[47] x's and o's (pt. 2)

You woke up unwillingly, and pulled the blankets even closer to you. A buzz on the bedside table alerted you to your phone going off, and you went to turn off whatever was trying to wake you up. When you brought the screen to your face, you saw that it was a text from Amy.

'Have fun at the reunion tonight! Make sure you send pictures of you two!'

Your friend's enthusiasm brought a smile to your face, and you rolled over to see that Ethan had disappeared. Sitting up, you saw that you had about an hour until you had to start getting ready for the reunion. When you left the guest room, you heard yells from down the hall. Walking towards your old bedroom, you quietly opened the door to see your brother and your boyfriend sitting on the bed playing video games together. Specifically, Super Smash Bros.

Leaning in the doorway, you watched the boys interact with an amused smile on your lips as your brother was clearly beating Ethan's character to a pulp.

"How are you so good at this?" Ethan groaned as the places were displayed across the screen.

"He plays this instead of doing his homework." You said, walking over to your boyfriend to ruffle up his blue hair.

The boys on the bed snapped their heads up to look at you, and your brother perked up. "Y/N, you should play with us!"

"She can take my controller, I'm done." Ethan handed it to you, scooting back on the bed to let you sit down in his place.

You accepted it, sitting next to your brother. "How many times did you lose, babe?"

"Ten times."

With a laugh, you chose your character, Rosalina & Luma as your brother chose Kirby. "Y/N, that character sucks! I'm gonna beat you."

"Sure, little man." You teased him as the countdown started.

Flitting your fingers over to buttons on your controller, you were slowly but surely beating down Joey's character. Finally, you had won with two lives left and Joey was behind you in second place.

"How are you so good at this?" Joey fell back on his bed.

"We have tournaments at the office frequently." You explained, and Ethan rested his head against your shoulder.

"Then why is Ethan so bad at them?"

Ethan replied indignantly, "Hey!"

"Ethan opts out of them almost every time."

Joey looked confused at your boyfriend. "Why?"

The blue-haired boy shrugged, wrapping his arms around your waist and pulling you closer to him. "So I can do this."

"Oh gross, heteros." Your brother wrinkled his nose. "Could you not do that on my bed?"

You laughed at his antics, and rolled your eyes when he called you hetero. "So how is Kyle?"

Joey's eyes lit up when you mentioned his boyfriend, and he immediately started rambling on and on about him. You smiled at how happy your brother was with him, and frowned when he said that Kyle's parents wouldn't approve of him having a boyfriend.

"I'll fight them." You stated, and both your brother and Ethan laughed.

"Thanks Y/N, but I don't want you getting arrested." Joey smiled, and went back to talking about homecoming, where Kyle went with his lesbian friend as his beard, and Joey went with her girlfriend so they could all get by the disapproving parents.

You could feel your heart being warmed by your brother's kind heart. "You make me so proud, little man."

He smiled, abashed by your words. "Thanks, Y/N."

Ethan's arms were still around your waist, and you lifted up his left arm to look at his watch. "Come on, Ethan, we need to start getting ready for the reunion."

Your boyfriend got finished getting into his suit long before you, and you'd already shooed him downstairs so you could finish getting ready. You took one final look at yourself in the mirror, and a smile crossed your face. You looked fucking hot.

Draped elegantly across your body was a rich blue dress, you made sure to choose a shade that wouldn't clash with Ethan's hair. You curled and pinned your hair into an elegant updo, and even decided to brave a pair of heels for the night.

Walking down the stairs, you felt like you were going to prom again; your family was waiting downstairs with your date, and you felt a nervous flush when you locked eyes with them. Ethan had to put a hand over his mouth as he looked at you in awe.

"Hi." You smiled, taking the final step down into the living room.

Your dad had his camera out, and was snapping pictures as you walked down. "You look beautiful, sweetheart."

"Thanks, Dad."

Ethan couldn't even find the words, and only managed to kiss your cheek sweetly.

"We should get pictures of them together!" Your mother squealed, clasping her hands together.

You rolled your eyes as you took Ethan's hand in yours. "It's not my senior prom again, Mom."

