Two: Spy's like these aren't real

My face lit up upon sight of her. I ran into my mothers arms, and hugged her tightly.

"I don't know what's going on." I whispered, feeling comfortable again once her arms wrapped tightly around me.

"Thank God ya' alright." She cooed, feeling my face with her soft, hands. "Heavens! Ya' got ya'self quite a bump up on ya' forehead."

"I just ran into something- I'm fine, really." She pulled me in for one more hug, just as my father, and another unknown man walked out of a nearby office.

"You did well, Agent Krane." The older man said, getting a nod from the guy who saved me earlier.

"And you must be Ava." He turned to me with a smile, "I'm Agent Henry Burke. I run things around here. Very nice to meet the girl who gave Ms. Spice a hard time." His hand extended to mine.

I quickly looked at my mother, who nodded with a smile. I then shook his hand, hesitating just a little longer.

His grip was firm. I could tell he was a gentleman, someone who would help you by choice- unlike 'Agent Krane' behind me.

"You must be curious on what's happening here." He said.

"I just want to go home." I sighed. Agent Burke nodded with a sympathetic smile.

"You can go home once this is all over- which is why we need your help..." His voice trailed off. He flashed Agent Krane a 'I'm sorry' look, who had a pissed off expression. I can tell he wasn't happy about whatever it was I needed to do.

"Help with what?" I asked. My mother rubbed my back slowly.

"We're one of the best agencies around. Special Agent Noah Krane here happens to be the best spy in the business now-a-day's." He started, "The woman you met earlier is Agent Spice. She used to be my partner back in the old days, but when I was given the agency, she turned evil-"

"You're crazy." I began to laugh, seeking my parents' help- but only found out that they didn't think it was funny either, "Spy's like these aren't real! They're only in movies...."

"Common teenage girl." Noah scoffed, earning a quick glare from Burke, and an eye-roll from me.

"I'm afraid they're real, my dear. We need your help with taking her down. The details, we'll go over some other time- for you need your sleep. We can meet tomorrow afternoon to discuss your part in this newly brought on mission. Agent Krane will take it from here." With a bow, Burke departed.

As soon as he left, I frantically turned to my mother. I know I'm seventeen, but I still look to her as my guidance to life.

My mother grew up in Alabama, as a perfect 'southern bell' they call her. That's where the accent's from.

She was beautiful, kind, and intelligent when it comes to life. My mom has always been someone I've looked up too, and I'm not going to just stop seeking her advice because I'm 'too old'.

She cupped my face in her hands, "Everythin' will be okay, love! We'll just get ya' back to the room we were put in, let ya' take a nice, cold showa', and then have a long, needed sleep!"

A cough was heard behind us. I turned my head to see Noah crossing his arms across his finely built chest, as he advanced towards us.

"Actually Mrs. Slater." He began, "Ava will be put in a special room where I can keep watch on her. It's been my-" he paused, fixing his jacket, "My assignment, to protect her with my life. Danger could be anywhere, so I must remain close to your daughter at all times."

He sounded so professional- so polite. But in reality, he was just a cold hearted jerk. The personality change must be because an adult is present.

"He's gotta' point, Hun. You go with that nice boy ova' there, mmk? I'll be there to check on ya' as soon as I can." Her warm smile gave me hope.

I didn't know what was going to happen soon, but I could tell that she did. If she can smile through it, then so can I.

"Just know it'll all be okay sweetheart." She planted a kiss on my forehead, "You respect that boy, now!"

I waved to both of my parents as they disappeared deeper into the headquarters.

I turned around to Noah, who once again had his famous glare in his eyes.

"What?" I asked him.

"You're seventeen, and act like a four year old getting dropped off at school for the first time." He pointed out, going back on the talk with me and my mother.

"Can I not love my mom?" I crossed my arms. Does he have any emotion inside him?

A large sigh escaped his mouth, and i followed him to the room we'd be staying in. I can't exactly say i'm pleased with this arrangement, but apparently, i don't have much of a say.

