Chapter 7: Sky's Amulet

(Jason's POV)

I woke up early the next morning. I was an early riser. I rubbed Dillon's upside down head-he had slept on the closet's coat rack, but was now on the head of my bed for some reason. I got up quickly and Adam groaned in his sleep as the bed moved beneath him. Unfortunately for us, there had only been two queen sized bed in the room-no couch. Since neither of us really felt like telling Ty he had to share a bed with one of us, we had ended up together.

I opened the mini fridge and took out one of last night's slices of pizza, starting on it for breakfast. I laughed as I thought of what Adam had mistakenly called it last night—Prizza. Adam was a pretty darn funny guy, in all honesty.

By the time I was done with my 'Prizza', Ty was already up and took a piece of bread from the counter top. What did this guy normally eat, anyways? Had he been in prison or something? He seemed to never need to eat much.

I shrugged the thought off and started shaking Adam. For some reason, he always slept in his sunglasses. I shook him harder and eventually, he said something like, “I shoulda done YouTube.” I had no idea what that meant.

“Wake up!” I said, stopping my shaking assault. Adam sat up and yawned.

“Any pizza left?” were the first words out of his mouth.

“Yeah,” I said. “In the fridge.” Adam straightened his sunglasses and opened it, taking out a cold slice for himself. I looked at Ty again, putting his headphones on. He had killed to get those. I felt like socking him in the face just for that, but if I did it would no doubt result in me getting at least a black eye. I had seen just how good he was at combat.

When everybody (meaning Adam) had finished eating, I wasn't surprised when Ty stood up and said, “We need to warn these people,” and then left. Adam got a confused look on his face and turned to me. I just shrugged. I had the feeling that Ty was over protective of everybody, even people he hadn't met.

(Ty's POV)

Eventually, Adam and Jason decided to follow me. I had no idea how I was going to do this. It wasn't like I could just walk up to a person and say, “Squids are taking over, you need to arm your town.” I had seen just how well THAT had worked with Adam and Jason. Both times had taken proof-my gills, which I was NOT going to reveal to an entire town, and squids actually attacking, which wouldn't be all that great. And I had the feeling they wouldn't accept headphones as proof.

After walking for a while, basically trying to figure out what I was doing, I noticed a silence behind me. Adam had been chatting the entire way, bringing up the rear. I whipped around and Jason saw me and copied, looking over his shoulder.

Adam was gone.

(Adam's POV)

I had seen somebody beckoning to me from an alleyway, an expression of fear on his face. I probably shouldn't have done it, but I stepped in anyways, leaving Ty and Jason to continue the search for somebody to warn.

“Take this,” he told me quickly, handing me something that looked like a necklace. “And get rid of it; it's cursed!”

“Huh?”

“Just take it!” he repeated, shoving it into my hands. I blinked and then he was running away into the alley.

“Well then,” I said, watching the retreating figure. Forget the conversation I had had with Ty when I first met him; this was even weirder. I examined just what, exactly, this guy had given me. It was a purple stone of some sort surrounded by 'butter' and hanging on a thick white rope. There was nothing really special about it, so I had no clue why this guy had wanted to get rid of it. He had said it was 'cursed'. I didn't believe in curses or magic. Shrugging, I lifted it over my head and put it on. The 'butter' glowed faintly for a brief moment, probably just catching the sunlight. There was no reason to get rid of it or take it off, so I left it hanging there.

(Ty's POV)

“Adam? Adam!” I shouted, running back the way we had come. Jason had sent Dillon up into the air to keep an eye out for him. If he had gotten captured by squids... they probably had more advanced technology by now than giving somebody gills.

“Yeah?” he asked, coming out from an alleyway. I resisted the strange urge I had to hug him and instead said,

“Why in the world did you wander off?! Are you an idiot?!” Then I noticed what he was wearing. “What is that?”

Adam looked down at the amulet he was now wearing. “Oh, this? Some random dude gave it to me,” he said like it was no big deal.

I felt like slapping him, but one sideways look from Jason warned me not to. I took a deep breath. “Okay. We have to find the town hall,” I decided. “That's where we're most likely to get help if we tell anyone.” I turned and continued walking the way we had come to find Adam.

Behind me, I heard Jason say, “So wait, why does everybody get something cool but me? You've got that, Ty has his headphones, and-”

“You have a pet bat,” Adam told him. “And right now, I have the feeling that Ty doesn't want to hear us joking around. I think that he's actually really determined to save everybody.”

For once in his life, Adam was right.

Woot, yai, hip hip hooray! I actually managed to get both these updates as promised in THE SAME DAY! LET'S ALL GO CELEBRATE AT PIZZA HUT!!!!

Hurghedy... I really don't know what to say. I have no news... oh yeah!
