One: A Damsel in Distress

"Look," I began, "This necklace means a lot to my mother, and I was stupid enough to take it without asking. I was planning on putting it back before she noticed unharmed, but then it broke in half. I'm begging you- If you have any decency inside you, please let me have the last one."

The tall, slender woman stared at me impassively. I was being extra sweet this time, but she didn't seem like she'd be one to help a girl out.

You see, right now I was at the nearby jewelry store where my father bought my mom an expensive, limited edition necklace.

It was beautiful, and I really wanted to wear it to my best friends end of school bash. Therefore, I took it without asking her, knowing she'd say no if I did.

While I was at the party, the chain got stuck on this guy's jacket- so when I went to walk away, it snapped- in half.

Now I'm trying to get a replacement, but the woman before me is holding the last one.

"You seem like a nice girl, but I'm afraid I can't give it to you. I need this necklace for a dinner party." She awkwardly patted my head as if i was a toddler.

"There's so many others that look similar. Unfortunately, I need that exact one." I said, pointing to one just behind her that looked very similar.

Normally I'd respect her answer, and try my luck somewhere else- but the temper inside me had other plans.

As she turned to look at the necklace I was pointing too, my hand launched forward- grabbing the necklace, and pulling it out of her hand into my hold.

I squealed, "I'm sorry!" Before running to the register lady, "I need you- to ring - this up for me- fast." I said, in between heavy breaths.

The woman looked petrified. I didn't think my distress was that shocking, but then she pointed behind me.

I turned around, stepping back in shock once I saw the woman's gun pointed towards my head.

"Give me that necklace, or I'll have to pull this trigger." She narrowed her eyes at me.

Right now, I was trembling in fear. I've never been held at gunpoint before, nor did I ever want to be.

Especially over a necklace! Is it really that important to her that she needs to threaten an innocent girl with a gun?

"B-but I- I really need it." I gulped after speaking. I was scared she'd blow my head off right there!

"That necklace is extremely important- a necessity for my mission. I need to use it to poison someone who can give me and my husband the money we desire."

This woman's crazy.

"What?" I asked, shocked out of mind. She wants to poison someone!?

"It's a long story, just- hand the necklace over, and I'll let you go unharmed." She took one hand off the gun, and held it out for me.

But now it wasn't just about me needing it to save my butt from my parents. It was also about the life of someone else.

"I-I'm sorry." I shook my head as her face dropped, "But I can't let you have this necklace- not if you're somehow planning to use it to kill someone."

She stared at me with harsh eyes. I began to tremble immensely. What did I just do, and how was she going to respond?

"I hate how it had to come to this." She sighed, placing her other hand back on the trigger.

I knew it was over for me- I knew she'd pull that trigger. Knowing there wasn't much I could do, I closed my eyes and waited for the pain to come.

"Put the gun down, Spice." A deep, masculine voice roared. I slipped one eye open, to see a tall male holding another gun to her head.

This male wasn't like any other I've seen before either.

His body was toned, muscular. His dashing brown eyes stood out underneath his long, curly dark blonde hair. He was definitely a sight, but not a very friendly looking one-  judging by how his eyes were in a deep, cold glare.

"Agent Krane." The woman smirked, "Lovely to see you."

"Save the crap, Spice. I won't let you have that necklace." I blinked a thousand times as he spoke. Who were these people, and what are they talking about?

"We'll see about that." The woman smirked as she through the gun back, hitting him directly in the face.

The boy threw his head back, and dropped his gun with a small groan. He stumbled back, just as the woman pushed me over- grabbing the necklace as I fell.

"No!" I shouted, "I need that necklace!" I hesitantly got back on my feet, and unexpectedly began to run after her.

"Who is that.." I heard the boy mumble under his breath. He sounded a bit confused- but hey, if anyone is confused, it's me.

For a thin woman, she ran pretty fast. It must be her tall legs, or maybe she's just got great endurance. Either way, she ran with undeniable speed- my tiny legs just couldn't keep up.

I watched as the brunette disappeared behind a building wall. Being stupid as I could be, I followed behind her- only to be greeted by two, very large men.

"Put me down!" I screamed, just as they picked me up. They began to walk towards a black van. No matter how hard I kicked and screamed, they wouldn't put me down.

"I'll call the police!" I yelled, only earning a small snicker shared between. I frowned at their response. They obviously don't take me seriously.

"Don't worry, dear." The tall brunette reappeared, "I just have to erase your memory now! Then you can go home." She started walking towards me with a small syringe as she smiled creepily.

