It had gone on for ten minutes, Yoongi had given up and was waiting for Jungkook to just cry it out at this point but it didn't seem it would end. He was clearly frustrated and Namjoon wasn't far behind.
"We've tried food, water, comfort objects, comfort words-" Jimin was interrupted by another high-pitched scream from Jungkook, and Hoseok then took over. "We tried his blanket, leaving him alone, giving him hugs- what else do we do?" He asked, running both hands through his hair.
Jin had Jungkook on his lap, as he was trying physical touch in hopes it was that (even though Hoseok claimed he already tried). It didn't calm down, Jungkook was still frantic and everyone's Google history was filled with typos and unanswered questions.
Namjoon was on his phone, not set on giving up on the internet. There had to be something.
"We went outside earlier, maybe he has a bruise- o-or a cut or something we didn't see." Jimin thought out loud. "But why would he be so upset about it just now?" Hoseok asked. "He was happy seeing us, he probably was distracted?" Taehyung proposed. Jimin wasn't sure about his own theory, but he couldn't come up with anything else. His brain was hurting- and he knew he wasn't the only one.
"Baby space; what's the thing about babies everyone hates?" Namjoon asked out loud. "We don't hate Jungkookie-" "I mean," Namjoon shook his head. "Listen: I don't think we should be overly surprised if we, you know...well, if we have to change him. Maybe he had a bad dream at first and, now, he's uncomfortable?" He continued on, glancing at everyone. No one had thought about it.
"I mean, most babies cry when something hurts, or they're uncomfortable or wanting attention. It's how they communicate- for now, anyways." Namjoon looked at Yoongi, because he was the most educated in these things. Even if it wasn't a lot, it still might make more sense to him than anyone else.
"I'm pretty sure Jeongguk would've told us if he had a baby space-" "Call his brother!" Taehyung jumped up with an idea. "What-" "Just call his brother, his real brother, Junghyun." He pushed on. "When Jungkook first started to be little, it was after his first trip back home since debut. Maybe he had gone little at home, and that's where it suddenly came from. I think we should call his brother and ask if he knows anything." Taehyung explained, and Jimin nodded in agreement.
Jungkook was gasping for air, almost like a panic attack. He was using every ounce of air he could get, to cry. He was getting dehydrated and overall more uncomforable. Yoongi had tried giving cold and warm milk, water, juice, tea, anything they had for liquids but Jungkook refused.
Jimin was praying for Junghyun to answer his phone, and just as the twenty second-mark passed, the call connected. "Junghyun-ah! Can you hear me?" Jimin asked, plugging his other ear to hear the phone better. Taehyung and everyone else was eager to hear, but it would be impossible over Jungkook.
"Yeah, I can hear you- what's up? It's been a while since we talked-" "Yeah, I know- I'm really sorry for calling in such a circumstance, but I need your help right now." Jimin had to interrupt, as rude as it made him feel. "Oh, what for, Jiminie? Jeongguk-ah isn't being mean, is he?" Junghyun chuckled from the other end of the call. "No- well, I don't know. Does the term 'little space' mean anything to you?" Jimin asked him, trying hard to concentrate.
It was quiet, and Jimin's heart dropped. He feared he wouldn't know, and they'd be answer less once again.
"Uhh...yeah, Jeongguk...is that him in the background?" Junghyun asked in a surprised tone. "Yeah, it is- he was just napping, and out of nowhere he jumped up and started screaming and crying. We think he's in baby space because he can't talk, and because of how he was acting before he slept. We've tried everything, Junghyun-ah and nothing is working, it's been over ten minutes." Jimin explained to him, looking over at Jungkook. He was desperately trying to escape Jin's protective hold, still sobbing and overall appearing miserable.
"Have you tried his blanket? Sometimes even in little space, someone can have a panic or anxiety attack and that might be what's happening-" "Yes, we've tried showing it to him and he just gets more upset." Jimin sighed, taking in a deep breath.
Namjoon was in the kitchen on the internet, trying his hardest to find anything. The screaming was getting too much, even for Jin which was the most patient right now.
"He's hitting, and we've tried absolutely everything we can think of-" "He's hitting at you guys?" Junghyun interrupted, and he sounded surprised. "Yeah- not extremely hard though." Jimin nodded. He realized Junghyun was through the phone and he face palmed in his head.
"I don't know, I haven't heard of Jeongguk get physical in little space before. Well, sometimes when he's upset but he never really hits. Have you tried leaving him completely alone? I mean, I don't really know- wow, I've never heard him cry like that..."
Jimin groaned. "Okay, I'll call you back in a few minutes. We'll try that, but I don't know if it'll work. Thank you." He told Junghyun, and soon hung up.
"What did he say?" Taehyung asked hopefully. "He suggested to leave him completely alone, but other than that he didn't really know." Jimin sighed. "At least we have him as a backup." Hoseok shrugged, and they all looked back at Jungkook.
"You want me to just let him go? He'll fall and get hurt." Jin asked, peeking over Jungkook's shoulder. Taehyung took in a sharp breath. "Just let him go, we'll go to the kitchen and see what happens. Not hide, just walk away." He told Jin.
Jin let Jungkook go, and he landed on his butt on the carpeted floor. He wasn't facing Jin and just before Jimin suggested they move, something switched.
Jungkook grabbed his blanket from the floor, almost ripping it and he crawled to the corner of the room. Hoseok's heart pounded in his chest, terrified that they had done something horribly wrong. Once he was close enough to the corner and had his back to the wall, he folded his knees up to his chest, hid his face in his blanket and started to rock himself back and forth.
"Shit." Namjoon cursed sharply, now standing next to Hoseok. "Taehyung-ah, do you remember doing anything to him while he was asleep? Maybe you grabbed him-" "No, I kept my hands on his back, I didn't move anything." Taehyung whimpered from the stress overcoming him.
A minute passed, and Jungkook was quiet. He was cuddled up into himself, Jin's ears hurting slightly from the sudden silence.
"What the fuck did we do?" Yoongi asked. He ran his right hand through his hair and tugged a little, from being so upset. "Fuck, I don't know." Hoseok shifted his weight and covered his mouth with his hand for a second, and then he removed it. "Should we call Junghyun-ah again?" Taehyung asked, looking over at Jimin. "I think Jeonggukie needs to be alone-" "But the point of us being his caregivers, is so he isn't alone." Namjoon whined. "We're supposed to keep him safe, and happy, and-" "Namjoonie, take a breath." Jin cut him off, noticing how he was stressing. Namjoon sighed and took a few deep breaths.
Jungkook looked up, and immediately the look in his eye cracked their hearts. His hands came out towards the closest person, being Taehyung, and he grabbed at the air twice with a wet sniffle. Taehyung was quick in getting close to him, but not at a speed that would startle him. Jungkook grabbed at him again. "I'm here, Jungkookie, Taehyungie's here." Taehyung told him.
Jungkook shook his head and let his legs down. "Do you want a hug?" Taehyung asked, from the back of his mind. He smiled as Jungkook nodded his heavy head, and very carefully, Taehyung slid his arms around Jungkook and gently pulled him into his lap. Jungkook hid his face in his neck.
"It's not your fault..." The youngest whispered to him, and his other caregivers. Taehyung didn't know if he was still little, so he got Jungkook in a more comfortable position to hold him. Now Taehyung's back was on the wall and Jungkook sat on his thighs, almost like before he had woken up from his nap.
