Chapter 30: New Beginnings
Raphael always enjoyed stargazing. It was one of his favorite activities to do with Mona Lisa when they'd have date nights on Earth, besides their one-on-one training sessions, of course. However, the view he would see on Earth is nothing compared to the wondrous sight he and Mona were blessed with this evening. On a far off planet outside of the Milky Way Galaxy, Raphael and Mona Lisa were spending their wedding night at a luxurious resort, staying in a penthouse suite on the top floor. Courtesy of the Utrom Council. As if giving them their official marriage license wasn't enough, as a true final apology for Bishop's ignorant actions, the Utrom Queen offered to pay for the entirety of Raphael and Mona Lisa's honeymoon. From the meals, the intergalactic transportation, to the suites they'd stay in. An offer the couple did not refuse, planning to take full advantage of the Queen's generosity.
Still dressed in his wedding attire from earlier that evening, only removing his blazer and draping it on a nearby chair, Raphael stood alone in the wedding suite's balcony. He rested his arms on the banister of the balcony, looking out at the cosmic night sky. A magical view of glittery purple cosmic clouds combines with sparkling white stars painting across a blue, black and pink night sky. The sight was breathtaking. Raphael's eyes were locked on the sky above. Though he has never enjoyed space travel, he can't deny the sights have always been astonishing, making traveling the galaxy worth it in the long run.
Soon joining him on the balcony was Mona Lisa, still in her wedding dress. She entered carrying two glasses of sparkling champagne. She approaches her husband, offering him a glass. Raph thanks her with a smile, taking the glass from her grasp. The two then raise their glasses to one another, clinking them together and proceeding to take a sip as they continue to look out at the gorgeous view above them.
"This view is incredible..." Raph says softly, he and Mona's gaze locked on the sky.
Mona hums in agreement, "If I recall, it was a night similar to this one that you and I had our little discussion," she chuckles at the thought as she takes another sip from her glass. How over a year ago they were on that rooftop stargazing, that date night along with a simple conversation led to the chain of events that led to their marriage.
"To think, my cluelessness of marriage is what led us to where we are now."
"I'm glad for your cluelessness," Raph teased with a grin. "If we didn't have that discussion, then proposing to you would've taken longer to cross my mind."
"So if I didn't make my assumption that we were already married, your proposal would've still happened?"
"Eventually, yeah. Even before a proposal crossed my mind I already knew you were the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with."
"And when did you realize that?"
Raph turns, booping his nose against hers. Giving a loving smile, he whispered, "The day I met you."
Mona snorts, playfully punching her husband's arms as her cheeks begin to blush. The couple share a chuckle with one another before returning to looking back out at the stars. Shoulders touching, they nuzzle their heads against one another, with Raph resting his on Mona's shoulder. They take another sip from their champagne glasses, not saying a word as they look on at the starry night sky, reminiscing about everything that has happened, not just in the past year, but the entirety of their relationship.
They both couldn't believe it. They were married. Husband and wife. To think all of their adventures together, the experiences they shared, the road bumps and struggles, all led to this moment. It all started years ago when they were just teenagers, both with a love and passion for fighting and battle. From two completely different worlds, it seemed it would have been impossible for these two to meet.
Destiny brought them together, but at a cost. Losing to the Triceratons and his home planet led to Raphael's journey to travel beyond his universe with his brothers and closest friends to stop them once and for all and save the Earth. Along the way, he met her, Mona Lisa. Whether it was by pure coincidence or was truly their destiny to meet, Raph and Mona were thankful for it all for it led to where they are now.
The first time they kissed on Fugitoid's ship just after escaping the ice planet was a moment the couple truly will never forget. At that moment, Raphael's whole opinion on outer space shifted from hating it, to one in a more positive light. A kiss that completely changed Raphael. A memory he vowed to never forget, just in case he never saw the beautiful Salamandrian warrior ever again.
In truth, in the beginning of their blooming romance, Raphael and Mona Lisa were both convinced what they had would be, what some would call it, a fling. A short-lived romance that would end once Raphael's six month mission was complete, the Earth was saved and the Triceratons were defeated. It was an unspoken understanding between the two. Perhaps that is why they rushed so quickly in the beginning. With Raph thinking he'd never see her again once he returned back to Earth, along with Mona believing she could die in battle the next day. She'd let Raphael how she feels, taking any opportunity to kiss him, just in case it would be her last. Even with all the flirting and makeout sessions they engaged in while together during those six months, the couple was still unsure what this feeling they had for one another truly was. Admiration and excitement from this so-called fling? A sudden burst of passion and teenage hormones that has been held back within them for so long after years of believing they'd never find someone? Or perhaps, it was something much more.