I moved my neck farther away per step she took towards it. I wasn't going to let her inject that thing inside me.

"I'd rather keep my memories, thanks." I gulped looking at the needle. I hated needles- always have. If she actually thought I'd let her put that in me, she's crazy.

Okay, she must be crazy, because she keeps getting closer! Once again, I tried being civilized- but If civilized won't work, things have to change.

"I said no!" I yelled, extremely loud. Somehow, I was able to free my hand, and I swatted the syringe across the small area.

That's when the mysterious hunk from earlier jumped in front of the shocked woman.

"Why can't you leave idiotic bystanders alone, Agent Spice?" He questioned. I furrowed my brows and mouthed 'idiotic' quietly.

"Well, she knows too much." The woman shrugged.

"Only because you told her." He added. They both glared at each other, silently.

"Um, excuse me!" I interrupted politely. They both raised an eyebrow as their heads turned to face me, "Sorry, but do you think you could let me down?"

The boy turned around, grabbing his hair roughly. The woman just rubbed her temples, "Just hold her still so I can inject her."

My eyes widened. I began to squirm fiercely, causing the two men to get upset- turning their straight faces into scowls.

"I'm going to regret this." The boy sighed, knocking both men in the faces- catching me right before I hit the ground with them.

I could feel his muscular arms beneath me. Probably the reason my cheeks were a bright red. I looked up into his eyes- but quickly averted my gaze to the ground when I saw the 'I hate you' look embedded in his facial features.

"You can't touch her- I won't let you." He said, in a way that made it sound like he's been forced to say that same line every time he saves a damsel in distress.

"It's odd to see you care so much." She teased, causing him to roll his eyes.

"It's my job," he sighed once more- this time in annoyance, "Not my choice."

"Well, you can have him to thank for this." The woman winked, before pushing a button on the side of her glasses.

The pair turned holographic, and blue light began to scan me thoroughly. After a minute of scanning, a voice from the shades spoke:

"Ava Slater. 17 years old. 5'3. 125 pounds. Lives in Castle Bury, Connecticut. Mother is Angelina Willks-Slater, and Father is Daniel Slater. Only child, and thinks the boy she's being carried by is attractive."

My cheeks turned an even brighter red. I felt his body shake beneath me- I'm guessing he's laughing at me... great.

"It-it's lying!" I quickly defended myself.

"It never lies." The woman smirked. By now, I was hot with embarrassment. How did her special glasses know that? And WHY would it SAY that!?

"Oh my gosh- put me down!" I demanded. The boy had no problem dropping me on my butt. "Ow." I cried, rubbing it as I stood up.

"I don't know who you are- or what, possibly- but you can leave me out of it. I'm going home." I stated, beginning to walk off.

"We'll just come an get you." 'Agent Spice' called out after me.

"You don't know where I live." I crossed my arms. She smirked once again, and pushed another button on her glasses. It re-scanned me.

"2776 Verona Street, 64703."

"Okay..." I trailed off, "Maybe you do know." I now have a small feeling that my family could be in danger.

"Just let me erase your memory, Ava!" She exclaimed, most likely trying to make it seem like a fun thing.

"No!" The hot boy and I yelled at the same time. We exchanged awkward glances with each other.

"Fine." She huffed, "I'll just have to take you with me then." She snapped her fingers, and three more large men popped out of nowhere.

The boy shoved me, "Run!" He yelled. I stood there for a moment, processing what was about to happen. "Don't just stand there!" He pushed me into the opposite direction of the men, "Run- fast!"

I blinked a few times, before taking off in the direction where he shoved me a second ago.

It didn't take long, before the male appeared right beside me again.

"You're going to have to come with me." He yelled, dodging a few innocent pedestrians.

"W-what?" I asked, between heavy pants.

"It's not safe back at your house anymore. I called my agency, your parents will meet you back at headquarters." He explained.

"Agency? Headquarters!" I took my eyes off the path, and smacked right into a small cart. My head began to spin, as I stumbled backwards.

The boy reached his arms under my armpits, and helped me gain my balance back.

"I'll gladly leave you here if you want." He started, "But then you'll have to deal with Spice on a dizzy head yourself. Is that what you desire?"

I shook my head, "No." I muttered, bringing my lips down into a pout. He wasn't very nice.

"Fine. Then stop pouting like a stubborn child, and let me help you to my car." I shook my head, and swatted him away.

"I can walk myself!" I put one foot out, but ended up falling back- him catching me once again.

"Out of all people." He spat, directly under his breath.
