christmas dreaming
"Hearing jingle bells ring in my ear, your promise must be the reason the happy season is here."
pairing: Kellic
story: Tiny Problems
context: Vic Fuentes is a beginner witch that's taking lessons from his aunt. While living in the forest he had the pleasure of meeting Kellin, a fairy who crashed into his life in a tiny package. Here's their first Christmas together and also Kellin finding out what Christmas was in the first place.
°❆⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
Vic was more of an autumn person.
He loved seeing on a random morning the way the leaves changed seemingly overnight, the air becoming murky, the smell of rain warning of an incoming storm or informing that it already happened. Autumn had Halloween—one of his favorite holidays of the year, big shocker—and corn mazes, and delicious pumpkin pies. Cold foggy days and bright moons hiding behind the patches of clouds drifting in the sky, what's not to love?
Winter, though, was a close second. Even with all the snow that blanketed the neighborhood and Vic was stuck with shoveling it off the driveway. Or that he was the one who needed to dig into their garage to get the Christmas decorations out because Mike would run off with his friends and his parents were expecting the boxes to be out by the time they came home.
This time around Vic didn't have to wake up as early as he was expected to when he lived at home. Now since moving in with his aunt Cecilia, there's no loud alarms or parents reminding him to get started and-
"Vic," he heard before feeling a pillow smack against his face, jolting him awake.
Vic groaned and rolled over on his side away from the perpetrator trying to disturb his warm and cozy nap. He buried his face into his pillow, sinking into the warmth of his blankets, that heavy blissful sleep wanting to drag him back in and-
"Vic!" He heard again before getting another smack with a pillow right on the back of his head.
"What?" He groaned, not moving an inch because it'll take a damn bulldozer to get him to move. Or his blankets getting yanked off him.
Which was what Cecilia proceeded to do. Vic—honest to god—wanted to throw a tantrum right then and there. Kick his feet against the mattress and flop his arms around like a little kid. But, fortunately for his ego and remembering he was in fact supposed to be an adult now, he took in a deep breath and flopped back onto his back and let his eyes open, staring—glaring—up at his aunt.
She stood over him, holding his pillow in one hand and a large roll of garland with lights and ornaments hanging on her shoulder.
"C'mon," she said as she tossed the garland onto Vic's bed—onto his lap actually, "Get started and string that up along the roof-"
"The roof?"
"Yes," she rolled her eyes, "And then there's some more you're going to put along the patio and-"
"Isn't it snowing outside?"
"What?" She sighed, "No. It's not, that's why it's better for you to do it now before it snows."
Vic frowned as he sat up, turning to look at his window and- Yup. Not a speck of snow in sight.
He tried not to let the feeling of disappointment settle in his chest. Vic grabbed a bit of the garland and held it up to his aunt, "Can't we just put this up with magic?"
Cecilia glared down at him, "No. Magic isn't supposed to make you lazy."
"But you said that magic is an important tool," Vic countered, "Why not use that tool to decorate?"
She continued to glare at him, arms crossed against her chest, silently thinking for a minute. Vic thought he was gonna get a face full of pillow again, he even braced himself for a second there, but then Cecilia let out a soft 'tsk.'
"Fine," she shrugged, "You can use magic to decorate the house."
"Really?" Vic's eyebrows shot up and his eyes widened in surprise, immediately perking up at that. Cecilia has never given in to his silly requests, and definitely never that fast. This has to be a Christmas miracle. This has to be the start of something amazing, it'll snow tomorrow, and Vic-
"If you can figure it out," she hummed before snapping her fingers and Vic's opened spell book that was on his desk came floating towards her. Once it was on the palm of her hands, she snapped it shut, "Then sure you can use allll the magic you want."
Before Vic could say anything else, Cecilia turned on her heel and walked out of the room. Ash, the mischievous cat—who was watching this from Vic's desk, where he was laying—hoped onto his bed a let out an—almost taunting—meow.
"Can it."
°❆⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
By the time Vic finished putting up the garland along the roof it was way past lunch time. Unfortunately for him, he was definitely not figuring out that spell, or the possible multiple spells needed, to help him decorate the house. While Vic has improved since he first arrived to Cecilia's all those months ago, he was nowhere near advanced beginner level. He's barely a novice and that's when his aunt was nice enough to call him that.