"You had a completely different date then." Joey snorted from the side, and you rolled your eyes at his comments.

After taking a few different pictures with Ethan in classic prom-esque style, you were finally ready to leave. Waving your family goodbye and promising that you'd be back late, you sped down the country roads.

The reunion was being held in the ballroom of a fancy hotel in a neighboring big city. When you pulled up, there was even a valet guy taking keys for the cars.

You felt so powerful stepping out of the sleek, black car with your handsome boyfriend. Ethan took your arm in his and you gently led him inside. Your feet were already starting to hurt from the heels, but you smiled a dazzling smile through the pain as you and your boyfriend stepped through the doors into the ballroom.

The party had just started, and you looked around at all the faces you hadn't seen in five years. One caught your attention, so you pulled Ethan over to them.

"Mikey!" You exclaimed, and the heavyset man in a suit turned to you.

He adjusted his glasses on his nose, squinting at you. "Oh my God! Is that famed YouTuber, Y/N Y/L/N?" Your high school friend said in a teasing tone, and you pushed on his arm.

"Oh shut up, Michael."

"I'm just kidding, you're not that famous." Michael laughed, pulling you in for a quick hug. "So how have you been, Y/N/N? We haven't talked in freaking ages."

"I've been really good, like you said, the YouTube channel has taken off." You then added Ethan into the conversation. "Ethan, this is my friend Mikey. We were in theatre together since middle school."

"It's nice to meet you." Ethan shook Mikey's hand, and then you spotted someone else.

"Is that Lorin Palmero?" You gasped, squinting at the girl across the dance floor.

"Yeah, she's lost about fifty pounds and dyed her hair blonde." Mikey said, and you nodded, you could totally see her doing that. "So have you seen Sara?"

You shook your head. "We just got here Mikey, I'm sure she'll find me eventually."

An hour later you were sitting at a table with Ethan, chatting amicably and removing your heels. It was too much.

"Are you having fun, babe?" You asked him, resting your hand on his.

Ethan nodded his head, offering you a smile. "As long I'm with you, Y/N." He kissed your hand cheesily, and you blushed a little bit.

"Y/N. Motherfucking. Y/L/N." A familiar voice deadpanned, and you turned to look at them.

"Ah yes, I forgot that was my middle name." You laughed, standing up to greet the girl. "Hey Sara!"

The brunette pulled you into a tight hug, and you felt a wave of emotions come over you. "It's so good to see you, again, Y/N. You're hotter than I remember."

"Jesus christ, Sara." You laughed, letting go of her to introduce Ethan. "This is my boyfriend, Ethan. Ethan, this is Sara, my..."

You were at a loss of what to call her, then Sara piped up as she shook his hand. "Her best friend turned lesbian lover turned ex-girlfriend."

"Sara!" You snapped at her as Ethan's eyes widened to the size of dinner plates. Sure, you'd come out to Ethan as bisexual long before you even started dating, but this was still extremely awkward.

"Oh, sorry. Does he not know?" Sara giggled innocently, and you were reminded of why you broke up with her. She was a manipulative bitch.

Thankfully, Ethan was able to find his voice. "Actually, I do know."

Sara turned to you, that same sickening smile on her face. "I can't believe you settled as a hetero, Y/N. I thought that I'd fully turned you."

You were boiling with rage, she had somehow become even worse after five years. Your boyfriend took your hand in his and spoke up again. "And I also know Y/N well enough that she doesn't deserve to be talked to like that or have her sexuality invalidated, and that she probably broke up with you because you're a massive fucking bitch."

It was your turn to be surprised, and you could tell that Ethan had caught Sara off-guard as well. She huffed and stormed away, leaving you to look at your boyfriend in shock.

"Thanks." You breathed out, and he smiled back at you sweetly.

The music changed to a slow song, and he tugged on your hand. "C'mon, we should dance a bit."

You followed him onto the dance floor, and rested your head on his shoulder, swaying to the beat.

"I love you." He whispered, pulling you closer to him.

"I love you more." You kissed him for a few moments, hoping that Sara was watching. Watching you be so utterly happy, without her.
