. She asked, well forced Spencer to help her so that they could finish quicker. While trying to put up an ornament on the christmas tree in the center of the cafeteria, Emma sees someone waving at her. Spencer smiles "go take a break, don't worry I'll finish up the tree" "are you sure?" "It's alright, I'll be fine, now go" she smiled at his and ran up to kiss Josh, Spencer waved at them as they left to take a lunch break. The second Spencer saw that they were gone, he let his fake smile fall. He was glad that emma was happy with josh, he really was. She was his bestfriend and he wanted the best for her, but he couldn't help but feel sad watching them together. He's known why for a while but he hasn't said anything, he realized a while ago that he was actually in love with her. He never stopped thinking about her, every second of every day but he could never tell her. Telling her would only hurt her and that's the last thing he would ever want to do. Even though it hurt him everytime he saw them together. He sighed, shook away his thoughts and went back to working on the decorations. Emma and Josh went for a quick lunch and the entire time Emma never once stopped talking about Spencer and
how helpful he was being with the decorations. Josh had noticed that did that a lot but he never said anything about it. He noticed the looks exchanged between them, how they were a little tol comfortable with eachother, the laughs they shared, all the inside jokes, he noticed it all. He never mentioned It, he even tried to disregard it at times, but he knew that they couldn't go on like this. They had been dating for about seven months and josh knew in his heart that the entire time they were together, she was in love with someone else. She was in love with her best friend. As much as she denied it and would reassure him when he brought it up, he knew. So he decided on the perfect christmas present for the both of them, even if she didn't realize it right away. When they were done eating lunch he decided it was the perfect time to finally talk to her. He told her everything that he kept noticing and even when she denied it, he kept going. By the end she sat there confused but he just smiled fondly at her "i'm not mad ok, just promise me you'll actually think about what i said" all he wanted was for her to be happy and he knew that spencer would do just that and that he would treat her right. "I just think that it's finally time you realise what ive always known, you're in love with spencer Reid. It's ok and please don't try to deny it again, I want you to know that I want to still be friends but I can't stand around and see you in love with someone else anymore" "I've never thought of him like that, i mean he's my best friend" "yeah well trust me on this, hes way more than that you guys are both just too blind to see it" he smiled at her and got up from his seat, he kissed her cheek one last time before leaving and letting her think over everything. She just sat there, thinking about all the things he had said, did she love spencer?, of course she loved him, but the real question is, was she in love with him? She spent hours thinking about what to do, how she was feeling. She finally realized that she did in fact love him, she was in love with her best friend  wow that freaked her out. Now the real problem was, figuring out what to do with this information, should she tell him? Will he feel the same way? What will happen to their friendship if she does tell him? If he rejects her or even if he doesn't? She gave herself a headache from thinking about it too much. She decided that she was just gonna go see him tomorrow before the dance and she would know what to do in the moment. So that's exactly what she did, the next day they didn't have any classes together which was good, it gave her more time to prepare for what she was gonna do, or more accurately what she was gonna say. She went home after school and decided to get dressed for the dance they held at school every Christmas, she wore a red santa themed dress that made her look gorgeous, it didn't hurt that red happened to be Spencers favourite colour as well. She went to the dance and waited for Spencer to text her, telling her that he was there, when he finally did, she left the gym and went to a hallway that she decorated especially for this moment. ok so maybe she did know what she was going to tell him, she spent all day trying to talk herself out of it in fear of being rejected, but she knew that she had to do this, she had to know for sure. She even left a small surprise in case this went the way she had hoped it would. She texted him to meet her there and he came looking amazing. He was wearing a black tux that made him look a lot better than he usually did, or maybe it was just that that was the first time she really looked. He was also wearing a red tie that ironically matched her dress perfectly. The second he saw her she took his breath away, his eyes widened before he could stop them "what?" He snapped out of it and smiled at her "nothing you just um- you look really nice" she looked at the floor to hide her blush and laughed a little "thank you" she looked back up at him and smiled. They looked into eachothers eyes for a few seconds and its like the whole world faded around them, before Spencer broke the moment suddenly feeling a little guilty "so where's Josh aren't you guys supposed to be going to the dance together?" Emma looked down, suddenly nervous of what was about to go down "Dove? Are you okay?" She smiles at the nickname he gave her all those months ago "yeah actually I'm fine but um- Josh isn't coming, he actually broke up with me today" although that should be good news for Spencer, he frowned and went to hug his best friend. As much as he wanted to be with her, he wasn't happy that josh broke up with her because that meant that she was hurting and that's the last thing in the world that he wants. "I'm so sorry what happened?" She pulled away a little from the hug to look him in the eyes "don't be sorry, we ended on good terms. But he did have a reason for breaking up with me" he looked at her questioningly so she continued "he thought i was in love with someone else" those words felt like daggers stabbing his heart "are you?" She let out a little laugh "when he first said it i honestly believed he was crazy, but the more i thought about it the more i realized that he was right. Everytime i look into this guys eyes i feel like there are fireworks going off in the distance, whenever we touch or even get too close to eachother i get butterflies in my stomach. I always tried to ignore it because i was with Josh but i can't anymore. I love him and i want him to know" Spencer could feel himself break with every word she said, she must really love this guy, he thought. He put on a fake smile "so when are you gonna tell the lucky guy" she smiled and all her nerves just faded away "well actually, i just did" Spencer didn't understand what sbe meant but she pointed at something over them, when he looked up there it was. The surprise that she had left for them, she hung up misstletoe where she knew they'd be standing "well i know how much of a stickler for rules you are, guess that means you gotta kiss me" he smiled bigger than she had ever seen before, he was so happy and in that moment there was only one thing left to do. He put his habd on her cheek and leaned in until the space between them was closed with a kiss. When they finally pulled away for air they kept their foreheads together and their eyes closed. "I love you Spence" "i love you too Dove" they closed the gap between them once again and went in to the dance.