The answer became clear during the first, and certainly not last, road bump in their relationship. On Lord Dregg's planet, being blackmailed and forced to betray Raphael in order to save her people, Mona felt the grief and despair from watching him suffer at the hands of a dishonorable man. To redo her wrongs, Mona made a sacrifice, going back on her deal with Dregg, sacrificing herself in order to save Raph. That was when she admitted it. That Mona Lisa loves Raphael and always will, no matter where they are or what either of them have done. It was from her declaration alone that not only gave Raphael the strength to fight again, but a confirmation that what they had was more than a fling. They were in love. After all the teasing and jokes from his brothers and Casey, Raph could finally say with confidence that he had a loving girlfriend. Though the next challenge of their relationship arose once he returned to Earth.
Despite finally titling themselves as boyfriend and girlfriend, the agonizingly long distance relationship Raphael and Mona Lisa had to work through was still there and a challenge. For Mona Lisa, she often had suitors come her way in a sad attempt to replace the honorable terrapin warrior from Earth, but they all failed miserably. She missed him dearly, but what kept her going was the love mail he sent her during his six month mission. Saving all of them - and every night she'd reread all the sweet and romantic words and poems he wrote just for her.
For Raphael, it was more of the slow growing feeling of loneliness. As he saw couples like Donnie and April grow closer, turning their friendship into something more, Raph began to realize he was missing that feeling when he was with Mona back in space. That feeling of being loved and adored, someone always by your side and having their undivided attention and admiration. No one loved him like Mona Lisa did. She saw beyond his hard shell, seeing the gentle and passionate turtle he was underneath. She never judged him or ridiculed him when he was being soft or sensitive. She listened to him, understood him, but was also reasonable and had him look at things in a different light. As time went on, Raphael grew convinced he'd never see her again. Right back to where they first started. Their romance has died, that was until fate brought them together again.
Who would've thought that an alien invasion from a psychotic Salamandrian rogue and a crazed insect crime lord who just won't quit would be what made the couple finally reunite. The mission was simple. Travel to Earth, stop Newtrailzer, then return back home to Salamandria. However, when the battle was over and it was time to leave, Mona at that moment realized that leaving would just return her and Raphael back to where their relationship first started. The unsureness and wonder if they'll ever see each other again. A fling once again. They'd continue being in this cycle of torment, not unless one of them makes a change. Raphael made the first move when offering for her to stay on Earth with him, but Mona dismissed the idea. Her duty and honor as a Salamandrian was her priority, but as the battle continued on, Mona realized there's more out there for her beyond her world and her duty. So she made a decision that changed the course of her life and her relationship with Raph forever. She decided to remain on Earth. A difficult choice, but one she does not regret. Not one bit.
Now together, Raphael and Mona Lisa's relationship grew into something more greater. Seeing each other everyday, whether for training sessions, going on patrol or date nights, the couple embraced every second they shared together. Years went by and their love for each other thrived. Developing in many forms from romantic, emotional and even physical. New adventures and experiences, disagreements and make ups, stories created together that they can now look back at, laugh and share with others. As their relationship grew, so did they. Raph became more mature, calm even. He grew more comfortable with being open about his emotions and feelings, not just to Mona but to his friends and family as well. For Mona Lisa she stepped out of her comfort zone, finally free to relax after years of being in constant wars, embracing her new life on Earth. The more time they spent together, the stronger their love for one another grew, and even when Bishop tried to get in the way, they did not allow it. After years of long distance and fear of never seeing each other again, Raphael and Mona Lisa made a vow that nothing will ever come between them again.
Now, they are married. No longer just being in each other's lives, but sharing one. One open for so many new adventures and experiences to share. Not just with each other, but maybe someday with little ones of their own. This night was the beginning of a new chapter in their relationship, and Raphael and Mona Lisa were going to make every second of this night count.
Emptying their glasses, Mona sets them down on a nearby table on the balcony, before looking over at her husband, "Well, I'm going back inside. It's getting rather chilly out here. Will you be joining me, my love?"
Raph shrugs, still looking out at the night sky, "In a minute. I just want to enjoy the view a little longer..."
"Well, that's a shame," Mona says with a tantalizing smile, turning to head back inside their honeymoon suite. She stops by the door that led into their bedroom, looking over her shoulder she bats her eyes as she tells him, "I would love to get out of this dress but I need some assistance~"
Raph blinked, her words snapping him out of the trance the cosmic sky placed on him. Turning back around, he stares down his wife who was giving him a playful seductive smile. Slowly she lifts up her hand, repeatedly curling her pointer finger to her palm, signaling for her husband to follow her inside.