He was slowly but surely getting there, though!
"What do you think?" Vic asked once he stepped off the ladder. He turned to look over at Ash who was loafing on the patio and licking at his paw. He stopped for a brief second and looked at Vic—he swears he could see the cat roll his eyes—before going back to licking his paw. Vic huffed, "You could've just stayed inside."
Vic backed away a couple of steps from the house, looked up at his work, and placed his hands on his hips. It took quite a bit but he was 95% sure that the garland wouldn't fall from roof. Or at least he hopes that 5% is kind to him and doesn't happen, he's sure Cecilia would kill him.
He brought his arm up, wiping away the bit of sweat that gathered on his forehead, frowning as his eyes shifted up towards the sun. Vic squinted slightly and felt an odd feeling over how warm it still was.
It was only the first of December but, even then it's usually cloudy and chilly around these days. Gearing up to blanket mountains and forests with snow but the only thing to blanket them was this unnatural heat.
'Global warming.' Vic tsk'd softly feeling his heart ache at the thought. As a witch, he's connected to nature in one way or another and even though he's nowhere near a master in any of it, he can still feel the energy of forest buzzing and it felt... uneasy?
Before Vic could start spiraling more into his thoughts, he went to start taking down the ladder. A familiar soft twinkling ringing in his ear, it made him stop and look around as it grew louder the closer it got. Suddenly a blinding light flashed in front of him, making Vic stumble back. A hand reached out to grab onto Vic before he actually fell onto the ground. Sweet giggles filling the air that made Vic's heart skip.
Once Vic's eyesight refocused, and found his footing, he saw the prettiest fairy he's ever seen standing in front of him with a big smile on his face. He was able to catch the sight of Kellin's crystal-like yellow wings disappearing as they always do when he switches to his human form.
"Hi Vic!" Kellin said cheerily as he threw his arms around his shoulders, going on his tippy toes to start planting kisses along his face.
"Hello your majesty- Woah-," Vic chuckled when Kellin leaned in to kiss him. Vic relaxed into the kiss, placing his hands on his hips, pulling him flushed against him. He could hear his own heart pounding in his ears. Once he pulls away, he smiles seeing the dusty pink on Kellin's cheeks, "What are you doing here? Did you sneak away again?"
Vic took Kellin's appearance in and was slightly taken aback by his outfit. Kellin usually wore all types of things no matter the gender of clothing, and it isn't unsual to see him wear outfits that take his breath away. But, aside from the typical dark pleated trousers and the white boatneck top that had bell sleeves, the robe that hung off his shoulders—that look like it was made out the tulips that grew around here—and the pretty jewelry that adorned his neck, wrist, and ears made Vic's eyes widen slightly. Kellin looked like a run-a-way prince and—considering how they met, he was one at one point.
"No," Kellin fluttered his lashes innocently, cute little grin on his face, "I just wanted to come see you... Hi Ash!"
The previously uninterested cat stretched from his spot and meowed, tail wagging. Vic gave him a less than impress look and all Kellin did was giggle and pull away, looking up at the roof with a curious look on his face, "What's all this?" He gasps and looked over at him with a shiny look on his face, "I told you putting up flowers would make the house prettier! But... what are the shiny colorful things?"
Kellin pointed up at the ornaments hanging randomly along the garland. Vic sighed knowing that he wasn't going to find out what Kellin is avoiding back home. A few months ago, Vic found out that Kellin was a lot closer to the royal family in the fairy village than Kellin led him to believe. One thing led to another, Vic and an annoying british vampire ended up in fairy jail, and Kellin ended up taking over the throne.
But even now with the throne, Kellin still ran off—even more than before—when he was supposed to be doing whatever kings do. Usually, Vic would get Kellin to tell him and then convince him to go back because he did not want to be thrown in fairy jail again. Kellin might be king all he want but his mother was scary. Now though, he'll let it go since he hasn't seen him in a couple of weeks.
"They're ornaments," Vic explained as he took down the ladder leaning against the house, "We're decorating for Christmas."
Kellin tilted his head, eyebrows furrowed, in confusion, "Christmas?"
Vic frowned and looked over at him, "...You don't know what Christmas is?" He doesn't know why he's shocked considering Kellin didn't know about a lot of other holidays. He is shocked about the fact that he hasn't said anything or that the adventure fairies haven't brought back things for it.