After walking for a few minutes in silence, Noah opened a set of large, double doors. My face lit up in admiration. I've never seen such a beautiful suite.

"Wow." I exclaimed, "It's-"

Before I could finish my sentence, the doors behind me slammed shut. I quickly jerker my head around only to realize Noah wasn't there anymore.

I tried the knobs over and over again, but they wouldn't budge. "Hey!" I yelled, slapping the door a few times.

"Ms Ava?" An unfamiliar voice called out from behind the other side of the door.

I tried the figure out who it was in my head, but no matches came up."Uh- yea, it's me."

"I'm supposed to inform you that a guard will be stationed outside your door at all times. For the next couple of hours, i'll be that guard." I could faintly hear him sigh.

I internally groaned. Not only do i have to share a room with someone i dislike, but now i can't even leave the place. I kind of wish i let Spice erase my memories. Things would be so much simpler.

"Are you just as unhappy as i am about this?" I asked, sitting down with my back up against the doors.

"It has nothing to do with you- but yes. I'd rather be training instead of standing in front of  doors all day." He chuckled lightly.

I smiled a bit. He was much cooler than Noah was. "How'd you get stuck with me?"

"Noah refused to do it, and if Noah says no, Burke doesn't even try to force him. He just let's it be, and dumps it all on me." He explained.

"That doesn't sound like the Burke i met." I said, "He forced Noah into being my babysitter."

"That's only because of the mission he's going to send you on. Otherwise, you'd be stalked by me probably."

I stopped listening to him. Did he just say that Burke was going to send me on a mission with Noah?

"Mission?" I asked, "What do you mean by mission..."

He sighed again, "I wasn't supposed to say anything yet. Can you do me a favor and maybe forget I ever said that?"

I wanted answers, but something told me he wasn't going to give any. "Yea, sure."

"Thank you." A sound of relief in his voice.

"Why does Burke let Noah overpower him like that?" I fidgeted with my fingers, "Shouldn't it be the other way around?"

It took him a while to reply, "Maybe, but Burke knows that Noah would leave him if he didn't get his way. Noah's the best agent we've got, and if he goes- so does this agency."

"What about his parents- where are they?"

"Noah's parents are two of the best spies in the world. They're always undercover in some exotic place. He never see's them, let alone hears from them."

My eyes shifted to the ground. Could that be why he's the way he is?

"Oh." I replied.

"Anyways." The guard began, "You should wash up and get some sleep. Tomorrow's going to be a big day for you."

I nodded, even though he couldn't see me. "What about Noah?"

The guard laughed, "He'll be in whenever."

I half-laughed, "Thanks."

I followed his advice, and walked around until i saw a bedroom with a bathroom attached. I took a quick shower, and got ready for bed. That's when I heard the doors open again.

I peered head around the door frame. A large shadow kept getting bigger, and bigger until it was gone- and Noah appeared.

"Why are you still up?" He sneered, walking past me to the door across from mine.

"I just needed a shower." I said, earning a small nod from him.

"Well go to sleep." He snapped, right before disappearing into his own room.

"Goodnight to you too." I said sarcastically, leaning against my door frame and staring at his bedroom door. I heard the faucet run, and a loud noise like rain start. I knew he was taking a shower too.

I rolled my eyes, and stepped back inside my room, shutting the door in front of me. I flipped the switch turning the lights off, and walked towards my bed.

An odd noise escaped my mouth as I hit my pinky toe on the bed frame. I started to jump up and down dramatically, until I fell back into the nightstand, and knocked the lamp over with a loud crash.

"Shoot." I muttered, squinting my eyes in pain. My door swung open, and the light switched on to reveal a very hot Noah dressed in nothing but A TOWEL.

"Jesus- are you alright?" He asked, looking at all the damage.

My mouth swung open, and suddenly the pain in my body was all gone.

He rolled his eyes, "What a mess you are."
