After spending the entire weekend together making up for lost time, barely even getting out of bed except to eat, the couple had to go back to work and pretend like they were nothing more than best friends. they all hoped that their day would be filled with nothing but paperwork but unfortunately psychopaths never really cared whether the team was in the mood or not.

they gathered in the round table room, Emma obviously sitting next to her husband, and Garcia presented the case to them but they had to get to the jet before they could discuss anything. as the plane reached altitude they started talking about the possibilities surrounding this case.

"okay-" Hotch said, beginning "this unsub is picking up men from bars and taking them back to hotel rooms to kill them" they all open their files and start reading through them, grimacing at some of the gory details "okay this unsub is clearly a woman scorned" they all look up at Emma at her input.

"what makes you say that?" Hotch asks, though he knows she's right "well it says here she carved their wives names into their stomachs antimortem and then stabbed a screwdriver through their wedding rings, straight into their hearts for the killing blow. Garcia told us that all these men had a history of cheating or being macho men players and they all went to couples counselling for it, it seems to me like someone is taking revenge for these girls"

they all smile at her conclusion, Spencer's being the brightest, she was going to be a great addition to their team "very good, agent Mills" Hotch praised with a hint of a smile towards the new agent "now, at some point we're going to need someone to go undercover in one of these bars and try to find the unsub" they all nodded in agreement.

"i think it should be me, i give up more of the macho man energy and lets face it pretty boy could never pass as a player, he can't even get a girlfriend let alone trick our unsub" Morgan stated which earned a big laugh from Emma "Spencer? you think he can't get a girl?" they all looked at her confused, oh this was going to be fun, she thought to herself.

"you guys clearly didn't know Spence in high school" at this point he had his head in his hands, trying to hide his blush as he knew his wife was about to embarrass him in some way "he had the longest relationship out of everyone in our entire school, everyone thought they were gonna be together forever" the team looked surprised before Garcia, suddenly appearing on the computer asked "what happened?"

Emma smirked to herself before answering "he cheated on her" that made Spencer's head snap up "wait, wait woah, no i did not" now everyone was talking at once "you cheated on someone?" "what happened?" "how did she find out?" "why would you do that?"

until he yelled "enough!" at them all and looked at his wife "i did not cheat on her!" he defended himself but she just rolled her eyes "oh really, so you didn't kiss someone else and that picture wasn't sent to her?" he had almost forgot about that whole situation, she was telling the truth in some way he thinks, their relationship technically did end when that happened but they got back together.

"that was a misunderstanding and you know it!" he said with a laugh "what about what you did?" she fake gasped "me? i have never done anything wrong in my life" they all laughed at the pairs banter "Josh" he simply said and her joking tone slipped away as she pointed a finger at him "that was not my fault" he started laughing at her reaction.

"you were in love with m-someone else the entire time you two were dating!" he exclaimed making everyone else gasp at the sudden twist in the story "in my defence, i didn't know i was in love with someone else until Josh pointed it out when he broke up with me" he laughs at that "yeah, yeah, whatever helps you sleep at night Dove"

she glared at him in response "at least i didn't kiss y-the other guy while i was with Josh" she mumbled but he still heard her "plus Josh helped me realise how in love with the other guy i was and he even came to our wedding after with HIS husband might i add and even after everything we're all still friends and we gossip about our husbands together" he smirked at the end when Spencer's eyebrow shot up at the fact she gossips about him.

"wait wait wait, let me get this straight, you were dating this guy named Josh in high school but you were in love with your now husband at the same time and you never realised until your ex who turned out to be gay and came to your wedding, pointed it out?" she nodded in response to Emily's summary of the story "he told me i helped him realise he was gay, i don't entirely know if that was meant as an insult or a thank you at the time though"

they once again all laughed at her statement and then Morgan continued speaking "and you pretty boy, had a girl who everyone thought you were gonna marry, and then you cheated on her and got caught on camera? that's low man" Spencer rolled his eyes at the statement "no, thank you Dove for that terrible explanation of what really happened"

she giggled at his glare "you're welcome" she replied which made him involuntarily let out a soft smile at her adorable behaviour "it was a complete misunderstanding, what really happened was that someone wanted to get the highest grade in one of our classes because whoever did was going to get an award, me and my girlfriend always scored higher than her in the class so at some point i was grabbing a cup of coffee when out of nowhere this girl-i can't remember her name-" 

"Sara" Emma interrupted, of course she remembered the girls name "yes, thank you Dove, Sara just kissed me and her best friend took a picture before i pushed her away and sent it to my girlfriend, they knew she would break up with me, which she did, and that it would psych us both out enough to get bad grades on our tests that day"

"whatever helps you sleep at night Spence" Emma repeated her husband's words from earlier which made him snap his head back to her with a look she immediately recognized "uh oh" she got up and tried to run to the back of the plane to hide in the bathroom "come back here you little-" he stopped when he caught her by the waist and picked her up off the ground.

they both started laughing as he spun her around and tickled her until she couldn't breathe "okay i'm sorry, i'm sorry," he stopped as she said that and looked at her "he's telling the truth" she told the rest of the team who had previously been sharing looks of concern at their friends behaviour with the new, married, agent.

neither of them noticed anything as they sat down while the plane landed, it wasn't until the plane ride back after solving the case while Emma was in the bathroom that someone brought it up "Spence can i ask you something?" he looked up from his book and smiled at the blonde in front of him "sure J.J, what's going on?" he asked and she sat with him and sighed before talking.

"i need you to be perfectly honest with me okay?" he nodded and put his book down "are you in love with Emma?" his eyes widened at the question "what?" he asked and she sighed once more before continuing "Spencer i've seen how you look at her and how you've acted around her this entire case, you can't lie to us about this" he raised his eyebrow at that "us? does the entire team think this?" he asked

he was worried that they had figured them out before they had time to talk to Strauss about everything, turns out the rules on inner team dating are a lot more strict than they thought "Spence, she's married" he felt relieved on the inside but couldn't show it "i know JJ" she reached out a hand to comfort him "if something is happening between you two you need to stop it before it's too late and if it's only you who has feelings for her then you need to figure something out okay. i know that you're still hurting after everything that happened but she has a husband Spence, you need to let her go i don't want to see you get hurt and i really don't want to see her go"

he nodded and let out a small smile at the fact that what JJ said meant that the team was already starting to like having Emma around, he's so happy that they like her and have already accepted her as their own so quickly. 

that morning the couple came home to find their daughter waiting on them, after a long and tearful hello between her and Spencer she explained that she had gotten an earlier flight to surprise them. she had missed her dad so much over this time and couldn't wait any longer to see him, he couldn't let go of her that night so he fell asleep with his two favourite girls in his arms and a big smile on his face.

they were all finally home.