"...On second thought, there's a way better view I'd like to see!" Raph says, quickly rushing to the suite's door and swiftly grabbing Mona Lisa, lifting her up in his arms. Mona laughs in excitement as he carries her inside to their suite.
The honeymoon penthouse suite was a large room with many windows showing off the intergalactic sky. The room's lighting had a dim but warm glow, similar to candle light. The living area had a large holographic TV screen, a glass coffee table and two loveseat couches. Across from the living area was a four-poster bed with a king size mattress, the curtains and sheets matching clean white fabrics. Scattered across the mattress wear sparkling red petals forming the shape of a heart. Cheesy, the couple will admit, but they couldn't deny it set the mood for the night.
As the couple sat on the bed, Mona wrapped her arms around Raph's neck pulling him towards her until their lips joined together in a doting kiss. Raph responded by locking Mona in his grasp, his arms wrapped tightly around her waist, refusing to let her go. He attacked her neck with numerous tender kisses, causing Mona to giggle from the tickling feeling.
"I love you so much, Mona," Raph mumbles to her, nuzzling his nose into the crook of her neck, "You're my world. I'd do anything for you..."
"Anything?" Mona asked. He looks down at her, seeing her bat her eyes with a tempting smirk.
He nods, gently caressing her legs and up to her thighs, "It is my job as a husband to fulfill my beautiful wife's needs and desires. So what will it be, my dear?"
"Hmm, OH! I know!" Mona quickly pushes Raph off of her, freeing herself from his grasp as the couple sit side by side on their bed. Raph is confused by this slight mood killer, until he notices that Mona has turned facing away from him. She shows him the back of her wedding dress where it all was held together in numerous tiny knots and bows. "As your first official duty as my husband, I need you to help me out of this corset. It's been torturing me all evening!"
Raph couldn't help but chuckle. Not exactly what he was trying to lean towards, but it's a start. He reaches for the ties that kept Mona's dress together, attempting to untie them but soon discovers the knots are tied far too tight. Raph fidgets around with the first knot, it was not getting loose no matter how hard he tried.
Raph lets out a little growl, growing more frustrated, "Who tied this stupid thing?! I swear, this knot is not bugging."
"Shinigami did."
He lets out a long sigh of annoyment, "Of course..."
Even on his wedding night, that witch still found a way to pull a little stunt like this to get on his nerves. Whether it was intentional or not, she succeeded.
A long minute went by before Raphael finally got the first knot of the corset loose. One by one he carefully unties each little bow on the back of Mona's dress.
"How's your scar?" Mona asked, carefully looking over her shoulder, trying to make some small talk after too long of silence and a battle with a corset knot.
Raph stops himself, taking a moment to lift his hand, touching the mark on his upper right shoulder. The scar Bishop gave him from their battle a year ago. A painful shot from the Utrom's blaster resulted in a deep scar on the red Turtle's skin. A permanent reminder of his actions, the sacrifice he made in order for them to have this night together. What he went through just so he could be with her. An ugly scar that resulted in a beautiful outcome for him and the woman he loves. In the end, it was worth it.
"Better," Raph tells her, returning back to untying the knots. "To my surprise it healed up pretty quickly. But there's still a mark."
Raph then noticed from Mona's body language, her tense shoulders. He could tell she was feeling uneasy.
"Mona, what's wrong?" Raph asked, worried.
"I'm sorry you had to go through all of that, my love," Mona looks over her shoulder again. Her eyes were full of admiration and love, but she still couldn't help but tear up as she said to her husband softly, "I just still can't believe you did all of that just for me..."
Raph gives her a loving smile as he goes to softly kiss her neck from behind, one arm wrapping around her stomach. Mona hums in delight from the feeling, caressing his cheek. Suddenly, through soft whispers, Mona Lisa heard Raphael say to her, "For you, it was worth it..."
Feeling his chin gently rested on her shoulder, Mona Lisa felt Raphael take hold of the final ribbon of her dress. Pulling it at a steady pace, the corset came undone. Mona could feel the tightness of her dress come loose, slowly falling off her body.
Raphael spoke no lies when he told her she was and will always be worth it. If he could he'd fight in millions of battles for her if it went she'd be his. Her love, her smile and her merely being in his life is a blessing that he never wants to be taken away from him. And Mona Lisa feels the same. He is hers and she is his, and no one will ever say otherwise. The love these two share will last forever, a fact written in stone and in the stars above. As the newly married couple passionately celebrate their first night together, a bright future awaits for them. A life they will now share together as husband and wife.