Kellin shook his head fast, his jewelry clinking, "Is it like Halloween?"
Vic chuckled and shook his head, "No, not at all. Let me finish putting the garland on the patio and I'll tell you all about it."
°❆⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
Once Vic finished outside he brought Kellin and Ash just as Cecilia finished making lunch.
"Hi Ceci!" Kellin's bubbling voice stopped Cecilia from fixing up her own plate while Juniper—her cat—sat on an empty counter behind her watching her until he spotted Ash and hoped down to go with the other familiar. She looked up and had a huge smile on her face when the fairy ran excitedly towards her and gave her a hug, "It's so good to see you again!"
Cecilia hugged him back, "I thought you freed yourself and broke up with Vic already."
Vic glared over at her and looked around the place and didn't see any of the decorations put up in here. There were a bunch of boxes laid around and the tree was put up but it was bare. He sighed softly realizing he'll have to put up the decorations in here as well.
"No, silly!" Kellin giggled as he shrugged off the tulip robe, "I've been a little busy but, I could sneak away to come visit him."
"Ah, well," Cecilia shrugged, "I've made lunch so help yourself."
After that Cecilia left them and went upstairs. Kellin looked over to see Vic opening up the boxes scattered around, "Are you not going to eat?"
"I will after find the ornaments to put on the tree," Vic smiled over at him, "Help yourself, darling."
Kellin blushed and walked over to look into the boxes and saw all brightly colored decorations. He leaned down and picked up a figure that was dressed in all red, had a big belly, and a fluffy white beard. "Who is this?" Kellin frowned and picked up another figure but this one was attached to a Christmas tree with spiky parts (Christmas lights), "And why do you have so many of him in this box?"
Vic laughed and looked over at his pouty confused face, "That's Santa Claus, the one I told you about outside."
"Ohhhh," Kellin still looked confused, "How does he go down the fireplace? Isn't he... a little too...?"
"By magic," Vic explained as he grabbed a box of ornaments. He could see more in the box and the energy to decorate kept disappearing the more he found. Vic forgot how time consuming and exhausting this was but every year, without fail, he'll forget and get excited all over again for it.
"Oh! So he's a witch?" Kellin giggled, "Just like you!"
"Not really," Vic shook his head and sighed grabbing another full box of ornaments, "This is going to take forever."
"I'll help you!" Kellin said, placing the figures down in the box, "What should I do first?"
Vic smiled, feeling his heart flutter, shaking his head, "It's okay darling, I got it. How about I put on a Christmas movie for you?"
Kellin pouted, "But I want to help."
Vic sighed, endearingly, and put the boxes of ornaments down before walking over to him. He cupped his cheeks and leaned in to kiss the pout away from his lips, "How about you tell me why you're running away from home again?"
The pout grew and Kellin let out a soft huff, "It's just getting a little overwhelming... the year end celebrations are coming up and they're asking me about every little detail! Even between two shades of red! They're both red! Just pick one!"
"My poor baby," Vic cooed after chuckling at his little outburst. He was a bit curious about what type of traditions the fairies had for the end of the year. Because if it wasn't Christmas then what is it? But, he could see how overwhelmed and stressed—two things the bubbly fairy rarely is—Kellin was so, he'll ask later when he's a bit more calm, "And now you want to help? Shouldn't you relax then."
"This is relaxing!" Kellin poked at Vic's chest making him back away with an amused grin on his face, "I'm helping decorate for whatever Christmas is with my cute boyfriend."
"You know what Christmas is, I just explained it to you outside," Vic laughed, that shy and nervous one that makes Kellin smile and get a fuzzy feeling in his chest. "But, fine only because I think you'll pout me to death."
"That's not possible," Kellin rolled his eyes playfully, "But what's first?"
Vic thought about it for a second as he circled his arms around his waist. Then Kellin watched as a mischievous glint filled his eyes, "You're going to help me get my spell book back."
°❆⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
Helping Vic get his spell book back was easy.
Kellin thought Vic had this elaborate plan to get it back just like how he had this big plan elaborate plan when he got him back. But no, all Kellin had to do was go upstairs and knock on Cecilia's door and just... ask her.
Quite boring if Kellin was being honest and he wonders briefly if all the fun adventures Vic plans to have in the future are reserved for their vampire friend. Not on Kellin's watch. He'll pout him to death for real if that happens.
When Kellin poked his head into Cecilia's room it's like she knew exactly what he was there for since she was holding the spell book. Though she couldn't be shocked that Vic used one of her weaknesses and it so happened to be the sweet fairy that somehow ended up dating her nephew. It's the fact that he figured out that she couldn't exactly say no to Kellin. How could she? He didn't have a sinister bone in his body and was the sweetest thing she's ever met.
So, after he nervously—twisting his fingers with his head tilted down, seriously you wouldn't think he was the ruler of an entire village—asked her for the book back, she gleefully gave it to him. Told him exactly what page the spell Vic needed and sent him on his merry way. Vic was eternally grateful and gave him the biggest kiss (today) after Kellin told him what page the spell he was looking for was.
"You're the best," Vic breathed out after pulling away from the blushing fairy. Kellin was grateful his wings disappear in his human form because he swears they would've been fluttering fast enough to lift him off the floor during that kiss.
Vic flipped to the page Kellin told him his aunt said the spell was on. "Okay, stand back," he said a bit nervously and Kellin listened but not before grabbing Ash from where he sat on the couch watching this unfold. With their luck this would go awry and Ash will be the victim of whatever spell Vic casts.
Kellin watched in awe, after Vic casted the spells, as all the ornaments and decorations in the box seemed to have a mind of their own. Each lifting up and twirling around as they made their to their designated spots. The figures and stockings going to the fireplace, the ornaments and strings of lights hanging and wrapping themselves along the tree. Even a toy train set that Kellin didn't see before laid itself out under the tree. The toy train let out a "choo choo!" Before it ran along the plastic tracks.
"Oh how adorable!" Kellin squealed and soon the living room went from bare and boring to looking like Christmas materialized from thin air and threw up on the space.
"Woah there, not you," Vic said and grabbed onto the Christmas star that was making its way to the top of the tree. Kellin felt his heart skip a beat at the lopsided grin Vic had as he walked over to him, holding the star out to him, "Would you like to do the honors?"
Kellin let Ash jump off his hands and grabbed onto the star excitedly, "Really!?"
Vic laughed and nodded, "Yes really, come on."
The two walked over to the tree and Kellin tilted his head up and pouted, "I can't reach that, should I turn into a fairy?"
Vic chuckled and stood beside Kellin, "It's okay I'll help." Kellin frowned a little confused and got even more confused when Vic crouched down and patted his shoulders, "Your throne awaits."
Kellin blushed immediately and felt his heart do a swoop, "You're silly." Still Kellin took a seat on his shoulders while Vic wrapped his arms around his legs. Once he was balanced Vic stood up straight making Kellin giggle, "Hey, we basically make up Oli."
"Ha. Ha. Ha," Vic rolled his eyes and looked up just as Kellin put the star on the tree, "Well look at that, you're officially a Christmas celebrator, how do you feel?"
"I'm on top of the world," Kellin smiled down at him, placing his hands on top of his head, "Speaking of... how do I get off the world."
Vic grinned, "I don't know, I kind of like you up there."
"Vic!"
"Okay, okay," Vic crouched down again and let Kellin off him before he stood straight up, "Well, thank you for helping me Kells."
"Well, all I did was put up the star but, of course!" Kellin smiled, "Now you're all ready for Christmas tomorrow!"
"What?"
Kellin tilted his head, "Christmas...? Tomorrow...?"
And Vic absolutely lost it. His laughter fill the room and Kellin would've laughed with him if it wasn't the fact that he was laughing at him. Well, that's a lie Vic wasn't laughing at him just at the misunderstanding.
"Christmas isn't tomorrow, it's on the 25th... well we celebrate both the 24th and the 25th," Vic explained and Kellin's jaw dropped.
"Why were you so worried about not finishing today then!?" Kellin asked, "You have so many days left!"
"I wanted to finish it all today," Vic shrugged. "And now we can relax..." He wrapped his arms around Kellin's waist, pulling him in closer, "Watch some Christmas movies and drink some hot coco with my favorite fairy."
Kellin blushed, "I'm the only fairy you know."
"That's not true," Vic scoffed, "I know your sisters and mom."
Kellin rolled his eyes and crossed his arms across his chest, "Throw in cuddles and I won't leave."
"Deal," Vic leaned in to press a quick kiss to his lips.
°❆⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
The next day Vic woke up warm under the covers with Kellin cuddled up next to him. There was an opened laptop by their feet with a paused scene from 'Elf.' Kellin didn't like it all that much because of the poor portrayal of trolls and gnomes but he did enjoy how they fixed Christmas. Ash was curled up by Kellin, sleeping and snoring softly.
They spend the rest of days watching all sorts of Christmas movies, drinking hot coco, and—of course—cuddling on Vic's bed. It truly felt like Christmas Eve Eve except with less bustling around cooking and baking.
When Vic's eyes fluttered opened as he hummed and pulled Kellin even closer to him. Even though he felt warm he felt a cold shiver past him. Kellin must of felt it too because he shivered and cuddled into Vic even more with a pout.
Vic frowned and tilted his head up to see his window opened. He sighed and looked down to see Kellin still cuddled up next to him and definitely nowhere near wanting to move. So he waved his wrist around and muttered a quick spell making the window close.
Soon he let himself be dragged back into a peaceful sleep after placing one last kiss on Kellin's forehead.
°❆⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
"Vic," he heard before feeling to soft lips press against his cheek, making that warm fuzzy feeling return to his heart.
Vic groaned softly feeling someone poke his cheek before grabbing onto whoever was poking him. He heard a cute giggle ring against his ear as he buried his face into Kellin's neck.
"Vic!" Kellin giggled.
"Mm," Vic mumbled and started to plant soft kisses along Kellin's neck, making the fairy blush and squirm in his hold, "Go back to sleep."
"Meow."
Vic sighed feeling Ash jump onto him, "I'm getting déjà vu."
"Déjà what?" Kellin asked, laughing again when he watched Vic push Ash off of him. Vic opened his eyes having a small pout on his lips and sleepy eyes. Kellin just wanted to kiss him. He looked adorable.
"Let's keep sleeping."
Kellin shook his head, "No! It's snowing!"
"But I'm- Wait, snowing?" Vic asked and Kellin nodded making him sit up instantly. Kellin watched as Vic scrambled out of bed and rush over to his window, "Holy shit-"
Just outside the window, all Vic could see was miles and miles of snow covered trees. The sky was filled to the brim with clouds and suddenly the chill that woke him up earlier made all the more sense. Vic was so sure it wasn't going to snow until way later in the month. All of a sudden he felt relaxed and that everything was right in the world.
"A Christmas miracle," Vic smiled.
"Didn't you say Christmas wasn't until the 25th?" Kellin asked, "You're confusing."
Vic laughed and shook his head as he looked over at him, "With the right person, it'll feel like Christmas every day." It was one of the cheesiest things he's ever said in his entire life and a couple of years back he would've kicked his own butt over it. But it was nothing but the truth.
Kellin has been a light—and just to be more cheesy—and magical experience. He's never felt so in love till now and he's lucky enough that Kellin also feels the exact same way.
Kellin blushed as Vic walked back over to him, "C'mon, let's get dressed and go outside to make some snow angels." He grabbed onto Kellin's hands and helped him up from the bed, pulling him in to plant a kiss on his forehead.
"Can Ash come!"
"Sure-"
"As a human?"
"No, absolutely not- Don't give me that pout- Kells-" Vic sighed and looked over at the cat loafing on his bed who was licking his paw. He looked up at him and Vic swears he looks smug.
'Reminder: No snacks for Ash today.'
"Fine."
"Yay!" Kellin leaned in and gave him a big smooch on his cheek before walking past him and over to Vic's closet, "It is a Christmas miracle!"

Man I miss writing for fairy Kells 😔
Anyway! I've been thinking of these little ideas alllll month! Hopefully I'll get to post one every day this week (don't hold me to that I definitely won't but I'll try). Of course, I had to start with fairy Kells (on his way to) celebrating Christmas and finding about it 🥺 and of course it was Vic's job to tell him :) (He definitely found his favorite holiday).
(If you see any editing mistakes... no you didn't-)
I hope you enjoy these five one-shots I have for you and they bring you a little Christmas cheer as much as they did to me while writing. Any and all thoughts and comments are always welcomed :)
Thanks for reading and stay safe <3
